This paper continues the study of holomorphic semistable principal G-bundles over an elliptic curve. In this paper, the moduli space of all such bundles is constructed by considering deformations of a minimally unstable G-bundle. The set of all such deformations can be described as the C^* quotient of the cohomology group of a sheaf of unipotent groups, and we show that this quotient has the structure of a weighted projective space. We identify this weighted projective space with the moduli space of semistable G-bundles, giving a new proof of a theorem of Looijenga.
In this paper, the first of a series of three, we classify holomorphic principal G-bundles over an elliptic curve, where G is a reductive group. We also study the local and global properties of the moduli space of semistable G-bundles. We identify canonical representatives for each S-equivalence class of semistable G-bundles, and study their automorphism groups.
In \cite{Bi2} (Canad. Jour. Math. Vol. 58) we defined connections on a parabolic principal bundle. While connections on usual principal bundles are defined as splittings of the Atiyah exact sequence, it was noted in \cite{Bi2} that the Atiyah exact sequence does not generalize to the parabolic principal bundles. Here we show that a twisted version of the Atiyah exact sequence generalize to the context of parabolic principal bundles. For usual principal bundles, giving a splitting of this twisted Atiyah exact sequence is equivalent to giving a splitting of the Atiyah exact sequence. Connections…
In ``Ramified G-bundles as parabolic bundles'' (J. Ramanujan Math. Soc. (2003) Vol. 18) with Balaji and Nagaraj we introduced the ramified principal bundles. The aim here is to define the Higgs bundles in the ramified context.
The cohomology ring of the moduli space of stable holomorphic vector bundles of rank n and degree d over a Riemann surface of genus g>1 has a standard set of generators when n and d are coprime. When n=2 the relations between these generators are well understood, and in particular a conjecture of Mumford, that a certain set of relations is a complete set, is known to be true. In this article generalisations are given of Mumford's relations to the cases when n>2 and also when the bundles are parabolic bundles, and these are shown to form complete sets of relations.
Using combinatorial methods, we determine that a projective coordinate ring of the moduli of parabolic principal $\mathrm{SL}_2$-bundles on a marked projective curve is not Gorenstein when the genus and number of marked points are greater than $1$.
We define a parameter dependent notion of stability for principal bundles with a certain local decoration, which generalizes both parabolic and level structures, and construct their coarse moduli space. A necessary technical step is the construction of the moduli space of tuples of vector bundles with a global and a local decoration, which we call decorated tumps. We introduce a notion of asymptotic stability for decorated tumps and show, that stable decorated principal bundles can be described as asymptotically stable decorated tumps.
Given a smooth complex projective variety X and a smooth divisor D on X, we prove the existence of Hermitian-Einstein connections, with respect to a Poincaré-type metric on X - D, on polystable parabolic principal Higgs bundles with parabolic structure over D, satisfying certain conditions on its restriction to D.
Given a scheme over a field endowed with a strict normal crossings divisor, we define strongly parabolic connections, consistently with the current terminology for Higgs bundles. When the weights are rational with prescribed denominators, we show that strongly parabolic connections correspond to holomorphic connections on the corresponding stack of roots. We use this correspondence to establish that a holomorphic connection on a stack of roots can be reconstructed from its direct image to the moduli space.
