We obtain deformations of a crossed product of a polynomial algebra with a group, under some conditions, from universal deformation formulas. We show that the resulting deformations are nontrivial by a comparison with Hochschild cohomology. The universal deformation formulas arise from actions of Hopf algebras generated by automorphisms and skew derivations, and are universal in the sense that they apply to deform all algebras with such Hopf algebra actions.
As originally defined by Ashraf and Mozumder, multiplicative (generalized)-skew derivations must satisfy two identities. In this short note we show that, as a consequence of the simultaneous satisfaction of both identities, a multiplicative (generalized)-skew derivation of a prime ring is either a multiplicative (generalized) derivation (i.e., not skew), or a generalized skew derivation (i.e., additive). Therefore only one of the identities should be taken in the definition of multiplicative (generalized)-skew derivations in order to get a new class of derivations in prime rings.
For a free partial action of a group in a set we realize the associated partial skew group ring as an algebra of functions with finite support over an equivalence relation and we use this result to characterize the ideals in the partial skew group ring. This generalizes, to the purely algebraic setting, the known characterization of partial C*-crossed products as groupoid C*-algebras. For completeness we include a new proof of the C* result for free partial actions.
A wide class of skew derivations on degree-one generalized Weyl algebras $R(a,φ)$ over a ring $R$ is constructed. All these derivations are twisted by a degree-counting extensions of automorphisms of $R$. It is determined which of the constructed derivations are $Q$-skew derivations. The compatibility of these skew derivations with the natural ${\mathbb Z}$-grading of $R(a,φ)$ is studied. Additional classes of skew derivations are constructed for generalized Weyl algebras given by an automorphism $φ$ of a finite order. Conditions that the central element $a$ that forms part of the structure of…
In this paper we work with unital twisted partial actions. We investigate ring theoretic properties of partial crossed products as artinianity, noetherianity, perfect property, semilocalproperty, semiprimary property and we also study the Krull dimension. Moreover, we consider triangular matrix representation of partial skew group rings, weak and global dimensions of partial crossed products Also we study when the partial crossed products are Frobenius and symmetric algebras.
For a ring $R$ with an automorphism $σ$, an $n$-additive mapping $Δ:R\times R\times... \times R \rightarrow R$ is called a skew $n$-derivation with respect to $σ$ if it is always a $σ$-derivation of $R$ for each argument. Namely, it is always a $σ$-derivation of $R$ for the argument being left once $n-1$ arguments are fixed by $n-1$ elements in $R$. In this short note, starting from Brešar Theorems, we prove that a skew $n$-derivation ($n\geq 3$) on a semiprime ring $R$ must map into the center of $R$.
In the present paper we prove that every 2-local inner derivation on the Lie ring of skew-symmetric matrices over a commutative ring is an inner derivation. We also apply our technique to various Lie algebras of infinite dimensional skew-adjoint matrix-valued maps on a set and prove that every 2-local spatial derivation on such algebras is a spatial derivation.
