Given a scheme over a field endowed with a strict normal crossings divisor, we define strongly parabolic connections, consistently with the current terminology for Higgs bundles. When the weights are rational with prescribed denominators, we show that strongly parabolic connections correspond to holomorphic connections on the corresponding stack of roots. We use this correspondence to establish that a holomorphic connection on a stack of roots can be reconstructed from its direct image to the moduli space.
For every set of parabolic weights, we construct a Harder-Narasimhan stratification for the moduli stack of parabolic vector bundles on a curve. It is based on the notion of parabolic slope, introduced by Mehta and Seshadri. We also prove that the stratification is schematic, that each stratum is complete, and establish an analogue of Behrend's conjecture for parabolic vector bundles. A comparison with recent $Θ$-stratification approaches is discussed.
We define and study infinite root stacks of fine and saturated logarithmic schemes, a limit version of the root stacks introduced by Niels Borne and the second author. We show in particular that the infinite root stack determines the logarithmic structure, and recovers the Kummer-flat topos of the logarithmic scheme. We also extend the correspondence between parabolic sheaves and quasi-coherent sheaves on root stacks to this new setting.
We generalize a classical result by V. G. Sarkisov about standard models for conic bundles to the case of a not necessarily algebraically closed perfect field, using iterated root stacks, destackification, and resolution of singularities.
We give a formula for the cohomological invariants of a root stack, which we apply to compute the cohomological invariants and the Brauer group of the stack of admissible double coverings.
We give a functorial description of the Kato-Nakayama space of a fine saturated log analytic space that is similar in spirit to the functorial description of root stacks. As a consequence we get a global description of the comparison map constructed in arXiv:1511.00037 from the Kato-Nakayama space to the (topological) infinite root stack.
We reinterpret the residue map for the Brauer group of a smooth variety using a root stack construction and Weil restriction for algebraic stacks, and apply the result to find a geometric representative of for the residue of a Brauer class associated to a conic bundle, or more generally a Brauer-Severi bundle.
In \cite{TY18}, higher genus Gromov--Witten invariants of the stack of $r$-th roots of a smooth projective variety $X$ along a smooth divisor $D$ are shown to be polynomials in $r$. In this paper we study the degrees and coefficients of these polynomials.
Given a smooth projective variety $X$ with a smooth nef divisor $D$ and a positive integer $r$, we construct an $I$-function, an explicit slice of Givental's Lagrangian cone, for Gromov--Witten theory of the root stack $X_{D,r}$. As an application, we also obtain an $I$-function for relative Gromov--Witten theory following the relation between relative and orbifold Gromov--Witten invariants.
Given a smooth projective variety $X$ with a simple normal crossing divisor $D:=D_1+D_2+...+D_n$, where $D_i\subset X$ are smooth, irreducible and nef. We prove a mirror theorem for multi-root stacks $X_{D,\vec r}$ by constructing an $I$-function, a slice of Givental's Lagrangian cone for Gromov--Witten theory of multi-root stacks. We provide three applications: (1) We show that some genus zero invariants of $X_{D,\vec r}$ stabilize for sufficiently large $\vec r$. (2) We state a generalized local-log-orbifold principle conjecture and prove a version of it. (3) We show that regularized quantum…
We study orbifold Gromov--Witten invariants of the $r$-th root stack $X_{D,r}$ with a pair of mid-ages when $r$ is sufficiently large. We prove that genus $g$ invariants with a pair of mid-ages $k_a/r$ and $1-k_a/r$ are polynomials in $k_a$ and the $k_a^i$-coefficients are polynomials in $r$ with degree bounded by $2g$. Moreover, genus zero invariants with a pair of mid-ages are independent of the choice of mid-ages. As an application, we obtain an identity for relative Gromov--Witten theory which can be viewed as a modified version of the usual loop axiom.
We classify stacky curves in characteristic $p > 0$ with cyclic stabilizers of order $p$ using higher ramification data. This approach replaces the local root stack structure of a tame stacky curve, similar to the local structure of a complex orbifold curve, with a more sensitive structure called an Artin-Schreier root stack, allowing us to incorporate this ramification data directly into the stack. As an application, we compute dimensions of Riemann-Roch spaces for some examples of stacky curves in positive characteristic and suggest a program for computing spaces of modular forms in this set…
Using the description of the category of quasi-coherent sheaves on a root stack given in the paper of N. Borne and A. Vistoli, we study the G-theory of root stacks via localisation methods. We apply our results to the study of equivariant K-theory of algebraic varieties under certain conditions.
Let $X$ be a smooth projective curve over a field of characteristic zero and let $D$ be a non-empty set of rational points of $X$. We calculate the motivic classes of moduli stacks of semistable parabolic bundles with connections on $(X,D)$ and motivic classes of moduli stacks of semistable parabolic Higgs bundles on $(X,D)$. As a by-product we give a criteria for non-emptiness of these moduli stacks, which can be viewed as a version of the Deligne-Simpson problem.
We study the essential dimension and essential p-dimension of the moduli stack of vector bundles over a smooth orbifold curve containing a rational point. We improve the known bounds on this essential dimension and obtain an equality modulo the famous conjecture of Colliot-Thelene, Karpenko and Merkurjev. In the case of essential p-dimension we obtain an equality.
We construct semi-orthogonal decompositions on triangulated categories of parabolic sheaves on certain kinds of logarithmic schemes. This provides a categorification of the decomposition theorems in Kummer flat K-theory due to Hagihara and Nizioł. Our techniques allow us to generalize Hagihara and Nizioł's results to a much larger class of invariants in addition to K-theory, and also to extend them to more general logarithmic stacks.
For a log scheme locally of finite type over $\mathbb{C}$, a natural candidate for its profinite homotopy type is the profinite completion of its Kato-Nakayama space. Alternatively, one may consider the profinite homotopy type of the underlying topological stack of its infinite root stack. Finally, for a log scheme not necessarily over $\mathbb{C}$, another natural candidate is the profinite étale homotopy type of its infinite root stack. We prove that, for a fine saturated log scheme locally of finite type over $\mathbb{C}$, these three notions agree. In particular, we construct a comparison …
In the present paper, we give a definition of the quantum group $\mathbf{U}_\upsilon(\mathfrak{sl}(S^1))$ of the circle $S^1\colon =\mathbb{R}/\mathbb{Z}$, and its fundamental representation. Such a definition is motivated by a realization of a quantum group $\mathbf{U}_\upsilon(\mathfrak{sl}(S^1_\mathbb{Q}))$ associated to the rational circle $S^1_\mathbb{Q}\colon= \mathbb{Q}/\mathbb{Z}$ as a direct limit of $\mathbf{U}_\upsilon(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}(n))$'s, where the order is given by divisibility of positive integers. The quantum group $\mathbf{U}_\upsilon(\mathfrak{sl}(S^1_\mathbb{Q}))$ …