Let $Y_{1},\dots,Y_{l}$ be smooth irreducible projective curves and let $Y$ be its disjoint union. Given a semisimple reductive algebraic group $G$ and a faithful representation $ρ:G\hookrightarrow \textrm{SL}(V)$ we construct a projective moduli space of $(\underlineκ,δ)$-(semi)stable singular principal $G$-bundles with generalized parabolic structure of type $\underline{e}$. In case $Y$ is the normalization of a connected and reducible projective nodal curve $X$, there is a closed subscheme coarsely representing the subfunctor corresponding to descending bundles. We prove that the descent op…
We study a toric degeneration of the Cox ring of the moduli of principal $SL_m(\mathbb{C})$ bundles on the projective line, with quasi parabolic data given by the the stabilizer of the highest weight vector in $\mathbb{C}^m$ and its dual $\bigwedge^{m-1}(\mathbb{C}^m)$. The affine semigroup algebra resulting from this degeneration is described using the $K-$Pieri rule from Kac-Moody representation theory. Along the way we give a proof of the $K-$Pieri rule which utilizes the classical Pieri rule and elements of commutative algebra, and we describe a relationship between the Cox ring and a clas…
Let $M$ be a compact connected Fujiki manifold, $G$ a semisimple affine algebraic group over $\mathbb C$ with one simple factor and $P$ a fixed proper parabolic subgroup of $G$. For a holomorphic principal $G$--bundle $E_G$ over $M$, let ${\mathcal E}_P$ be the holomorphic principal $P$-bundle $E_G\rightarrow E_G/P$ given by the quotient map. We prove that the following three statements are equivalent: (1) ${\rm ad}(E_G)$ is numerically flat, (2) the holomorphic line bundle $\bigwedge^{\rm top} {\rm ad}({\mathcal E}_P)^*$ is nef, and (3) for every reduced irreducible compact complex analytic s…
In this paper we describe the structure of the space of parabolic reductions, and their compactifications, of principal $G$-bundles over a smooth projective curve over an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic. We first prove estimates for the dimensions of moduli spaces of stable maps to the twisted flag varieties $E/P$ and Hilbert schemes of closed subschemes of $E/P$ with same Hilbert polynomials as that of a $P$-reductions of $E$. This generalizes the earlier results of Mihnea Popa and Mike Roth to connected reductive groups and the results of Y. I. Holla and M. S. Narasimh…
A principal pair consists of a holomorphic principal $G$-bundle together with a holomorphic section of an associated Kaehler fibration. Such objects support natural gauge theoretic equations coming from a moment map condition, and also admit a notion of stability based on Geometric Invariant Theory. The Hitchin--Kobayashi correspondence for principal pairs identifies stability as the condition for the existence of solutions to the equations. In this paper we generalize these features in a way which allows the full gauge group of the principal bundle to be replaced by certain proper subgroups. …
Winkelmann considered compact complex manifolds $X$ equipped with a reduced effective normal crossing divisor $D\, \subset\, X$ such that the logarithmic tangent bundle $TX(-\log D)$ is holomorphically trivial. He characterized them as pairs $(X,\, D)$ admitting a holomorphic action of a complex Lie group $\mathbb G$ satisfying certain conditions \cite{Wi1}, \cite{Wi2}; this $\mathbb G$ is the connected component, containing the identity element, of the group of holomorphic automorphisms of $X$ that preserve $D$. We characterize the homogeneous holomorphic principal $H$--bundles over $X$, wher…
Let X be a compact connected Riemann surface equipped with an anti-holomorphic involution σ. Let G be a connected complex reductive affine algebraic group, and let σ_G be a real form of G. We consider holomorphic principal G-bundles on X satisfying compatibility conditions with respect to σand σ_G. We prove that the points defined over $\mathbb R$ of the smooth locus of a moduli space of principal G-bundles on X are precisely these objects, under the assumption that {\rm genus}(X) > 2. Stable, semistable and polystable bundles are defined in this context. Relationship between any of these prop…
For appropriate $N\ge 3$ and $d<0,$ the moduli space of principally polarized abelian surfaces with level $N$ structure and anti-holomorphic multiplication by $\mathcal O_d$ (the ring of integers in $\mathbb Q(\sqrt{d})$) is shown to consist of the real points of a quasi-projective algebraic variety defined over $\mathbb Q$, and to coincide with finitely many copies of the quotient of hyperbolic 3-space by the principal congruence subgroup of level $N$ in $\mathbf{SL}(2, \mathcal O_d).$
Let G be a simple and simply connected complex linear algebraic group. In this paper, we discuss the generalization of the parabolic construction of holomorphic principal G-bundles over a smooth elliptic curve to the case of a singular curve of arithmetic genus one and to a fibration of Weierstrass cubics over a base B. Except for G of type E_8, the method gives a family of weighted projective spaces associated to a sum of line bundles over B. Working with the universal family of Weierstrass curves over affine two-space and its natural C^*-action, we determine the line bundles that arise in th…
Given a holomorphic principal bundle $Q\, \longrightarrow\, X$, the universal space of holomorphic connections is a torsor $C_1(Q)$ for $\text{ad} Q \otimes T^*X$ such that the pullback of $Q$ to $C_1(Q)$ has a tautological holomorphic connection. When $X\,=\, G/P$, where $P$ is a parabolic subgroup of a complex simple group $G$, and $Q$ is the frame bundle of an ample line bundle, we show that $C_1(Q)$ may be identified with $G/L$, where $L\, \subset\, P$ is a Levi factor. We use this identification to construct the twistor space associated to a natural hyper-Kähler metric on $T^*(G/P)$, reco…
We extend our earlier construction of Nahm transformation for parabolic Higgs bundles on the projective line to solutions with not necessarily semisimple residues and show that it determines a holomorphic mapping on corresponding moduli spaces. The construction relies on suitable elementary modifications of the logarithmic Dolbeault complex.
