The existence of quasi-bi-Hamiltonian structures for a two-dimensional superintegrable $(k_1,k_2,k_3)$-dependent Kepler-related problem is studied. We make use of an approach that is related with the existence of some complex functions which satisfy interesting Poisson bracket relations and that was previously applied to the standard Kepler problem as well as to some particular superintegrable systems as the Smorodinsky-Winternitz (SW) system, the Tremblay-Turbiner-Winternitz (TTW) and Post-Winternitz (PW) systems. We prove that these complex functions are important for two reasons: first, they determine the integrals of motion, and second they determine the existence of some geometric structures (in this particular case, quasi-bi-Hamiltonian structures).
All the results depend of three parameters ($k_1, k_2, k_3$) in such a way that in the particular case $k_1\ne 0$, $k_2= k_3= 0$, we recover the results of the original Kepler problem (previously studied in SIGMA 12, 010 (2016)). This paper can be considered as divided in two parts and every part present a different approach (different complex functions and different quasi-bi-Hamiltonian structures).
We present sum rules for Clebsch-Gordan coefficients in the framework of SO(4) group-theoretical description of the hydrogen atom. The main results are obtained using properties of the Runge-Lenz- Pauli vector, in particular expressing the matrix elements of the powers of its last component both in spherical and parabolic basis. Connections with Stark effect and diamagnetism of the hydrogen atom are outlined.
The characteristic feature of the Kepler Problem is the existence of the so-called Laplace--Runge--Lenz vector which enables a very simple discussion of the properties of the orbit for the problem. It is found that there are many classes of problems, some closely related to the Kepler Problem and others somewhat remote, which share the possession of a conserved vector which plays a significant rôle in the analysis of these problems.
Superintegrable d - dimensional quantum mechanical systems with spin, which admit a generalized Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector are presented. The systems with spins 0, 1/2 and 1 are considered in detail. All these systems are exactly solvable for arbitrary d, and their solutions are presented explicitly.
van Holten's algorithm is used to construct Runge-Lenz-type conserved quantities, induced by Killing tensors, on curved manifolds. For the generalized Taub-NUT metric, the most general external potential such that the combined system admits a conserved Runge-Lenz-type vector is found. In the multi-center case, the subclass of two-center metric exhibits a conserved Runge-Lenz-type scalar.
The main point of this paper is to examine a "hidden" dynamical symmetry connected with the conservation of Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector (LRL) in the hydrogen atom problem solved by means of noncommutative quantum mechanics (NCQM). The basic features of NCQM will be introduced to the reader, the key one being the fact that the notion of a point, or a zero distance in the considered configuration space, is abandoned and replaced with a "fuzzy" structure in such a way that the rotational invariance is preserved. The main facts about the conservation of LRL vector in both classical and quantum theor…
The universality of the Laplace-Runge-Lenz symmetry in all rotationally symmetric systems is discussed. The independence of the symmetry on the type of interaction is proven using only the most generic properties of the Poisson brackets. Generalized Laplace-Runge-Lenz vectors are definable to be constant (not only piece-wise conserved) for all cases, including systems with open orbits. Applications are included for relativistic Coulomb systems and electromagnetic/gravitational systems in the post-Newtonian approximation. The evidence for the relativistic origin of the symmetry are extended to …
A countable set of superintegrable quantum mechanical systems is presented which admit the dynamical symmetry with respect to algebra so(4). This algebra is generated by the Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector generalized to the case of arbitrary spin. The presented systems describe neutral particles with non-trivial multipole momenta. Their spectra can be found algebraically like in the case of Hydrogen atom. Solutions for the systems with spins 1/2 and 1 are presented explicitly, solutions for spin 3/2 are expressed via solutions of an ordinary differential equation of first order..
We construct the Runge-Lenz vector and symmetry algebra of rational Calogero-Coulomb problem, formulated in terms of Dunkl operators. We find that they are proper deformations of their Coulomb counterpart. Together with similar correspondence between the Calogero-oscillator and oscillator models, this observation permits to claim that most of properties of Coulomb and oscillator systems can be lifted to their Calogero-extended analogs by the proper replacement of momenta by Dunkl momenta operators.
Bertrand's theorem asserts that any spherically symmetric natural Hamiltonian system in Euclidean 3-space which possesses stable circular orbits and whose bounded trajectories are all periodic is either a harmonic oscillator or a Kepler system. In this paper we extend this classical result to curved spaces by proving that any Hamiltonian on a spherically symmetric Riemannian 3-manifold which satisfies the same conditions as in Bertrand's theorem is superintegrable and given by an intrinsic oscillator or Kepler system. As a byproduct we obtain a wide panoply of new superintegrable Hamiltonian s…
We consider a particle moving on a cone and bound to its tip by $1/r$ or harmonic oscillator potentials. When the deficit angle of the cone divided by $2 π$ is a rational number, all bound classical orbits are closed. Correspondingly, the quantum system has accidental degeneracies in the discrete energy spectrum. An accidental SU(2) symmetry is generated by the rotations around the tip of the cone as well as by a Runge-Lenz vector. Remarkably, some of the corresponding multiplets have fractional ``spin'' and unusual degeneracies.
