Twisted étale groupoid algebras have been studied recently in the algebraic setting by several authors in connection with an abstract theory of Cartan pairs of rings. In this paper, we show that extensions of ample groupoids correspond in a precise manner to extensions of Boolean inverse semigroups. In particular, discrete twists over ample groupoids correspond to certain abelian extensions of Boolean inverse semigroups and we show that they are classified by Lausch's second cohomology group of an inverse semigroup. The cohomology group structure corresponds to the Baer sum operation on twists.
We also define a novel notion of inverse semigroup crossed product, generalizing skew inverse semigroup rings, and prove that twisted Steinberg algebras of Hausdorff ample groupoids are instances of inverse semigroup crossed products. The cocycle defining the crossed product is the same cocycle that classifies the twist in Lausch cohomology.

Let A#_{α, ω}H be a partial crossed product. In this paper, we first generalize the theorem about the existence of an enveloping action to twisted partial actions. Second, we construct a Morita context between the partial crossed product and the crossed product related to the enveloping action. Furthermore, we discuss equivalences of partial crossed products Finally, we investigate when A\subset A#_{α, ω}H becomes a separable extension.
Given an ample action of an inverse semigroup on a locally compact and Hausdorff topological space, we study the ideal structure of the crossed product algebra associated with it. By developing a theory of induced ideals, we manage to prove that every ideal in the crossed product algebra may be obtained as the intersection of ideals induced from isotropy group algebras. This can be interpreted as an algebraic version of the Effros-Hahn conjecture. Finally, as an application of our result, we study the ideal structure of a Steinberg algebra associated with an ample groupoid by interpreting it a…
Given an inverse semigroup $S$ endowed with a partial action on a topological space $X$, we construct a groupoid of germs $S\ltimes X$ in a manner similar to Exel's groupoid of germs, and similarly a partial action of $S$ on an algebra $A$ induces a crossed product $A\rtimes S$. We then prove, in the setting of partial actions, that if $X$ is locally compact Hausdorff and zero-dimensional, then the Steinberg algebra of the groupoid of germs $S\ltimes X$ is isomorphic to the crossed product $A_R(X)\rtimes S$, where $A_R(X)$ is the Steinberg algebra of $X$. We also prove that the converse holds,…
In this paper we study twisted algebras of multiplier Hopf ($^*$-)algebras which generalize all kinds of smash products such as generalized smash products, twisted smash products, diagonal crossed products, L-R-smash products, two-sided crossed products and two-sided smash products for the ordinary Hopf algebras appeared in [P-O].
We introduce a notion of amenable normal extension S of a unital ring R with a finite approximation system F, encompassing the amenable algebras over a field of Gromov and Elek, the twisted crossed product by an amenable group, and the tensor product with a field extension. It is shown that every Sylvester matrix rank function rk of R preserved by S has a canonical extension to a Sylvester matrix rank function rk_F for S. In the case of twisted crossed product by an amenable group, and the tensor product with a field extension, it is also shown that rk_F depends on rk continuously. When an ame…
In this paper we work with unital twisted partial actions. We investigate ring theoretic properties of partial crossed products as artinianity, noetherianity, perfect property, semilocalproperty, semiprimary property and we also study the Krull dimension. Moreover, we consider triangular matrix representation of partial skew group rings, weak and global dimensions of partial crossed products Also we study when the partial crossed products are Frobenius and symmetric algebras.
In this article we use semigroupoids to describe a notion of algebraic bundles, mostly motivated by Fell ($C^*$-algebraic) bundles, and the sectional algebras associated to them. As the main motivational example, Steinberg algebras may be regarded as the sectional algebras of trivial (direct product) bundles. Several theorems which relate geometric and algebraic constructions - via the construction of a sectional algebra - are widely generalized: Direct products bundles by semigroupoids correspond to tensor products of algebras; Semidirect products of bundles correspond to "naïve" crossed prod…
We examine a semigroup analogue of the Kumjian-Renault representation of C*-algebras with Cartan subalgebras on twisted groupoids. Specifically, we show how to represent semigroups with distinguished normal subsemigroups as `slice-sections' of groupoid bundles.
