Under the definition of Ricci curvature bounded below for Alexandrov spaces introduced by Zhang-Zhu, we generalize a result by Colding that an n dimentional manifold with Ricci curvature greater or equal to n minus 1 and volume close to that of the unit n sphere is close (in the Gromov-Hausdorff distance) to the sphere, from the case of Riemannian manifolds to the case of Alexandrov spaces, with an additional assumption, roughly speaking, that the rough volume of the set of short cut points is small, following the basic idea in the Riemannian case with necessary modifications because of the only almost everywhere second differentiability of distance functions.
We study closed three-dimensional Alexandrov spaces with a lower Ricci curvature bound in the $\mathsf{CD}^*(K,N)$ sense, focusing our attention on those with positive or nonnegative Ricci curvature. First, we show that a closed three-dimensional $\mathsf{CD}^*(2,3)$-Alexandrov space must be homeomorphic to a spherical space form or to the suspension of $\mathbb{R}P^2$. We then classify closed three-dimensional $\mathsf{CD}^*(0,3)$-Alexandrov spaces.
In this paper we prove that in the class of metric measure spaces with Alexandrov curvature bounded from below the Riemannian curvature-dimension condition $RCD(K,N)$ with $K\in \mathbb{R}$ and $N\in [1,\infty)$ is preserved under doubling and gluing constructions.
We prove a reverse isoperimetric inequality for domains homeomorphic to a disc with the boundary of curvature bounded below lying in two-dimensional Alexandrov spaces of curvature $\geqslant c$. We also study the equality case.
We show that every finite-dimensional Alexandrov space X with curvature bounded from below embeds canonically into a product of an Alexandrov space with the same curvature bound and a Euclidean space such that each affine function on X comes from an affine function on the Euclidean space.
In this paper, we introduce quasi-convex subsets in Alxandrov spaces with lower curvature bound, which include not only all closed convex subsets without boundary but also all extremal subsets. Moreover, we explore several essential properties of such kind of subsets including a generalized Liberman theorem. It turns out that the quasi-convex subset is a nice and fundamental concept to illustrate the similarities and differences between Riemannian manifolds and Alxandrov spaces with lower curvature bound.
This paper aims to give an elementary proof for Toponogov's theorem in Alexandrov geometry with lower curvature bound. The idea of the proof comes from the fact that, in Riemannian geometry, sectional curvature can be embodied in the second variation formula.
Here I show compatibility of two definition of generalized curvature bounds --- the lower bound for sectional curvature in the sense of Alexandrov and lower bound for Ricci curvature in the sense of Lott--Villani--Sturm.
The Gauss curvature measure of a pointed Euclidean convex body is a measure on the unit sphere which extends the notion of Gauss curvature to non-smooth bodies. Alexandrov's problem consists in finding a convex body with given curvature measure. In Euclidean space, A.D. Alexandrov gave a necessary and sufficient condition on the measure for this problem to have a solution. In this paper, we address Alexandrov's problem for convex bodies in the hyperbolic space H m+1. After defining the Gauss curvature measure of an arbitrary hyperbolic convex body, we completely solve Alexandrov's problem in t…
In this note, we prove that positive scalar curvature can pass to three dimensional Ricci limit spaces of non-negative Ricci curvature when it splits off a line. As a corollary, we obtain an optimal Bonnet-Myers type upper bound. Moreover, we obtain a similar statement in all dimensions for Alexandrov spaces of non-negative curvature.
We introduce a new geometric invariant called the obtuse constant of spaces with curvature bounded below. We first find relations between this invariant and the normalized volume. We also discuss the case of maximal obtuse constant equal to $π/2$, where we prove some rigidity for spaces. Although we consider Alexandrov spaces with curvature bounded below, the results are new even in the Riemannian case.
This paper is devoted to prove that if an Alexandrov space of curvature not less than $κ$ with a codimension one extremal subset which admits an isometric involution with respect to the induced length metric, then the metric space obtained by gluing the extremal subset along the isometry is an Alexandrov space of curvature not less than $κ$. This is a generalization of Perelman's doubling and Petrunin's gluing theorems.
We obtain sharp lower bounds on the radii of inscribed balls for strictly convex isoperimetric domains lying in a 2-dimensional Alexandrov metric space of curvature bounded below. We also characterize the case when such bounds are attained.
