Let H be a closed subgroup of a linear algebraic group G defined over a field F. There is an equivalence of categories between the category of linear finite-dimensional representations of H and the category of finite rank G-homogeneous vectorbundles on G/H. In this short note we study this correspondence for the sheaves of principal parts (=jetbundles) of homogeneous linebundles on projective space in characteristic zero. We describe the representation corresponding to the principal parts of a homogeneous linebundle and as a corollary we obtain known formulas on the splitting type of the principal parts on projective space in any dimension.
We develop techniques to split the principal parts on the projective line over an arbitrary ring and apply these techniques to give a complete classification of the principal parts on the projective line over any field of characteristic zero.
Let G be a connected reductive group. The late Ramanathan gave a notion of (semi)stable principal G-bundle on a complex projective curve and constructed a projective moduli space of such objects. We generalize Ramanathan's notion and construction to the case of higher dimension, allowing also objects which we call semistable principal G-sheaves.
It is shown that projectivized irreducible components of nilpotent cones of complex symmetric spaces are projective self-dual algebraic varieties. Other properties equivalent to their projective self-duality are found.
We generalise the variant of the Babylonian tower theorem for vector bundles on projective spaces proved by I. Coanda and G. Trautmann (2006) to the case of principal $G$-bundles over projective spaces, where $G$ is a linear algebraic group defined over an algebraically closed field. In course of the proofs some new insight into the structure of such principal $G$-bundles is obtained.
Using combinatorial methods, we determine that a projective coordinate ring of the moduli of parabolic principal $\mathrm{SL}_2$-bundles on a marked projective curve is not Gorenstein when the genus and number of marked points are greater than $1$.
Let X be a smooth projective complex variety, and let G be an algebraic reductive complex group. We define the notion of principal G-sheaf, that generalises the notion of principal G-bundle. Then we define a notion of semistability, and construct the projective moduli space of semistable principal G-sheaves on X. This is a natural compactification of the moduli space of principal G-bundles. This is the announcement note presented by the second author in the conference held at Catania (11-13 April 2001), dedicated to the 60th birthday of Silvio Greco. Detailed proofs will appear elsewhere.

Let ${\bf P}^n$ be the projective $n-$space over the complex numbers. In this note we show that an indecomposable rigid coherent sheaf on ${\bf P}^n$ has a trivial endomorphism algebra. This generalizes a result of Drezet for $n=2.$
Let $X$ be a connected smooth complex projective variety of dimension $n \geq 1$. Let $D$ be a simple normal crossing divisor on $X$. Let $G$ be a connected complex Lie group, and $E_G$ a holomorphic principal $G$-bundle on $X$. In this article, we give criterion for existence of a logarithmic connection on $E_G$ singular along $D$.
Let $H$ be a semisimple algebraic group. We prove the semistable reduction theorem for $μ$--semistable principal $H$--bundles over a {\it smooth projective variety $X$} defined over the field $\bc$. When $X$ is a {\it smooth projective surface} and $H$ is simple, we construct the algebro--geometric Donaldson--Uhlenbeck compactification of the moduli space of $μ$--semistable principal $H$--bundles with fixed characteristic classes and describe its points. For large characteristic classes we show that the moduli space of $μ$--stable principal $H$--bundles is non--empty.
We study the splitting-type of the bi-modules of principal parts (Grothendiecks analogue of jet-bundles in algebraic geometry) as left and right O-module on the projective line in positive characteristic, and obtain explicit examples where the splitting-type as left O-module differs from the splitting-type as right O-module. Hence the principal parts are the first examples of a sheaf of abelian groups equipped with two non-isomorphic structures as locally free O-module. We also give explicit examples showing that in some cases the splitting-type changes with the characteristic of the base-fiel…
Let G be a simple linear algebraic group defined over the complex numbers. Fix a proper parabolic subgroup P of G and a nontrivial antidominant character χof P. We prove that a holomorphic principal G-bundle E over a connected complex projective manifold M is semistable and the second Chern class of its adjoint bundle vanishes in rational cohomology if and only if the line bundle over E/P defined by χis numerically effective. Similar results remain valid for principal bundles with a reductive linear algebraic group as the structure group. These generalize an earlier work of Y. Miyaoka where he…
Let (X, ω) be a compact connected Kaehler manifold of complex dimension d and E_G a holomorphic principal G-bundle on X, where G is a connected reductive linear algebraic group defined over C. Let Z (G) denote the center of G. We prove that the following three statements are equivalent: (1) There is a parabolic subgroup P of G and a holomorphic reduction of the structure group of E_G to P (say, E_P) such that the bundle obtained by extending the structure group of E_P to L(P)/Z(G) (where L(P) is the Levi quotient of P) admits a flat connection; (2) The adjoint vector bundle ad(E_G) is numerica…
Let M be a geometrically irreducible smooth projective variety, defined over a finite field k, such that M admits a k-rational point x_0. Let \varpi(M,x_0) denote the corresponding fundamental group--scheme introduced by Nori. Let E_G be a principal G-bundle over M, where G is a reduced reductive linear algebraic group defined over the field k. Fix a polarization ξon M. We prove that the following three statements are equivalent: The principal G-bundle E_G over M is given by a homomorphism \varpi(M,x_0) --> G. There are integers b > a > 0 such that the principal G-bundle (F^b_M)^*E_G is isomor…
In this article, we solve the problem of constructing moduli spaces of semistable principal bundles (and singular versions of them) over smooth projective varieties over algebraically closed ground fields of positive characteristic.
