Within the theory of complex interpolation and theta-Hilbert spaces we extend classical results of Kwapien on absolutely (r,1)-summing operators on l_1 with values in l_p as well as their natural extensions for mixing operators invented by Maurey. Furthermore, we show that for 1<p<2 every operator T on l_1 with values in theta-type 2 spaces, theta=2/p', is Rademacher p-summing. This is another extension of Kwapien's results, and by an extrapolation procedure a natural supplement to a statement of Pisier.
We study the relationship between exact interpolation spaces for positive, linear operators, for order preserving, Lipschitz continuous operators, and for positive Gagliardo-Peetre operators, and exact partially $K$-monotone spaces in interpolation couples of compatible Banach lattices. By general Banach lattice theory we recover a characterisation of exact interpolation spaces for order preserving, Lipschitz continuous operators in the couple $(L^1,L^\infty )$ due to Bénilan and Crandall.
We prove that an interpolation pair of Banach lattices is uniquely determined by the collection of intermediate spaces with the property that these are interpolation spaces for positive operators. A correspondent result for exact interpolation is also presented.
We investigate the stability of compactness of bilinear operators acting on the product of interpolation of Banach spaces. We develop a general framework for such results and our method applies to abstract methods of interpolation in the senseof Aronszajn and Gagliardo. A key step is to show an one-sided bilinear interpolation theorem on compactness for bilinear operators on couples satisfying an approximation property. We show applications to general cases, including Peetre's method and the general real interpolation methods.
We study the interpolation and extrapolation properties of strictly singular operators between different $L_p$ spaces. To this end, the structure of strictly singular non-compact operators between $L_p-L_q$ spaces is analyzed. Among other things, we clarify the relation between strict singularity and the $L$-characteristic set of an operator. In particular, Krasnoselskii's interpolation theorem for compact operators is extended to the class of strictly singular operators.
The monograph contains the detailed exposition of the results obtained by the author during the last several years. In particular it contains an improvement of the well known Calderon - Ryff interpolation theorem and description of "verifying" operators of conditional mathematical expectations {if such an operator leaves an order ideal in $L^1% invariant, then the ideal is an interpolation space}.
We introduce an index of convergence for double sequences of real numbers. This index is used to describe the behaviour of some bivariate interpolation sequences at points of discontinuity of the first kind. We consider in particular the case of bivariate Lagrange and Shepard operators.
We prove an abstract theorem on keeping the compactness property of a linear operator after interpolation in Banach spaces. No analytical presentation of operators, spaces and interpolation functor is required. We use only some little-known properties of compact sets and various facts about bases and basic sequences (with detailed references to the monograph "Bases in Banach spaces", Vol. I-II by I.M. Singer). Therefore the results are applicable to arbitrary spaces and any interpolation functor, including the complex method. The "two-sided" compactness is also mentioned at the end of this pap…
In this paper, equivalence between interpolation properties of linear operators and monotonicity conditions are studied, for a pair $(X_0,X_1)$ of rearrangement invariant quasi Banach spaces, when the extreme spaces of the interpolation are $L^\infty$ and a pair $(A_0,A_1)$ under some assumptions. Weak and restricted weak intermediate spaces fall in our context. Applications to classical Lorentz and Lorentz-Orlicz spaces are given.
The algebraic structure of V.P. Potapov's Fundamental Matrix Inequality (FMI) is discussed and its interpolation meaning is analyzed. Functional model spaces are involved. A general Abstract Interpolation Problem is formulated which seems to cover all the classical and recent problems in the field and the solution set of this problem is described using the Arov--Grossman formula. The extension theory of isometric operators is the proper language for treating interpolation problems of this type.