We present a useful proposition for discovering extended Laplace-Runge-Lentz vectors of certain quantum mechanical systems. We propose a new family of superintegrable systems and construct their integrals of motion. We solve these systems via separation of variables in spherical coordinates and obtain their exact energy eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions. We give the quadratic algebra relations satisfied by the integrals of motion. Remarkably these algebra relations involve the Casimir operators of certain higher rank Lie algebras in the structure constants.
For each simple euclidean Jordan algebra $V$, we introduce the analogue of hamiltonian, angular momentum and Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector in the Kepler problem. Being referred to as the universal hamiltonian, universal angular momentum and universal Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector respectively, they are elements in (essentially) the TKK (Tits-Kantor-Koecher) algebra of $V$ and satisfy commutation relations similar to the ones for the hamiltonian, angular momentum and Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector in the Kepler problem. We also give some examples of Poisson realization of the TKK algebra, along with the res…
We consider Dunkl version of Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector associated with a finite Coxeter group $W$ acting geometrically in $\mathbb R^N$ with multiplicity function $g$. This vector generalizes the usual Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector and its components commute with Dunkl-Coulomb Hamiltonian given as Dunkl Laplacian with additional Coulomb potential $γ/r$. We study resulting symmetry algebra $R_{g, γ}(W)$ and show that it has Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt property. In the absence of Coulomb potential this symmetry algebra $R_{g,0}(W)$ is a subalgebra of the rational Cherednik algebra $H_g(W)$. We show that …
The Stäckel transform is applied to the geodesic motion on Euclidean space, through the harmonic oscillator and Kepler-Coloumb potentials, in order to obtain maximally superintegrable classical systems on N-dimensional Riemannian spaces of nonconstant curvature. By one hand, the harmonic oscillator potential leads to two families of superintegrable systems which are interpreted as an intrinsic Kepler-Coloumb system on a hyperbolic curved space and as the so-called Darboux III oscillator. On the other, the Kepler-Coloumb potential gives rise to an oscillator system on a spherical curved space a…
The bound state energy eigenvalues for the two-dimensional Kepler problem are found to be degenerate. This "accidental" degeneracy is due to the existence of a two-dimensional analogue of the quantum-mechanical Runge-Lenz vector. Reformulating the problem in momentum space leads to an integral form of the Schroedinger equation. This equation is solved by projecting the two-dimensional momentum space onto the surface of a three-dimensional sphere. The eigenfunctions are then expanded in terms of spherical harmonics, and this leads to an integral relation in terms of special functions which has …
This work addresses the Hamiltonian dynamics of the Kepler problem in a deformed phase space, by considering the equatorial orbit. The recursion operators are constructed and used to compute the integrals of motion. The same investigation is performed with the introduction of the Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector. The existence of quasi-bi-Hamiltonian structures is also elucidated. Related properties are studied.
The Lie-Poisson algebra so(N+1) and some of its contractions are used to construct a family of superintegrable Hamiltonians on the ND spherical, Euclidean, hyperbolic, Minkowskian and (anti-)de Sitter spaces. We firstly present a Hamiltonian which is a superposition of an arbitrary central potential with N arbitrary centrifugal terms. Such a system is quasi-maximally superintegrable since this is endowed with 2N-3 functionally independent constants of the motion (plus the Hamiltonian). Secondly, we identify two maximally superintegrable Hamiltonians by choosing a specific central potential and…
A family of classical superintegrable Hamiltonians, depending on an arbitrary radial function, which are defined on the 3D spherical, Euclidean and hyperbolic spaces as well as on the (2+1)D anti-de Sitter, Minkowskian and de Sitter spacetimes is constructed. Such systems admit three integrals of the motion (besides the Hamiltonian) which are explicitly given in terms of ambient and geodesic polar coordinates. The resulting expressions cover the six spaces in a unified way as these are parametrized by two contraction parameters that govern the curvature and the signature of the metric on each …
We consider the Kepler problem on surfaces of revolution that are homeomorphic to $S^2$ and have constant Gaussian curvature. We show that the system is maximally superintegrable, finding constants of motion that generalize the Runge-Lentz vector. Then, using such first integrals, we determine the class of surfaces that lead to block-regularizable collision singularities. In particular we show that the singularities are always regularizable if the surfaces are spherical orbifolds of revolution with constant curvature.
