An open conjecture of Z.-W. Sun states that for any integer $n>1$ there is a positive integer $k\le n$ such that $π(kn)$ is prime, where $π(x)$ denotes the number of primes not exceeding $x$. In this paper, we show that for any positive integer $n$ the set $\{π(kn):\ k=1,2,3,\ldots\}$ contains infinitely many $P_2$-numbers which are products of at most two primes. We also prove that under the Bateman--Horn conjecture the set $\{π(4k):\ k=1,2,3,\ldots\}$ contains infinitely many primes.
For $n=1,2,3,\ldots$ let $S_n$ be the sum of the first $n$ primes. We mainly show that the sequence $a_n=\root n\of{S_n/n}\ (n=1,2,3,\ldots)$ is strictly decreasing, and moreover the sequence $a_{n+1}/a_n\ (n=10,11,\ldots)$ is strictly increasing. We also formulate similar conjectures involving twin primes or partitions of integers.
Let $f(x_1,\ldots,x_s)$ be a translation invariant indefinite quadratic form of integer coefficients with $s\ge 10$. Let $\mathcal{A}\subseteq \mathcal{P}\cap \{1,2,\ldots,X\}$. Let $X$ be sufficiently large. Subject to a rank condition, we prove that there exist distinct primes $p_1,\ldots,p_s\in \mathcal{A}$ such that $f(p_1,\ldots,p_s)=0$ as soon as $|\mathcal{A}|\ge \frac{X}{\log X} (\log\log X)^{-\frac{1}{80}}.$
Mills proved that there exists a real constant $A>1$ such that for all $n\in \mathbb{N}$ the values $\lfloor A^{3^n}\rfloor$ are prime numbers. No explicit value of $A$ is known, but assuming the Riemann hypothesis one can choose $A= 1.3063778838\ldots .$ Here we give a first unconditional variant: $\lfloor A^{10^{10n}}\rfloor$ is prime, where $A=1.00536773279814724017\ldots$ can be computed to millions of digits. Similarly, $\lfloor A^{3^{13n}}\rfloor$ is prime, with $A=3.8249998073439146171615551375\ldots .$
Let $φ(x_{1}, \ldots, x_{h})=c_{1} x_{1}+\cdots+c_{h} x_{h}$ be a linear form with coefficients in a field $\mathbf{F}$, and let $V$ be a vector space over $\mathbf{F}$. A nonempty subset $A$ of $V$ is a $φ$-Sidon set if $φ\left(a_{1}, \ldots, a_{h}\right)=φ\left(a_{1}^{\prime}, \ldots, a_{h}^{\prime}\right)$ implies $\left(a_{1}, \ldots, a_{h}\right)=$ $\left(a_{1}^{\prime}, \ldots, a_{h}^{\prime}\right)$ for all $h$-tuples $\left(a_{1}, \ldots, a_{h}\right) \in A^{h}$ and $\left(a_{1}^{\prime}, \ldots, a_{h}^{\prime}\right) \in A^{h}$. We call $A$ a polynomial perturbation of $B$ if for some…
Let $f(x_1,\ldots,x_n)$ be a regular indefinite integral quadratic form with $n\ge 9$, and let $t$ be an integer. It is established that $f(x_1,\ldots,x_n)=t$ has solutions in prime variables if there are no local obstructions.
For finitely generated subgroups $W_1, \ldots , W_t$ of $\mathbb{Q}^{\times}$, integers $k_1, \ldots , k_t$, a Galois extension $F$ of $\mathbb{Q}$ and a union of conjugacy classes $C \subset \text{Gal}(F/\mathbb{Q})$, we develop methods for determining if there exists infinitely many primes $p$ such that the index of the reduction of $W_i$ modulo $p$ divides $k_i$ and such that the Artin symbol of $p$ on $F$ is contained in $C$. The results are a multivariable generalization of H.W. Lenstra's work. As an application, we determine all integers $a_1, \ldots , a_n$ such that $\text{ord}_p(a_1) =…
A prime labeling of a graph with $n$ vertices is a labeling of its vertices with distinct integers from $\{1, 2,\ldots , n\}$ in such a way that the labels of any two adjacent vertices are relatively prime. T. Varkey conjectured that ladder graphs have a prime labeling. We prove this conjecture.