We characterize the integral Zariski decomposition of a smooth projective surface with Picard number 2 to partially solve a problem of B. Harbourne, P. Pokora, and H. Tutaj-Gasinska [Electron. Res. Announc. Math. Sci. 22 (2015), 103--108].
Let $Y_{1},\dots,Y_{l}$ be smooth irreducible projective curves and let $Y$ be its disjoint union. Given a semisimple reductive algebraic group $G$ and a faithful representation $ρ:G\hookrightarrow \textrm{SL}(V)$ we construct a projective moduli space of $(\underlineκ,δ)$-(semi)stable singular principal $G$-bundles with generalized parabolic structure of type $\underline{e}$. In case $Y$ is the normalization of a connected and reducible projective nodal curve $X$, there is a closed subscheme coarsely representing the subfunctor corresponding to descending bundles. We prove that the descent op…
It is proved that a smooth rational surface in projective four-space, which is ruled by cubics or quartics has degree at most 12. It is also proved that a smooth rational surface in projective four-space which is the image of Fn by a linear system with "simple base points" (see text) has degree at most 12.
In this article, we give a proof for a geometric presentation theorem for any irreducible scheme $X$ smooth projective over a discrete valuation ring $R$. As a consequence, for any reductive $R$-group scheme $\mathbf{G}$, we prove that any generically trivial principal $\mathbf{G}$-bundle over $X$ glued to a principal $\mathbf{G}_U$-bundle over the affine line $\mathbb{A}^1_U$ for a semilocal affine scheme $U$.
We generalize results by Wakabayashi and Orevkov about rational cuspidal curves on the projective plane to that on $\mathbb{Q}$-homology projective planes. It turns out that the result is exactly the same as the projective plane case under suitable assumptions. We also provide examples which demonstrate sharpness of the results. The ambient surface is singular in these examples.
Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. Let f:X-->S be a flat, projective morphism of k-schemes of finite type with integral geometric fibers. We prove existence of a projective relative moduli space for semistable singular principal bundles on the fibres of f. This generalizes the result of A. Schmitt who studied the case when X is a nodal curve.
We prove a numerical characterization of $\mathbb{P}^n$ for varieties with at worst isolated local complete intersection quotient singularities. In dimension three, we prove such a numerical characterization of $\mathbb{P}^3$ for normal $\mathbb{Q}$-Gorenstein projective varieties.
The pourpose of these notes is to give an elementary description of one of the simplest Berkovich's spaces: that associated to the projective line of a complete and algebraically closed ultrametric field. \ L'objectif de ces notes est de donner une description élémentaire de l'un des espaces de Berkovich le plus simple : celui associé à la droite projective, où le corps ultramétrique de base sera supposé complet et algébriquement clos.
For a simple complex Lie group G the connected components of the moduli space of G-bundles over an elliptic curve are weighted projective spaces. In this note we will provide a new proof of this result using the invariant theory of Kac-Moody groups, in particular the action of the (twisted) Coxeter element on the root system of G.
We prove a formula for the orbifold Chow ring of semi-projective toric DM stacks, generalizing the orbifold Chow ring formula of projective toric DM stacks by Borisov-Chen-Smith. We also consider a special kind of semi-projective toric DM stacks, the Lawrence toric DM stacks. We prove that the orbifold Chow ring of a Lawrence toric DM stack is isomorphic to the orbifold Chow ring of its associated hypertoric DM stack studied in \cite{JT}.
