We consider the unramified Iwasawa module $X (F_\infty)$ of a certain $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension $F_\infty/F_0$ generated by division points of an elliptic curve with complex multiplication. This $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension has properties similar to those of the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of a real abelian field, however, it is already known that $X (F_\infty)$ can be infinite. That is, an analog of Greenberg's conjecture for this $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension fails. In this paper, we mainly consider analogs of weak forms of Greenberg's conjecture.
Let $p$ be a prime number. We show that, there exists an infinite family of imaginary abelian fields such that, the Iwasawa module of the maximal multiple ${\Bbb Z}_p$-extension is non trivial and pseudo-null for each field in the family. We also discuss on an application to non-abelian Iwasawa theory in the sense of Ozaki.
For an odd prime number $p$, we study the number of generators of the unramified Iwasawa modules of the maximal multiple $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions over Iwasawa algebra. In a previous paper of the authors, under several assumptions for an imaginary quadratic field, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the Iwasawa module to be cyclic as a module over the Iwasawa algebla. Our main result is to give methods for computation and numerical examples about the results. We remark that our results do not need the assumption that Greenberg's generalized conjecture holds.
For a CM-field $K$ and an odd prime number $p$, let $\widetilde K'$ be a certain multiple $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K$. In this paper, we study several basic properties of the unramified Iwasawa module $X_{\widetilde K'}$ of $\widetilde K'$ as a $\mathbb{Z}_p[[{\rm Gal}(\widetilde K'/K)]]$-module. Our first main result is a description of the order of a Galois coinvariant of $X_{\widetilde K'}$ in terms of the characteristic power series of the unramified Iwasawa module of the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K$ under a certain assumption on the splitting of primes above $p$. Second …
In this paper the new techniques and results concerning the structure theory of modules over non-commutative Iwasawa algebras are applied to arithmetic: we study Iwasawa modules over p-adic Lie extensions K of number fields k "up to pseudo-isomorphism". In particular, a close relationship is revealed between the Selmer group of abelian varieties, the Galois group of the maximal abelian unramified p-extension of K as well as the Galois group of the maximal abelian outside S unramified p-extension where S is a finite set of certain places of k. Moreover, we determine the Galois module structure …
Let l be an odd prime and K/k a Galois extension of totally real number fields with Galois group G such that K/k_\infty and k/Q are finite. We reduce the conjectured triviality of the reduced Whitehead group SK_1(QG) of the algebra QG=Quot(ΛG) with the Iwasawa algebra ΛG = Z_l[[G]] to the case of pro-l Galois groups G and finite unramified coefficient extensions.
Let $K=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-q})$, where $q$ is any prime number congruent to $7$ modulo $8$, with ring of integers $\mathcal{O}$ and Hilbert class field $H$. Suppose $p\nmid [H:K]$ is a prime number which splits in $K$, say $p\mathcal{O}=\mathfrak{p}\mathfrak{p}^*$. Let $H_\infty=HK_\infty$ where $K_\infty$ is the unique $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K$ unramified outside $\mathfrak{p}$. Write $M(H_\infty)$ for the maximal abelian $p$-extension of $H_\infty$ unramified outside the primes above $\mathfrak{p}$, and set $X(H_\infty)=\mathrm{Gal}(M(H_\infty)/H_\infty)$. In this paper, we establish the…
For a prime number $p$ and a number field $k$, let $\tilde{k}$ be the compositum of all $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions of $k$. Greenberg's Generalized Conjecture (GGC) claims the pseudo-nullity of the unramified Iwasawa module $X(\tilde{k})$ of $\tilde{k}$. It is known that, when $k$ is an imaginary quadratic field, GGC has a consequence on the Iwasawa invariants associated to $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions of $k$. In this paper, we partially generalize it to arbitrary number fields $k$.
In classical Iwasawa theory, we mainly study codimension one behavior of arithmetic modules. Relatively recently, F. M. Bleher, T. Chinburg, R. Greenberg, M. Kakde, G. Pappas, R. Sharifi, and M. J. Taylor started studying higher codimension behavior of unramified Iwasawa modules which are conjectured to be pseudo-null. In this paper, by developing a general algebraic theory on perfect complexes, we obtain a new perspective of their work. That allows us to extend the results to equivariant settings and, even in non-equivariant settings, to obtain more refined results concerning the higher codim…
We establish the Iwasawa main conjecture for semi-stable abelian varieties over a function field of characteristic $p$ under certain restrictive assumptions. Namely we consider $p$-torsion free $p$-adic Lie extensions of the base field which contain the constant $\mathbb Z_p$-extension and are everywhere unramified. Under the classical $μ=0$ hypothesis we give a proof which mainly relies on the interpretation of the Selmer complex in terms of $p$-adic cohomology [TV] together with the trace formulas of [EL1].