Let $F_1,\ldots,F_R$ be homogeneous polynomials of degree $d\ge 2$ with integer coefficients in $n$ variables, and let $\mathbf{F}=(F_1,\ldots,F_R)$. Suppose that $F_1,\ldots,F_R$ is a non-singular system and $n\ge 4^{d+2}d^2R^5$. We prove that there are infinitely many solutions to $\mathbf{F}(\mathbf{x})=\mathbf{0}$ in prime coordinates if (i) $\mathbf{F}(\mathbf{x})=\mathbf{0}$ has a non-singular solution over the $p$-adic units $\U_p$ for all prime numbers $p$, and (ii) $\mathbf{F}(\mathbf{x})=\mathbf{0}$ has a non-singular solution in the open cube $(0,1)^n$.
Let $n\ge 5$ be an odd integer. It is shown that $\{1^{σ(1)},\ldots,n^{σ(n)}\}$ is a complete residue system modulo $n$ for some permutation $σ$ of $\{1,\ldots,n\}$ if and only if $\frac{1}{2}(n-1)$ is a Sophie Germain prime. Partial results are obtained also for the case $n$ even.
The system of equations \[ u_1p_1^2 + \ldots + u_sp_s^2 = 0 \] \[ v_1p_1^3 + \ldots + v_sp_s^3 = 0 \] has prime solutions $(p_1, \ldots, p_s)$ for $s \geq 12$, assuming that the system has solutions modulo each prime $p$. This is proved via the Hardy-Littlewood circle method, building on Wooley's work on the corresponding system over the integers and recent results on Vinogradov's mean value theorem. Additionally, a set of sufficient conditions for local solvability is given: If both equations are solvable modulo 2, the quadratic equation is solvable modulo 3, and for each prime $p$ at least 7…
Let $σ(n)$ and $γ(n)$ denote the sum of divisors and the product of distinct prime divisors of $n$ respectively. We shall show that, if $n\neq 1, 1782$ and $σ(n)=(γ(n))^2$, then there exist odd (not necessarily distinct) primes $p, p^\prime$ and (not necessarily odd) distinct primes $q_i (i=1, 2, \ldots, k)$ such that $p, p^\prime\mid\mid n$, $q_i^2\mid\mid n (i=1, 2, \ldots, k)$ and $q_1\mid σ(p^2), q_{i+1}\midσ(q_i^2) (1\leq i\leq k-1), p^\prime \midσ(q_k^2)$.
We pose 100 new conjectures on representations involving primes or related things, which might interest number theorists and stimulate further research. Below are five typical examples: (i) For any positive integer $n$, there exists $k\in\{0,\ldots,n\}$ such that $n+k$ and $n+k^2$ are both prime. (ii) Each integer $n>1$ can be written as $x+y$ with $x,y\in\{1,2,3,\ldots\}$ such that $x+ny$ and $x^2+ny^2$ are both prime. (iii) For any rational number $r>0$, there are distinct primes $q_1,\ldots,q_k$ with $r=\sum_{j=1}^k1/(q_j-1)$. (iv) Every $n=4,5,\ldots$ can be written as $p+q$, where $p$ is …
Given disjoint subsets $T_1,\ldots,T_m$ of "not too large" primes up to $x$, we establish that for a random integer $n$ drawn from $[1,x]$, the $m$-dimensional vector enumerating the number of prime factors of $n$ from $T_1,\ldots,T_m$ converges to a vector of $m$ independent Poisson random variables. We give a specific rate of convergence using the Kubilius model of prime factors. We also show a universal upper bound of Poisson type when $T_1,\ldots,T_m$ are unrestricted, and apply this to the distribution of the number of prime factors from a set $T$ given that $n$ has $k$ total prime factor…
Given positive integers $a_1,\ldots,a_k$, we prove that the set of primes $p$ such that $p \not\equiv 1 \bmod{a_i}$ for $i=1,\ldots,k$ admits asymptotic density relative to the set of all primes which is at least $\prod_{i=1}^k \left(1-\frac{1}{φ(a_i)}\right)$, where $φ$ is the Euler's totient function. This result is similar to the one of Heilbronn and Rohrbach, which says that the set of positive integer $n$ such that $n \not\equiv 0 \bmod a_i$ for $i=1,\ldots,k$ admits asymptotic density which is at least $\prod_{i=1}^k \left(1-\frac{1}{a_i}\right)$.
