First order integrals of motion for Schrödinger equations with position dependent masses are classified. Seventeen classes of such equations with non-equivalent symmetries are specified. They include integrable, superintegrable and maximally superintegrable systems. Among them is a system invariant with respect to the Lie algebra of Lorentz group and a system whose integrals of motion form algebra so(4). Three of the obtained systems are solved exactly.
Integrable and superintegrable quantum mechanical systems with position dependent masses invariant with respect to one parametric Lie groups. 1. Systems with cylindric symmetry
The two-dimensional extension of the one-dimensional PDM-Lagrangians and their nonlocal point transformation mappings into constant unit-mass exactly solvable Lagrangians is introduced. The conditions on the related two-dimensional Euler-Lagrange equations' invariance are reported. The mappings from superintegrable linear oscillators into sub-superintegrable nonlinear PDM-oscillators are exemplified by, (i) a sub-superintegrable Mathews-Lakshmanan type-I PDM-oscillator, for a PDM-particle moving in a harmonic oscillator potential, (ii) a sub-superintegrable Mathews-Lakshmanan type-II PDM-oscil…
Quantum mechanical systems with position dependent masses (PDM) admitting for and more dimensional symmetry algebras are classified. Namely, all PDM systems are specified which, in addition to their invariance w.r.t. a three parametric Lie group, admit at least one second order integral of motion. The presented classification is partially extended to the more generic systems which admit one or two parametric Lie groups.
Integrable and superintegrable quantum mechanical systems with position dependent masses invariant with respect to one parametric Lie groups. 2. Systems with dilatation and shift symmetries
The superintegrability of two-dimensional Hamiltonians with a position dependent mass (pdm) is studied (the kinetic term contains a factor $m$ that depends of the radial coordinate). First, the properties of Killing vectors are studied and the associated Noether momenta are obtained. Then the existence of several families of superintegrable Hamiltonians is proved and the quadratic integrals of motion are explicitly obtained. These families include, as particular cases, some systems previously obtained making use of different approaches. We also relate the superintegrability of some of these pd…
We make significant progress toward the classification of 2nd order superintegrable systems on 3-dimensional conformally flat space that have functionally linearly dependent (FLD) symmetry generators, with special emphasis on complex Euclidean space. The symmetries for these systems are linearly dependent only when the coefficients are allowed to depend on the spatial coordinates. The Calogero-Moser system with 3 bodies on a line and 2-parameter rational potential is the best known example of an FLD superintegrable system. We work out the structure theory for these FLD systems on 3D conformall…
We consider a relativistic charged particle in background electromagnetic fields depending on both space and time. We identify which symmetries of the fields automatically generate integrals (conserved quantities) of the charge motion, accounting fully for relativistic and gauge invariance. Using this we present new examples of superintegrable relativistic systems. This includes examples where the integrals of motion are quadratic or nonpolynomial in the canonical momenta.
