Partial actions of discrete abelian groups can be used to construct both groupoid C*-algebras and partial crossed product algebras. In each case there is a natural notion of an analytic subalgebra. We show that for countable subgroups of the real numbers and free partial actions, these constructions yield the same C*-algebras and the same analytic subalgebras. We also show that under suitable hypotheses an analytic partial crossed product preserves all the information in the dynamical system in the sense that two analytic partial crossed products are isomorphic as Banach algebras if, and only if, the partial actions are conjugate.
In this paper we investigate the interrelation between the topological freedom of partial actions of discrete groups and faithful representations of partial crossed products.
Let (A,G,α) be a partial dynamical system. We show that there is a bijective correspondence between G-invariant ideals of A and ideals in the partial crossed product A xr G provided the action is exact and residually topologically free. A partial action is associated with a normal weakly left resolving labelled space such that the crossed product and labelled space $C^*$-algebras are isomorphic. An improved characterization of simplicity for labelled space $C^*$-algebras is given and applied to $C^*$-algebras of subshifts.
In this work, for a given inverse semigroup we will define the crossed product of an inverse semigroup by a partial action. Also, we will associate to an inverse semigroup $G$ an inverse semigroup $S_G$, and we will prove that there is a correspondence between the covariant representation of $G$ and covariant representation of $S_G$. Finally, we will explore a connection between crossed products of an inverse semigroup actions and crossed products by partial actions of inverse semigroups.
In this paper, we realize C*-algebras of generalized Boolean dynamical systems as partial crossed products. Reciprocally, we give some sufficient conditions for a partial crossed product to be isomorphic to a C*-algebra of a generalized Boolean dynamical system. As an application, we show that gauge-invariant ideals of C*-algebras of generalized Boolean dynamical systems are themselves C*-algebras of generalized Boolean dynamical system.
The Cuntz algebra O_n is presented as a partial crossed product in which an amenable group partially acts on an abelian C*-algebra. The partial action is related to the Cuntz groupoid for O_n and connections are made with non-self-adjoint subalgebras of O_n, particularly the Volterra nest subalgebra. These ideas are also extended to the M_k(O_n) context.
Let $(A,α)$ be a system consisting of a $C^*$-algebra $A$ and an automorphism $α$ of $A$. We describe the primitive ideal space of the partial-isometric crossed product $A\times_α^{\textrm{piso}}\mathbb{N}$ of the system by using its realization as a full corner of a classical crossed product and applying some results of Williams and Echterhoff.

We bound the nuclear dimension of crossed products associated to some partial actions of finite groups or $\mathbb{Z}$ on finite dimensional locally compact Hausdorff second countable spaces. Our results apply to globalizable partial actions, finite group partial actions, minimal partial automorphisms, and partial automorphisms acting on zero-dimensional spaces, or a class of one dimensional spaces, containing $1$-dimensional CW complexes. This extends work on global systems by Hirshberg and Wu.
For a given discrete group $G$, we apply results of Kirchberg on exact and injective tensor products of $C^*$-algebras to give an explicit description of the minimal exact correspondence crossed-product functor and the maximal injective crossed-product functor for $G$ in the sense of Buss, Echterhoff and Willett. In particular, we show that the former functor dominates the latter.
Let P be a left LCM semigroup, and $α$ an action of $P$ by endomorphisms of a $C^{*}$-algebra $A$. We study a semigroup crossed product $C^{*}$-algebra in which the action $α$ is implemented by partial isometries. This crossed product gives a model for the Nica-Teoplitz algebras of product systems of Hilbert bimodules (associated with semigroup dynamical systems) studied first by Fowler, for which we provide a structure theorem as it behaves well under short exact sequences and tensor products.
Let $Γ^+$ be the positive cone in a totally ordered abelian group $Γ$, and let $α$ be an action of $Γ^+$ by endomorphisms of a $C^*$-algebra $A$. We consider a new kind of crossed-product $C^*$-algebra $A\times_αΓ^+$, which is generated by a faithful copy of $A$ and a representation of $Γ^+$ as partial isometries. We claim that these crossed products provide a rich and tractable family of Toeplitz algebras for product systems of Hilbert bimodules, as recently studied by Fowler, and we illustrate this by proving detailed structure theorems for actions by forward and backward shifts.