Parabolic SL(r,C)-opers were defined and investigated in [BDP] in the set-up of vector bundles on curves with a parabolic structure over a divisor. Here we introduce and study holomorphic differential operators between parabolic vector bundles over curves. We consider the parabolic SL(r,C)-opers on a Riemann surface X with given singular divisor S and with fixed parabolic weights satisfying the condition that all parabolic weights at any point $x_i$ in S are integral multiples of $\frac{1}{2N_i+1}$, where $N_i > 1$ are fixed integers. We prove that this space of opers is canonically identified…
Let $X$ be a compact Riemann surface of genus $g \geq 3$ and $S$ a finite subset of $X$. Let $ξ$ be fixed a holomorphic line bundle over $X$ of degree $d$. Let $\mathcal{M}_{pc}(r, d, α)$ (respectively, $\mathcal{M}_{pc}(r, α, ξ)$ ) denote the moduli space of parabolic connections of rank $r$, degree $d$ and full flag rational generic weight system $α$, (respectively, with the fixed determinant $ξ$) singular over the parabolic points $S \subset X$. Let $\mathcal{M}'_{pc}(r, d, α)$ (respectively, $\mathcal{M}'_{pc}(r, α, ξ)$) be the Zariski dense open subset of $\mathcal{M}_{pc}(r, d, α)$ (resp…
Given a compact complex manifold $M$, we investigate the holomorphic vector bundles $E$ on $M$ such that $φ^* E$ is trivial for some surjective holomorphic map $φ$, to $M$, from some compact complex manifold. We prove that these are exactly those holomorphic vector bundles that admit a flat holomorphic connection with finite monodromy homomorphism. A similar result is proved for holomorphic principal $G$-bundles, where $G$ is a connected reductive complex affine algebraic group.
Let (X, ω) be a compact connected Kaehler manifold of complex dimension d and E_G a holomorphic principal G-bundle on X, where G is a connected reductive linear algebraic group defined over C. Let Z (G) denote the center of G. We prove that the following three statements are equivalent: (1) There is a parabolic subgroup P of G and a holomorphic reduction of the structure group of E_G to P (say, E_P) such that the bundle obtained by extending the structure group of E_P to L(P)/Z(G) (where L(P) is the Levi quotient of P) admits a flat connection; (2) The adjoint vector bundle ad(E_G) is numerica…
We classify holomorphic as well as algebraic torus equivariant principal $G$-bundles over a nonsingular toric variety $X$, where $G$ is a complex linear algebraic group. It is shown that any such bundle over an affine, nonsingular toric variety admits a trivialization in equivariant sense. We also obtain some splitting results.