Although the study of functional calculus has already established necessary and sufficient conditions for operators to be fractionalized, this paper aims to use our well-conceived notion of integer powers of operators to construct non-integer powers of operators. In doing so, we not only provide a more intuitive understanding of fractional theories, but also provide a framework for producing new fractional theories. Such interpolations allow one to approximate fractional powers by finite sums of integer powers of operators, and thus may find much use in numerical analysis of fractional PDEs an…
We prove novel results on interpolation of Fredholm operators including an abstract factorization theorem. The main result of this paper provides sufficient conditions on the parameters $θ\in (0,1)$ and $q\in \lbrack 1,\infty ]$ under which an operator $A$ is a Fredholm operator from the real interpolation space $(X_{0},X_{1})_{θ,q}$ to $(Y_{0},Y_{1})_{θ,q} $ for a given operator $A\colon (X_{0},X_{1})\rightarrow (Y_{0},Y_{1})$ between compatible pairs of Banach spaces such that its restrictions to the endpoint spaces are Fredholm operators. These conditions are expressed in terms of the corre…
Grothendieck's theorem asserts that every continuous linear operator from $\ell_1$ to $\ell_2$ is absolutely $(1,1)$-summing. This kind of result is commonly called coincidence result. In this paper we investigate coincidence results in the multilinear setting, showing how the cotype of the spaces involved affect such results. The special role played by $\ell_1$ spaces is also investigated with relation to interpolation of tensor products. In particular, an open problem on the interpolation of $m$ injective tensor products is solved.
In a case study on asymptotics of spectral quantities of Schrödinger operators we show how the Riesz-Thorin theorem on the interpolation of linear operators can be extended to nonlinear maps.
We study certain interpolation and extension properties of the space of regular operators between two Banach lattices. Let $R_p$ be the space of all the regular (or equivalently order bounded) operators on $L_p$ equipped with the regular norm. We prove the isometric identity $R_p = (R_\infty,R_1)^θ$ if $θ= 1/p$, which shows that the spaces $(R_p)$ form an interpolation scale relative to Calderón's interpolation method. We also prove that if $S\subset L_p$ is a subspace, every regular operator $u : S \to L_p$ admits a regular extension $\tilde u : L_p \to L_p$ with the same regular norm. This e…
The behavior of bilinear operators acting on interpolation of Banach spaces for the $ρ$ method in relation to the compactness is analyzed. Similar results of Lions-Peetre, Hayakawa and Person's compactness theorems are obtained for the bilinear case and the $ρ$ method.
The theory of Nevanlinna-Pick and Carathéodory-Fejér interpolation for matrix- and operator-valued Schur class functions on the unit disk is now well established. Recent work has produced extensions of the theory to a variety of multivariable settings, including the ball and the polydisk (both commutative and noncommutative versions), as well as a time-varying analogue. Largely independent of this is the recent Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation theorem by P.S. Muhly and B. Solel for an abstract Hardy algebra set in the context of a Fock space built from a $W^*$-correspondence E over a $W^{*}$-alge…
In the first part of this work, we study the absolutely continuous operators which are defined on fuction spaces with wide sense. In the second part, we show some results concerning the absoltely continuous operators when the function spaces (with wide sense) are interpolation spaces.
If $f\in \{f\in L^p(\mathbb{R}): f(x)=\int_{-π}^πe^{ixξ}dβ(ξ), β\in B.V.([-π,π]) \}$, then $f$ is determined by its samples on the integers by taking an appropriate limit. Specifically, $\| f - L_{ϕ_α}f \|_{L^p(\mathbb{R})}\to 0$ as $α\to\infty$ provided that $\{ϕ_α: α\in A\}$ is what we call a spline-like family of cardinal interpolators.
Following ideas from the Abstract Interpolation Problem of Katsnelson et al. (Operators in spaces of functions and problems in function theory, vol 146, pp 83-69, Naukova Dumka, Keiv, 1987) for Schur class functions, we study a general metric constrained interpolation problem for functions from a vector-valued de Branges-Rovnyak space $\mathcal{H}(K_S)$ associated with an operator-valued Schur class function $S$. A description of all solutions is obtained in terms of functions from an associated de Branges-Rovnyak space satisfying only a bound on the de Branges-Rovnyak-space norm. Attention is…
This paper is devoted to the interpolation principle between spaces of weak type. We characterise interpolation spaces between two Marcinkiewicz spaces in terms of Hardy type operators involving suprema. We study general properties of such operators and their behavior on Lorentz gamma spaces. A particular emphasis is placed on elementary and comprehensive proofs.