These notes provide a description of the abelian categories that arise as categories of coherent sheaves on weighted projective lines. Two different approaches are presented: one is based on a list of axioms and the other yields a description in terms of expansions of abelian categories. A weighted projective line is obtained from a projective line by inserting finitely many weights. So we describe the category of coherent sheaves on a projective line in some detail, and the insertion of weights amounts to adding simple objects. We call this process `expansion' and treat it axiomatically. Thus…
These are notes on some algebraic geometry of complex projective curves, together with an application to studying the contact curves in CP^3 and the null curves in the complex quadric Q^3 in CP^4, related by the well-known Klein correspondence. Most of this note consists of recounting the classical background. The main application is the explicit classification of rational null curves of low degree in Q^3. I have recently received a number of requests for these notes, so I am posting them to make them generally available.
Being inspired by a work of Curtis T. McMullen about a very impressive automorphism of a K3 surface of Picard number zero, we shall clarify the structure of the bimeromorphic automorphism group of a non-projective hyperkähler manifold, up to finite group factor. We also discuss relevant topics, especially, new counterexamples of Kodaira's problem about algebraic approximation of a compact Kähler manifold.
We determine the second fundamental form of a variation of Hodge Structure of a smooth projective hypersurface using the classical identification of the Hodge structure and the action of the infinitesimal variation of Hodge structure with pieces of the Jacobian Ideal of the hypersurface. This simple algebraic description also implies that, in this case, the variation of Hodge structure satisfies a new set of second order partial differential equations.Comments are welcome!
Projective modules are a link between geometry and algebra as established by the theorem of Serre-Swan. In this paper, we define the super analog of projective modules and explore this link in the case of some particular super geometric objects. We consider the tangent bundle over the supersphere and show that the module of vector field over a supersphere is a super projective module over the ring of supersmooth functions. Also, we discuss a class of super projective modules that can be constructed from a projection map on modules defined over the ring of supersmooth functions over supersphere…
It is well known that for an ample line bundle $L$ on an Abelian variety $A$, the linear system |2L| is base point free, and 3L is very ample, moreover the map defined by the linear system |2L| is well understood. In this paper we generalized this classical result and give a new proof using the theory CGG developed by Pareschi and Popa.
It has been shown by Hacking and Prokhorov that if the projective surface X with quotient singularities and self-intersection number 9 has a smoothing to the projective plane, then X is the general fiber of a Q-Gorenstein deformation of the weighted projective plane with weights giving solutions to the Markov equation. This result has been understood and generalized by combinatorial mutations of Fano triangles by Akhtar, Coates, Galkin, and Kasprzyk. In this note, we study this result by utilizing polarized T-varieties and describe the associated deformation explicitly in terms of certain Mink…
We collect some results on endomorphisms on projective varieties related with the Kawaguchi-Silverman conjecture. We discuss certain condition on automorphism groups of projective varieties and positivity conditions on leading real eigendivisors of self-morphisms. We prove Kawaguchi-Silverman conjecture for endomorphisms on projective bundles on a smooth Fano variety of Picard number one. In the last section, we discuss endomorphisms and augmented base loci of their eigendivisors.
We prove the existence of global minimal models for rational morphisms $ϕ:{\mathbb P}^N\rightarrow{\mathbb P}^N$ of projective space defined over the field of fractions of a principal ideal domain.
Entropy of categorical dynamics is defined by Dmitrov-Haiden-Katzarkov-Kontsevich. Motivated by the fundamental theorem of the topological entropy due to Gromov-Yomdin, it is natural to ask an equality between the entropy and the spectral radius of induced morphisms on the numerical Grothendieck group. In this paper, we add two results on this equality: the lower bound in a general setting and the equality for orbifold projective lines.
A $\mathbf{Q}$-Cartier divisor $D$ on a projective variety $M$ is {\it almost nup}, if $(D , C) > 0$ for every very general curve $C$ on $M$. An algebraic variety $X$ is of {\it almost general type}, if there exists a projective variety $M$ with only terminal singularities such that the canonical divisor $K_M$ is almost nup and such that $M$ is birationally equivalent to $X$. We prove that a complex algebraic variety is of almost general type if and only if it is neither uniruled nor covered by any family of varieties being birationally equivalent to minimal varieties with numerically trivial …
This paper continues the study of holomorphic semistable principal G-bundles over an elliptic curve. In this paper, the moduli space of all such bundles is constructed by considering deformations of a minimally unstable G-bundle. The set of all such deformations can be described as the C^* quotient of the cohomology group of a sheaf of unipotent groups, and we show that this quotient has the structure of a weighted projective space. We identify this weighted projective space with the moduli space of semistable G-bundles, giving a new proof of a theorem of Looijenga.
