We examine universal curvature identities for pseudo-Riemannian manifolds with boundary. We determine the Euler-Lagrange equations associated to the Chern-Gauss-Bonnet formula and show that they are given solely in terms of curvature {and the second fundamental form and do not involve covariant derivatives thus generalizing a conjecture of Berger to this context.
Patterson discussed the curvature identities on Riemannian manifolds in [14], and a curvature identity for any 6-dimensional Riemannian manifold was independently derived from the Chern-Gauss-Bonnet Theorem [8]. In this paper, we provide the explicit formulae of Patterson's curvature identity that holds on 5-dimensional and 6-dimensional Einstein manifolds. We confirm that the curvature identities on the Einstein manifold from the previous work [8] are the same as the curvature identities deduced from Patterson's result. We also provide examples that support the theorems.
In this paper, we systematically compute the Bianchi identities for the canonical connection on an almost Hermitian manifold. Moreover, we also compute the curvature tensor of the Levi-Civita connection on almost Hermitian manifolds in terms of curvature and torsion of the canonical connection. As applications of the curvature identities, we obtain some results about the integrability of quasi Kaehler manifolds and some properties of nearly Kaehler manifolds.
We give a new proof of the generalized Minkowski identities relating the higher degree mean curvatures of orientable closed hypersurfaces immersed in a given constant sectional curvature manifold. Our methods rely on a fundamental differential system of Riemannian geometry introduced by the author. We develop the notion of position vector field, which lies at the core of the Minkowski identities.
On basic curvature identities for almost (para)contact metric manifolds
The Bianchi identities for bosonic fluxes in supergravity can receive higher derivative quantum and string corrections, the most well known being that of Heterotic theory $d H = \tfrac{1}{4}α'(\text{tr } F^2 - \text{tr } R^2)$. Less studied are the modifications at order $R^4$ that may arise, for example, in the Bianchi identity for the seven-form flux of M theory compactifications. We argue that such corrections appear to be incompatible with the exceptional generalised geometry description of the lower order supergravity, and seem to imply a gauge algebra for the bosonic potentials that cann…
We find the first three most general Minkowski or Hsiung-Minkowski identities relating the total mean curvatures $H_i$, of degrees $i=1,2,3$, of a closed hypersurface $N$ immersed in a given orientable Riemannian manifold $M$ endowed with any given vector field $P$. Then we specialise the three identities to the case when $P$ is a position vector field. We further obtain that the classical Minkowski identity is natural to all Riemannian manifolds and, moreover, that a corresponding 1st degree Hsiung-Minkowski identity holds true for all Einstein manifolds. We apply the result to hypersurfaces …
The present paper is devoted to quasi-Para-Sasakian manifolds. Basic properties of such manifolds are obtained and general curvature identities are investigated. Next it is proved that if $M$ is quasi-Para-Sasakian manifold of constant curvature $K$. Then $K$ $\leq 0$ and $(i)~$if $K=0$, the manifold is paracosymplectic, $(ii)$ if $K<0$, the quasi-para-Sasakian structure of $M$ is obtained by a homothetic deformation of a para-Sasakian structure.
The aim of this paper is to present a version of the generalized Pohozaev-Schoen identity in the context of asymptotically euclidean manifolds. Since these kind of geometric identities have proven to be a very powerful tool when analysing different geometric problems for compact manifolds, we will present a variety of applications within this new context. Among these applications, we will show some rigidity results for asymptotically euclidean Ricci-solitons and Codazzi-solitons. Also, we will present an almost-Schur-type inequality valid in this non-compact setting which does not need restric…
In this paper, we firstly investigate some relations regarding the first and the second Laplace operators corresponding to the third fundamental form III of a surface in the Euclidean space E3. Besides, we introduce the finite Chen type surfaces of revolution with nonvanishing Gauss curvature with respect to the third fundamental form. We present a special case of this family of surfaces of revolution in E3, namely, surfaces of revolution with R is constant, where R denotes the sum of the radii of the principal curvature of a surface.
Using Rauch's comparison theorem, we prove several monotonicity inequalities for Riemannian submanifolds. Our main result is a general Li-Yau inequality which is applicable in any Riemannian manifold whose sectional curvature is bounded above (possibly positive). We show that the monotonicity inequalities can also be used to obtain Simon type diameter bounds, Sobolev inequalities and corresponding isoperimetric inequalities for Riemannian submanifolds with small volume. Moreover, we infer lower diameter bounds for closed minimal submanifolds as corollaries. All the statements are intrinsic in …
We show that, in toric manifolds, one can characterize the sign of the Ricci curvature in terms of the convexity of the volume functional. More generally we discuss relationships between (i) Ricci curvature and volume, (ii) totally real and Lagrangian submanifolds, (iii) pluri-subharmonic functions and convexity.
We prove transverse Weitzenböck identities for the horizontal Laplacians of a totally geodesic foliation. As a consequence, we obtain nullity theorems for the de Rham cohomology assuming only the positivity of curvature quantities transverse to the leaves. Those curvature quantities appear in the adiabatic limit of the canonical variation of the metric.
Work of D. Stern and Bray-Kazaras-Khuri-Stern provide differential-geometric identities which relate the scalar curvature of Riemannian 3-manifolds to global invariants in terms of harmonic functions. These quantitative formulas are useful for stability results and show promise for more applications of this type. In this paper, we analyze harmonic maps to flat model spaces in order to address conjectures concerning the geometric stability of the positive mass theorem and the Geroch conjecture. By imposing integral Ricci curvature and isoperimetric bounds, we leverage the previously mentioned f…
Given a smooth positive measure $μ$ on a complete Hermitian manifold with Ricci curvature bounded from below, we prove a pointwise Agmon-type bound for the corresponding Bergman kernel, under rather general conditions involving the coercivity of an associated complex Laplacian on $(0,1)$-forms. Thanks to an appropriate version of the Bochner--Kodaira--Nakano basic identity, we can give explicit geometric sufficient conditions for such coercivity to hold. Our results extend several known bounds in the literature to the case in which the manifold is neither assumed to be Kähler nor of "bounded g…