Given a complete, positively filtered ring $(R,f)$ and a compatible skew derivation $(σ,δ)$, we may construct its skew power series ring $R[[x;σ,δ]]$. Due to topological obstructions, even if $δ$ is an \emph{inner} $σ$-derivation, in general we cannot ``untwist" it, i.e. reparametrise to find a filtered isomorphism $R[[x; σ, δ]] \cong R[[x'; σ]]$, as might be expected from the theory of skew polynomial rings; similarly when $σ$ is an inner automorphism. We find general conditions under which it is possible to untwist the multiplication data, and use this to analyse the structure of $R[[x;σ,δ]]…
Surprisingly, skew derivations rather than ordinary derivations are more basic (important) object in study of the Grassmann algebras. Let $Ł_n = K\lfloor x_1, ..., x_n\rfloor$ be the Grassmann algebra over a commutative ring $K$ with ${1/2}\in K$, and $\d$ be a skew $K$-derivation of $Ł_n$. It is proved that $\d$ is a unique sum $\d = \d^{ev} +\d^{od}$ of an even and odd skew derivation. Explicit formulae are given for $\d^{ev}$ and $\d^{od}$ via the elements $\d (x_1), ..., \d (x_n)$. It is proved that the set of all even skew derivations of $Ł_n$ coincides with the set of all the inner skew …
Let $D$ be a division ring of fractions of a crossed product $F[G,η,α]$ where $F$ is a skew field and $G$ is a group with Conradian left-order $\leq$. For $D$ we introduce the notion of freeness with respect to $\leq$ and show that $D$ is free in this sense if and only if $D$ can canonically be embedded into the endomorphism ring of the right $F$-vector space $F((G))$ of all formal power series in $G$ over $F$ with respect to $\leq$. From this we obtain that all division rings of fractions of $F[G,η,α]$ which are free with respect to at least one Conradian left-order of $G$ are isomorphic and …
We extend the classical construction by Noether of crossed product algebras, defined by finite Galois field extensions, to cover the case of separable (but not necessarily finite or normal) field extensions. This leads us naturally to consider non-unital groupoid graded rings of a particular type that we call object unital. We determine when such rings are strongly graded, crossed products, skew groupoid rings and twisted groupoid rings. We also obtain necessary and sufficient criteria for when object unital groupoid graded rings are separable over their principal component, thereby generalizi…
Two are the objectives of the present paper. First we study properties of a differentially simple commutative ring R with respect to a set D of derivations of R. Among the others we investigate the relation between the D-simplicity of R and that of the local ring RP with respect to a prime ideal P of R and we prove a criterion about the D- simplicity of R in case where R is a 1-dimensional (Krull dimension) finitely generated algebra over a field of characteristic zero and D is a singleton set. The above criterion was quoted without proof in an earlier paper of the author. Second we construct …
In this work, free multivariate skew polynomial rings are considered, together with their quotients over ideals of skew polynomials that vanish at every point (which includes minimal multivariate skew polynomial rings). We provide a full classification of such multivariate skew polynomial rings (free or not) over finite fields. To that end, we first show that all ring morphisms from the field to the ring of square matrices are diagonalizable, and that the corresponding derivations are all inner derivations. Secondly, we show that all such multivariate skew polynomial rings over finite fields a…
In this paper we study the low dimensional cohomology groups of Hom-Lie algebras and their relation with derivations, abelian extensions and crossed modules. On one hand, we introduce the notion of $α$-abelian extensions and we obtain a five term exact sequence in cohomology. On the other hand, we introduce crossed modules of Hom-Lie algebras showing their equivalence with cat$^1$-Hom-Lie algebras, and we introduce $α$-crossed modules to have a better understanding of the third cohomology group.
In this paper, we consider a 3-Lie algebra with a derivation (called a 3-LieDer pair). We define cohomology for a 3-LieDer pair with coefficients in a representation. We use this cohomology to study deformations and abelian extensions of 3-LieDer pairs. We give the notion of a 3-Lie2Der pair, which can be viewed as the categorification of a 3-LieDer pair. We show that skeletal 3-Lie2Der pairs are classified by triples given by 3-LieDer pairs, representations and 3-cocycles. We define crossed modules of 3-LieDer pairs and show that there exists a one-to-one correspondence between strict 3-Lie2D…
The notion of crossed modules for Lie 2-algebras is introduced. We show that, associated to such a crossed module, there is a strict Lie 3-algebra structure on its mapping cone complex and a strict Lie 2-algebra structure on its derivations. Finally, we classify strong crossed modules by means of the third cohomology group of Lie 2-algebras.
We provide easily-verified necessary and sufficient conditions for a skew group ring, or more generally, a crossed product ring, to be an Azumaya algebra. We use our results to show that (suitable localisations of) skew group rings associated to the quantum Kleinian singularities introduced by Chan, Kirkman, Walton, and Zhang in [CKWZ16a] are Azumaya, and use this to show that these algebras are maximal orders. We also give a new proof of Auslander's Theorem for quantum Kleinian singularities.