In this paper we establish connections between covers of $\mathbb Z$ by residue classes and subset sums in a field. Suppose that $A_0=\{a_s(n_s)\}_{s=0}^k$ covers each integer at least $p$ times with the residue class $a_0(n_0)=a_0+n_0\mathbb Z$ irredundant, where $p$ is a prime not dividing any of $n_1,\ldots,n_k$. Let $m_1,\ldots,m_k\in\mathbb Z$ be relatively prime to $n_1,\ldots,n_k$ respectively. For any $c,c_1,\ldots,c_k\in\mathbb Z/p\mathbb Z$ with $c_1\cdots c_k\not=0$, we show that the set $$\bigg\{\bigg\{\sum_{s\in I}\frac{m_s}{n_s}\bigg\}:\, I\subseteq\{1,\ldots,k\} \ \mbox{and}\ \s…
Let $p$ be a prime and $p_1,\ldots, p_r$ be distinct prime divisors of $p-1$. We prove that the smallest positive integer $n$ which is a simultaneous $p_1,\ldots,p_r$-power nonresidue modulo $p$ satisfies $$ n<p^{1/4 - c_r+o(1)}\quad(p\to\infty) $$ for some positive $c_r$ satisfying $c_r\ge e^{-(1+o(1))r} \; (r\to \infty).$
Quite recently, in [8] the authoor of this paper considered the distribution of primes in the sequence $(S_n)$ whose $n$th term is defined as $S_n=\sum_{k=1}^{2n}p_k$, where $p_k$ is the $k$th prime. Some heuristic arguments and the numerical evidence lead to the conjecture that the primes are distributed among sequence $(S_n)$ in the same way that they are distributed among positive integers. More precisely, Conjecture 3.3 in [8] asserts that $π_n\sim \frac{n}{\log n}$ as $n\to \infty$, where $π_n$ denotes the number of primes in the set $\{S_1,S_2,\ldots, S_n\}$. Motivated by this, here we c…
We give several families of reasonably small integers $k, \ell \ge 1$ and real positive $α, β\le 1$, such that the products $p_1\ldots p_k s$, where $p_1, \ldots, p_k \le m^α$ are primes and $s \le m^β$ is a product of at most $\ell$ primes, represent all reduced residue classes modulo $m$. This is a relaxed version of the still open question of P. Erdos, A. M. Odlyzko and A. Sarkozy (1987), that corresponds to $k = \ell =1$ (that is, to products of two primes). In particular, we improve recent results of A. Walker (2016).
Let $r\ge k\ge 2$ be fixed positive integers. Let $\varrho_{r,k}$ denote the characteristic function of the set of $r$-tuples of positive integers with $k$-wise relatively prime components, that is any $k$ of them are relatively prime. We use the convolution method to establish an asymptotic formula for the sum $\sum_{n_1,\ldots,n_r\le x} \varrho_{r,k}(n_1,\ldots,n_r)$ by elementary arguments. Our result improves the error term obtained by J. Hu (2013).
