We extend and improve the existing characterization of the dynamics of general quadratic real polynomial maps with coefficients that depend on a single parameter $λ$, and generalize this characterization to cubic real polynomial maps, in a consistent theory that is further generalized to real $n$-th degree real polynomial maps. In essence, we give conditions for the stability of the fixed points of any real polynomial map with real fixed points. In order to do this, we have introduced the concept of Canonical Polynomial Maps which are topologically conjugate to any polynomial map of the same degree with real fixed points. The stability of the fixed points of canonical polynomial maps has been found to depend solely on a special function termed Product Distance Function for a given fixed point. The values of this product distance determine the stability of the fixed point in question, when it bifurcates, and even when chaos arises, as it passes through what we have termed stability bands. The exact boundary values of these stability bands are yet to be calculated for regions of type greater than one for polynomials of degree higher than three.
Chaotic dynamics can be quite heterogeneous in the sense that in some regions the dynamics are unstable in more directions than in other regions. When trajectories wander between these regions, the dynamics is complicated. We say a chaotic invariant set is heterogeneous when arbitrarily close to each point of the set there are different periodic points with different numbers of unstable dimensions. We call such dynamics heterogeneous chaos (or hetero-chaos), While we believe it is common for physical systems to be hetero-chaotic, few explicit examples have been proved to be hetero-chaotic. Her…
We prove that the set of maps which exhibit distributional chaos of type 1 (DC1) is $C^0$-dense in the space of continuous self-maps of given any compact topological manifold (possibly with boundary).
Recurrence determinism, one of the fundamental characteristics of recurrence quantification analysis, measures predictability of a trajectory of a dynamical system. It is tightly connected with the conditional probability that, given a recurrence, following states of the trajectory will be recurrences. In this paper we study recurrence determinism of interval dynamical systems. We show that recurrence determinism distinguishes three main types of $ω$-limit sets of zero entropy maps: finite, solenoidal without non-separable points, and solenoidal with non-separable points. As a corollary we obt…
A continuous map $f$ on a compact metric space $X$ induces in a natural way the map $\tilde f$ on the hyperspace $\mathcal K(X)$ of all closed non-empty subsets of $X$. We study the question of transmission of chaos between $f$ and $\tilde f$. We deal with generic, generic $\varepsilon$-, dense and dense $\varepsilon$-chaos for interval maps. We prove that all four types of chaos transmit from $f$ to $\tilde f$, while the converse transmission from $\tilde f$ to $f$ is true for generic, generic $\varepsilon$- and dense $\varepsilon$-chaos. Moreover, the transmission of dense $\varepsilon$- and…
In this paper, for any given polynomial, by analyzing the limiting behavior of ergodic averages along polynomials of several variables and prime numbers, we prove that for a topology dynamical system, positive entropy implies mean Li-Yoke chaos along non-constant polynomials of several variables and prime numbers.
Dynamical systems on the interval were widely studied because they are among the simplest systems and nevertheless they turn out to have complex dynamics. Many works on chaos were inspired by the behaviour of interval maps. However these systems have many properties that are not found on other spaces. As a consequence, one-dimensional dynamics is very rich and worth a separate study. The aim of this book is to survey the relations between the various sorts of chaos and related notions for continuous interval maps. The papers on this topic are numerous but very scattered in the literature, some…
The use of artificial neural networks as models of chaotic dynamics has been rapidly expanding. Still, a theoretical understanding of how neural networks learn chaos is lacking. Here, we employ a geometric perspective to show that neural networks can efficiently model chaotic dynamics by becoming structurally chaotic themselves. We first confirm neural network's efficiency in emulating chaos by showing that a parsimonious neural network trained only on few data points can reconstruct strange attractors, extrapolate outside training data boundaries, and accurately predict local divergence rates…
In the family of area-contracting Hénon-like maps with zero topological entropy we show that there are maps with infinitely many moduli of stability. Thus one cannot find all the possible topological types for non-chaotic area-contracting Hénon-like maps in a family with finitely many parameters. A similar result, but for the chaotic maps in the family, became part of the folklore a short time after Hénon used such maps to produce what was soon conjectured to be the first non-hyperbolic strange attractor in $\mathbb{R}^2$. Our proof uses recent results about infinitely renormalisable area-cont…
A continuous map $f$ from a compact interval $I$ into itself is densely (resp. generically) chaotic if the set of points $(x,y)$ such that $\limsup_{n\to+\infty}|f^n(x)-f^n(y)|>0$ and $\liminf_{n\to+\infty} |f^n(x)-f^n(y)|=0$ is dense (resp. residual) in $I\times I$. We prove that if the interval map $f$ is densely but not generically chaotic then there is a descending sequence of invariant intervals, each of which containing a horseshoe for $f^2$. It implies that every densely chaotic interval map is of type at most $6$ for Sharkovsky's order (that is, there exists a periodic point of period …
We study discontinuous interval maps generated by the action of erasing block substitutions on the binary expansion. After establishing some general properties of these maps, we categorize erasing block substitutions in a hierarchy of classes displaying progressively stronger erasing character. We investigate how this affects the dynamics of the corresponding interval maps, showing that the richest dynamical behavior (Devaney and Li-Yorke chaos, infinite topological entropy) is achieved at a precise step in this hierarchy, which we name completely erasing substitutions. As the parameters of a map are varied an attractor may vary continuously in the Hausdorff metric. The purpose of this paper is to explore the continuation of chaotic attractors. We argue that this is not a helpful concept for smooth unimodal maps for which periodic windows fill parameter space densely, but that for piecewise-smooth maps it provides a way to delineate structure within parameter regions of robust chaos and form a stronger notion of robustness. We obtain conditions for the continuity of an attractor and demonstrate the results with coupled skew tent maps, the Lozi map, and the bo…
In this paper we study systems of $N$ uniformly expanding coupled maps when $N$ is finite but large. We introduce self-consistent transfer operators that approximate the evolution of measures under the dynamics, and quantify this approximation explicitly with respect to $N$. Using this result, we prove that uniformly expanding coupled maps satisfy propagation of chaos when $N\rightarrow \infty$, and characterize the absolutely continuous invariant measures for the finite dimensional system. The main working assumption is that the expansion is not too small and the strength of the interactions …