For a general radially symmetric, non-increasing, non-negative kernel $h\in L ^ 1 _{loc} ( R ^ d)$, we study the rigidity of measurable sets in $R ^ d$ with constant nonlocal $h$-mean curvature. Under a suitable "improved integrability" assumption on $h$, we prove that these sets are finite unions of equal balls, as soon as they satisfy a natural nondegeneracy condition. Both the radius of the balls and their mutual distance can be controlled from below in terms of suitable parameters depending explicitly on the measure of the level sets of $h$. In the simplest, common case, in which $h$ is po…
This paper aims to give a further study on quasi-convex subsets in Alexandrov spaces with lower curvature bound which are introduced in [SSW]. We first provide new insights on quasi-convex subsets (Theorem A and Corollary C), and then as applications of them we explore more properties of quasi-convex subsets.
We characterize Riemannian orbifolds with an upper curvature bound in the Alexandrov sense as reflectofolds, i.e. Riemannian orbifolds all of whose local groups are generated by reflections, with the same upper bound on the sectional curvature. Combined with a result by Lytchak--Thorbergsson this implies that a quotient of a Riemannian manifold by a closed group of isometries has locally bounded curvature (from above) in the Alexandrov sense if and only if it is a reflectofold.
In this paper, we prove the Soul Conjecture in Alexandrov geometry in dimension $4$, i.e. if $X$ is a complete non-compact $4$-dimensional Alexandrov space of non-negative curvature and positive curvature around one point, then a soul of $X$ is a point.
We prove the generalized Margulis lemma with a uniform index bound on an Alexandrov $n$-space $X$ with curvature bounded below, i.e., small loops at $p\in X$ generate a subgroup of the fundamental group of unit ball $B_1(p)$ that contains a nilpotent subgroup of index $\le w(n)$, where $w(n)$ is a constant depending only on the dimension $n$. The proof is based on the main ideas of V.~Kapovitch, A.~Petrunin, and W.~Tuschmann, and the following results: (1) We prove that any regular almost Lipschitz submersion constructed by Yamaguchi on a collapsed Alexandrov space with curvature bounded below…
Given two $n_i$-dimensional Alexandrov spaces $X_i$ of curvature $\ge 1$, the join of $X_1$ and $X_2$ is an $(n_1+n_2+1)$-dimensional Alexandrov space $X$ of curvature $\ge 1$, which contains $X_i$ as convex subsets such that their points are $\frac \pi2$ apart. If a group acts isometrically on a join that preserves $X_i$, then the orbit space is called quotient of join. We show that an $n$-dimensional Alexandrov space $X$ with curvature $\ge 1$ is isometric to a finite quotient of join, if $X$ contains two compact convex subsets $X_i$ without boundary such that $X_1$ and $X_2$ are at least $\…
In 1997, J. Jost [27] and F. H. Lin [39], independently proved that every energy minimizing harmonic map from an Alexandrov space with curvature bounded from below to an Alexandrov space with non-positive curvature is locally Hölder continuous. In [39], F. H. Lin proposed a challenge problem: Can the Hölder continuity be improved to Lipschitz continuity? J. Jost also asked a similar problem about Lipschitz regularity of harmonic maps between singular spaces (see Page 38 in [28]). The main theorem of this paper gives a complete resolution to it.
Let $M_j$ be a sequence of Riemannian manifolds with sectional curvature bound below collapsing to a compact Alexandrov space $X$ of dimension $k$. Suppose that all but finitely many points of $X$ are $(k,δ)$-strained and that the space of directions at each exceptional point contains $k+1$ directions making obtuse angles with each other. We prove that $M_j$ admits a structure of locally trivial fibration over $X$ for sufficiently large $j$. The same is true for collapsing sequences of Alexandrov spaces such that the infimum of the volume of the spaces of directions is sufficiently large relat…
We give an alternative proof for the fact that in $n$-dimensional Alexandrov spaces with curvature bounded below there exists a unique optimal transport plan from any purely $(n-1)$-unrectifiable starting measure, and that this plan is induced by an optimal map.
We study global maxima of distance functions on most Alexandrov surfaces with curvature bounded below, where "most" is used in the sense of Baire categories.