Let $ X=(X_0,X_1)$ and $ Y=(Y_0,Y_1)$ be Banach couples and suppose $T: X\to Y$ is a linear operator such that $T:X_0\to Y_0$ is compact. We consider the question whether the operator $T:[X_0,X_1]_θ\to [Y_0,Y_1]_θ$ is compact and show a positive answer under a variety of conditions. For example it suffices that $X_0$ be a UMD-space or that $X_0$ is reflexive and there is a Banach space so that $X_0=[W,X_1]_α$ for some $0<α<1.$
Let (A_0,A_1) and (B_0,B_1) be Banach couples such that A_0 is contained in A_1 and (B_0,B_1) satisfies Arne Persson's approximation condition (H). Let T:A_1 --> B_1 be a possibly nonlinear Lipschitz mapping which also maps A_0 into B_0 and satisfies the following quantitative compactnesss condition: Ta \in ||a||_{A_0} K for each a \in A_0, where K is a fixed compact subset of B_0. We show that T maps the real interpolation space (A_0,A_1)_{θ,p} compactly into its counterpart (B_0,B_1)_{θ,p} for each θ\in (0,1) and p \in [1,\infty].
This is the fourth of a series of papers surveying some small part of the remarkable work of our friend and colleague Nigel Kalton. We have written it as part of a tribute to his memory. It contains almost no new results. This time we discuss Nigel's partial solutions (obtained jointly with one of us) of the problem of whether the complex method of interpolation preserves the compactness of operators. This problem is now 51 years old and still lacks a complete solution. We also survey some other partial solutions of this problem, obtained before and after the above mentioned joint work. We are…
The main results presented in this paper provide a complete and explicit description of all solutions to the left tangential operator Nevanlinna- Pick interpolation problem assuming the associated Pick operator is strictly positive. The complexity of the solutions is similar to that found in descriptions of the sub-optimal Nehari problem and variation on the Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation problem in the Wiener class that have been obtained through the band method. The main techniques used to derive the formulas are based on the theory of co-isometric realizations, and use the Douglas factorizat…
A general interpolation problem with operator argument is studied for functions f from the de Branges-Rovnyak space H(s) associated with an analytic function s mapping the open unit disk D into the closed unit disk. The interpolation condition is taken in the Rosenblum-Rovnyak form f(A)c = b (with a suitable interpretation of f(A)c) for given Hilbert space operator A and two vectors b; c from the same space.
We prove a complex formulation of the real interpolation method, showing that the real and complex interpolation methods are not inherently real or complex. Using this complex formulation, we prove Stein interpolation for the real interpolation method. We apply this theorem to interpolate weighted $L^p$-spaces and the sectoriality of closed operators with the real interpolation method.
We investigate the properties of a class of weighted vector-valued $L_p$-spaces and the corresponding (an)isotropic Sobolev-Slobodetskii spaces. These spaces arise naturally in the context of maximal $L_p$-regularity for parabolic initial-boundary value problems. Our main tools are operators with a bounded $\calH^\infty$-calculus, interpolation theory, and operator sums.
We study the complex interpolation and derivation process induced by a family of Orlicz sequence spaces. We present a concrete example of interpolation family of three spaces inducing a centralizer that cannot be obtained from complex interpolation of two spaces.
We study real interpolation, but instead of interpolating between Banach spaces, we interpolate between general functions taking values in $[0,\infty].$ We show the equivalence of the mean method and the $K$-method and apply the general theory to interpolation between the norm on a Banach space and the set norm associated with an m-accretive operator on such a space.
This paper can be considered as the sequel of [6], where the authors have proposed an abstract construction of Hardy spaces H^1. They shew an interpolation result for these Hardy spaces with the Lebesgue spaces. Here we describe a more precise result using the real interpolation theory and we clarify the use of Hardy spaces. Then with the help of the bilinear interpolation theory, we then give applications to study bilinear operators on Lebesgue spaces. These ideas permit us to study singular operators with singularities similar to those of bilinear Calderon-Zygmund operators in a far more abs…
We show that for integral operators of general form the norm bounds in Lorentz spaces imply certain norm bounds for the maximal function. As a consequence, the a.e. convergence for the integral operators on the Lorentz spaces follows from the appropriate norm estimates.