We study number theoretic properties of the map $x \mapsto x^{x} \mod{p}$, where $x \in \{1,2,\ldots,p-1\}$, and improve on some recent upper bounds, due to Kurlberg, Luca, and Shparlinski, on the number of primes $p < N$ for which the map only has the trivial fixed point $x=1$. A key technical result, possibly of independent interest, is the existence of subsets $\mathscr{N}_{q} \subset \{2,3,\ldots,q-1\}$ such that almost all $k$-tuples of distinct integers $n_{1}, n_{2},\ldots,n_{k} \in \mathscr{N}_q$ are multiplicatively independent (if $k$ is not too large), and $|\mathscr{N}_q| = q \cdot…

Let $d\ge4$ and $c\in(-d,d)$ be relatively prime integers. We show that for any sufficiently large integer $n$ (in particular $n>24310$ suffices for $4\le d\le 36$), the smallest prime $p\equiv c\pmod d$ with $p\ge(2dn-c)/(d-1)$ is the least positive integer $m$ with $2r(d)k(dk-c)\ (k=1,\ldots,n)$ pairwise distinct modulo $m$, where $r(d)$ is the radical of $d$. We also conjecture that for any integer $n>4$ the least positive integer $m$ such that $|\{k(k-1)/2\ \mbox{mod}\ m:\ k=1,\ldots,n\}|= |\{k(k-1)/2\ \mbox{mod}\ m+2:\ k=1,\ldots,n\}|=n$ is the least prime $p\ge 2n-1$ with $p+2$ also prim…
Let $F \in \mathbb{Z}[x_1, \ldots, x_n]$ be a homogeneous form of degree $d \geq 2$, and let $V_F^*$ denote the singular locus of the affine variety $V(F) = \{ \mathbf{z} \in {\mathbb{C}}^n: F(\mathbf{z}) = 0 \}$. In this paper, we prove the existence of integer solutions with prime coordinates to the equation $F(x_1, \ldots, x_n) = 0$ provided $F$ satisfies suitable local conditions and $n - \dim V_F^* \geq 2^8 3^4 5^2 d^3 (2d-1)^2 4^{d}$. Our result improves on what was known previously due to Cook and Magyar (B. Cook and A. Magyar, `Diophantine equations in the primes'. Invent. Math. 198 (2…
Let $G$ denote a compact monothetic group, and let $$ρ(x) = α_k x^k + \ldots + α_1 x + α_0,$$ where $α_0, \ldots , α_k$ are elements of $G$ one of which is a generator of $G$. Let $(p_n)_{n\geq 1}$ denote the sequence of rational prime numbers. Suppose $f \in L^{p}(G)$ for $p> 1$. It is known that if $$A_{N}f(x) := {1 \over N} \sum_{n=1}^{N} f(x + ρ(p_n)) \qquad (N=1,2, \ldots ),$$ then the limit $\lim _{n\to \infty} A_Nf(x)$ exists for almost all $x$ with respect Haar measure. We show that if $G$ is connected then the limit is $\int_{G} f dλ$. In the case where $G$ is the $a$-adic integers, w…
Let $f$ be a positive multiplicative function and let $k\geq 2$ be an integer. We prove that if the prime values $f(p)$ converge to $1$ sufficiently slowly as $p\rightarrow +\infty$, in the sense that $\sum_{p}|f(p)-1|=\infty$, there exists a real number $c>0$ such that the $k$-tuples $(f(p+1),\ldots,f(p+k))$ are dense in the hypercube $[0,c]^k$ or in $[c,+\infty)^k$. In particular, the values $f(p+1),\ldots,f(p+k)$ can be put in any increasing order infinitely often. Our work generalises previous results of De Koninck and Luca.