Families of codes such as group codes, constacyclic and skew cyclic codes, some of which independently suggested in the literature, turn out to be special instances of the general family of crossed product codes. Hamming-metric is a main feature of ambient code spaces which is used to evaluate the efficiency of their various codes. This note aims at classifying the ambient spaces of crossed products up to Hamming-isometry. We establish a criterion for two crossed products of a group G over a base ring R to be isometric in terms of a certain G-automorphism action on the second cohomology of G w…
If $E$ is a directed graph and $K$ is a field, the Leavitt path algebra $L_K(E)$ of $E$ over $K$ is naturally graded by the group of integers $\mathbb Z.$ We formulate properties of the graph $E$ which are equivalent with $L_K(E)$ being a crossed product, a skew group ring, or a group ring with respect to this natural grading. We state this main result so that the algebra properties of $L_K(E)$ are also characterized in terms of the pre-ordered group properties of the Grothendieck $\mathbb Z$-group of $L_K(E)$. If $E$ has finitely many vertices, we characterize when $L_K(E)$ is strongly graded…
In the present paper we prove that every 2-local inner derivation on the Lie ring of skew-adjoint matrices over a commutative $*$-ring is an inner derivation. We also apply our technique to various Lie algebras of infinite-dimensional skew-adjoint matrix-valued maps on a set and prove that every 2-local spatial derivation on such algebras is a spatial derivation. We also show that every local spatial derivation on the above Lie algebras is a derivation.
We extend existing results on locally nilpotent differential polynomial rings to skew extensions of rings. We prove that if $\mathscr{G}=\{σ_t\}_{t\in T}$ is a locally finite family of automorphisms of an algebra $R$, $\mathscr{D}=\{δ_t\}_{t\in T}$ is a family of skew derivations of $R$ such that the prime radical $P$ of $R$ is strongly invariant under $\mathscr{D}$, then the ideal $P\langle T,\mathscr{G},\mathscr{D}\rangle^*$ of $R\langle T,\mathscr{G},\mathscr{D}\rangle$, generated by $P$, is locally nilpotent. We then apply this result to algebras with locally nilpotent derivations. We prov…
Twisted étale groupoid algebras have been studied recently in the algebraic setting by several authors in connection with an abstract theory of Cartan pairs of rings. In this paper, we show that extensions of ample groupoids correspond in a precise manner to extensions of Boolean inverse semigroups. In particular, discrete twists over ample groupoids correspond to certain abelian extensions of Boolean inverse semigroups and we show that they are classified by Lausch's second cohomology group of an inverse semigroup. The cohomology group structure corresponds to the Baer sum operation on twists…
In this article, we consider a twisted partial action $α$ of a group $G$ on a ring $R$ and it is associated partial crossed product $R*_α^wG$. We study necessary and sufficient conditions for the commutativity and simplicity of $R*_α^wG$. Let $R=C(X)$ the algebra of continuous functions of a topological space $X$ on the complex numbers and $C(X)*_αG$ the partial skew group ring, where $α$ is a partial action of a topological group $G$ on $C(X)$. We study some topological properties to obtain results on the algebra $C(X)$. Also, we study the simplicity of $C(X)*_αG$ using topological properties…
For k a field of arbitrary characteristic, and R a k-algebra, we show that the PI degree of an iterated skew polynomial ring R[x_1;τ_1,δ_1]...b[x_n;τ_n,δ_n] agrees with the PI degree of R[x_1;τ_1]...b[x_n;τ_n] when each (τ_i,δ_i) satisfies a q_i-skew relation for q_i \in k^{\times} and extends to a higher q_i-skew τ_i-derivation. We confirm the quantum Gel'fand-Kirillov conjecture for various quantized coordinate rings, and calculate their PI degrees. We extend these results to completely prime factor algebras.