In this work we present a new definition to the Partial Crossed Product by actions of inverse semigroups in a C^*-algebra, without using the covariant representations as Sieben did in [5]. In a recent paper, Pardo and the first named author introduced a class of C*-algebras which which are constructed from an action of a group on a graph. This class was shown to include many C*-algebras of interest, including all Kirchberg algebras in the UCT class. In this paper, we study the conditions under which these algebras can be realized as partial crossed products of commutative C*-algebras by groups. Recently, Cuntz and Li introduced the C^*-algebra A[R] associated to an integral domain R with finite quotients. In this paper, we show that A[R] is a partial group algebra of the group $K \rtimes K^x$ with suitable relations, where K is the field of fractions of R. We identify the spectrum of this relations and we show that it is homeomorphic to the profinite completion of R. By using partial crossed product theory, we reconstruct some results proved by Cuntz and Li. Among them, we prove that $\ar$ is simple by showing that the action is topologically free and minimal.

The recently developed theory of partial actions of discrete groups on $C^*$-algebras is extended. A related concept of actions of inverse semigroups on $C^*$-algebras is defined, including covariant representations and crossed products. The main result is that every partial crossed product is a crossed product by a semigroup action.
For partial automorphisms of $C^*$-algebras, Takai-Takesaki crossed product duality tends to fail, in proportion to the extent to which the partial automorphism is not an automorphism.
Partial actions of discrete groups on $C^*$-algebras and the associated crossed products have been studied by Exel and McClanahan. We characterise these crossed products in terms of the spectral subspaces of the dual coaction, generalising and simplifying a theorem of Exel for single partial automorphisms. We then use this characterisation to identify the Cuntz algebras and the Toeplitz algebras of Nica as crossed products by partial actions.
We characterise the (Jacobson) radical of the analytic crossed product of C_0(X) by the non-negative integers (Z_+), answering a question first raised by Arveson and Josephson in 1969. In fact, we characterise the radical of analytic crossed products of C_0(X) by (Z_+)^d. The radical consists of all elements whose `Fourier coefficients' vanish on the recurrent points of the dynamical system (and the first one is zero). The multi-dimensional version requires a variation of the notion of recurrence, taking into account the various degrees of freedom.
We characterize supramenable groups in terms of existence of invariant probability measures for partial actions on compact Hausdorff spaces and existence of tracial states on partial crossed products. These characterizations show that, in general, one cannot decompose a partial crossed product of a C*-algebra by a semi-direct product of groups as two iterated partial crossed products. We give conditions which ensure that such decomposition is possible.
We use the boundary-path space of a finitely-aligned k-graph Λto construct a compactly-aligned product system X, and we show that the graph algebra C^*(Λ) is isomorphic to the Cuntz-Nica-Pimsner algebra NO(X). In this setting, we introduce the notion of a crossed product by a semigroup of partial endomorphisms and partially-defined transfer operators by defining it to be NO(X). We then compare this crossed product with other definitions in the literature.
The article discusses the interrelation between relative Cuntz-Pimsner algebras and partial isometric crossed products, and presents a procedure that reduces any given Hilbert bimodule to the "smallest" Hilbert bimodule yielding the same relative Cuntz-Pimsner algebra as the initial one. In the context of crossed products this reduction procedure corresponds to reduction of C*-dynamical systems.
We decompose the crossed product functor for actions of crossed modules of locally compact groups on C*-algebras into more elementary constructions: taking crossed products by group actions and fibres in C*-algebras over topological spaces. For this, we extend the theory of partial crossed products from groups to crossed modules; extend Takesaki-Takai duality to Abelian crossed modules; show that equivalent crossed modules have equivalent categories of actions on C*-algebras; and show that certain crossed modules are automatically equivalent to Abelian crossed modules.
Given a partial action αof a group G on an associative algebra A we consider the crossed product A x_αG. Using the algebras of multipliers of ideals of A we prove that A x_αG is associative, provided that all ideals of A are idempotent. This generalizes a previous result on the associativity of A x_αG in the context of C*-algebras. For a free partial action of a group in a set we realize the associated partial skew group ring as an algebra of functions with finite support over an equivalence relation and we use this result to characterize the ideals in the partial skew group ring. This generalizes, to the purely algebraic setting, the known characterization of partial C*-crossed products as groupoid C*-algebras. For completeness we include a new proof of the C* result for free partial actions.
For a given inverse semigroup S , we introduce the notion of algebraic crossed product by using a given partial action of S, and we will prove that under some condition it is associative. Also we will introduce the concept of partial semigroup algebra K_{Par}(S) , and we show that the suitable quotient of K_{Par}(S) is a sort of crossed product.