We study complex interpolation of variable Triebel-Lizorkin spaces, especially we present the complex interpolation of $F_{p(\cdot),q}^{α}$ and $F_{p(\cdot ),p(\cdot )}^{α(\cdot )}$ spaces. Also, some limiting cases are given.
We construct a class of super-reflexive complementably minimal spaces, and study uniformly convex distortions of the norm on Hilbert space by using methods of complex interpolation.
We prove a Boyd-type interpolation result for noncommutative maximal operators of restricted weak type. Our result positively answers an open question posed recently by Bekjan, Chen and Osekowski. As a special case, we find a restricted weak type version of the noncommutative Marcinkiewicz interpolation theorem, due to Junge and Xu, with interpolation constant of optimal order.
We present sharp interpolation theorems, including all limiting cases, for a class of quasilinear operators of joint weak type acting between Lorentz-Karamata spaces over $σ$-finite measure. This class contains many of the important integral operators. The optimality in the scale of Lorentz-Karamata spaces is also discussed. The proofs of our results rely on a characterization of Hardy-type inequalities restricted to monotone functions and with power-slowly varying weights. Some of the limiting cases of these inequalities have not been considered in the literature so far.
The Carathéodory problem in the $N$-variable non-commutative Herglotz--Agler class and the Carathéodory--Fejér problem in the $N$-variable non-commutative Schur--Agler class are posed. It is shown that the Carathéodory (resp., Carathéodory--Fejér) problem has a solution if and only if the non-commutative polynomial with given operator coefficients (the data of the problem indexed by an admissible set $Λ$) takes operator values with positive semidefinite real part (resp., contractive operator values) on $N$-tuples of $Λ$-jointly nilpotent contractive $n\times n$ matrices, for all $n\in\mathbb{N…
We give the description of the first and second complex interpolation of vanishing Morrey spaces, introduced in \cite{AS, CF}. In addition, we show that the diamond subspace (see \cite{HNS}) and one of the function spaces in \cite{AS} are the same. We also give several examples for showing that each of the complex interpolation of these spaces is different.
We prove a complex interpolation formula for the injective tensor product of vector-valued Banach function spaces satisfying certain geometric assumptions. This result unifies results of Kouba, and moreover, our approach offers an alternate proof of Kouba's interpolation formula for scalar-valued Banach function spaces.
Multilinear interpolation is a powerful tool used in obtaining strong type boundedness for a variety of operators assuming only a finite set of restricted weak-type estimates. A typical situation occurs when one knows that a multilinear operator satisfies a weak $L^q$ estimate for a single index $q$ (which may be less than one) and that all the adjoints of the multilinear operator are of similar nature, and thus they also satisfy the same weak $L^q$ estimate. Under this assumption, in this expository note we give a general multilinear interpolation theorem which allows one to obtain strong typ…
This paper continues the study of interpolation operators on scattered data. We introduce the Poisson interpolation operator and prove various properties. The main result concerns functions in the Paley-Wiener space $PW_{B_β}$, and shows that one may recover these functions from their samples on a complete interpolating sequence for $[-δ,δ]^2$ by using the Poisson interpolation operator, provided that $0<β< (3-\sqrt{8})δ$.
Let $1\le p<q\le\infty$ and let $T$ be a subadditive operator acting on $L^p$ and $L^q$. We prove that $T$ is bounded on the Orlicz space $L^ϕ$, where $ϕ^{-1}(u)=u^{1/p}ρ(u^{1/q-1/p})$ for some concave function $ρ$ and \[ \|T\|_{L^ϕ\to L^ϕ}\le C\max\{\|T\|_{L^p\to L^p},\|T\|_{L^q\to L^q}\}. \] The interpolation constant $C$, in general, is less than 4 and, in many cases, we can give much better estimates for $C$. In particular, if $p=1$ and $q=\infty$, then the classical Orlicz interpolation theorem holds for subadditive operators with the interpolation constant C=1. These results generalize o…
We introduce $B_w^u$-function spaces which unify Lebesgue, Morrey-Campanato, Lipschitz, $B^p$, CMO, local Morrey-type spaces, etc., and investigate the interpolation property of $B_w^u$-function spaces. We also apply it to the boundedness of linear and sublinear operators, for example, the Hardy-Littlewood maximal and fractional maximal operators, singular and fractional integral operators with rough kernel, the Littlewood-Paley operator, Marcinkiewicz operator, and so on.