Let a finite group G act on a differential graded algebra A. This article presents necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for the skew group algebra A*G to be Calabi-Yau. In particular, when A is the Ginzburg dg algebra of a quiver with an invariant potential, then A*G is Calabi-Yau and Morita equivalent to a Ginzburg dg algebra. Some applications of these results are derived to compare the generalised cluster categories of A and A*G when they are defined and to compare the higher Auslander-Reiten theories of A and A*G when A is a finite dimensional algebra.
In this thesis, we study the properties of a nonassociative algebra construction from skew polynomial rings. This construction was introduced by Petit in the 1960s but largely ignored until recently. In particular, the automorphism groups of these algebras are studied, paying particular attention to the case when the construction yields a finite semifield. The thesis is concluded by revisiting a result on associative solvable crossed product algebras by both Petit and Albert. We show a crossed product algebra is solvable if and only if it can be written as a chain of Petit algebras satisfying …
In this paper, we introduce the notions of crossed module of associative conformal algebras, 2-term strongly homotopy associative conformal algebras, and discuss the relationship between them and the 3-th Hochschild cohomology of associative conformal algebras. We classify the non-abelian extensions by introducing the non-abelian cohomology. We show that non-abelian extensions of an associative conformal algebra can be viewed as Maurer-Cartan elements of a suitable differential graded Lie algebra, and prove that the Deligne groupoid of this differential graded Lie algebra corresponds one to on…
Let $R$ be a ring satisfying a polynomial identity and let $D$ be a derivation of $R$. We consider the Jacobson radical of the skew polynomial ring $R[x;D]$ with coefficients in $R$ and with respect to $D$, and show that $J(R[x;D])\cap R$ is a nil $D$-ideal. This extends a result of Ferrero, Kishimoto, and Motose, who proved this in the case when $R$ is commutative.
This paper generalizes the concepts of 2-local derivations and biderivations (without the skewsymmetric condition) of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra from the adjoint module to any finite-dimensional module, and determines all 2-local derivations and biderivations of the 3-dimensional complex simple Lie algebra $\frak{sl}(2)$ on its any finite-dimensional simple module.
In this paper, our objects of interest are Hopf Galois extensions (e.g., Hopf algebras, Galois field extensions, strongly graded algebras, crossed products, principal bundles, etc.) and families of noncommutative rings (e.g., skew polynomial rings, PBW extensions and skew PBW extensions, etc.). We collect and systematize questions, problems, properties and recent advances in both theories by explicitly developing examples and doing calculations that are usually omitted in the literature. In particular, for Hopf Galois extensions we consider approaches from the point of view of quantum torsors …
Let $G$ be a group of order $k$. We consider the algebra $M_k(\mathbb{C})$ of $k$ by $k$ matrices over the complex numbers and view it as a crossed product with respect to $G$ by embedding $G$ in the symmetric group $S_k$ via the regular representation and embedding $S_k$ in $M_k(\mathbb{C})$ in the usual way. This induces a natural $G$-grading on $M_k(\mathbb{C})$ which we call a crossed-product grading. We study the graded $*$-identities for $M_k(\mathbb{C})$ equipped with such a crossed-product grading and the transpose involution. To each multilinear monomial in the free graded algebra wit…
Let $A$ be a Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebra with Nakayama automorphism $ξ$. We show that the Yoneda Ext-algebra of the skew polynomial algebra $A[z;ξ]$ is a trivial extension of a Frobenius algebra. Then we prove that $A[z;ξ]$ is Calabi-Yau; and hence each Koszul Artin Schelter regular algebra is a subalgebra of a Koszul Calabi-Yau algebra. A superpotential $\hat{w}$ is also constructed so that the Calabi-Yau algebra $A[z;ξ]$ is isomorphic to the derivation quotient of $\hat{w}$. The Calabi-Yau property of a skew polynomial algebra with coefficients in a PBW-deformation of a Koszul Arti…