Let $H$ be a cocommutative weak Hopf algebra and let $(B, φ_{B})$ a weak left $H$-module algebra. In this paper, for a twisted convolution invertible morphism $σ:H\otimes H\rightarrow B$ we define its obstruction $θ_σ$ as a degree three Sweedler 3-cocycle with values in the center of $B$. We obtain that the class of this obstruction vanish in third Sweedler cohomology group $\mathcal{H}^3_{φ_{Z(B)}}(H, Z(B))$ if, and only if, there exists a twisted convolution invertible 2-cocycle $α:H\otimes H\rightarrow B$ such that $H\otimes B$ can be endowed with a weak crossed product structure with $α$ k…
If $A\otimes _{R, σ}V$ and $A\otimes _{P, ν}W$ are two Brzeziński crossed products and $Q:W\otimes V\rightarrow V\otimes W$ is a linear map satisfying certain properties, we construct a Brzeziński crossed product $A\otimes _{S, θ}(V\otimes W)$. This construction contains as a particular case the iterated twisted tensor product of algebras.
We extend the classical construction by Noether of crossed product algebras, defined by finite Galois field extensions, to cover the case of separable (but not necessarily finite or normal) field extensions. This leads us naturally to consider non-unital groupoid graded rings of a particular type that we call object unital. We determine when such rings are strongly graded, crossed products, skew groupoid rings and twisted groupoid rings. We also obtain necessary and sufficient criteria for when object unital groupoid graded rings are separable over their principal component, thereby generalizi…
In this paper, first we give the notion of a crossed homomorphism on a 3-Lie algebra with respect to an action on another 3-Lie algebra, and characterize it using a homomorphism from a Lie algebra to the semidirect product Lie algebra. We also establish the relationship between crossed homomorphisms and relative Rota-Baxter operators of weight 1 on 3-Lie algebras. Next we construct a cohomology theory for a crossed homomorphism on 3-Lie algebras and classify infinitesimal deformations of crossed homomorphisms using the second cohomology group. Finally, using the higher derived brackets, we con…
Given a non-necessarily commutative unital ring $R$ and a unital partial representation $Θ$ of a group $G$ into the Picard semigroup $\mathbf{PicS} (R)$ of the isomorphism classes of partially invertible $R$-bimodules, we construct an abelian group $\mathcal{C}(Θ/R) $ formed by the isomorphism classes of partial generalized crossed products related to $Θ$ and identify an appropriate second partial cohomology group of $G$ with a naturally defined subgroup $\mathcal{C}_0(Θ/R) $ of $\mathcal{C}(Θ/R).$ Then we use the obtained results to give an analogue of the Chase-Harrison-Rosenberg exact seque…
Families of codes such as group codes, constacyclic and skew cyclic codes, some of which independently suggested in the literature, turn out to be special instances of the general family of crossed product codes. Hamming-metric is a main feature of ambient code spaces which is used to evaluate the efficiency of their various codes. This note aims at classifying the ambient spaces of crossed products up to Hamming-isometry. We establish a criterion for two crossed products of a group G over a base ring R to be isometric in terms of a certain G-automorphism action on the second cohomology of G w…
The main purpose of this paper is to investigate epsilon-strongly graded rings that are partial crossed products. Let $G$ be a group, $A=\oplus_{g\in G}\,A_g$ an epsilon-strongly graded ring and ${\bf pic}{R}$ the Picard semigroup of $R:=A_1$. We prove that the isomorphism class $[A_g]$ is an element of ${\bf pic}{R}$, for all $g\in G$. Thus, the association $g\mapsto [A_g]$ determines a partial representation of $G$ on ${\bf pic}{R}$ which induces a partial action $γ$ of $G$ on the center $Z(R)$ of $R$. Sufficient conditions for $A$ to be an Azumaya $R^γ$-algebra are presented in the case tha…
