We describe the locus of stable bundles on a smooth genus $g$ curve that fail to be globally generated. For each rank $r$ and degree $d$ with $rg<d<r(2g-1)$, we exhibit a component of the expected dimension. We show moreover that no component has larger dimension and give an explicit description of those families of smaller dimension than expected. For large enough degrees, we show that the locus is irreducible.
We investigate the globally generated vector bundles on complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds with the first Chern class at most 2. We classify all the globally generated vector bundles of an arbitrary rank on quintic in $\mathbb{P}^4$ and investigate the globally generated vector bundles of rank 2 on complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds of codimension 2.
We classify globally generated vector bundles on $\mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^2$ with small first Chern class, i.e. $c_1= (a,b)$, $a+b \leq 3$. Our main method is to investigate the associated smooth curves to globally generated vector bundles via the Hartshorne-Serre construction.
We give a complete classification of globally generated vector bundles of rank 3 on a smooth quadric threefold with $c_1\leq 2$ and extend the result to arbitrary higher rank case. We also investigate the existence of globally generated indecomposable vector bundles, and give the sufficient and necessary conditions on numeric data of vector bundles for indecomposability.
We classify rank two globally generated vector bundles on P^n, n > 2, with c_1 \leq 5. The classification is complete but for one case (n = 3, c_1 = 5, c_2 = 12)
We investigate the existence of globally generated vector bundles of rank 2 with $c_1\leq 3$ on a smooth quadric threefold and determine their Chern classes. As an automatic consequence, every rank 2 globally generated vector bundle on $Q$ with $c_1=3$ is an odd instanton up to twist.
We give the classification of globally generated vector bundles of rank $2$ on a smooth quadric surface with $c_1\le (2,2)$ in terms of the indices of the bundles, and extend the result to arbitrary higher rank case. We also investigate their indecomposability and give the sufficient and necessary condition on numeric data of vector bundles for indecomposability.
We classify globally generated vector bundles on $\mathbf{P}^1 \times \mathbf{P}^1 \times \mathbf{P}^1$ with small first Chern class, i.e. $c_1= (a_1, a_2, a_3)$, $a_i \le 2$. Our main method is to investigate the associated smooth curves to globally generated vector bundles via the Hartshorne-Serre correspondence.
By proving an integral formula of the curvature tensor of $E\ts \det E$, we observe that the curvature tensor of $E\ts \det E$ is very similar to that of a line bundle and obtain certain new Kodaira-Akizuki-Nakano type vanishing theorems for vector bundles. As special cases, we deduce vanishing theorems for ample, nef and globally generated vector bundles by analytic method instead of the Leray-Borel-Le Potier spectral sequence.
We obtain a sharp bound on the degree of a globally generated vector bundle over a reduced irreducible projective variety defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. As an application, we obtain a Del Pezzo-Bertini type theorem on varieties of minimal degree for subvarieties of Grassmannians.
One classifies the globally generated vector bundles on P^3 with the first Chern class c_1=3. The case c_1=2 on P^n was done by J.C. Sierra and L. Ugaglia (see the References) and the case c_1=3, rank=2 on P^n was done by S. Huh (see the References).
In this paper, we show that the cohomology of a general stable bundle on a Hirzebruch surface is determined by the Euler characteristic provided that the first Chern class satisfies necessary intersection conditions. More generally, we compute the Betti numbers of a general stable bundle. We also show that a general stable bundle on a Hirzebruch surface has a special resolution generalizing the Gaeta resolution on the projective plane. As a consequence of these results, we classify Chern characters such that the general stable bundle is globally generated.
One classifies the globally generated vector bundles on P^n (n \not = 3) with the first Chern class c_1 = 3. The case n = 3 is treated in arXiv:1202.5988 [math.AG]. The case c_1 = 2 was treated by J.C. Sierra and L. Ugaglia (see References), the case c_1 = 3, rank = 2 is settled by S. Huh (see References), the case rank = 2, c_1 \le 5 is studied by L. Chiodera and Ph. Ellia (see References).