Second order integrals of motion for 3d quantum mechanical systems with position dependent masses (PDM) are classified. Namely, all PDM systems are specified which, in addition to their rotation invariance, admit at least one second order integral of motion. All such systems appear to be also shape invariant and exactly solvable. Moreover, some of them possess the property of double shape invariance and can be solved using two different superpotentials. Among them there are systems with double shape invariance which present nice bridges between the Coulomb and isotropic oscillator systems. A s…
We consider the classical momentum- or velocity-dependent two-dimensional Hamiltonian given by $$\mathcal H_N = p_1^2 + p_2^2 +\sum_{n=1}^N γ_n(q_1 p_1 + q_2 p_2)^n ,$$ where $q_i$ and $p_i$ are generic canonical variables, $γ_n$ are arbitrary coefficients, and $N\in \mathbb N$. For $N=2$, being both $γ_1,γ_2$ different from zero, this reduces to the classical Zernike system. We prove that $\mathcal H_N$ always provides a superintegrable system (for any value of $γ_n$ and $N$) by obtaining the corresponding constants of the motion explicitly, which turn out to be of higher-order in the momenta…
We present all real quantum mechanical potentials in a two-dimensional Euclidean space that have the following properties: 1. They allow separation of variables of the Schrödinger equation in polar coordinates, 2. They allow an independent fourth order integral of motion, 3. It turns out that their angular dependent part $S(θ)$ does not satisfy any linear differential equation. In this case it satisfies a nonlinear ODE that has the Painlevé property and its solutions can be expressed in terms of the Painlevé transcendent $P_6$. We also study the corresponding classical analogs of these potenti…
The existence of quasi-bi-Hamiltonian structures for a two-dimensional superintegrable $(k_1,k_2,k_3)$-dependent Kepler-related problem is studied. We make use of an approach that is related with the existence of some complex functions which satisfy interesting Poisson bracket relations and that was previously applied to the standard Kepler problem as well as to some particular superintegrable systems as the Smorodinsky-Winternitz (SW) system, the Tremblay-Turbiner-Winternitz (TTW) and Post-Winternitz (PW) systems. We prove that these complex functions are important for two reasons: first, the…
The determination of the first integrals (FIs) of a dynamical system and the subsequent assessment of their integrability or superintegrability in a systematic way is still an open subject. One method which has been developed along these lines for second order autonomous dynamical systems is the so-called direct method. According to this method, one assumes a general functional form for the FI I and requires the condition dI/dt=0 along the dynamical equations. This results to a system of partial differential equations (PDEs) to which one adds the necessary integrability conditions of the invol…
We construct, analytically and numerically, the Wigner distribution functions for the exact solutions of position-dependent effective mass Schrödinger equation for two cases belonging to the generalized Laguerre polynomials. Using a suitable quantum canonical transformation, expectation values of position and momentum operators can be obtained analytically in order to verify the universality of the Heisenberg's uncertainty principle.
We have shown that a Lagrangian for a torus surface can yield second order nonlinear differential equations using the Euler-Lagrange formulation. It is seen that these second order nonlinear differential equations can be transformed into the nonlinear quadratic and Mathews-Lakshmanan equations using the position dependent mass approach developed by Mustafa for the classical systems. Then, we have applied the quantization procedure to the nonlinear quadratic and Mathews-Lakshmanan equations and found their exact solutions.
The n-dimensional extension of the one dimensional Position-dependent mass (PDM) Lagrangians under the nonlocal point transformations by Mustafa 38 is introduced. The invariance of the n-dimensional PDM Euler-Lagrange equations is examined using two possible/different PDM Lagrangian settings. Under the nonlocal point transformation of Mustafa 38, we have shown that the PDM Euler-Lagrange invariance is only feasible for one particular PDM-Lagrangians settings. Namely, when each velocity component is deformed by some dimensionless scalar multiplier that renders the mass…
The revival structures for the X_m exceptional orthogonal polynomials of the Scarf I potential endowed with position-dependent effective mass is studied in the context of the generalized Gazeau-Klauder coherent states. It is shown that in the case of the constant mass, the deduced coherent states mimic full and fractional revivals phenomena. However in the case of position-dependent effective mass, although full revivals take place during their time evolution, there is no fractional revivals as defined in the common sense. These properties are illustrated numerically by means of some specific …
A general non-local point transformation for position-dependent mass Lagrangians and their mapping into a "constant unit-mass" Lagrangians in the generalized coordinates is introduced. The conditions on the invariance of the related Euler-Lagrange equations are reported. The harmonic oscillator linearization of the PDM Euler-Lagrange equations is discussed through some illustrative examples including harmonic oscillators, shifted harmonic oscillators, a quadratic nonlinear oscillator, and a Morse-type oscillator. The Mathews-Lakshmanan nonlinear oscillators are reproduced and some "shifted" Ma…
By means of the unitary transformation, a new way for discussing the ordering prescription of Schrodinger equation with a position-dependent mass (PDM) for isospectral Hamiltonian operators is presented. We show that the ambiguity parameter choices in the kinetic part of the Hamiltonian can be explained through an exact SUSY symmetry as well as a consequence of an accidental symmetry under the Z2 action. By making use of the unitary transformation, we construct coherent states for a family of PDM isospectral Hamiltonians from a suitable choice of ladder operators. We show that these states pre…
We construct arbitrary-order Darboux transformations for Schroedinger equations with energy-dependent potential and position-dependent mass within the Dunkl formalism. Our construction is based on a point transformation that interrelates our equations with the standard Schroedinger case. We apply our method to generate several solvable Dunkl-Schroedinger equations.
