We study the right regular representation on the space $L^2(N_0\setminus G;ψ)$ where $G$ is a quasi-split $p$-adic group and $ψ$ a non-degenerate unitary character of the unipotent subgroup $N_0$ of a minimal parabolic subgroup of $G$. We obtain the direct integral decomposition of this space into its constituent representations. In particular, we deduce that the discrete spectrum of $L^2(N_0\setminus G;ψ)$ consists precisely of $ψ$ generic discrete series representations and derive the Plancherel formula for $L^2(N_0\setminus G;ψ)$.
The aim of this article is to present a simple generalized Plancherel formula for a locally compact unimodular topological group G of type I. This formula specializes to the Whittaker-Plancherel formula for a split reductive p-adic group of Sakellaridis-Venkatesh and differs from that of a quasi-split p-adic group due to Delorme. Furthermore, it also applies to certain metaplectic groups and other interesting situations where the local theory of distinguished representations has been studied.
In this paper we study the Plancherel formula for a new class of homogeneous spaces for real reductive Lie groups; these spaces are fibered over non-Riemannian symmetric spaces, and they exhibit a phenomenon of uniform infinite multiplicities. They also provide examples of non-tempered representations of the group appearing in the Plancherel formula. Several classes of examples are given.
In this paper, we establish a Whittaker-Plancherel inversion formula for $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C})$ from the analytic perspective of the Bessel transform of Bruggeman and Motohashi. The formula gives a decomposition of the Whittaker-Fourier coefficient of a compactly supported function on $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C})$ in terms of its Bessel coefficients attached to irreducible unitary tempered representations of $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C})$.
In this paper we consider $G=\operatorname{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ and $H$ the subgroup of diagonal matrices. Then $X=G/H$ is a unimodular homogeneous space which can be identified with the one-sheeted hyperboloid. For each unitary character $χ$ of $H$ we decompose the induced representations $\operatorname{Ind}_H^G(χ)$ into irreducible unitary representations, known as a Plancherel formula. This is done by studying explicit intertwining operators between $\operatorname{Ind}_H^G(χ)$ and principal series representations of $G$. These operators depends holomorphically on the induction parameters.
We prove Lusztig's conjectures ${\bf P1}$-${\bf P15}$ for the affine Weyl group of type $\tilde{C}_2$ for all choices of positive weight function. Our approach to computing Lusztig's $\mathbf{a}$-function is based on the notion of a `balanced system of cell representations'. Once this system is established roughly half of the conjectures ${\bf P1}$-${\bf P15}$ follow. Next we establish an `asymptotic Plancherel Theorem' for type $\tilde{C}_2$, from which the remaining conjectures follow. Combined with existing results in the literature this completes the proof of Lusztig's conjectures for all …
We provide a Plancherel decomposition for the space of symplectic bilinear forms of rank $2n$ over a local non-archimedean field $F$ in terms of that of $GL_n(F)$.
We establish an explicit Plancherel decomposition for $\mathrm{GL}_n(F)\backslash \mathrm{GL}_n(E)$ where $E/F$ is a quadratic extension of local fields of characteristic zero by making use of a local functional equation for Asai $γ$-factors. We also give two applications of this Plancherel formula: first to the global Ichino-Ikeda conjecture for unitary groups by completing a comparison between local relative characters that was left open by W. Zhang and secondly to the Hiraga-Ichino-Ikeda conjecture on formal degrees in the case of unitary groups.
There are several global functionals on irreducible automorphic representations which are Eulerian, that is: pure tensors of local functionals, when the representation is written as an Euler product $π= \otimes'_v π_v$ of local representations. The precise factorization of such functionals is of interest to number theorists and is -- naturally -- very often related to special values of $L$-functions. The purpose of this paper is to develop in full generality the Plancherel formula for the Weil or oscillator representation, considered as a unitary representation of a reductive dual pair, and to…
We calculate the Plancherel formula for complex semisimple quantum groups, that is, Drinfeld doubles of $ q $-deformations of compact semisimple Lie groups. As a consequence we obtain a concrete description of their associated reduced group $ C^* $-algebras. The main ingredients in our proof are the Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand complex and the Hopf trace formula.
This paper contains two results concerning the spectral decomposition, in a broad sense, of the space of nondegenerate Hermitian matrices over a local field of characteristic zero. The first is an explicit Plancherel decomposition of the associated $L^2$ space thus confirming a conjecture of Sakellaridis-Venkatesh in this particular case. The second is a formula for the multiplicities of generic representations in the $p$-adic case that extends previous work of Feigon-Lapid-Offen. Both results are stated in terms of Arthur-Clozel's quadratic local base-change and the proofs are based on local …
We discuss two topics related to Fourier transforms on Lie groups and on homogeneous spaces: the operational calculus and the Gelfand--Gindikin problem (program) about separation of non-uniform spectra. Our purpose is to indicate some non-solved problems of non-commutative harmonic analysis that definitely are solvable. This is a sketch of my talks on VI School "Geometry and Physics", Bialowieza, Poland, June 2017.
We give the inversion formula and the Plancherel formula for the hypergeometric Fourier transform associated with a root system of type $BC$, when the multiplicity parameters are not necessarily nonnegative.
There are some new developments on Plancherel formula and growth of matrix coefficients for unitary representations of nilpotent Lie groups. These have several consequences for the geometry of weakly symmetric spaces and analysis on parabolic subgroups of real semisimple Lie groups, and to (infinite dimensional) locally nilpotent Lie groups. Many of these consequences are still under development. In this note I'll survey a few of these new aspects of representation theory for nilpotent Lie groups and parabolic subgroups.
Let $F$ be a local field and $n\ge 2$ an integer. We study the Radon transform as an operator $M : \mathcal C_+ \to \mathcal C_-$ from the space of smooth $K$-finite functions on $F^n \setminus \{0\}$ with bounded support to the space of smooth $K$-finite functions on $F^n \setminus \{0\}$ supported away from a neighborhood of $0$. These spaces naturally arise in the theory of automorphic forms. We prove that $M$ is an isomorphism and provide formulas for $M^{-1}$. In the real case, we show that when $K$-finiteness is dropped from the definitions, the analog of $M$ is not surjective.

This is a semi--expository update and rewrite of my 1974 AMS AMS Memoir describing Plancherel formulae and partial Dolbeault cohomology realizations for standard tempered representations for general real reductive Lie groups. Even after so many years, much of that Memoir is up to date, but of course there have been a number of refinements, advances and new developments, most of which have applied to smaller classes of real reductive Lie groups. Here we rewrite that AMS Memoir in in view of these advances and indicate the ties with some of the more recent (or at least less classical) approaches…
We examine the structure of the Levi component $MA$ in a minimal parabolic subgroup $P = MAN$ of a real reductive Lie group $G$ and work out the cases where $M$ is metabelian, equivalently where $\mathfrak{p}$ is solvable. When $G$ is a linear group we verify that $\mathfrak{p}$ is solvable if and only if $M$ is commutative. In the general case $M$ is abelian modulo the center $Z_G$, we indicate the exact structure of $M$ and $P$, and we work out the precise Plancherel Theorem and Fourier Inversion Formulae. This lays the groundwork for comparing tempered representations of $G$ with those indu…