We complete the classification of globally generated vector bundles with small $c_1$ on projective spaces by treating the case $c_1 = 5$ on $\mathbb{P}^n$, $n \geq 4$ (the case $c_1 \leq 3$ has been considered by Sierra and Ugaglia, while the cases $c_1 = 4$ on any projective space and $c_1 = 5$ on $\mathbb{P}^2$ and $\mathbb{P}^3$ have been studied in two of our previous papers). It turns out that there are very few indecomposable bundles of this kind: besides some obvious examples there are, roughly speaking, only the (first twist of the) rank 5 vector bundle which is the middle term of the …
We classify globally generated vector bundles on the projective n-space with first Chern class = 4. This extends previous results for first Chern class at most 3, namely for 2 of Sierra and Ugaglia [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 213 (2009), 2141-2146] and for 3 of Anghel and Manolache [arXiv:1202.6261] and, independently, of Sierra and Ugaglia [arXiv:1203.0185]. It turns out that the case first Chern class = 4 is much more involved than the previous cases, especially on the projective 3-space. Among the bundles appearing in our classification one can find the Sasakura rank 3 vector bundle on the proje…
We classify globally generated vector bundles with first Chern class $c_1$ at least 4 on the projective 3-space with the property that $E(-c_1+3)$ has a non-zero global section. This (seemingly) technical result allows one to reduce the classification of globally generated vector bundles with $c_1$ at most 7 on the projective 3-space to the classification of stable rank-2 reflexive sheaves with the same properties. The proof is based on a description of the monads of all locally Cohen-Macaulay space curves defined by cubic equations. We extend then this kind of classification to higher dimensi…
We consider the problem of determining all pairs (c_1, c_2) of Chern classes of rank 2 bundles that are cokernel of a skew-symmetric matrix of linear forms in 3 variables, having constant rank 2c_1 and size 2c_1+2. We completely solve the problem in the "stable" range, i.e. for pairs with c_1^2-4c_2<0, proving that the additional condition c_2\le {{c_1+1}\choose 2} is necessary and sufficient. For c_1^2-4c_2\ge 0, we prove that there exist globally generated bundles, some even defining an embedding of P^2 in a Grassmannian, that cannot correspond to a matrix of the above type. This extends pre…
We provide a classification of globally generated vector bundles with $c_1 = 5$ on the projective 3-space. The classification is complete (except for one case) but not as detailed as the corresponding classification in the case $c_1 = 4$ from our paper [Memoirs A.M.S., Vol. 253, No. 1209 (2018), also arXiv:1305.3464]. We determine, at least, the pairs of integers $(a , b)$ for which there exist globally generated vector bundles on the projective 3-space with Chern classes $c_1 = 5$, $c_2 = a$, $c_3 = b$ (except for the case $(12 , 0)$ and the complementary case $(13 , 5)$ which remain undecide…
We introduce a collection of convex polytopes associated to a torus-equivariant vector bundle on a smooth complete toric variety. We show that the lattice points in these polytopes correspond to generators for the space of global sections and we relate edges to jets. Using the polytopes, we also exhibit toric vector bundles that are ample but not globally generated, and toric vector bundles that are ample and globally generated but not very ample.
Smooth complex surfaces polarized with an ample and globally generated line bundle of degree three and four, such that the adjoint bundle is not globally generated, are considered. Scrolls of a vector bundle over a smooth curve are shown to be the only examples in degree three. Two classes of examples in degree four are presented, one of which is shown to characterize regular such pairs. A Reider-type theorem is obtained in which the assumption on the degree of the polarization is removed.
We classify nef vector bundles on a projective space with first Chern class three over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero; we see, in particular, that these nef vector bundles are globally generated if the second Chern class is less than eight, and that there exist nef but non-globally generated vector bundles with second Chern class eight and nine on a projective plane.
In this note, we prove that the syzygy bundle $M_L$ is cohomologically stable with respect to $L$ for any ample and globally generated line bundle $L$ on an Enriques (resp. bielliptic) surface over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $\neq 2$ (resp. $\neq 2,3$). In particular our result on complex Enriques surfaces improves a result of Torres-López and Zamora by removing a condition on Clifford index. Together with the results of Camere and Caucci--Lahoz, it implies that $M_L$ is stable with respect to $L$ for an ample and globally generated line bundle $L$ on any smooth minimal co…
We show that if $X$ is an abelian variety of dimension $g \geq 1$ and ${\mathcal E}$ is an M-regular coherent sheaf on $X$, the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of ${\mathcal E}$ with respect to an ample and globally generated line bundle ${\mathcal O}(1)$ on $X$ is at most $g$, and that equality is obtained when ${\mathcal E}^{\vee}(1)$ is continuously globally generated. As an application, we give a numerical characterization of ample semihomogeneous vector bundles for which this bound is attained.
In this paper, we show that every invertible subsheaf of the cotangent bundle of a smooth globally $F$-regular threefold of characteristic $p>3$ has Iitaka dimension less than or equal to one.
Let $(X, H)$ be a polarized smooth projective algebraic surface and $E$ is globally generated, stable vector bundle on $X$. Then the Syzygy bundle $M_E$ associated to it is defined as the kernel bundle corresponding to the evaluation map. In this article we will study the stability property of $M_E$ with respect to $H$.
In this short article, we determine the bigness of the tangent bundle $T_X$ of the projective bundle $X=\mathbb{P}_C(E)$ associated to a vector bundle $E$ on a smooth projective curve $C$.
In this paper we show that semistable vector bundles on a Castelnuovo curve of genus g >= 2 have theta divisors. As a corollary, we deduce that semistable vector bundles on a smooth, general curve of genus g >= 2 which extend to semistable vector bundles on any Castelnuovo degeneration of the general curve admit a theta divisor.
We prove that the moduli spaces of parabolic symplectic/orthogonal bundles on a smooth curve are globally F regular type. As a consequence, all higher cohomology of theta line bundle vanish. During the proof, we develop a method to estimate codimension, and consider the infinite grassmannians for parabolic $G$ bundles.
We observe that the proof of the Bogomolov stable restriction theorem can be adapted to give an ampleness criterion for globally generated rank 2 vector bundles on certain surfaces. This applies to the Lazarsfeld-Mukai bundles, to congruences of lines in P^3, and possibly to the construction of surfaces with ample cotangent bundle (help welcome!).
