The model of the position-dependent noncommutativety in quantum mechanics is proposed. We start with a given commutation relations between the operators of coordinates [x^{i},x^{j}]=ω^{ij}(x), and construct the complete algebra of commutation relations, including the operators of momenta. The constructed algebra is a deformation of a standard Heisenberg algebra and obey the Jacobi identity. The key point of our construction is a proposed first-order Lagrangian, which after quantization reproduces the desired commutation relations. Also we study the possibility to localize the noncommutativety.
Effects of Lie type noncommutativity on thermodynamic properties of a system of free identical particles are investigated. A definition for finite volume of the configuration space is given, and the grandcanonical partition function in the thermodynamic limit is calculated. Two possible definitions for the pressure are discussed, which are equivalent when the noncommutativity vanishes. The thermodynamic observables are extracted from the partition function. Different limits are discussed where either the noncommutativity or the quantum effects are important. Finally specific cases are discusse…
Fring and al in their paper entitled "Strings from position-dependent noncommutativity" have introduced a new set of noncommutative space commutation relations in two space dimensions. It had been shown that any fundamental objects introduced in this space-space non-commutativity are string-like. Taking this result into account, we generalize the seminal work of Fring and al to the case that there is also a maximal length from position-dependent noncommutativity and minimal momentum arising from generalized versions of Heisenberg's uncertainty relations. The existence of maximal length is rela…
Noncommutative quantum mechanics can be considered as a first step in the construction of quantum field theory on noncommutative spaces of generic form, when the commutator between coordinates is a function of these coordinates. In this paper we discuss the mathematical framework of such a theory. The noncommutativity is treated as an external antisymmetric field satisfying the Jacoby identity. First, we propose a symplectic realization of a given Poisson manifold and construct the Darboux coordinates on the obtained symplectic manifold. Then we define the star product on a Poisson manifold an…
Nonrelativistic quantum mechanics and conformal quantum mechanics are deformed through a Jordanian twist. The deformed space coordinates satisfy the Snyder noncommutativity. The resulting deformed Hamiltonians are pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonians of the type discussed by Mostafazadeh. The quantization scheme makes use of the so-called "unfolded formalism" discussed in previous works. A Hopf algebra structure, compatible with the physical interpretation of the coproduct, is introduced for the Universal Enveloping Algebra of a suitably chosen dynamical Lie algebra (the Hamiltonian is contained amon…
A minimum length scale of the order of Planck length is a feature of many models of quantum gravity that seek to unify quantum mechanics and gravitation. Recently, Perivolaropoulos in his seminal work [Phys. Rev.D 95, 103523 (2017)] predicted the simultaneous existence of minimal and maximal length measurements of quantum gravity. More recently, we have shown that both measurable lengths can be obtained from position-dependent noncommutativity [J. Phys. A: Math.Theor. 53, 115303 (2020)]. In this paper, we present an alternative derivation of these lengths from non-Hermitian position-dependent …
A personal view on Julius Wess's human and scientific legacy in Serbia and the Balkan region is given. Motivation for using noncommutative and nonarchimedean geometry on very short distances is presented. In addition to some mathematical preliminaries, we present a short introduction in adelic quantum mechanics in a way suitable for its noncommutative generalization. We also review the basic ideas and tools embedded in $q$-deformed and noncommutative quantum mechanics. A rather fundamental approach, called deformation quantization, is noted. A few relations between noncommutativity and nonarch…
We introduce a new set of noncommutative space-time commutation relations in two space dimensions. The space-space commutation relations are deformations of the standard flat noncommutative space-time relations taken here to have position dependent structure constants. Some of the new variables are non-Hermitian in the most natural choice. We construct their Hermitian counterparts by means of a Dyson map, which also serves to introduce a new metric operator. We propose PTlike symmetries, i.e.antilinear involutory maps, respected by these deformations. We compute minimal lengths and momenta ari…
In this work quantum physics in noncommutative spacetime is developed. It is based on the work of Doplicher et al. which allows for time-space noncommutativity. The Moyal plane is treated in detail. In the context of noncommutative quantum mechanics, some important points are explored, such as the formal construction of the theory, symmetries, causality, simultaneity and observables. The dynamics generated by a noncommutative Schrodinger equation is studied. We prove in particular the following: suppose the Hamiltonian of a quantum mechanical particle on spacetime has no explicit time dependen…
We consider Feynman's path integral approach to quantum mechanics with a noncommutativity in position and momentum sectors of the phase space. We show that a quantum-mechanical system with this kind of noncommutativity is equivalent to the another one with usual commutative coordinates and momenta. We found connection between quadratic classical Hamiltonians, as well as Lagrangians, in their commutative and noncommutative regimes. The general procedure to compute Feynman's path integral on this noncommutative phase space with quadratic Lagrangians (Hamiltonians) is presented. Using this approa…
We study the time dependent transitions of quantum forced harmonic oscillator (QFHO) in noncommutative $\mathds{R}^{1,1}$ perturbatively to linear order in the noncommutativity $θ$. We show that the Poisson distribution gets modified, and that the vacuum state evolves into a "squeezed" state rather than a coherent state. The time evolutions of uncertainties in position and momentum in vacuum are also studied and imply interesting consequences for modeling nonlinear phenomena in quantum optics.