In this paper we prove that the $p$-adic $L$-function that interpolates the Rankin-Selberg product of a general weight two modular form which is unramified and non-ordinary at $p$, and an ordinary CM form of higher weight contains the characteristic ideal of the corresponding Selmer group. This is one divisibility of the Iwasawa-Greenberg main conjecture for the $p$-adic $L$-function. This generalizes an earlier work of the author to the non-ordinary case. The result of this paper plays a crucial role in the proof of Iwasawa main conjecture and refined Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer formula for supersi…
Let $L/K$ be a finite Galois extension of $p$-adic fields and let $L_{\infty}$ be the unramified $\mathbb Z_p$-extension of $L$. Then $L_{\infty}/K$ is a one-dimensional $p$-adic Lie extension. In the spirit of the main conjectures of equivariant Iwasawa theory, we formulate a conjecture which relates the equivariant local epsilon constants attached to the finite Galois intermediate extensions $M/K$ of $L_{\infty}/K$ to a natural arithmetic invariant arising from the étale cohomology of the constant sheaf $\mathbb Q_p/\mathbb Z_p$ on the spectrum of $L_{\infty}$. We give strong evidence of the…
Let $K$ be a finite unramified extension of $\Qp$ and let $V$ be a crystalline representation of $\mathrm{Gal}(\Qpbar/K)$. In this article, we give a proof of the $C_{\mathrm{EP}}(L,V)$ conjecture for $L \subset \Qp^{\mathrm{ab}}$ as well as a proof of its equivariant version $C_{\mathrm{EP}}(L/K,V)$ for $L \subset \cup_{n=1}^\infty K(ζ_{p^n})$. The main ingredients are the $δ_{\Zp}(V)$ conjecture about the integrality of Perrin-Riou's exponential, which we prove using the theory of $(ϕ,Γ)$-modules, and Iwasawa-theoretic descent techniques used to show that $δ_{\Zp}(V)$ implies $C_{\mathrm{EP}…
For a prime number p, we denote by K the cyclotomic Z_p-extension of a number field k. For a finite set S of prime numbers, we consider the S-ramified Iwasawa module which is the Galois group of the maximal abelian pro-p-extension of K unramified outside S. This paper treats the case where S does not contain p and k is the rational number field or an imaginary quadratic field. In this case, we prove the explicit formulae for the free ranks of the S-ramified Iwasawa modules as abelian pro-p groups, by using Brumer's p-adic version of Baker's theorem on the linear independence of logarithms of a…
We consider the family of CM-fields which are pro-p p-adic Lie extensions of number fields of dimension at least two, which contain the cyclotomic Z_p-extension, and which are ramified at only finitely many primes. We show that the Galois groups of the maximal unramified abelian pro-p extensions of these fields are not always pseudo-null as Iwasawa modules for the Iwasawa algebras of the given p-adic Lie groups. The proof uses Kida's formula for the growth of lambda-invariants in cyclotomic Z_p-extensions of CM-fields. In fact, we give a new proof of Kida's formula which includes a slight weak…
We prove a functional equation for two projective systems of finite abelian $p$-groups, $\{\fa_n\}$ and $\{\fb_n\}$, endowed with an action of $\ZZ_p^d$ such that $\fa_n$ can be identified with the Pontryagin dual of $\fb_n$ for all $n$. Let $K$ be a global field. Let $L$ be a $\ZZ_p^d$-extension of $K$ ($d\geq 1$), unramified outside a finite set of places. Let $A$ be an abelian variety over $K$. We prove an algebraic functional equation for the Pontryagin dual of the Selmer group of $A$.
Let $K = \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-q})$, where $q$ is any prime number congruent to $7$ modulo $8$, and let $\mathcal{O}$ be the ring of integers of $K$. The prime $2$ splits in $K$, say $2\mathcal{O} = \mathfrak{p} \mathfrak{p}^\ast$, and there is a unique $\mathbb{Z}_2$-extension $K_\infty$ of $K$, which is unramified outside $\mathfrak{p}$. Let $H$ be the Hilbert class field of $K$, and write $H_\infty = HK_\infty$. Let $M(H_\infty)$ be the maximal abelian $2$-extension of $H_\infty$, which is unramified outside the primes above $\mathfrak{p}$, and put $X(H_\infty) = \mathrm{Gal}(M(H_\infty)/H_\inf…
Let D be a finite-dimensional central division algebra over a field K. We define the genus gen(D) of D to be the collection of classes in the Brauer group of K represented by central division K-algebras D' having the same maximal subfields as D. In this paper, we describe a general approach to proving the finiteness of gen(D) and estimating its size that involves the unramified Brauer group with respect to an appropriate set of discrete valuations of K.
