The nonlinear eigenvalue problem of a class of second order semi-transcendental differential equations is studied. A nonlinear eigenvalue is defined as the initial condition which gives rise a separatrix solution. A semi-transcendental equation can be integrated once to a first order nonlinear equation, e.g., the Ricatti equation. It is shown that the nonlinear eigenvalue problems of these semi-transcendental equations are equivalent to linear eigenvalue problems. They share the exactly same eigenvalues. The eigensolutions in the two problems are closely related. The nonlinear eigenvalue problem equivalent to the (half) harmonic oscillator in quantum mechanics is solved exactly. This is the first solvable nonlinear eigenvalue problem. The nonlinear eigenvalue problems of some extended equations are also studied.
Motivated by the earlier results, we study theoretically and numerically the asymptotics and the monodromy of the quasi-exactly solvable part of the spectrum of the quasi-exactly solvable quartic introduced by C.~M.~Bender and S.~Boettcher. In particular, we formulate a conjecture on the coincidence of the asymptotic shape of the configuration of the branching points of the latter quartic with the asymptotic shape of zeros of the Yablonskii-Vorob'ev polynomials recently described and present its (conjectural) alternative description. Further we present a numerical study of the spectral monodro…
Inertial particles in 2D driven by a Gaussian white noise forcing are considered. For two examples of the forcing (compressible and incompressible) upper and lower bounds are found for the mean number of caustics as a function of Stokes number. Efficiency of the bounds is verified by numerical methods.
We construct models of exactly solvable two-particle quantum graphs with certain non-local two-particle interactions, establishing appropriate boundary conditions via suitable self-adjoint realisations of the two-particle Laplacian. Showing compatibility with the Bethe ansatz method, we calculate quantisation conditions in the form of secular equations from which the spectra can be deduced. We compare spectral statistics of some examples to well known results in random matrix theory, analysing the chaotic properties of their classical counterparts.
Based on a method that produces the solutions to the Schrodinger equations of partner potentials, we give two conditionally exactly solvable partner potentials of exponential type defined on the half line. These potentials are multiplicative shape invariant and each of their linearly independent solution includes a sum of two hypergeometric functions. Furthermore we calculate the scattering amplitudes and study some of their properties.
We give two conditionally exactly solvable inverse power law potentials whose linearly independent solutions include a sum of two confluent hypergeometric functions. We notice that they are partner potentials and multiplicative shape invariant. The method used to find the solutions works with the two Schrodinger equations of the partner potentials. Furthermore we study some of the properties of these potentials.
Below we study theoretically and numerically the asymptotics of the algebraic part of the spectrum for the quasi-exactly solvable sextic potential, its level crossing points, and its monodromy in the complex plane of its parameter. We also discuss connection between the quasi-exactly solvable sextic and the classical quartic potential.
Motivated by the interest in non-relativistic quantum mechanics for determining exact solutions to the Schrodinger equation we give two potentials that are conditionally exactly solvable. The two potentials are partner potentials and we obtain that each linearly independent solution of the Schrodinger equation includes two hypergeometric functions. Furthermore we calculate their reflection and transmission amplitudes. Finally we discuss some additional properties of these potentials.
The key difficulty in the modelling of large quantum coherent structures lies in keeping track of nonlocal, multipoint quantum correlations between their constituent parts. Here we consider a special case of such a system, a fractal quantum metamaterial interacting with electromagnetic field, and show that it can be exactly solved by using a combination of the Haar transform and the Wigner-Weyl transform. Theoretical and experimental investigation of finite-size precursors to exactly solvable fractal quantum structures as this will help illuminate the behaviour of generic quantum coherent stru…
In this paper, we study the Schrödinger equation with a new quasi-exactly solvable double-well potential. Exact expressions for the energies, the corresponding wave functions and the allowed values of the potential parameters are obtained using two different methods, the Bethe ansatz method and the Lie algebraic approach. Some numerical results are reported and it is shown that the results are in good agreement with each other and with those obtained previously via a different method.
We construct a previously unknown $E_2$-quasi-exactly solvable non-Hermitian model whose eigenfunctions involve weakly orthogonal polynomials obeying three-term recurrence relations that factorize beyond the quantization level. The model becomes Hermitian when one of its two parameters is fixed to a specific value. We analyze the double scaling limit of this model leading to the complex Mathieu equation. The norms, Stieltjes measures and moment functionals are evaluated for some concrete values of one of the two parameters.