Let $$γ^*:=\frac{8}{9}+\frac{2}{3}\:\frac{\log(10/9)}{\log 10}\:(\approx 0.919\ldots)\:,\ γ^*<\frac{1}{c_0}\leq 1\:.$$ Let $γ^*<γ_0\leq 1$, $c_0=1/γ_0$ be fixed. Let also $a_0\in\{0,1,\ldots, 9\}$. In [23] we proved on assumption of the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis (GRH), that each sufficiently large odd integer $N_0$ can be represented in the form $$N_0=p_1+p_2+p_3\:,$$ where for $i=2, 3$ the primes $p_i$ are Piatetski-Shapiro primes - primes of the form $p_i=[n_i^{c_0}]$, $n_i\in\mathbb{N}$ - whereas the decimal expansion of $p_1$ does not contain the digit $a_0$. For positive integers $K$ and $L$, we introduce and study the notion of $K$-multiplicative dependence over the algebraic closure $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p$ of a finite prime field $\mathbb{F}_p$, as well as $L$-linear dependence of points on elliptic curves in reduction modulo primes. One of our main results shows that, given non-zero rational functions $φ_1,\ldots,φ_m, \varrho_1,\ldots,\varrho_n\in\mathbb{Q}(X)$ and an elliptic curve $E$ defined over the integers $\mathbb{Z}$, for any sufficiently large prime $p$, for all but finitely many $α\in\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p$, at most one of the foll…
In the paper, we establish a new estimate for Kloosterman sum over primes with respect to an arbitrary modulus $q$. This estimate together with some recent results of the second author are applied to the problem of solvability of the congruence \[ g(p_{1})\, + \,\ldots\, + \,g(p_{k}) \,\equiv\, m\pmod{q} \] in prime variables $p_{1},\ldots, p_{k}\le N$, $N\le q^{1-δ}$. Here $g(x)\,\equiv\,a\overline{x}+bx\pmod{q}$, where $a,b,m$ and $k\ge 3$ are arbitrary integers, $(ab,q)=1$. The main result of the paper gives an asymptotic formula for the number of solutions for the case when $q$ is coprime …
Let $$γ^*=\frac{8}{9}+\frac{2}{3}\:\frac{\log(10/9)}{\log 10}\:(\approx 0.919\ldots)\:.$$ Let $γ^*<γ_0\leq 1$, $c_0=1/γ_0$ be fixed. Let also $a_0\in\{0,1,\ldots, 9\}$.\\ We prove on assumption of the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis that each sufficiently large odd integer $N_0$ can be represented in the form $$N_0=p_1+p_2+p_3\:,$$ where the $p_i$ are of the form $p_i=[n_i^{c_0}]$, $n_i\in\mathbb{N}$, for $i=1,2$ and the decimal expansion of $p_3$ does not contain the digit $a_0$.\\ The proof merges methods of J. We generalize current known distribution results on Shanks--Rényi prime number races to the case where arbitrarily many residue classes are involved. Our method handles both the classical case that goes back to Chebyshev and function field analogues developed in the recent years. More precisely, let $π(x;q,a)$ be the number of primes up to $x$ that are congruent to $a$ modulo $q$. For a fixed integer $q$ and distinct invertible congruence classes $a_0,a_1,\ldots,a_D$, assuming the generalized Riemann Hypothesis and a weak version of the linear independence hypothesis, we show that the set of $…
Let $f(x) \in \mathbb{Z}[x]$; for each integer $α$ it is interesting to consider the number of iterates $n_α$, if possible, needed to satisfy $f^{n_α}(α) = α$. The sets $\{α, f(α), \ldots, f^{n_α - 1}(α), α\}$ generated by the iterates of $f$ are called cycles. For $\mathbb{Z}[x]$ it is known that cycles of length 1 and 2 occur, and no others. While much is known for extensions to number fields, we concentrate on extending $\mathbb{Z}$ by adjoining reciprocals of primes. Let $\mathbb{Z}[1/p_1, \ldots, 1/p_n]$ denote $\mathbb{Z}$ extended by adding in the reciprocals of the $n$ primes $p_1, \ld…
We obtain a lower bound for \[ \#\{x/2< p_{n}\leq x:\ p_n \equiv\ldots\equiv p_{n+m}\equiv a\text{ (mod $q$)},\ p_{n+m} - p_{n}\leq y\}, \] where $p_{n}$ is the $n^{\text{th}}$ prime.
For a prime $p$ and nonnegative integers $j$ and $n$ let $\vartheta_p(j,n)$ be the number of entries in the $n$-th row of Pascal's triangle that are exactly divisible by $p^j$. Moreover, for a finite sequence $w=(w_{r-1}\cdots w_0)\neq (0,\ldots,0)$ in $\{0,\ldots,p-1\}$ we denote by $\lvert n\rvert_w$ the number of times that $w$ appears as a factor (contiguous subsequence) of the base-$p$ expansion $n=(n_{μ-1}\cdots n_0)_p$ of $n$. It follows from the work of Barat and Grabner (Digital functions and distribution of binomial coefficients, J. London Math. Soc. (2) 64(3), 2001), that $\vartheta…
There are no primes $p$ with $5<p<10^{9}$ for which $2!, 3!, \ldots, (p-1)!$ are all distinct modulo $p$; it is conjectured that there are no such primes.