Let p be an odd prime satisfying Vandiver's conjecture. We consider two objects, the Galois group X of the maximal unramified abelian pro-p extension of the compositum of all Z_p-extensions of the pth cyclotomic field and the Galois group G of the unramified pro-p extension of the cyclotomic field of all p-power roots of unity. We give a lower bound for the height of the annihilator of X as an Iwasawa module. Under some mild assumptions on Bernoulli numbers, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition for G to be abelian. The bound and the condition in the two results are given in terms of…
A result of Bleher, Chinburg, Greenberg, Kakde, Pappas, Sharifi and Taylor has initiated the topic of higher codimension Iwasawa theory. As a generalization of the classical Iwasawa main conjecture, they prove a relationship between analytic objects (a pair of Katz's $2$-variable $p$-adic $L$-functions) and algebraic objects (two "everywhere unramified'' Iwasawa modules) involving codimension two cycles in a $2$-variable Iwasawa algebra. We prove a result by considering the restriction to an imaginary quadratic field $K$ (where an odd prime $p$ splits) of an elliptic curve $E$, defined over $\…
Let p be an odd prime, and k_\infty the cyclotomic Z_p-extension of an abelian field k. For a finite set S of rational primes which does not include p, we will consider the maximal S-ramified abelian pro-p extension M_S(k_\infty) over k_\infty. We shall give a formula of the Z_p-rank of Gal(M_S(k_\infty)/k_\infty). In the proof of this formula, we also show that M_{q}(k_\infty)/L(k_\infty) is a finite extension for every real abelian field k and every rational prime q distinct from p, where L(k_\infty) is the maximal unramified abelian pro-p extension over k_\infty.
This paper contains a complete proof of Fukaya's and Kato's epsilon$-isomorphism conjecture in [23] for invertible Λ-modules (the case of V = V_0(r) where V_0 is unramified of dimension 1). Our results rely heavily on Kato's unpublished proof of (commutative) epsilon-isomorphisms for one dimensional representations of G_{Q_p} in [27], but apart from fixing some sign-ambiguities in (loc.\ cit.) we use the theory of (ϕ,Γ)-modules instead of syntomic cohomology. Also, for the convenience of the reader we give a slight modification or rather reformulation of it in the language of [23] and extend i…
Let $Π$ be a cuspidal automorphic representation of $\mathrm{GL}_{2n}(\mathbb{A_Q})$ and let $p$ be an odd prime at which $Π$ is unramified. In a recent work, Barrera, Dimitrov and Williams constructed possibly unbounded $p$-adic $L$-functions interpolating complex $L$-values of $Π$ in the non-ordinary case. Under certain assumptions, we construct two \textit{bounded} $p$-adic $L$-functions for $Π$, thus extending an earlier work of Rockwood by relaxing the Pollack condition. Using Langlands local-global compatibility, we define signed Selmer groups over the $p$-adic cyclotomic extension of $\…
In this paper, we relate three objects. The first is a particular value of a cup product in the cohomology of the Galois group of the maximal unramified outside p extension of a cyclotomic field containing the pth roots of unity. The second is an Iwasawa module over a nonabelian extension of the rationals, a subquotient of the maximal pro-p abelian unramified completely split at p extension of a certain pro-p Kummer extension of a cyclotomic field that contains all p-power roots of unity. The third is the quotient of an Eisenstein ideal in an ordinary Hecke algebra of Hida by the square of the…
In this article we construct characteristic elements for a certain class of Iwasawa modules in noncommutative Iwasawa theory. These elements live in the first K-group K_1(L_T) of the localisation L_T of the Iwasawa algebra L=L(G) of a p-adic Lie group G with respect to a certain Ore-Set T. The evaluation of the characteristic element of a module M under the Iwasawa algebra of the p-adic Lie group G is related to the (twisted) G-Euler characteristic of M. We apply these results to study the arithmetic of elliptic curves E (without CM) defined over a number field k in the tower K=k(E(p)) of fiel…
In our previous work, by using Kolyvagin derivatives of elliptic units, we constructed ideals C_i of the Iwasawa algebra, and proved that the ideals C_i become "upper bounds" of the higher Fitting ideals of the one and two variable p-adic unramified Iwasawa module X over an abelian extension field K_0 of an imaginary quadratic field K. In this article, by using "non-arithmetic" specialization arguments, we prove that the ideals C_i also become "lower bounds" of the higher Fitting ideals of X. In particular, we show that the ideals C_i determine the pseudo-isomorphism class of X. Note that in t…
In this article we prove some interesting results on field generated by division points of several formal groups of same height, already implicit in the treatment in appendix-A of my M.Sc thesis (Points of Small Height in Certain Nonabelian Extensions). More precisely, under suitable hypothesis we show that the field generated by the division points of several formal groups is equal to the field generated by division points of an individual formal group among them, after a fixed finite unramified extension of base field.