The exact solvability and impressive pedagogical implementation of the harmonic oscillator creation and annihilation operators make it a problem of great physical relevance and the most fundamental one in quantum mechanics. So would be the position dependent mass oscillator for the position dependent mass quantum mechanics. We, hereby, construct the position dependent mass creation and annihilation operators for the position dependent mass oscillator via two different approaches. First, via von Roos position dependent mass Hamiltonian and show that the commutation relation between the position…
The study of the Schrödinger equation with the position-dependent effective mass has attracted a lot of attention, due to its applications in many fields of physics, including the properties of the semiconductors, semiconductor heterostructures, graded alloys, quantum liquids, Helium-3 clusters, quantum wells, wires and dots etc. In the present work we obtain several classes of solutions of the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation with position-dependent particle mass. As a first step the single particle Schrödinger equation with position-dependent mass is transformed into an equivalent Riccat…
We construct a Darboux transformation for a class of two-dimensional Dirac systems at zero energy. Our starting equation features a position-dependent mass, a matrix potential, and an additional degree of freedom that can be interpreted either as a magnetic field perpendicular to the plane or a generalized Dirac oscillator interaction. We obtain a number of Darbouxtransformed Dirac equations for which the zero energy solutions are exactly known.
In this paper, we study the time-independent Schrödinger equation within the formalism of position dependent effective mass. For a generalized decomposition of the non-central effective potential, the deformed Schrödinger equation can be easily solved analytically through separation of variables. The energy eigenvalues and the normalization constant of the radial wave functions are obtained, as well as the scattering phase shifts.
By using a point canonical transformation starting from the constant-mass Schrödinger equation for the isotonic potential, it is shown that a semiconfined harmonic oscillator model with a position-dependent mass in the BenDaniel-Duke setting and the same spectrum as the standard harmonic oscillator can be easily constructed and extended to a semiconfined shifted harmonic oscillator, which could result from the presence of a uniform gravitational field. A further generalization is proposed by considering a $m$-dependent position-dependent mass for $0<m<2$ and deriving the associated semiconfine…
In this work we calculate the Cramér-Rao, the Fisher-Shannon and the López-Ruiz-Mancini-Calbert (LMC) complexity measures for eigenstates of a deformed Schrödinger equation, being this intrinsically linked with position-dependent mass (PDM) systems. The formalism presented is illustrated with a particle confined in an infinite potential well. Abrupt variation of the complexity near to the asymptotic value of the PDM-function $m(x)$ and erasure of its asymmetry along with negative values of the entropy density in the position space, are reported as a consequence of the interplay between the def…
We present a new approach to study (1+1)-dimensional Dirac equation in the background of an effective mass $M$ by exploiting the possibility of a position-dependent fermi velocity $v_f$. We explore the resulting structure of the coupled equations and arrive at an interesting constraint of $M$ turning out to be the inverse square of $v_f$. We address several solutions of the effective potential that include the free particle, shifted harmonic oscillator, Morse potential, and CPRS potential.
We investigate the (1+1)-dimensional position-dependent mass Dirac equation within the confines of so(2,1) potential algebra by utilizing the character of a spatial varying Fermi velocity. We examine the combined effects of the two when the Dirac equation is equipped with an external pseuodoscalar potential. Solutions of the three cases induced by so(2, 1) are explored by profitably making use of a point canonical transformation.