Let $p\equiv 1 \pmod{4}$ be a prime. Write $t = \prod_{x=1}^{(p-1)/2}x$. Since $t ^2\equiv -1 \pmod{p}$ , we can divide $\{1,2,\ldots,(p-1)/2\}$ into $(p-1)/4$ ordered pairs so that each pair, say $<a,\tilde{a}>$ , satisfies that $t a \equiv \pm \tilde{a} \pmod{p}.$ For any two such pairs, assume $a<\tilde{a}, b<\tilde{b}, a<b $, then there are three possibilities for their relative order : $a<\tilde{a} < b< \tilde{b}$ , $a< b < \tilde{a} < \tilde{b}$ , $a< b < \tilde{b}< \tilde{a}$. We show this paring is balanced in the sense that the three cases occur with equal frequencies. Utilizing prope…
Suppose that $1<c<9/8$. For any $m\geq 1$, there exist infinitely many $n$ such that $$ \{[n^c],\ [(n+1)^c],\ \ldots,\ [(n+k_0)^c]\} $$ contains at least $m+1$ primes, if $k_0$ is sufficiently large (only depending on $m$).
There are many formulations of problems that have been proven to be equivalent to the Riemann Hypothesis in modern mathematics. In this paper we look at the formulation of an inequality derived by Robin in 1984 that proves the Riemann Hypothesis true if and only if Robin's Inequality is true for all $n\geq 5040$. In this paper we look at explicit products of prime numbers and show that if a given $n=p_1^{k_1}p_2^{k_2}\ldots p_m^{k_m}$ satisfies Robin's Inequality, then $n=P_1^{k_1}P_2^{k_2}\ldots P_m^{k_m}$ with $p_j \leq P_j$ also satisfies the inequality. We also then offer two conjectures t…
Let $β,ε\in (0,1]$, and $k \geq \exp(122 \max\{1/β,1/ε\})$. We prove that if $A,B$ are subsets of a prime field $\mathbb{Z}_{p}$, and $|B| \geq p^β$, then there exists a sum of the form $$S = a_{1}B \pm \ldots \pm a_{k}B, \qquad a_{1},\ldots,a_{k} \in A,$$ with $|S| \geq 2^{-12}p^{-ε}\min\{|A||B|,p\}$. As a corollary, we obtain an elementary proof of the following sum-product estimate. For every $α< 1$ and $β,δ> 0$, there exists $ε> 0$ such that the following holds. If $A,B,E \subset \mathbb{Z}_{p}$ satisfy $|A| \leq p^α$, $|B| \geq p^β$, and $|B||E| \geq p^δ|A|$, then there exists $t \in E$ s…
Let $\{ {U_{n}\}_{n \geq 0} }$ be a non-degenerate binary recurrence sequence with positive discriminant. Let $\{p_1,\ldots, p_s\}$ be fixed prime numbers and $\{b_1,\ldots ,b_s\}$ be fixed non-negative integers. In this paper, we obtain the finiteness result for the solution of the Diophantine equation $U_{n_{1}} + \cdots + U_{n_{t}} = b_1 p_1^{z_1} + \cdots+ b_s p_s^{z_s} $ under certain assumptions. Moreover, we explicitly solve the equation $F_{n_1}+ F_{n_2}= 2^{z_1} +3^{z_2}$, in non-negative integers $n_1, n_2, z_1, z_2$ with $z_2\geq z_1$. The main tools used in this work are the lower …
Let $E_0,\ldots,E_n$ be a partition of the set of prime numbers, and define $E_j(x) := \sum_{p \in E_j \atop p \leq x} \frac{1}{p}$. Define $π(x;\mathbf{E},\mathbf{k})$ to be the number of integers $n \leq x$ with $k_j$ prime factors in $E_j$ for each $j$. Basic probabilistic heuristics suggest that $x^{-1}π(x;\mathbf{E},\mathbf{k})$, modelled as the distribution function of a random variable, should satisfy a joint Poisson law with parameter vector $(E_0(x),\ldots,E_n(x))$, as $x \rightarrow \infty$. We prove an asymptotic formula for $π(x;\mathbf{E},\mathbf{k})$ which contradicts these heuri…
