We consider (small) algebraic deformations of germs of real-algebraic CR submanifolds in complex space and study the biholomorphic equivalence problem for such deformations. We show that two algebraic deformations of minimal holomorphically nondegenerate real-algebraic CR submanifolds are holomorphically equivalent if and only if they are algebraically equivalent.
We show that the topological equivalence class of holomorphic foliation germs with an isolated singularity of Poincaré type is determined by the topological equivalence class of the real intersection foliation of the (suitably normalized) foliation germ with a sphere centered in the singularity. We use this Reconstruction Theorem to completely classify topological equivalence classes of plane holomorphic foliation germs of Poincaré type and discuss a conjecture on the classification in dimension $\geq 3$.
The following result is proved: Let $D$ and $D'$ be bounded domains in $\mathbb C^n$, $\partial D$ is smooth, real-analytic, simply connected, and $\partial D'$ is connected, smooth, real-algebraic. Then there exists a proper holomorphic correspondence $f:D\to D'$ if and only if $\partial D$ and $\partial D'$ a locally CR-equivalent. This leads to a characterization of the equivalence relationship between bounded domains in $\mathbb C^n$ modulo proper holomorphic correspondences in terms of CR-equivalence of their boundaries.
We introduce several homotopy equivalence relations for proper holomorphic mappings between balls. We provide examples showing that the degree of a rational proper mapping between balls (in positive codimension) is not a homotopy invariant. In domain dimension at least 2, we prove that the set of homotopy classes of rational proper mappings from a ball to a higher dimensional ball is finite. By contrast, when the target dimension is at least twice the domain dimension, it is well known that there are uncountably many spherical equivalence classes. We generalize this result by proving that an a…
We show that a pseudo-holomorphic embedding of an almost-complex $2n$-manifold into almost-complex $(2n + 2)$-Euclidean space exists if and only if there is a CR regular embedding of the $2n$-manifold into complex $(n + 1)$-space. We remark that the fundamental group does not place any restriction on the existence of either kind of embedding when $n$ is at least three. We give necessary and sufficient conditions in terms of characteristic classes for a closed almost-complex 6-manifold to admit a pseudo-holomorphic embedding into $\R^8$ equipped with an almost-complex structure that need not be…
We give an example of a real algebraic manifold embedded in a complex space that does not satisfy the Nash-Artin approximation Property. This Nash-Artin approximation Property is closely related to the problem of determining when the biholomorphic equivalence for germs of real algebraic manifolds coincides with the algebraic equivalence. This example is an elliptic Bishop surface, and its construction is based on the functional equation satisfied by the generating series of some walks restricted to the quarter plane.
A sequence of points $z_k$ in the unit disk is said to be thin for a given decrease function $ρ$, if there is a nontrivial bounded holomorphic function such that the infinite series $\sum_k ρ(1-|z_k|)|f(z_k)|$ converges. All sequences will be assumed hyperbolically separated. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for the problem of thinness of a sequence to be non-trivial (one way or the other), and for two different decrease functions to give rise to the same thin sequences. Along the way, some concrete conditions (necessary or sufficient) for a sequence to be thin are obtained.
A formal invertible equivalence between two minimal real analytic hypersurfaces converges if and only if the hypersurfaces are holomorphically nondegenerate
We study proper rational maps from the unit disk to balls in higher dimensions. After gathering some known results, we study the moduli space of unitary equivalence classes of polynomial proper maps from the disk to a ball, and we establish a normal form for these equivalence classes. We also prove that all rational proper maps from the disk to a ball are homotopic in target dimension at least $2$.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the geometric properties of real hypersurfaces of D'Angelo infinite type in ${\mathbb C}^n$. In order to understand the situation of flatness of these hypersurfaces, it is natural to ask whether there exists a nonconstant holomorphic curve tangent to a given hypersurface to infinite order. A sufficient condition for this existence is given by using Newton polyhedra, which is an important concept in singularity theory. More precisely, equivalence conditions are given in the case of some model hypersurfaces.
We study both canonical reproducing kernels and constructive reproducing kernels for holomorphic functions in $\CC^1$ and $\CC^n$. We compare and contrast the two, and also develop important relations between the two types of kernels. We prove a new result about the relationship between these two kernels on certain domains of finite type.
We consider inductive limits of weighted spaces of holomorphic functions in the unit ball of $\mathbb C^n$. The relationship between sets of uniqueness, weakly sufficient sets and sampling sets in these spaces is studied. In particular, the equivalence of these sets, under general conditions of the weights, is obtained.
It is shown that a germ of a holomorphic mapping sending a real-analytic generic submanifold of finite type into another is determined by its projection on the Segre variety of the target manifold. A necessary and sufficient condition is given for a germ of a mapping into the Segre variety of the target manifold to be the projection of a holomorphic mapping sending the source manifold into the target. An application to the biholomorphic equivalence problem is also given.
We prove that the only natural differential operations between holomorphic forms on a complex manifold are those obtained using linear combinations, the exterior product and the exterior differential. In order to accomplish this task we first develop the basics of the theory of natural holomorphic bundles over a fixed manifold, making explicit its Galoisian structure by proving a categorical equivalence {\it à la Galois}.