A quantum sl(2,R) coalgebra (with deformation parameter z) is shown to underly the construction of superintegrable Kepler potentials on 3D spaces of variable and constant curvature, that include the classical spherical, hyperbolic and (anti-)de Sitter spaces as well as their non-constant curvature analogues. In this context, the non-deformed limit z = 0 is identified with the flat contraction leading to the proper Euclidean and Minkowskian spaces/potentials. The corresponding Hamiltonians admit three constants of the motion coming from the coalgebra structure. Furthermore, maximal superintegra…
The separability and Runge-Lenz-type dynamical symmetry of the internal dynamics of certain two-electron Quantum Dots, found by Simonović et al. [1], is traced back to that of the perturbed Kepler problem. A large class of axially symmetric perturbing potentials which allow for separation in parabolic coordinates can easily be found. Apart of the 2:1 anisotropic harmonic trapping potential considered in [1], they include a constant electric field parallel to the magnetic field (Stark effect), the ring-shaped Hartmann potential, etc. The harmonic case is studied in detail.
A Poisson realization of the simple real Lie algebra $\mathfrak {so}^*(4n)$ on the phase space of each $\mathrm {Sp}(1)$-Kepler problem is exhibited. As a consequence one obtains the Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector for each classical $\mathrm{Sp}(1)$-Kepler problem. The verification of these Poisson realizations is greatly simplified via an idea due to A. Weinstein. The totality of these Poisson realizations is shown to be equivalent to the canonical Poisson realization of $\mathfrak {so}^*(4n)$ on the Poisson manifold $T^*\mathbb H_*^n/\mathrm{Sp}(1)$. (Here $\mathbb H_*^n:=\mathbb H^n\backslash \{…
The superposition of the Kepler-Coulomb potential on the 3D Euclidean space with three centrifugal terms has recently been shown to be maximally superintegrable [Verrier P E and Evans N W 2008 J. Math. Phys. 49 022902] by finding an additional (hidden) integral of motion which is quartic in the momenta. In this paper we present the generalization of this result to the ND spherical, hyperbolic and Euclidean spaces by making use of a unified symmetry approach that makes use of the curvature parameter. The resulting Hamiltonian, formed by the (curved) Kepler-Coulomb potential together with N cent…
The formalism of SUSYQM (SUperSYmmetric Quantum Mechanics) is properly modified in such a way to be suitable for the description and the solution of a classical maximally superintegrable Hamiltonian System, the so-called Taub-Nut system, associated with the Hamiltonian: $$ \mathcal{H}_η({\mathbf{q}}, {\mathbf{p}}) = \mathcal{T}_η({\mathbf{q}}, {\mathbf{p}}) + \mathcal{U}_η({\mathbf{q}}) = \frac{|{\mathbf{q}}| {\mathbf{p}}^2}{2m(η+ |{\mathbf{q}}|)} - \frac{k}{η+ |{\mathbf{q}}|} \quad (k>0, η>0) \, .$$ In full agreement with the results recently derived by A. Ballesteros et al. for the quantum c…
For each simple euclidean Jordan algebra $V$ of rank $ρ$ and degree $δ$, we introduce a family of classical dynamic problems. These dynamical problems all share the characteristic features of the Kepler problem for planetary motions, such as existence of Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector and hidden symmetry. After suitable quantizations, a family of quantum dynamic problems, parametrized by the nontrivial Wallach parameter $ν$, is obtained. Here, $ν\in{\mathcal W}(V):=\{k {δ\over 2}\mid k=1, ..., (ρ-1)\}\cup((ρ-1){δ\over 2}, \infty)$ and was introduced by N. Wallach to parametrize the set of nontrivia…
Hodographs for the Kepler problem are circles. This fact, known since almost two centuries ago, still provides the simplest path to derive the Kepler first law. Through Feynman `lost lecture', this derivation has now reached to a wider audience. Here we look again at Feynman's approach to this problem as well as at the recently suggested modification by van Haandel and Heckman (vHH), with two aims in view, both of which extend the scope of the approach. First we review the geometric constructions of the Feynman and vHH approaches (that prove the existence of {\itshape elliptic} orbits without …
The "curved" Coulomb potential on the S3 ball, whose isometry group is SO(4), takes the form of a cotangent function, and when added to the four-dimensional squared angular momentum operator, one of the so(4) Casimir invariants, a Hamiltonian is obtained which describes a perturbance of the free geodesic motion that results peculiar in several aspects. The spectrum of such a motion has been studied on various occasions and is known to carry unexpectedly so(4) degeneracy patterns despite the non-commutativity of the perturbance with the Casimir operator. We here suggest an explanation for this …
In this paper we clarify and generalise previous work by Moser and Belbruno concerning the link between the motions in the classical Kepler problem and geodesic motion on spaces of constant curvature. Both problems can be formulated as Hamiltonian systems and the phase flow in each system is characterised by the value of the corresponding Hamiltonian and one other parameter (the mass parameter in the Kepler problem and the curvature parameter in the geodesic motion problem). Using a canonical transformation the Hamiltonian vector field for the geodesic motion problem is transformed into one wh…