Let $P$ be a parabolic subgroup of a connected simply connected complex semisimple Lie group $G$. Given a compact Kähler manifold $X$, the dimensional reduction of $G$-equivariant holomorphic vector bundles over $X\times G/P$ was carried out by the first and third authors. This raises the question of dimensional reduction of holomorphic principal bundles over $X\times G/P$. The method used for equivariant vector bundles does not generalize to principal bundles. In this paper, we adapt to equivariant principal bundles the Tannakian approach of Nori, to describe the dimensional reduction of $G$-…
Let $E$ be a holomorphic vector bundle. Let $θ$ be a Higgs field, that is a holomorphic section of $End(E)\otimesΩ^{1,0}_X$ satisfying $θ^2=0$. Let $h$ be a pluriharmonic metric of the Higgs bundle $(E,θ)$. The tuple $(E,θ,h)$ is called a harmonic bundle. Let $X$ be a complex manifold, and $D$ be a normal crossing divisor of $X$. In this paper, we study the harmonic bundle $(E,θ,h)$ over $X-D$. We regard $D$ as the singularity of $(E,θ,h)$, and we are particularly interested in the asymptotic behaviour of the harmonic bundle around $D$. We will see that it is similar to the asymptotic behaviou…
Let $E_G$ be a holomorphic principal $G$-bundle on a compact connected Riemann surface $X$, where $G$ is a connected reductive complex affine algebraic group. Fix a finite subset $D \subset X$, and for each $x\in D$ fix $w_x \in \text{ad}(E_G)_x$. Let $T$ be a maximal torus in the group of all holomorphic automorphisms of $E_G$. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a $T$-invariant logarithmic connection on $E_G$ singular over $D$ such that the residue over each $x \in D$ is $w_x$. We also give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a logarithmic …
We review some basic facts on vector fields, in the complex-analytic setting, thus, obtaining a rationality result and an extension of the Birkhoff-Grothendieck theorem, as follows: (1) Let $Z$ be a compact complex manifold endowed with a very ample line bundle $L$. Denote by $\mathfrak{g}_L$ the extended Lie algebra of infinitesimal automorphisms of $L$. If the representation of $\mathfrak{g}_L$ on the space of holomorphic sections of $L$ is irreducible then $Z$ is rational; (2) Let $P$ be a holomorphic principal bundle over the Riemann sphere, with structural group $G$ whose Lie algebra is n…
Let $G/P$ be a rational homogeneous space (not necessarily irreducible) and $x_0\in G/P$ be the point at which the isotropy group is $P$. The $G$-translates of the orbit $Qx_0$ of a parabolic subgroup $Q\subsetneq G$ such that $P\cap Q$ is parabolic are called $Q$-cycles. We established an extension theorem for local biholomorphisms on $G/P$ that map local pieces of $Q$-cycles into $Q$-cycles. We showed that such maps extend to global biholomorphisms of $G/P$ if $G/P$ is $Q$-cycle-connected, or equivalently, if there does not exist a non-trivial parabolic subgroup containing $P$ and $Q$. Then …
We consider principal bundles over homogeneous spaces G/P, where P is a parabolic subgroup of a semisimple and simply connected complex linear algebraic group G. We prove that a holomorphic principal H--bundle, where H is a complex reductive group, is homogeneous if the adjoint vector bundle ad(E) is homogeneous. We also show that E is homogeneous if its associated vector bundle for any finite dimensional faithful H--module is homogeneous.
We give an example of an orthogonal bundle where the Harder-Narasimhan filtration, with respect to Gieseker semistability, of its underlying vector bundle does not correspond to any parabolic reduction of the orthogonal bundle. A similar example is given for the symplectic case.
Let $X$ be a connected smooth complex projective variety of dimension $n \geq 1$. Let $D$ be a simple normal crossing divisor on $X$. Let $G$ be a connected complex Lie group, and $E_G$ a holomorphic principal $G$-bundle on $X$. In this article, we give criterion for existence of a logarithmic connection on $E_G$ singular along $D$.
Let G be a simple linear algebraic group defined over the complex numbers. Fix a proper parabolic subgroup P of G and a nontrivial antidominant character χof P. We prove that a holomorphic principal G-bundle E over a connected complex projective manifold M is semistable and the second Chern class of its adjoint bundle vanishes in rational cohomology if and only if the line bundle over E/P defined by χis numerically effective. Similar results remain valid for principal bundles with a reductive linear algebraic group as the structure group. These generalize an earlier work of Y. Miyaoka where he…
Let $M$ be a compact connected Kähler manifold and let ${\E}_{l-1}$ be the smallest term in the Harder-Narasimhan filtration of its tangent bundle. Let $G$ be an affine algebraic reductive group over $\C$. We prove the following result: If $M$ satisfies the condition that $°(T/{\E}_{l-1}) \geq 0$, then a holomorphic principal $G$-bundle $P$ on $M$ admitting a compatible holomorphic connection is semistable. Moreover, if $°(T/{\E}_{l-1}) >0$, then such a bundle $P$ actually admits a compatible flat $G$-connection.
