In this paper we study the quenching problem in nonlinear heat equations with power nonlinearities. For nonlinearities of power p<0 and for an open set of slowly varying initial conditions we prove that the solutions will collapse in a finite time. We find the collapse profile and estimate the remainder.
Basing on the relations between a system of ODE and a system of parabolic equations, we establish some general theories in heat transfer about quenching, global existence and blowup phenomena, obtain the conditions(even watershed) on f(u,v), g(u,v), a(x) and b(x) which let the solution be global existence, quench or blow up, and estimate the bounds for blowup time and quenching time.
This study is concerned with a family of parabolic system with general singular nonlinearities, which is a generalization of MEMS system. To some extent, the classification of global existence and quenching according to parameters and initial data is given. Moreover, the convergence rate is also obtained. We point out that compared to single MEMS equation, new ideas and techniques are introduced in obtaining the convergence rate for system in our study. In fact, due to the lack of variational characterization for the first eigenvalue of the linearized elliptic system, the methods in obtaining …
We consider the formation of finite-time quenching singularities for solutions of semi-linear wave equations with negative power nonlinearities, as can model micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS). For radial initial data we obtain, formally, the existence of a sequence of quenching self-similar solutions. Also from formal asymptotic analysis, a solution to the PDE which is radially symmetric and increases strictly monotonically with distance from the origin quenches at the origin like an explicit spatially independent solution. The latter analysis and numerical experiments suggest a detailed…
We study the blow-up problem of one-dimensional nonlinear heat equations. Our result shows that for a certain class of initial conditions, the solutions blow up in finite time and we characterize the asymptotic dynamics of these solutions. The approach is analogous to one used in bifurcation theory and our techniques can be regarded as a time-dependent version of the Lyapunov-Schmidt decomposition.
In this note we show a comparison principle for nonlinear heat Rockland operators on graded groups. We give a simple proof for it using purely algebraic relations. As an application of the established comparison principle we prove the global in $t$-boundedness of solutions for a class of nonlinear equations for the heat $p$-sub-Laplacian on stratified groups.
In this paper we present a comparison principle for higher order nonlinear hypoelliptic heat operators on graded Lie groups. Moreover, using the comparison principle we obtain blow-up type results and global in $t$-boundedness of solutions of nonlinear equations for the heat $p$-sub-Laplacian on stratified Lie groups. In particular, this paper generalises and extends previous results obtained by the first author and Suragan in [RS18].
New exact solutions for the heat equation with a polynomial non-linearity and for the Fisher equation are found. An extended class of non-linear heat equations admitting solitary wave solutions is found. The generalization of the Fisher equation is proposed whose solutions propagate with arbitrary ad hoc fixed velocity.
Local well-posedness for the nonlinear heat and Schrödinger equations with nonlinear Wentzell boundary conditions on time-dependent compact Riemannian manifolds
We establish the asymptotics of blowup for nonlinear heat equations with superlinear power nonlinearities in arbitrary dimensions and we estimate the remainders.
We first study the so-called Heat equation with two families of elliptic operators whichare fully nonlinear, and depend on some eigenvalues of the Hessian matrix. The equationwith operators including the "large" eigenvalues has strong similarities with a Heatequation in lower dimension whereas, surprisingly, for operators including "small" eigenvalues it shares some properties with some transport equations. In particular, forthese operators, the Heat equation (which is nonlinear) not only does not have theproperty that "disturbances propagate with infinite speed" but may lead to quenchingin fi…
We study the asymptotic behavior of blow-up solutions of the heat equation with nonlinear boundary conditions. In particular, we classify the asymptotic behavior of blow-up solutions and investigate the spacial singularity of their blow-up profiles.
We consider the Cauchy problem for heat equation with fractional Laplacian and exponential nonlinearity. We establish local well-posedness result in Orlicz spaces. We derive the existence of global solutions for small initial data. We obtain decay estimates for large time in Lebesgue spaces.
