Multilinear interpolation is a powerful tool used in obtaining strong type boundedness for a variety of operators assuming only a finite set of restricted weak-type estimates. A typical situation occurs when one knows that a multilinear operator satisfies a weak $L^q$ estimate for a single index $q$ (which may be less than one) and that all the adjoints of the multilinear operator are of similar nature, and thus they also satisfy the same weak $L^q$ estimate. Under this assumption, in this expository note we give a general multilinear interpolation theorem which allows one to obtain strong type boundedness for the operator (and all of its adjoints) for a large set of exponents. The key point in the applications we discuss is that the interpolation theorem can handle the case $q \leq 1$. When $q > 1$, weak $L^q$ has a predual, and such strong type boundedness can be easily obtained by duality and multilinear interpolation.
Grothendieck's theorem asserts that every continuous linear operator from $\ell_1$ to $\ell_2$ is absolutely $(1,1)$-summing. This kind of result is commonly called coincidence result. In this paper we investigate coincidence results in the multilinear setting, showing how the cotype of the spaces involved affect such results. The special role played by $\ell_1$ spaces is also investigated with relation to interpolation of tensor products. In particular, an open problem on the interpolation of $m$ injective tensor products is solved.
We show that a recent interpolative new proof of the Bohnenblust--Hille inequality, when suitably handled, recovers its best known constants. This seems to be unexpectedly surprising since the known interpolative approaches only provide constants having exponential growth. This preprint is no longer an independent submission, it is now contained in the preprint arXiv 1310.2834.
We use an interpolative technique from \cite{abps} to introduce the notion of multiple $N$-separately summing operators. Our approach extends and unifies some recent results; for instance we recover the best known estimates of the multilinear Bohnenblust-Hille constants due to F. Bayart, D. Pellegrino and J. Seoane-Sepúlveda. More precisely, as a consequence of our main result, for $1\leq t<2$ and $m\in \mathbb{N}$ we prove that $$ \left(\sum_{i_{1},\dots,i_{m}=1}^{\infty}\left\vert U\left(e_{i_{1}},\dots,e_{i_{m}}\right) \right\vert^{\frac{2tm}{2+(m-1)t}}\right)^{\frac{2+(m-1)t}{2tm}} \leq \l…
Let (X j , d j , $μ$ j), j = 0, 1,. .. , m be metric measure spaces. Given 0 < p $κ$ $\le$ $\infty$ for $κ$ = 1,. .. , m and an analytic family of multilinear operators T z : L p 1 (X 1) x $\bullet$ $\bullet$ $\bullet$ L p m (X m) $\rightarrow$ L 1 loc (X 0), for z in the complex unit strip, we prove a theorem in the spirit of Stein's complex interpolation for analytic families. Analyticity and our admissibility condition are defined in the weak (integral) sense and relax the pointwise definitions given in [9]. Continuous functions with compact support are natural dense subspaces of Lebesgue s…
We analyze the interplay between maximal/minimal/adjoint ideals of multilinear operators (between sequence spaces) and their associated Köthe sequence spaces. We establish relationships with spaces of multipliers and apply these results to describe diagonal multilinear operators from Lorentz sequence spaces. We also define and study some properties of the ideal of $(E;p)$-summing multilinear mappings, a natural extension of the linear ideal of absolutely $(E;p)$-summing operators.
A multivariable version of the strong maximal function is introduced and a sharp distributional estimate for this operator in the spirit of the Jessen, Marcinkiewicz, and Zygmund theorem is obtained. Conditions that characterize the boundedness of this multivariable operator on products of weighted Lebesgue spaces equipped with multiple weights are obtained. Results for other multi(sub)linear maximal functions associated with bases of open sets are studied too. Certain bilinear interpolation results between distributional estimates, such as that obtained for the multivariable strong maximal fu…
In this note we prove the optimality of a family of known coincidence theorems for absolutely summing multilinear operators. We connect our results with the theory of multiple summing multilinear operators and prove the sharpness of similar results obtained via the complex interpolation method.
