We study minimal {\em double planes} of general type with $K^2=8$ and $p_g=0$, namely pairs $(S,σ)$, where $S$ is a minimal complex algebraic surface of general type with $K^2=8$ and $p_g=0$ and $σ$ is an automorphism of $S$ of order 2 such that the quotient $S/σ$ is a rational surface. We prove that $S$ is a free quotient $(F\times C)/G$, where $C$ is a curve, $F$ is an hyperelliptic curve, $G$ is a finite group that acts faithfully on $F$ and $C$, and $σ$ is induced by the automorphism $τ\times Id$ of $F\times C$, $τ$ being the hyperelliptic involution of $F$. We describe all the $F$, $C$ and $G$ that occur: in this way we obtain 5 families of surfaces with $p_g=0$ and $K^2=8$, of which we believe only one was previously known.
Using our classification we are able to give an alternative description of these surfaces as double covers of the plane, thus recovering a construction proposed by Du Val. In addition we study the geometry of the subset of the moduli space of surfaces of general type with $p_g=0$ and $K^2=8$ that admit a double plane structure.
A classification of double flag varieties of complexity 0 and 1 is obtained. An application of this problem to decomposing tensor products of irreducible representations of semisimple Lie groups is considered.
In the present paper we propose a combinatorial approach to study the so called double octic Clabi--Yau threefolds. We use this description to give a complete classification of double octics with $h^{1,2}\le1$ and to derive their geometric properties (Kummer surface fibrations, automorphisms, special elements in families).
This paper describes how to compute equations of plane models of minimal Du Val double planes of general type with $p_g=q=1$ and $K^2=2,...,8.$ A double plane with $K^2=8$ having bicanonical map not composed with the associated involution is also constructed. The computations are done using the algebra system Magma.
We study the relation between the type of a double point of a plane curve and the curvilinear 0-dimensional subschemes of the curve at the point. An Algorithm related to a classical procedure for the study of double points via osculating curves is described and proved. Eventually we look for a way to create examples of rational plane curves with given singularities $A_s$.
We describe in simple geometric terms the Hodge filtration on the cohomology groups of the complement U in the projective plane of a curve C with ordinary double and triple points. Relations to Milnor algebra, syzygies of the Jacobian ideal and pole order filtration on the second cohomology of U are given.
We prove that a double cover of $\mathbb{P}^2$ ramified along a general smooth curve B of degree $2s$, for $s \geq 3$, supports a rank 2 special Ulrich bundle.
A simple sextic is a reduced complex projective plane curve of degree 6 with only simple singularities. We introduce a notion of Z-splitting curves for the double covering of the projective plane branching along a simple sextic, and investigate lattice Zariski k-ples of simple sextics by Z-splitting curves. We define specialization of lattice types, and classify all lattice types of Z-splitting curves of degree less than or equal to 3 up to specializations.
We compute the fundamental groups of five maximizing sextics with double singular points only; in four cases, the groups are as expected. The approach used would apply to other sextics as well, given their equations.
In this paper we study the automorphisms group of some $K3$ surfaces which are double covers of the projective plane ramified over a smooth sextic plane curve. More precisely, we study the case of a $K3$ surface of Picard rank two such that there is a rational curve of degree $d$ which is tangent to the sextic in $d$ points.
If $X$ is a smooth curve such that the minimal degree of its plane models is not too small compared with its genus, then $X$ has been known to be a double cover of another smooth curve $Y$ under some mild condition on the genera. However there are no results yet for the minimal degrees of plane models of double covers except some special cases. In this paper, we give upper and lower bounds for the minimal degree of plane models of the double cover $X$ in terms of the gonality of the base curve $Y$ and the genera of $X$ and $Y$. In particular, the upper bound equals to the lower bound in case $…
We study locally Cohen-Macaulay curves in projective three-space which are contained in a double plane 2H, thus completing the classification of curves lying on surfaces of degree two. We describe the irreducible components of the Hilbert schemes of locally Cohen-Macaulay curves in 2H of given degree and arithmetic genus. We show that these Hilbert schemes are connected. We also discuss the Rao modules of these curves, and liaison and biliaison equivalence classes.