We obtain necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for the solvability of the heat equation in a half-space of ${\bf R}^N$ with a nonlinear boundary condition. Furthermore, we study the relationship between the life span of the solution and the behavior of the initial function.
This note is devoted to a simple proof of blowup of solutions for a nonlinear heat equation. The criterion for a blowup is expressed in terms of a Morrey space norm and is in a sense complementary to conditions guaranteeing the global in time existence of solutions. The method goes back to H. Fujita and extends to other nonlinear parabolic equations.
We study the existence of global-in-time solutions for a nonlinear heat equation with nonlocal diffusion, power nonlinearity and suitably small data (either compared pointwisely to the singular solution or in the norm of a critical Morrey space). Then, asymptotics of subcritical solutions is determined. These results are compared with conditions on the initial data leading to a finite time blowup.
Blowup analysis for solutions of a general evolution equation with nonlocal diffusion and localized source is performed. By comparison with recent results on global-in-time solutions, a dichotomy result is obtained.
We consider the identification of nonlinear heat conduction laws in stationary and instationary heat transfer problems. Only a single additional measurement of the temperature on a curve on the boundary is required to determine the unknown parameter function on the range of observed temperatures. We first present a new proof of Cannon's uniqueness result for the stationary case, then derive a corresponding stability estimate, and finally extend our argument to instationary problems.
We study the quenching behavior for a semilinear heat equation arising in models of micro-electro mechanical systems (MEMS). The problem involves a source term with a spatially dependent potential, given by the dielectric permittivity profile, and quenching corresponds to a touchdown phenomenon. It is well known that quenching does occur. We prove that {\bf touchdown cannot occur at zero points of the permittivity profile.} In particular, we remove the assumption of compactness of the touchdown set, made in all previous work on the subject {and whose validity is unknown in most typical cases.}…
We establish the local existence and the uniqueness of solutions of the heat equation with a nonlinear boundary condition for the initial data in uniformly local $L^r$ spaces. Furthermore, we study the sharp lower estimates of the blow-up time of the solutions with the initial data $λψ$ as $λ\to 0$ or $λ\to\infty$ and the lower blow-up estimates of the solutions.
In this paper we prove local well-posedness in Orlicz spaces for the biharmonic heat equation $\partial_{t} u+ Δ^2 u=f(u),\;t>0,\;x\in\R^N,$ with $f(u)\sim \mbox{e}^{u^2}$ for large $u.$ Under smallness condition on the initial data and for exponential nonlinearity $f$ such that $f(u)\sim u^m$ as $u\to 0,$ $m$ integer and $N(m-1)/4\geq 2$, we show that the solution is global. Moreover, we obtain a decay estimates for large time for the nonlinear biharmonic heat equation as well as for the nonlinear heat equation. Our results extend to the nonlinear polyharmonic heat equation.
We consider semilinear parabolic equations with nonlinear boundary conditions. We give conditions which guarantee global existence of solutions as well as blow-up in finite time of all solutions with nontrivial initial data. The results depend on the behavior of variable coefficients as $t \to \infty.$
This paper is concerned with finite blow-up solutions of the heat equation with nonlinear boundary conditions. It is known that a rate of blow-up solutions is the same as the self-similar rate for a Sobolev subcritical case. A goal of this paper is to construct a blow-up solution whose blow-up rate is different from the self-similar rate for a Sobolev supercritical case.