We initiate the study of a duality theory which applies to norm inequalities for pointwise weighted geometric means of positive operators. The theory finds its expression in terms of certain pointwise factorisation properties of function spaces which are naturally associated to the norm inequality under consideration. We relate our theory to the Maurey-Nikisin-Stein theory of factorisation of operators, and present a fully multilinear version of Maurey's fundamental theorem on factorisation of operators through $L^1$. The development of the theory involves convex optimisation and minimax theor…
We prove that the Lorentz sequence space $\ell_{\frac{2m}{m+1},1}$ is, in a~precise sense, optimal among all symmetric Banach sequence spaces satisfying a Bohnenblust-Hille type inequality for $m$-linear forms or $m$-homogeneous polynomials on $\mathbb{C}^n$. Motivated by this result we develop methods for dealing with subtle Bohnenblust-Hille type inequalities in the setting of Lorentz spaces. Based on an interpolation approach and the Blei-Fournier inequalities involving mixed type spaces, we prove multilinear and polynomial Bohnenblust-Hille type inequalities in Lorentz spaces with subpolyn…
Consider the Fourier restriction operator associated to a curve in $R^d$, $d\ge 3$. We prove for various classes of curves the endpoint restricted strong type estimate with respect to affine arclength measure on the curve. An essential ingredient is an interpolation result for multilinear operators with symmetries acting on sequences of vector-valued functions.
The paper is concerned with compact bilinear operators on asymmetric normed spaces. The study of multilinear operators on asymmetric normed spaces was initiated by Latreche and Dahia, Colloq. Math. (2020). We go further in this direction and prove a Schauder type theorem on the compactness of the adjoint of a compact bilinear operator and study the ideal properties of spaces of compact bilinear operators. These extend some results of Ramanujan and Schock, Linear and Multilinear Algebra (1985), and Ruch, ibid. (1989), on compact bilinear operators on Banach spaces. On the space of bilinear form…
In this paper we study Hardy spaces associated with non-negative self-adjoint operators and develop their vector-valued theory. The complex interpolation scales of vector-valued tent spaces and Hardy spaces are extended to the endpoint p=1. The holomorphic functional calculus of L is also shown to be bounded on the associated Hardy space H^1_L(X). These results, along with the atomic decomposition for the aforementioned space, rely on boundedness of certain integral operators on the tent space T^1(X).
Let $X$ be a space of homogeneous type and let $L$ be an injective, non-negative, self-adjoint operator on $L^2(X)$ such that the semigroup generated by $-L$ fulfills Davies-Gaffney estimates of arbitrary order. We prove that the operator $F(L)$, initially defined on $H^1_L(X)\cap L^2(X)$, acts as a bounded linear operator on the Hardy space $H^1_L(X)$ associated with $L$ whenever $F$ is a bounded, sufficiently smooth function. Based on this result, together with interpolation, we establish Hörmander type spectral multiplier theorems on Lebesgue spaces for non-negative, self-adjoint operators …
We revisit and extend known bounds on operator-valued functions of the type $$ T_1^{-z} S T_2^{-1+z}, \quad z \in \ol Σ= \{z\in\bbC\,|\, \Re(z) \in [0,1]\}, $$ under various hypotheses on the linear operators $S$ and $T_j$, $j=1,2$. We particularly single out the case of self-adjoint and sectorial operators $T_j$ in some separable complex Hilbert space $\cH_j$, $j=1,2$, and suppose that $S$ (resp., $S^*$) is a densely defined closed operator mapping $\dom(S) \subseteq \cH_1$ into $\cH_2$ (resp., $\dom(S^*) \subseteq \cH_2$ into $\cH_1$), relatively bounded with respect to $T_1$ (resp., $T_2^*$…
By using commutator methods, we show uniform resolvent estimates and obtain globally smooth operators for self-adjoint injective homogeneous operators $H$ on graded groups, including Rockland operators, sublaplacians and many others. Left or right invariance is not required. Typically the globally smooth operator has the form $T=V|H|^{1/2}$, where $V$ only depends on the homogeneous structure of the group through Sobolev spaces, the homogeneous dimension and the minimal and maximal dilation weights. For stratified groups improvements are obtained, by using a Hardy-type inequality. Some of the …
We consider a generalized Dirac operator on a compact stratified space with an iterated cone-edge metric. Assuming a spectral Witt condition, we prove its essential self-adjointness and identify its domain and the domain of its square with weighted edge Sobolev spaces. This sharpens previous results where the minimal domain is shown only to be a subset of an intersection of weighted edge Sobolev spaces. Our argument does not rely on microlocal techniques and is very explicit. The novelty of our approach is the use of an abstract functional analytic notion of interpolation scales. Our results h…