Consider a smooth complex surface $X$ which is a double cover of the projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$ branched along a smooth curve of degree $2s$. In this article, we study the geometric conditions which are equivalent to the existence of Ulrich line bundles on $X$ with respect to this double covering. Also, for every $s\geq 1$, we describe the classes of such surfaces which admit Ulrich line bundles and give examples.
The aim of this paper is to compute the class of the closure of the effective divisor in M_{6,1} given by pointed curves [C,p] with a sextic plane model mapping p to a double point. Such a divisor generates an extremal ray in the pseudoeffective cone of M_{6,1} as shown by Jensen. A general result on some families of linear series with adjusted Brill-Noether number 0 or -1 is introduced to complete the computation.
Double planes branched in 6 lines give a famous example of K3 surfaces. Their moduli are well understood and related to abelian fourfolds of Weil type. We compare these two moduli interpretations and in particular divisors on the moduli spaces. On the K3 side, this is achieved with the help of elliptic fibrations. We also study the Kuga-Satake correspondence on these special divisors.
For every supersingular $K3$ surface $X$ in characteristic 2, there exists a homogeneous polynomial $G$ of degree 6 such that $X$ is birational to the purely inseparable double cover of a projective plane defined by $w^2=G$. We present an algorithm to calculate from $G$ a set of generators of the numerical Néron-Severi lattice of $X$. As an application, we investigate the stratification defined by the Artin invariant on a moduli space of supersingular $K3$ surfaces of degree 2 in characteristic 2.
The aim of this paper is to give an explicit extension of the classical elliptic integrals to the Hilbert modular case for $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{5})$. We study a family of Kummer surfaces corresponding to the Humbert surface of invariant $5$ with two complex parameters. Our Kummer surface is given by a double covering of the weighted projective space $\mathbb{P}(1:1:2)$ branched along a parabola and a quintic curve. The period mapping for our family is given by double integrals of an algebraic function on chambers coming from an arrangement of a parabola and a quintic curve in $\mathbb{C}^2$.
In this article we classify quadruple Galois canonical covers of smooth surfaces of minimal degree. The classification shows that they are either non-simple cyclic covers or bi-double covers. If they are bi-double then they are all fiber products of double covers. We construct examples to show that all the possibilities in the classification do exist. There are implications of this classification that include the existence of families with unbounded geometric genus and families with unbounded irregularity, in sharp contrast with the case of double and triple canonical covers. Together with the…
For an affine double plane defined by an equation of the form z^2 = f, we study the divisor class group and the Brauer group. Two cases are considered. In the first case, f is a product of n linear forms in k[x,y] and X is birational to a ruled surface P^1 x C, where C is rational if n is odd and hyperelliptic if n is even. In the second case, f is the equation of an affine hyperelliptic curve. On the open set where the cover is unramified, we compute the groups of divisor classes, the Brauer groups, the relative Brauer group, as well as all of the terms in he exact sequence of Chase, Harrison…
Nondegenerate plane congruences in the four-dimensional complex projective space with degenerate general focal conic are classified by using the focal method due to Corrado Segre.
We prove that the moduli space of Calabi-Yau 3-folds coming from eight planes of $P^3$ in general positions is not modular. In fact we show the stronger statement that the Zariski closure of the monodromy group is actually the whole $Sp(20,R)$. We construct an interesting submoduli, which we call \emph{hyperelliptic locus}, over which the weight 3 $Q$-Hodge structure is the third wedge product of the weight 1 $Q$-Hodge structure on the corresponding hyperelliptic curve. The non-extendibility of the hyperelliptic locus inside the moduli space of a genuine Shimura subvariety is proved.
This note is an attempt to relate explicitly the geometric and algebraic properties of a space curve that is contained in some double plane. We show in particular that the minimal generators of the homogeneous ideal of such a curve can be written in a very specific form. As applications we characterize the possible Hartshorne-Rao modules of curves in a double plane and the minimal curves in their even Liaison classes.