An analytic solution to a stationary heat conduction problem in 2D unbounded doubly periodic composite materials with temperature dependent conductivities of their components is given. Corresponding nonlinear boundary value problem is reduced a Laplace equation with nonlinear transmission conditions. For special relationships between the conductivity coefficients of the matrix and inclusions, the problem is transformed to fully linear boundary value problem for doubly periodic analytic functions. This allows to reconstruct the solution of the originally nonlinear composite and to find its effe…
We consider the nonlinear heat equation with a nonlinear gradient term: $\partial_t u =Δu+μ|\nabla u|^q+|u|^{p-1}u,\; μ>0,\; q=2p/(p+1),\; p>3,\; t\in (0,T),\; x\in \R^N.$ We construct a solution which blows up in finite time $T>0.$ We also give a sharp description of its blow-up profile and show that it is stable with respect to perturbations in initial data. The proof relies on the reduction of the problem to a finite dimensional one, and uses the index theory to conclude. The blow-up profile does not scale as $(T-t)^{1/2}|\log(T-t)|^{1/2},$ like in the standard nonlinear heat equation, i.e.…
We consider a semilinear parabolic equation with flux at the boundary governed by a nonlinear memory. We give some conditions for this problem which guarantee global existence of solutions as well as blow up in finite time of all nontrivial solutions. The results depend on the behavior of variable coefficients as $t \to \infty.$
In this paper we consider a semilinear parabolic equation with nonlinear and nonlocal boundary condition and nonnegative initial datum. We prove some global existence results. Criteria on this problem which determine whether the solutions blow up in finite time for large or for all nontrivial initial data are also given.
We consider a singular limit problem from the damped wave equation with a power type nonlinearity to the corresponding heat equation. We call our singular limit problem non-delay limit. Our proofs are based on the argument for non-relativistic limit from the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation by the second author, Nakanishi, and Ozawa (2002), Nakanishi (2002), and Masmoudi and Nakanishi (2002). We can obtain better results for the non-delay limit problem than that for the non-relativistic limit problem due to the dissipation property. More precisely, we get t…
The "nonlinear complex heat equation" $A_t=i|A|^2A+A_{xx}$ was introduced by P. Coullet and L. Kramer as a model equation exhibiting travelling fronts induced by non-variational effects, called "retracting fronts". In this paper we study the existence of such fronts. They go by one-parameter families, bounded at one end by the slowest and "steepest" front among the family, a situation presenting striking analogies with front propagation into unstable states.
In this investigation, symmetry properties of the nonlinear heat conductivity equations of general form $u_t = [E(x, u)u_x]_x + H(x, u)$ are studied. The point symmetry analysis of these equations is considered as well as an equivalence classification which admits an extension by one dimension of the principal Lie algebra of them. The invariant solutions of equivalence transformations and classification of the nonlinear heat conductivity equations among with additional operators are also given.
This paper is devoted to the study of a nonlinear heat equation associated with Dirichlet-Robin conditions. At first, we use the Faedo -- Galerkin and the compactness method to prove existence and uniqueness results. Next, we consider the properties of solutions. We obtain that if the initial condition is bounded then so is the solution and we also get asymptotic behavior of solutions as. Finally, we give numerical results
We investigate the $p-$Laplace heat equation $u_t-Δ_p u=ζ(t)f(u)$ on a bounded smooth domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^N$. Using differential inequalities arguments, we prove blow-up results under suitable conditions on $ζ, f$, and the initial data $u_0$. We also give an upper bound for the blow-up time in each case.
This paper is concerned with the existence and uniqueness of the solution to a doubly nonlinear parabolic problem which arises directly from a circuit model of microwave heating. Beyond the relevance from a physical point of view, the problem is very interesting also in a mathematical approach: in fact, it consists of a nonlinear partial differential equation with a further nonlinearity in the boundary condition. Actually, we are going to prove a general result: the two nonlinearities are allowed to be maximal monotone operators and then an existence result will be shown for the resulting prob…
We consider the Cauchy problem for semi-linear heat equations with exponential nonlinearity. The main purpose of this paper is to prove the existence of solutions lying on the borderline between global existence and blow-up infinite time. The existence has been shown for semi-linear heat equations with power type nonlinearity. We explain the main strategy to prove the existence. By using the definition of exponential function, we approximate the solution to exponential type equation by that of power type equation. Then we can use directly the knowledge for power type equation.
A preliminary group classification of the class 2D nonlinear heat equations $u_t=f(x,y,u,u_x,u_y)(u_{xx}+u_{yy})$, where $f$ is arbitrary smooth function of the variables $x,y,u,u_x$ and $u_y$ using Lie method, is given. The paper is one of the few applications of an algebraic approach to the problem of group classification: the method of preliminary group classification.