We establish $\mathcal{Z}$-stability for crossed products of outer actions of amenable groups on $\mathcal{Z}$-stable $C^*$-algebras under a mild technical assumption which we call McDuff property with respect to invariant traces. We obtain such result using a weak form of dynamical comparison, which we verify in great generality. We complement our results by proving that McDuffness with respect to invariant traces is automatic in many cases of interest. In this paper we extend the constructions of Boava and Exel to present the C*-algebra associated with an injective endomorphism of a group with finite cokernel as a partial group algebra and consequently as a partial crossed product. We describe both the Bunce-Deddens C*-algebras and their Toeplitz versions, as crossed products of commutative C*-algebras by partial automorphisms. In the latter case, the commutative algebra has, as its spectrum, the union of the Cantor set and a copy the set of natural numbers N, fitted together in such a way that N is an open dense subset. We study partial actions of exact discrete groups on C*-algebras. We show that the partial crossed product of a commutative C*-algebra by an exact discrete group is nuclear whenever the full and reduced partial crossed products coincide. This generalises a result by Matsumura in the context of global actions. Using the Baum-Connes conjecture with coefficients, we develop a K-theory formula for reduced C*-algebras of strongly $0$-$E$-unitary inverse semigroups, or equivalently, for certain reduced partial crossed products. In the case of semigroup C*-algebras, we obtain a generalization of previous K-theory results of Cuntz, Echterhoff and the author without having to assume the Toeplitz condition. The paper presents a construction of the crossed product of a C*-algebra by a commutative semigroup of bounded positive linear maps generated by partial isometries. In particular, it generalizes Antonevich, Bakhtin, Lebedev's crossed product by an endomorphism, and is related to Exel's interactions. One of the main goals is the Isomorphism Theorem established in the case of actions by endomorphisms.

The graph C*-algebra of a directed graph E is the universal C*-algebra generated by a family of partial isometries satisfying relations which reflect the path structure of E. In the first part of this paper we consider coverings of directed graphs: morphisms p:F->E which are local isomorphisms. We show that the graph algebra C*(F) can be recovered from C*(E) as a crossed product by a coaction of a homogeneous space associated to the fundamental group π_1 (E). We introduce a method to study C*-algebras possessing an action of the circle group, from the point of view of its internal structure and its K-theory. Under relatively mild conditions our structure Theorem shows that any C*-algebra, where an action of the circle is given, arises as the result of a construction that generalizes crossed products by the group of integers. The notions of Busby-Smith and Green type twisted actions are extended to discrete unital inverse semigroups. The connection between the two types, and the connection with twisted partial actions, are investigated. Decomposition theorems for the twisted crossed products are given.
We introduce the notion of the partial group algebra with projections and relations and show that this C*-algebra is a partial crossed product. Examples of partial group algebras with projections and relations are the Cuntz-Krieger algebras and the unitization of C*-algebras of directed graphs.
In this partly expository paper we compare three different categories of C*-algebras in which crossed-product duality can be formulated, both for actions and for coactions of locally compact groups. In these categories, the isomorphisms correspond to C*-algebra isomorphisms, imprimitivity bimodules, and outer conjugacies, respectively. In each case, a variation of the fixed-point functor that arises from classical Landstad duality is used to obtain a quasi-inverse for a crossed-product functor. We consider crossed product von Neumann algebras arising from free Bogoljubov actions of the integers. We describe several presentations of them as amalgamated free products and cocycle crossed products and give a criterion for factoriality. A number of isomorphism results for free Bogoljubov crossed products are proved, focusing on those arising from almost periodic representations. We complement our isomorphism results by rigidity results yielding non-isomorphic free Bogoljubov crossed products and by a partial characterisation of strong solidity of a free Bogoljubov crossed products in term…
We give a new definition of the semigroup C*-algebra of a left cancellative semigroup, which resolves problems of the construction by X. Li. Namely, the new construction is functorial, and the independence of ideals in the semigroup does not influence the independence of the generators. It has a group C*-algebra as a natural quotient. The C*-algebra of the old construction is a quotient of the new one. All this applies both to the full and reduced C*-algebras. A collection of partial isometries whose range and initial projections satisfy a specified set of conditions often gives rise to a partial representation of a group. The C*-algebra generated by the partial isometries is thus a quotient of the universal C*-algebra for partial representations of the group, from which it inherits a crossed product structure, of an abelian C*-algebra by a partial action of the group. Questions of faithfulness of representations, simplicity, and ideal structure of these C*-algebras can then be addressed in a unified manner from within the theory of partial actions.…
We present a different way to study the C*-algebra associated with an injective endomorphism of a group G of infinite cokernel. We follow the work of Boava and Exel to construct a partial crossed product representation of that C*-algebra and show properties only using such tools.