The real and complex interpolation spaces for the classical Hardy spaces $H^1$ and $H^\infty$ were determined in 1983 by P.W. Jones. Due to the analytic constraints the associated Marcinkiewicz decomposition gives rise to a delicate approximation problem for the $L^ 1$ metric. Specifically for $ f \in H^p$ the size of $$ {\rm{inf}} \{ \| f - f_1 \| _1 \,:\, f_1 \in H^\infty ,\, \|f_1\|_\infty \le λ\}$$ needs to be determined for any $ λ>0 $. In the present paper we develop a new set of truncation formulae for obtaining the Marcinkiewicz decomposition of $(H^1, H^\infty) $. We revisit the real …
Let (A_0,A_1) and (B_0,B_1) be Banach couples with A_0 contained in A_1 and B_0 contained in B_1. Let T:A_1 --> B_1 be a possibly nonlinear operator which is a compact Lipschitz map of A_j into B_j for j=0,1. It is known that T maps the Lions-Peetre space (A_0,A_1)_θ,q boundedly into (B_0,B_1)_θ,q for each θin (0,1) and each q in [1,\infty), and that this map is also compact if if T is linear. We present examples which show that in general the map T:(A_0,A_1)_θ,q --> (B_0,B_1)_θ,q is not compact.
A wavelet is a special case of a vector in a separable Hilbert space that generates a basis under the action of a collection, or system, of unitary operators. We will describe the operator-interpolation approach to wavelet theory using the local commutant of a system. This is really an abstract application of the theory of operator algebras to wavelet theory. The concrete applications of this method include results obtained using specially constructed families of wavelet sets. A frame is a sequence of vectors in a Hilbert space which is a compression of a basis for a larger space. This is not …
Suppose that (A_0,A_1) and (B_0,B_1) are Banach couples, and that T is a linear operator which maps A_0 compactly into B_0 and A_1 boundedly (or even compactly) into B_1. Does this imply that T maps [A_0,A_1]_s to [B_0,B_1]_s compactly for 0<s<1 ? (Here, as usual, [A_0,A_1]_s denotes the complex interpolation space of Alberto Calderon.) This question has been open for 44 years. Affirmative answers are known for it in many special cases. We answer it affirmatively in the case where (A_0,A_1) is arbitrary and (B_0,B_1) is a couple of Banach lattices having absolutely continuous norms or the Fato…
We study complex interpolation of weighted Besov and Lizorkin-Triebel spaces. The used weights $w_0,w_1$ are local Muckenhoupt weights in the sense of Rychkov. As a first step we calculate the Calderón products of associated sequence spaces. Finally, as a corollary of these investigations, we obtain results on complex interpolation of radial subspaces of Besov and Lizorkin-Triebel spaces on $\R^d$.
Loewner partial order plays a very important role in metric topology and operator inequality on the open convex cone of positive invertible operators. In this paper we consider a family G of the ordered means for positive invertible operators equipped with homogeneity and properties related to the Loewner partial order such as the monotonicity, joint concavity, and arithmetic-G-harmonic weighted mean inequalities. Similar to the resolvent average, we construct a parameterized ordered mean and compare two types of the mixture of parameterized ordered means in terms of the Loewner order. We also…
We study complex interpolation scales obtained by vector valued amalgamation and the derivations they generate. We study their trivial and singular character and obtain examples showing that the hypotheses in the main theorems of [J.M.F. Castillo, V. Ferenczi and M. González, \emph{Singular exact sequences generated by complex interpolation}, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 369 (2017) 4671--4708] are not necessary.
Endpoint and Interpolation Estimates for Higher-Order Commutators of Rough Fractional Maximal Operators with Variable Kernels on Variable Exponent Morrey Spaces