Let $\mathbf{f} = (f_1, \ldots, f_R)$ be a system of polynomials with integer coefficients in which the degrees need not all be the same. We provide sufficient conditions for which the system of equations $f_j (x_1, \ldots, x_n) = 0 \ (1 \leq j \leq R)$ satisfies a general local to global type statement, and has a solution where each coordinate is prime. In fact we obtain the asymptotic formula for number of such solutions, counted with a logarithmic weight, under these conditions. We prove the statement via the Hardy-Littlewood circle method. This is a generalization of the work of B. Cook an…
The ratio set of a set of positive integers $A$ is defined as $R(A) := \{a / b : a, b \in A\}$. The study of the denseness of $R(A)$ in the set of positive real numbers is a classical topic and, more recently, the denseness in the set of $p$-adic numbers $\mathbb{Q}_p$ has also been investigated. Let $A_1, \ldots, A_k$ be a partition of $\mathbb{N}$ into $k$ sets. We prove that for all prime numbers $p$ but at most $\lfloor \log_2 k \rfloor$ exceptions at least one of $R(A_1), \ldots, R(A_k)$ is dense in $\mathbb{Q}_p$. Moreover, we show that for all prime numbers $p$ but at most $k - 1$ excep…
Let $S = \{q_1, \ldots , q_s\}$ be a finite, non-empty set of distinct prime numbers. For a non-zero integer $m$, write $m = q_1^{r_1} \ldots q_s^{r_s} M$, where $r_1, \ldots , r_s$ are non-negative integers and $M$ is an integer relatively prime to $q_1 \ldots q_s$. We define the $S$-part $[m]_S$ of $m$ by $[m]_S := q_1^{r_1} \ldots q_s^{r_s}$. Let $(u_n)_{n \ge 0}$ be a linear recurrence sequence of integers. Under certain necessary conditions, we establish that for every $\varepsilon > 0$, there exists an integer $n_0$ such that $[u_n]_S\leq |u_n|^{\varepsilon}$ holds for $n > n_0$. Our pro…
For a fixed integer $r\ge1$, we say $k$-tuple integers $(x_1,\ldots,x_k)$ are relatively $r$-prime if there exists no prime $p$ such that all $k$ integers is multiple of $p^r$. Benkoski proved that the number of relatively $r$-prime $k$-tuple integers in $[1,x]^k$ is $x^k/ζ(rk)+$(Error term). We showed that the exact order of error term is $x^{k-1}$ for $rk\ge3$ and $k\not=1$.
For $x>0$ let $π(x)$ denote the number of primes not exceeding $x$. For integers $a$ and $m>0$, we determine when there is an integer $n>1$ with $π(n)=(n+a)/m$. In particular, we show that for any integers $m>2$ and $a\le\lceil e^{m-1}/(m-1)\rceil$ there is an integer $n>1$ with $π(n)=(n+a)/m$. Consequently, for any integer $m>4$ there is a positive integer $n$ with $π(mn)=m+n$. We also pose several conjectures for further research; for example, we conjecture that for each $m=1,2,3,\ldots$ there is a positive integer $n$ such that $m+n$ divides $p_m+p_n$, where $p_k$ denotes the $k$-th prime.
Let $S$ denote a set of primes and let $a_1,\ldots,a_m$ be positive distinct integers. We call the $m$-tuple $(a_1,\ldots,a_m)$ an $S$-Diophantine tuple if $a_ia_j+1=s_{i,j}$ are $S$-integers for all $i\not=j$. In this paper, we show that no $S$-Diophantine quadruple (i.e~$m=4$) exists if $S=\{2,q\}$ with $q\equiv 3\; (\bmod\, 4)$ or $q<10^9$. For two arbitrary primes $p,q<10^5$ we gain the same result.
Let $a$ and $m>0$ be integers. We show that for any integer $b$ relatively prime to $m$, the set $\{a^n+bn:\ n=1,\ldots,m^2\}$ contains a complete system of residues modulo $m$. We also pose several conjectures for further research; for example, we conjecture that any integer $n>1$ can be written as $k+m$ with $2^k+m$ prime, where $k$ and $m$ are positive integers.