Symmetric varieties are normal equivariant open embeddings of symmetric homogeneous spaces and they are interesting examples of spherical varieties. The principal goal of this article is to study the rigidity under Kähler deformations of smooth projective symmetric varieties with Picard number one.
Let M be an irreducible smooth projective variety defined over \bar{{\mathbb F}_p}. Let π(M, x_0) be the fundamental group scheme of M with respect to a base point x_0. Let G be a connected semisimple linear algebraic group over \bar{{\mathbb F}_p}. Fix a parabolic subgroup P \subsetneq G, and also fix a strictly anti-dominant character χof P. Let E_G \to M be a principal G-bundle such that the associated line bundle E_G(χ) \to E_G/P is numerically effective. We prove that E_G is given by a homomorphism π(M, x_0)\to G. As a consequence, there is no principal G-bundle E_G \to M such that degree…
These are lecture notes on the rigidity of submanifolds of projective space "resembling" compact Hermitian symmetric spaces in their homogeneous embeddings. Recent results are surveyed, along with their classical predecessors. The notes include an introduction to moving frames in projective geometry, an exposition of the Hwang-Yamaguchi ridgidity theorem and a new variant of the Hwang-Yamaguchi theorem.
In this paper we proof the existence of a linearization for singular principal G-bundles not depending on the base curve. This allow us to construct the relative compact moduli space of δ-(semi)stable singular principal G-bundles over families of reduced projective and connected nodal curves, and to reduce the construction of the universal moduli space over $\overline{M}_{g}$ to the construction of the universal moduli space of swamps.
The aim of this note is to investigate the relation between two types of non-singular projective varieties of Picard rank 2, namely the Projective bundles over Projective spaces and certain Blow-up of Projective spaces.
A common criticism of infinity-categories in algebraic geometry is that they are an extremely technical subject, so abstract to be useless in everyday mathematics. The aim of this note is to show in a classical example that quite the converse is true: even a naive intuition of what an infinity-groupoid should be clarifies several aspects of the infinitesimal behaviour of the periods map of a projective manifold. In particular, the notion of Cartan homotopy turns out to be completely natural from this perspective, and so classical results such as Griffiths' expression for the differential of th…
We study Miyaoka-type semistability criteria for principal Higgs G-bundles E on complex projective manifolds of any dimension. We prove that E has the property of being semistable after pullback to any projective curve if and only if certain line bundles, obtained from some characters of the parabolic subgroups of G, are numerically effective. One also proves that these conditions are met for semistable principal Higgs bundles whose adjoint bundle has vanishing second Chern class. In a second part of the paper, we introduce notions of numerical effectiveness and numerical flatness for principa…
Let $X$ be a geometrically irreducible smooth projective curve, of genus at least three, defined over the field of real numbers. Let $G$ be a connected reductive affine algebraic group, defined over $\mathbb R$, such that $G$ is nonabelian and has one simple factor. We prove that the isomorphism class of the moduli space of principal $G$--bundles on $X$ determine uniquely the isomorphism class of $X$.
Let $f:X\to Y$ be a fibration from a smooth projective 3-fold to a smooth projective curve, over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic $p >5$. We prove that if the generic fiber $X_η$ has big canonical divisor $K_{X_η}$, then $$κ(X)\geκ(Y) + κ(X_η).$$
Let V be a normal affine surface which admits a C*- and a C+-action. In this note we show that in many cases V can be embedded as a principal Zariski open subset into a hypersurface of a weighted projective space. In particular, we recover a result of D. Daigle and P. Russell.
Given a smooth complex projective variety X and a smooth divisor D on X, we prove the existence of Hermitian-Einstein connections, with respect to a Poincaré-type metric on X - D, on polystable parabolic principal Higgs bundles with parabolic structure over D, satisfying certain conditions on its restriction to D.
In this short note, we observe that Theorem 3.1 in arXiv:1508.00682 for semiorthogonal indecomposability of the derived category of smooth DM stacks based on the canonical bundle can be extended to the case of projective varieties with Cohen-Macaulay singularities. As a consequence, all projective curves of positive arithmetic genus have weakly indecomposable bounded derived categories and indecomposable categories of perfect complexes. Here weak indecomposablility refers to the admissibility of components.