We compactify the classical moduli variety $A_g$ of principally polarized abelian varieties of complex dimension $g$ by attaching the moduli of flat tori of real dimensions at most $g$ in an explicit manner. Equivalently, we explicitly determine the Gromov-Hausdorff limits of principally polarized abelian varieties. This work is analogous to the first of our series (available at arXiv:1406.7772v2), which compactified the moduli of curves by attaching the moduli of metrized graphs. Then, we also explicitly specify the Gromov-Hausdorff limits along holomorphic family of abelian varieties and sho…
Let $(X,\,D)$ be an $m$-pointed compact Riemann surface of genus at least $2$. For each $x \,\in\, D$, fix full flag and concentrated weight system $α$. Let $P \mathcal{M}_ξ$ denote the moduli space of semi-stable parabolic vector bundles of rank $r$ and determinant $ξ$ over $X$ with weight system $α$, where $r$ is a prime number and $ξ$ is a holomorphic line bundle over $X$ of degree $d$ which is not a multiple of $r$. We compute the Chen-Ruan cohomology of the orbifold for the action on $P \mathcal{M}_ξ$ of the group of $r$-torsion points in ${\rm Pic}^0(X)$.
We study anti-holomorphic involutions of the moduli space of principal $G$-Higgs bundles over a compact Riemann surface $X$, where $G$ is a complex semisimple Lie group. These involutions are defined by fixing anti-holomorphic involutions on both $X$ and $G$. We analyze the fixed point locus in the moduli space and their relation with representations of the orbifold fundamental group of $X$ equipped with the anti-holomorphic involution. We also study the relation with branes. This generalizes work by Biswas--Garc\'ıa-Prada--Hurtubise and Baraglia--Schaposnik.
Let $E_G$ be a stable principal $G$--bundle over a compact connected Kaehler manifold, where $G$ is a connected reductive linear algebraic group defined over the complex numbers. Let $H\subset G$ be a complex reductive subgroup which is not necessarily connected, and let $E_H\subset E_G$ be a holomorphic reduction of structure group. We prove that $E_H$ is preserved by the Einstein-Hermitian connection on $E_G$. Using this we show that if $E_H$ is a minimal reductive reduction in the sense that there is no complex reductive proper subgroup of $H$ to which $E_H$ admits a holomorphic reduction o…
Let $M\stackrelπ\arrow X$ be a principal elliptic fibration over a Kaehler base $X$. We assume that the Kaehler form on $X$ is lifted to an exact form on $M$ (such fibrations are called positive). Examples of these are regular Vaisman manifolds (in particular, the regular Hopf manifolds) and Calabi-Eckmann manifolds. Assume that $\dim M > 2$. Using the Kobayashi-Hitchin correspondence, we prove that all stable bundles on $M$ are flat on the fibers of the elliptic fibration. This is used to show that all stable vector bundles on $M$ take form $L\otimes π^* B_0$, where $B_0$ is a stable bundle o…
Let $M$ be a compact connected complex manifold and $G$ a connected reductive complex affine algebraic group. Let $E_G$ be a holomorphic principal $G$--bundle over $M$ and $T\, \subset\, G$ a torus containing the connected component of the center of $G$. Let $N$ (respectively, $C$) be the normalizer (respectively, centralizer) of $T$ in $G$, and let $W$ be the Weyl group $N/C$ for $T$. We prove that there is a natural bijective correspondence between the following two: Torus subbundles $\mathbb T$ of ${\rm Ad}(E_G)$ such that for some (hence every) $x\, \in\, M$, the fiber ${\mathbb T}_x$ lies…
In this note we formulate and prove a version of Cartan decomposition for holomorphic loop groups, similar to Cartan decomposition for $p$-adic loop groups, discussed proved by Garland (and later by the authors by geometric mathods). The main technical tool that we use is the (well-known) interpretation of twisted conjugacy classes in the holomorphic loop group in terms of principal holomorphic bundles on an elliptic curve.