Consider an abelian variety $A$ defined over a global field $K$ and let $L/K$ be a $\Z_p^d$-extension, unramified outside a finite set of places of $K$, with $\Gal(L/K)=Γ$. Let $Λ(Γ):=\Z_p[[Γ]]$ denote the Iwasawa algebra. In this paper, we study how the characteristic ideal of the $Λ(Γ)$-module $X_L$, the dual $p$-primary Selmer group, varies when $L/K$ is replaced by a intermediate $\Z_p^e$-extension.
For a number field $F$ and an odd prime number $p,$ let $\tilde{F}$ be the compositum of all $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions of $F$ and $\tildeΛ$ the associated Iwasawa algebra. Let $G_{S}(\tilde{F})$ be the Galois group over $\tilde{F}$ of the maximal extension which is unramified outside $p$-adic and infinite places. In this paper we study the $\tildeΛ$-module $\mathfrak{X}_{S}^{(-i)}(\tilde{F}):=H_1(G_S(\tilde{F}), \mathbb{Z}_p(-i))$ and its relationship with $X(\tilde{F}(μ_p))(i-1)^Δ,$ the $Δ:=\mathrm{Gal}(\tilde{F}(μ_{p})/\tilde{F})$-invariant of the Galois group over $\tilde{F}(μ_{p})$ of the …
We consider the canonical representation of the absolute Galois group of the rational numbers in the outer automorphism group of the pro-p completion of the fundamental group of the projective line minus 0,1, and infinity. Deligne has conjectured that a certain graded Z_p-Lie algebra arising from this representation becomes a free p-adic Lie algebra on one element in each odd degree starting with 3 when tensored with the Q_p. We construct good choices of these elements and use them to examine the structure of the Z_p-Lie algebra. In particular, we consider how its structure depends upon the re…

Let $\mathbb{K}$ be an imaginary quadratic field such that $2$ splits into two primes $\mathfrak{p}$ and $\bar{\mathfrak{p}}$. Let $\mathbb{K}_{\infty}$ be the unique $\mathbb{Z}_2$-extension of $\mathbb{K}$ unramified outside $\mathfrak{p}$. Let $\mathfrak{f}$ be an ideal coprime to $\mathfrak{p}$ and $\mathbb{L}$ be an arbitrary extension of $\mathbb{K}$ contained in the ray class field $\mathbb{K}(\mathfrak{p}^2\mathfrak{f})$. Let $\mathbb{L}_{\infty}=\mathbb{K}_{\infty}\mathbb{L}$ and let $\mathbb{M}$ be the maximal $p$-abelian, $\mathfrak{p}$-ramified extension of $\mathbb{L}_{\infty}$. W…
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve defined over a number field $K$ where $p$ splits completely. Suppose that $E$ has good reduction at all primes above $p$. Generalizing previous works of Kobayashi and Sprung, we define multiply signed Selmer groups over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of a finite extension $F$ of $K$ where $p$ is unramified. Under the hypothesis that the Pontryagin duals of these Selmer groups are torsion over the corresponding Iwasawa algebra, we show that the Mordell-Weil ranks of $E$ over a subextension of the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension are bounded. Furthermore,…
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve---defined over a number field $K$---without complex multiplication and with good ordinary reduction at all the primes above a rational prime $p \geq 5$. We construct a pairing on the dual $p^\infty$-Selmer group of $E$ over any strongly admissible $p$-adic Lie extension $K_\infty/K$ under the assumption that it is a torsion module over the Iwasawa algebra of the Galois group $G=\operatorname{Gal}(K_\infty/K)$. Under some mild additional hypotheses this gives an algebraic functional equation of the conjectured $p$-adic L-function. As an application we construct comp…
The main conjectures of Iwasawa theory provide the only general method known at present for studying the mysterious relationship between purely arithmetic problems and the special values of complex L-functions, typified by the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer and its generalizations. Our goal in the present paper is to develop algebraic techniques which enable us to formulate a precise version of such a main conjecture for motives over a large class of p-adic Lie extensions of number fields. The paper ends by formulating and briefly discussing the main conjecture for an elliptic curve E…
Iwasawa theory of modular forms over anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions of imaginary quadratic fields has been studied by several authors, starting from the works of Bertolini-Darmon and Iovita-Spiess, under the crucial assumption that the prime $p$ is unramified in $K$. We start in this article the systematic study of anticyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-functions when $p$ is ramified in $K$. In particular, when $f$ is a weight $2$ modular form attached to an elliptic curve $E/\mathbb{Q}$ having multiplicative reduction at $p$, and $p$ is ramified in $K$, we show an analogue of the exceptional z…