The standard lore in noncommutative physics is the use of first order variational description of a dynamical system to probe the space noncommutativity and its consequences in the dynamics in phase space. As the ultimate goal is to understand the inherent space noncommutativity we propose a variational principle for noncommutative dynamical systems in configuration space, based on results of our previous work [14]. We hope that this variational formulation in configuration space can be of help to elucidate the definition of some global and dynamical properties of classical and quantum noncommu…
We consider a problem of the consistent deformation of physical system introducing a new features, but preserving its fundamental properties. In particular, we study how to implement the noncommutativity of space-time without violation of the rotational symmetry in quantum mechanics or the Lorentz symmetry in f{i}eld theory. Since the canonical (Moyal) noncommutativity breaks the above symmetries one should work with more general case of coordinate-dependent noncommutative spaces, when the commutator between coordinates is a function of these coordinates. F{i}rst we describe in general lines h…
Any quantum-mechanical system possesses a U(1) gerbe naturally defined on configuration space. Acting on Feynman's kernel exp(iS/h), this U(1) symmetry allows one to arbitrarily pick the origin for the classical action S, on a point-by-point basis on configuration space. This is equivalent to the statement that quantum mechanics is a U(1) gauge theory. Unlike Yang-Mills theories, however, the geometry of this gauge symmetry is not given by a fibre bundle, but rather by a gerbe. Since this gauge symmetry is spontaneously broken, an analogue of the Higgs mechanism must be present. We prove that …
We discuss the formulation of classical field theoretical models on $n$-dimensional noncommutative space-time defined by a generic associative star product. A simple procedure for deriving conservation laws is presented and applied to field theories in noncommutative space-time to obtain local conservation laws (for the electric charge and for the energy-momentum tensor of free fields) and more generally an energy-momentum balance equation for interacting fields. For free field models an analogy with the damped harmonic oscillator in classical mechanics is pointed out, which allows us to get a…
The Landau problem in non-commutative quantum mechanics (NCQM) is studied. First by solving the Schr$\ddot{o}$dinger equations on noncommutative(NC) space we obtain the Landau energy levels and the energy correction that is caused by space-space noncommutativity. Then we discuss the noncommutative phase space case, namely, space-space and momentum-momentum non-commutative case, and we get the explicit expression of the Hamiltonian as well as the corresponding eigenfunctions and eigenvalues.
When dealing with the classical limit of two quantum mechanical oscillators on a noncommutative configuration space, the limits corresponding to the removal of configuration-space noncommutativity and position-momentum noncommutativity do not commute. We address this behaviour from the point of view of the phase-space localisation properties of the Wigner functions of coherent states under the two limits.
A motivation of using noncommutative and nonarchimedean geometry on very short distances is given. Besides some mathematical preliminaries, we give a short introduction in adelic quantum mechanics. We also recall to basic ideas and tools embedded in q-deformed and noncommutative quantum mechanics. A rather fundamental approach, called deformation quantization, is noted. A few relations between noncommutativity and nonarchimedean spaces as well as similarities between corresponding quantum theories on them are pointed out. An extended Moyal product in a proposed form of adelic noncommutative qu…
Projecting a quantum theory onto the Hilbert subspace of states with energies below a cutoff $\overline{E}$ may lead to an effective theory with modified observables, including a noncommutative space(time). Adding a confining potential well $V$ with a very sharp minimum on a submanifold $N$ of the original space(time) $M$ may induce a dimensional reduction to a noncommutative quantum theory on $N$. Here in particular we briefly report on our application of this procedure to spheres $S^d\subset\mathbb{R}^D$ of radius $r=1$ ($D=d\!+\!1>1$): making $\overline{E}$ and the depth of the well depend …
A recent method of constructing quantum mechanics in noncommutative coordinates, alternative to implying noncommutativity by means of star product is discussed. Within this approach we study Hall effect as well as quantum phases in noncommutative coordinates. The $θ$--deformed phases which we obtain are velocity independent.
