We extend the classical construction by Noether of crossed product algebras, defined by finite Galois field extensions, to cover the case of separable (but not necessarily finite or normal) field extensions. This leads us naturally to consider non-unital groupoid graded rings of a particular type that we call object unital. We determine when such rings are strongly graded, crossed products, skew groupoid rings and twisted groupoid rings. We also obtain necessary and sufficient criteria for when object unital groupoid graded rings are separable over their principal component, thereby generalizing previous results from the unital case to a non-unital situation.
We introduce the class of epsilon-strongly graded rings and show that it properly contains both the class of strongly graded rings and the class of unital partial crossed products. We determine precisely when an epsilon-strongly graded ring is separable over its principal component. Thereby, we simultaneously generalize a result for strongly group graded rings by Nastasescu, Van den Bergh and Van Oystaeyen, and a result for unital partial crossed products by Bagio, Lazzarin and Paques. We also show that the class of unital partial crossed products appear in the class of epsilon-strongly graded…
Given a non-necessarily commutative unital ring $R$ and a unital partial representation $Θ$ of a group $G$ into the Picard semigroup $\mathbf{PicS} (R)$ of the isomorphism classes of partially invertible $R$-bimodules, we construct an abelian group $\mathcal{C}(Θ/R) $ formed by the isomorphism classes of partial generalized crossed products related to $Θ$ and identify an appropriate second partial cohomology group of $G$ with a naturally defined subgroup $\mathcal{C}_0(Θ/R) $ of $\mathcal{C}(Θ/R).$ Then we use the obtained results to give an analogue of the Chase-Harrison-Rosenberg exact seque…
In this paper we work with unital twisted partial actions. We investigate ring theoretic properties of partial crossed products as artinianity, noetherianity, perfect property, semilocalproperty, semiprimary property and we also study the Krull dimension. Moreover, we consider triangular matrix representation of partial skew group rings, weak and global dimensions of partial crossed products Also we study when the partial crossed products are Frobenius and symmetric algebras.
We show that if a non-associative unital ring is graded by a hypercentral group, then the ring is simple if and only if it is graded simple and the center of the ring is a field. Thereby, we extend a result by Jespers to a non-associative setting. By applying this result to non-associative crossed products, we obtain non-associative analogues of results by Bell, Jordan and Voskoglou. We also apply our result to Cayley-Dickson doublings, thereby obtaining a new proof of a classical result by McCrimmon.
For a twisted partial action Θof a group G on an (associative non-necessarily unital) algebra A over a commutative unital ring k, the crossed product A X_ΘG is proved to be associative. Given a G-graded k-algebra B = \oplus_{g\in G}\B_g with the mild restriction of homogeneous non-degeneracy, a criteria is established for B to be isomorphic to the crossed product B_1 X_ΘG for some twisted partial action of G on B_1. The equality B_g\B_{g^{-1}}B_g = \B_g for all g\in G is one of the ingredients of the criteria, and if it holds and, moreover, B has enough local units, then it is shown that B is …
We introduce a notion of amenable normal extension S of a unital ring R with a finite approximation system F, encompassing the amenable algebras over a field of Gromov and Elek, the twisted crossed product by an amenable group, and the tensor product with a field extension. It is shown that every Sylvester matrix rank function rk of R preserved by S has a canonical extension to a Sylvester matrix rank function rk_F for S. In the case of twisted crossed product by an amenable group, and the tensor product with a field extension, it is also shown that rk_F depends on rk continuously. When an ame…
We show that if $R$ is a, not necessarily unital, ring graded by a semigroup $G$ equipped with an idempotent $e$ such that $G$ is cancellative at $e$, the non-zero elements of $eGe$ form a hypercentral group and $R_e$ has a non-zero idempotent $f$, then $R$ is simple if and only if it is graded simple and the center of the corner subring $f R_{eGe} f$ is a field. This is a generalization of a result of E. Jespers' on the simplicity of a unital ring graded by a hypercentral group. We apply our result to partial skew group rings and obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the simplicity o…
Let $G$ be a group with neutral element $e$ and let $S=\bigoplus_{g \in G}S_g$ be a $G$-graded ring. A necessary condition for $S$ to be noetherian is that the principal component $S_e$ is noetherian. The following partial converse is well-known: If $S$ is strongly-graded and $G$ is a polycyclic-by-finite group, then $S_e$ being noetherian implies that $S$ is noetherian. We will generalize the noetherianity result to the recently introduced class of epsilon-strongly graded rings. We will also provide results on the artinianity of epsilon-strongly graded rings. As our main application we obtain…
If $E$ is a directed graph and $K$ is a field, the Leavitt path algebra $L_K(E)$ of $E$ over $K$ is naturally graded by the group of integers $\mathbb Z.$ We formulate properties of the graph $E$ which are equivalent with $L_K(E)$ being a crossed product, a skew group ring, or a group ring with respect to this natural grading. We state this main result so that the algebra properties of $L_K(E)$ are also characterized in terms of the pre-ordered group properties of the Grothendieck $\mathbb Z$-group of $L_K(E)$. If $E$ has finitely many vertices, we characterize when $L_K(E)$ is strongly graded…
Let $R$ be a ring with a set of local units, and a homomorphism of groups $\underlineΘ : \G \to \Picar{R}$ to the Picard group of $R$. We study under which conditions $\underlineΘ$ is determined by a factor map, and, henceforth, it defines a generalized crossed product with a same set of local units. Given a ring extension $R \subseteq S$ with the same set of local units and assuming that $\underlineΘ$ is induced by a homomorphism of groups $\G \to \Inv{R}{S}$ to the group of all invertible $R$-sub-bimodules of $S$, then we construct an analogue of the Chase-Harrison-Rosenberg seven terms exac…
Let A be a unital ring which is a product of possibly infinitely many indecomposable rings. We establish criteria for the existence of a globalization for a given twisted partial action of a group on A. If the globalization exists, it is unique up to a certain equivalence relation and, moreover, the crossed product corresponding to the twisted partial action is Morita equivalent to that corresponding to its globalization. For arbitrary unital rings the globalization problem is reduced to an extendibility property of the multipliers involved in the twisted partial action.

Let $A$ be a unital associative algebra over a field $k$. All unital associative algebras containing $A$ as a subalgebra of a given codimension $\mathfrak{c}$ are described and classified. For a fixed vector space $V$ of dimension $\mathfrak{c}$, two non-abelian cohomological type objects are explicitly constructed: ${\mathcal A}{\mathcal H}^{2}_{A} \, (V, \, A)$ will classify all such algebras up to an isomorphism that stabilizes $A$ while ${\mathcal A}{\mathcal H}^{2} \, (V, \, A)$ provides the classification from Hölder's extension problem viewpoint. A new product, called the unified produc…