We consider an embedded $n$-dimensional compact complex manifold in $n+d$ dimensional complex manifolds. We are interested in the holomorphic classification of neighborhoods as part of Grauert's formal principle program. We will give conditions ensuring that a neighborhood of $C_n$ in $M_{n+d}$ is biholomorphic to a neighborhood of the zero section of its normal bundle. This extends Arnold's result about neighborhoods of a complex torus in a surface. We also prove the existence of a holomorphic foliation in $M_{n+d }$ having $C_n$ as a compact leaf, extending Ueda's theory to the high codimens…
For a harmonic diffeomorphism between the Poincaré disks, Wan showed the equivalence between the boundedness of the Hopf differential and the quasi-conformality. In this paper, we will generalize this result from quadratic differentials to $r$-differetials. We study the relationship between bounded holomorphic $r$-differentials and the induced curvature of the associated harmonic maps from the unit disk to the symmetric space $SL(r,\mathbb R)/SO(r)$ arising from cyclic/subcyclic harmonic Higgs bundles. Also, we show the equivalences between the boundedness of holomorphic differentials and havi…
Suppose that Y is a complex manifold with the property that any holomorphic map from a compact convex set in a complex Euclidean space C^n (for any n) to Y is a uniform limit of entire maps from C^n to Y. We prove that a holomorphic map from a closed complex subvariety X_0 in a Stein manifold X to the manifold Y extends to a holomorphic map of X to Y provided that it extends to a continuous map. We then establish the equivalence of four Oka-type properties of a complex manifold. We also generalize a theorem of Siu and Demailly on the existence of open Stein neighborhoods of Stein subvarieties …
There are solved standard problems related to Formal (Holomorphic) Segre preserving Mappings of non-trivial Real-Formal Hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{C}^{2}$.
We describe the basic cohomology ring of the canonical holomorphic foliation on a moment-angle manifold, LVMB-manifold or any complex manifold with a maximal holomorphic torus action. Namely, we show that the basic cohomology has a description similar to the cohomology ring of a complete simplicial toric variety due to Danilov and Jurkiewicz. This settles a question of Battaglia and Zaffran, who previously computed the basic Betti numbers for the canonical holomorphic foliation in the case of a shellable fan. Our proof uses an Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence argument; the key ingredient is t…
In any positive CR-dimension and CR-codimension we provide a construction of real-analytic holomorphically nondegenerate CR-submanifolds, which are $C^\infty$ CR-equivalent, but are inequivalent holomorphically. As a corollary, we provide the negative answer to the conjecture of Ebenfelt and Huang \cite{eh} on the analyticity of CR-equivalences between real-analytic Levi nonflat hypersurfaces in dimension 2.
We prove a theorem of M. Gromov (Oka's principle for holomorphic sections of elliptic bundles, J. Amer. Math. Soc. 2, 851-897, 1989) to the effect that sections of certain holomorphic submersions h from a complex manifold Z onto a Stein manifold X satisfy the Oka principle, meaning that the inclusion of the space of holomorphic sections into the space of continuous sections is a weak homotopy equivalence. The Oka principle holds if the submersion admits a fiber-dominating spray over a small neighborhood of any point in X. This extends a classical result of Grauert (Holomorphe Funktionen mit We…
Consider a holomorphic automorphism acting hyperbolically on an invariant compact set. It has been conjectured that the arising stable manifolds are all biholomorphic to Euclidean space. Such a stable manifold is always equivalent to the basin of a uniformly attracting sequence of maps. The equivalence of such basins to Euclideans has been shown under various additional assumptions. Recently Majer and Abbondandolo achieved new results by non-autonomously conjugating to normal forms on larger and larger time intervals. We show here that their results can be improved by adapting these time inter…
Let $(W,Π)$ be a Riemann domain over a complex manifold $M$ and $w_0$ be a point in $W$. Let $\mathbb D$ be the unit disk in $\mathbb C$ and $\mathbb T=\bd\mathbb D$. Consider the space ${\mathcal S}_{1,w_0}({\bar{\mathbb D}},W,M)$ of continuous mappings $f$ of $\mathbb T$ into $W$ such that $f(1)=w_0$ and $Π\circ f$ extends to a holomorphic on $\mathbb D$ mapping $\hat f$. Mappings $f_0,f_1\in{\mathcal S}_{1,w_0}({\bar{\mathbb D}},W,M)$ are called {\it $h$-homotopic} if there is a continuous mapping $f_t$ of $[0,1]$ into $\rS_{1,w_0}({\bar{\mathbb D}},W,M)$. Clearly, the $h$-homotopy is an eq…
Let X be a compact manifold with boundary and let L^k be a high power of a hermitian holomorphic line bundle over X. When X has no boundary, Demailly's holomorphic Morse inequalities give asymptotic bounds on the dimensions on the Dolbeault cohomology groups with values in L^k. We extend Demailly's inequalities to the case when X has a boundary by adding a boundary term expressed as a certain average of the curvature of the line bundle and the Levi curvature of the boundary. Examples are given that show that the inequalities are sharp and it is shown that they are compatible with hole filling.…