The variety of minimal rational tangents associated to Hecke curves was used by J.-M.Hwang [8] to prove the simplicity of the tangent bundle on the moduli of vector bundles over a curve. In this paper, we use the tangent maps of the symplectic and orthogonal Hecke curves to prove an analogous result for symplectic and orthogonal bundles. In particular, we show the nondegeneracy of the associated variety of minimal rational tangents, which implies the simplicity of the tangent bundle on the moduli spaces of symplectic and orthogonal bundles over a curve. We also show that for large enough genus…
As in our previous work [1] we address the problem to determine the splitting of the normal bundle of rational curves. With apolarity theory we are able to characterize some particular subvarieties in some Hilbert scheme of rational curves, defined by the splitting type of the normal bundle and the restricted tangent bundle.
We determine the splitting (isomorphism) type of the normal bundle of a generic genus-0 curve with 1 or 2 components in any projective space, as well as the (sometimes nontrivial) way the bundle deforms locally with a general deformation of the curve. We deduce an enumerative formula for divisorial loci of smooth rational curves whose normal bundle is of non-generic splitting type.
In this article, we introduce the notion of periodic de Rham bundles over smooth complex curves. We prove that motivic de Rham bundles over smooth complex curves are periodic. We conjecture that irreducible periodic de Rham bundles over smooth complex curves are motivic. We show that the conjecture holds for rank one objects and rigid objects.
We study the splitting properties of the Verlinde bundles over elliptic curves. Our methods rely on the explicit description of the moduli space of semistable vector bundles on elliptic curves, and on the analysis of the symmetric powers of the Schrodinger representation of the Theta group.
We prove moduli spaces of semistable parabolic bundles and generalized parabolic sheaves with fixed determinant on a smooth projective curve are globally $F$-regular type.
In this paper we study Brill-Noether loci for rank-two vector bundles and describe the general member of some components as suitable extensions of line bundles.
Let $M$ denote the moduli space of stable vector bundles of rank $n$ and fixed determinant of degree coprime to $n$ on a non-singular projective curve $X$ of genus $g \geq 2$. Denote by $\cU$ a universal bundle on $X \times M$. We show that, for $x,y \in X, x \neq y$, the restrictions $\cU|\{x\} \times M$ and $\cU|\{y\} \times M$ are stable and non-isomorphic when considered as bundles on $X$.
Given a vector bundle $E$ on a tree of smooth rational curves $C$, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a vector bundle $E'$ on $\mathbb{P}^1$ to specialize to $E$ on $C$, generalizing the rank 2 case, due to Coskun.
M. Nori proved that on a projective smooth variety, a bundle is finite, (that is the ring it generates has dimension 0), if and only if it trivializes on a finite cover. In this note, we consider bundles of degree 0 on an elliptic curve. We prove that the dimension of the ring generated by such a bundle is the same as the dimension of a torsor trivializing the bundle (and is 1).
We give a cohomological criterion for a parabolic vector bundle on a curve to be semistable. It says that a parabolic vector bundle $E$ with rational parabolic weights is semistable if and only if there is another parabolic vector bundle $F$ with rational parabolic weights such that the cohomologies of the vector bundle underlying the para- bolic tensor product $E \otimes F$ vanish. This criterion generalizes the known semistability criterion of Faltings for vector bundles on curves and significantly improves the result in [Bis07].
We compute a formula for the discriminant of tautological bundles on symmetric powers of a complex smooth projective curve. It follows that the Bogomolov inequality does not give a new restriction to stability of these tautological bundles. It only rules out tautological bundles which are already known to have the structure sheaf as a destabilising subbundle.
The stable rationality of components of the moduli space of (unparametrized) rational curves in projective $n$-space with fixed normal bundle is proved, provided these components dominate the moduli space of immersed rational curves in the plane.
Let $X$ be a smooth projective curve defined over an algebraically closed field $k$, and let $E$ be a vector bundle on $X$. We compute the nef cone of any flag bundle associated to $E$.
Let $C$ be a smooth irreducible projective curve and $E$ be a rank 2 stable vector bundle on $C$. Then one can associate a rank 4 vector bundle $\mathcal{F}_2(E)$ on $S^2(C)$, second symmetric power of $C$. Our goal in this article is to study semistability of this bundle.
We treat the problem of completing the moduli space for roots of line bundles on curves. Special attention is devoted to higher spin curves within the universal Picard scheme. Two new different constructions, both using line bundles on nodal curves as boundary points, are carried out and compared with pre-existing ones.
Given a curve over a finite field, we compute the number of stable bundles of not necessarily coprime rank and degree over it. We apply this result to compute the virtual Poincare polynomials of the moduli spaces of stable bundles over a curve. A similar formula for the virtual Hodge polynomials and motives is conjectured.
Let U(r) be the moduli space of rank r vector bundles with trivial determinant on a smooth curve of genus 2. The map theta_r: U(r) -> |r Theta|, which associates to a general bundle its theta divisor, is generically finite. In this paper we give a geometric interpretation of the generic fibre of theta_r.