In this paper we solve the problem of analytic classification of plane curves singularities with two branches by presenting their normal forms. This is accomplished by means of a new analytic invariant that relates vectors in the tangent space to the orbits under analytic equivalence in a given equisingularity class to Kähler differentials on the curve.
We study second order focal loci of nondegenerate plane congruences in P4(C) with degenerate focal conic. We show the projective generation of such congruences when the second order focal locus fills a component of the focal conic, improving a result of Corrado Segre
A configuration of 7 points in RP2 is called typical if it has no collinear triples and no coconic sextuples of points. We show that there exist 14 deformation classes of such configurations. This yields classification of real Aronhold sets.
A polynomial transformation of the real plane $\Bbb R^2$ is a mapping $\Bbb R^2\to\Bbb R^2$ given by two polynomials of two variables. Such a transformation is called cubic if the degrees of its polynomials are not greater than three. In the present paper a rough classification scheme for cubic transformations of $\Bbb R^2$ is suggested. It is based on quartic forms associated with these transformations.
We classify all monomial planar Cremona maps by multidegree using recent methods developed by Aluffi. Following the main result, we prove several more properties of the set of these maps, and also extend the results to the more general `r.c. monomial' maps.
In this paper, we give Thomae type formula for \KK surfaces $\cS$ given by double covers of the projective plane branching along six lines. This formula gives relations between theta constants on the bounded symmetric domain of type $I_{22}$ and period integrals of $X$. Moreover, we express the period integrals by using the hypergeometric function $F_S$ of four variables. As an application of our main theorem, we define $\R^4$-valued sequences by mean iterations of four terms, and express their common limits by the hypergeometric function $F_S$.
The goal of this paper is to start a study of aCM and Ulrich sheaves on non-integral projective varieties. We show that any aCM vector bundle of rank two on the double plane is a direct sum of line bundles. As a by-product, any aCM vector bundle of rank two on a sufficiently high dimensional quadric hypersurface also splits. We consider aCM and Ulrich vector bundles on a multiple hyperplanes and prove the existence of such bundles that do not split, if the multiple hyperplane is linearly embedded into a sufficiently high dimensional projective space. Then we restrict our attention to the doubl…
We use classical invariant theory to solve the biholomorphic equivalence problem for two families of plane curve singularities previously considered in the literature. Our calculations motivate an intriguing conjecture that proposes a way of extracting a complete set of invariants of homogeneous plane curve singularities from their moduli algebras.
A Q-homology plane is a normal complex algebraic surface having trivial rational homology. We classify singular Q-homology planes which are C^1- or C*-ruled. We analyze their completions, the number of different rulings, the number of affine lines on it and we give constructions. Together with previously known results this completes the classification of Q-homology planes with smooth locus of non-general type. We show also that the dimension of a family of homeomorphic but non-isomorphic singular Q-homology planes having the same weighted boundary, singularities and Kodaira dimension can be ar…
This paper is motivated by the real symplectic isotopy problem : does there exists a nonsingular real pseudoholomorphic curve not isotopic in the projective plane to any real algebraic curve of the same degree? Here, we focus our study on symmetric real curves on the projective plane. We give a classification of real schemes (resp. complex schemes) realizable by symmetric real curves of degree 7 with respect to the type of the curve (resp. M-symmetric real curves of degree 7). In particular, we exhibit two real schemes which are realizable by real symmetric dividing pseudoholomorphic curves of…
In this paper we contribute towards the classification of partially symmetric tensors in $\mathbb{F}_q^3\otimes S^2\mathbb{F}_q^3$, $q$ even, by classifying planes which intersect the Veronese surface $\mathcal{V}(\mathbb{F}_q)$ in at least one point, under the action of $K\leq \rm{PGL}(6,q)$, $K\cong \rm{PGL}(3,q)$, stabilising the Veronese surface. We also determine a complete set of geometric and combinatorial invariants for each of the orbits.