Let $S$ be a unital associative ring and $S[t;σ,δ]$ be a skew polynomial ring, where $σ$ is an injective endomorphism of $S$ and $δ$ a left $σ$-derivation. For each $f\in S[t;σ,δ]$ of degree $m>1$ with a unit as leading coefficient, we construct a unital nonassociative algebra whose behaviour reflects the properties of $f$. The algebras obtained yield canonical examples of right division algebras when $f$ is irreducible. We investigate the structure of these algebras. The structure of their right nucleus depends on the choice of $f$. In the classical literature, this nucleus appears as the eig…
In this paper we extend and adapt several results on extensions of Lie algebras to topological Lie algebras over topological fields of characteristic zero. In particular we describe the set of equivalence classes of extensions of the Lie algebra by the Lie algebra a disjoint union of affine spaces with translation group H^2(\g,\z(\n))_{[S]}, where [S] denotes the equivalence class of the continuous outer action S \: \g \to \der \n. We also discuss topological crossed modules and explain how they are related to extensions of Lie algebras by showing that any continuous outer action gives rise to…
In this paper, we investigate the structure of skew power series rings of the form $S = R[[x;σ,δ]]$, where $R$ is a complete filtered ring and $(σ,δ)$ is a skew derivation respecting the filtration. Our main focus is on the case in which $σδ= δσ$, and we aim to use techniques in non-commutative valuation theory to address the long-standing open question: if $P$ is an invariant prime ideal of $R$, is $PS$ a prime ideal of $S$? When $R$ has characteristic $p$, our results reduce this to a finite-index problem. We also give preliminary results in the "Iwasawa algebra" case $δ= σ- \mathrm{id}_R$ i…
In this paper, we study the structure of 3-Lie algebras with involutive derivations. We prove that if $A$ is an $m$-dimensional 3-Lie algebra with an involutive derivation $D$, then there exists a compatible 3-pre-Lie algebra $(A, \{ , , , \}_D)$ such that $A$ is the sub-adjacent 3-Lie algebra, and there is a local cocycle $3$-Lie bialgebraic structure on the $2m$-dimensional semi-direct product 3-Lie algebra $A\ltimes_{ad^*} A^*$, which is associated to the adjoint representation $(A, ad)$. By means of involutive derivations, the skew-symmetric solution of the 3-Lie classical Yang-Baxter equa…
Let $S$ be a unital ring, $S[t;σ,δ]$ a skew polynomial ring where $σ$ is an injective endomorphism and $δ$ a left $σ$-derivation, and suppose $f\in S[t;σ,δ]$ has degree $m$ and an invertible leading coefficient. Using right division by $f$ to define the multiplication, we obtain unital nonassociative algebras $S_f$ on the set of skew polynomials in $S[t;σ,δ]$ of degree less than $m$. We study the structure of these algebras. When $S$ is a Galois ring and $f$ base irreducible, these algebras yield families of finite unital nonassociative rings $A$, whose set of (left or right) zero divisors has…
We study formal deformations of a crossed product $S(V)#_f G$, of a polynomial algebra with a group, induced from a universal deformation formula introduced by Witherspoon. These deformations arise from braided actions of Hopf algebras generated by automorphisms and skew derivations. We show that they are nontrivial in the characteristic free context, even if $G$ is infinite, by showing that their infinitesimals are not coboundaries. For this we construct a new complex which computes the Hochschild cohomology of $S(V)#_f G$.
For a given Jacobi-Jordan algebra $A$ and a vector space $V$ over a field $k$, a non-abelian cohomological type object ${\mathcal H}^{2}_{A} \, (V, \, A)$ is constructed: it classifies all Jacobi-Jordan algebras containing $A$ as a subalgebra of codimension equal to ${\rm dim}_k (V)$. Any such algebra is isomorphic to a so-called \emph{unified product} $A \, \natural \, V$. Furthermore, we introduce the bicrossed (semi-direct, crossed, or skew crossed) product $A \bowtie V$ associated to two Jacobi-Jordan algebras as a special case of the unified product. Several examples and applications are …