We consider classical and quantum mechanics related to an additional noncommutativity, symmetric in position and momentum coordinates. We show that such mechanical system can be transformed to the corresponding one which allows employment of the usual formalism. In particular, we found explicit connections between quadratic Hamiltonians and Lagrangians, in their commutative and noncommutative regimes. In the quantum case we give general procedure how to compute Feynman's path integral in this noncommutative phase space with quadratic Lagrangians (Hamiltonians). This approach is applied to a ch…
We study some basic and interesting quantum mechanical systems in dynamical noncommutative spaces in which the space- space commutation relations are position dependent. It is observed that the fundamental objects in the dynamical noncommutative space introduced here are stringlike. We show that the Stark effect can be employed to determine whether the noncommutativity of space is dynamical or non-dynamical. It appears that unlike non-dynamical case there is a fundamental energy $\dfrac{τ\hbar^{2}}{m}$ in this dynamical space.}
The notion of position operator for massless spinning particles is discussed in some detail. The noncommutativity of coordinates is related to the gauge symmetry following from the freedom in definition of standard state in Wigner's construction of induced representations of Poincare group. The counterpart of Newton-Wigner operator is discussed. It is explained why the Newton-Wigner construction works only for helicity $ \midλ\mid\leq1/2$.
In the last years noncommutative quantum mechanics has been investigated intensively. We consider the influence of magnetic field on decoherence of a system in the noncommutative quantum plane. Particularly, we point out a model in which the magnetic field allows {\it in situ} dynamical control of decoherence as well as, in principle, observation of noncommutativity.
We propose an exactly-solvable model of the quantum oscillator on the class of Kähler spaces (with conic singularities), connected with two-dimensional complex projective spaces. Its energy spectrum is nondegenerate in the orbital quantum number, when the space has non-constant curvature. We reduce the model to a three-dimensional system interacting with the Dirac monopole. Owing to noncommutativity of the reduction and quantization procedures, the Hamiltonian of the reduced system gets non-trivial quantum corrections. We transform the reduced system into a MIC-Kepler-like one and find that qu…
Noncommutative quantum mechanics on the plane has been widely studied in the literature. Here, we consider the problem using Isham's canonical group quantization scheme for which the primary object is the symmetry group that underlies the phase space. The noncommutativity of the configuration space coordinates requires us to introduce the noncommutative term in the symplectic structure of the system. This modified symplectic structure will modify the group acting on the configuration space from abelian $\mathbb{R}^2$ to a nonabelian one. As a result, the canonical group obtained is a deformed …
Certain aspects of the integrability/solvability of the Calogero-Sutherland-Moser systems and the Ruijsenaars-Schneider-van Diejen systems with rational and trigonometric potentials are reviewed. The equilibrium positions of classical multi-particle systems and the eigenfunctions of single-particle quantum mechanics are described by the same orthogonal polynomials: the Hermite, Laguerre, Jacobi, continuous Hahn, Wilson and Askey-Wilson polynomials. The Hamiltonians of these single-particle quantum mechanical systems have two remarkable properties, factorization and shape invariance.
Quantum mechanical systems with position dependent masses (PDM) admitting for and more dimensional symmetry algebras are classified. Namely, all PDM systems are specified which, in addition to their invariance w.r.t. a three parametric Lie group, admit at least one second order integral of motion. The presented classification is partially extended to the more generic systems which admit one or two parametric Lie groups.
Integrable and superintegrable quantum mechanical systems with position dependent masses invariant with respect to one parametric Lie groups. 1. Systems with cylindric symmetry
Integrable and superintegrable quantum mechanical systems with position dependent masses invariant with respect to one parametric Lie groups. 2. Systems with dilatation and shift symmetries
We propose a model of dynamical noncommutative quantum mechanics in which the noncommutative strengths, describing the properties of the commutation relations of the coordinate and momenta, respectively, are arbitrary energy dependent functions. The Schrödinger equation in the energy dependent noncommutative algebra is derived for a two dimensional system for an arbitrary potential. The resulting equation reduces in the small energy limit to the standard quantum mechanical one, while for large energies the effects of the noncommutativity become important. We investigate in detail three cases, …
We initiate a mathematically rigorous study of Klein-Gordon position operators in single-particle relativistic quantum mechanics. Although not self-adjoint, these operators have real spectrum and enjoy a limited form of spectral decomposition. The associated C*-algebras are identifiable as crossed products. We also introduce a variety of non self-adjoint operator algebras associated with the Klein-Gordon position representation; these algebras are commutative and continuously (but not homeomorphically) embeddable in corresponding function algebras. Several open problems are indicated.
We present the quantum and classical mechanics formalisms for a particle with position-dependent mass in the context of a deformed algebraic structure (named $κ$-algebra), motivated by the Kappa-statistics. From this structure we obtain deformed versions of the position and momentum operators, which allow to define a point canonical transformation that maps a particle with constant mass in a deformed space into a particle with position-dependent mass in the standard space. We illustrate the formalism with a particle confined in an infinite potential well and the Mathews-Lakshmanan oscillator, …
