We study locally Cohen-Macaulay curves in projective three-space which are contained in a double plane 2H, thus completing the classification of curves lying on surfaces of degree two. We describe the irreducible components of the Hilbert schemes of locally Cohen-Macaulay curves in 2H of given degree and arithmetic genus. We show that these Hilbert schemes are connected. We also discuss the Rao modules of these curves, and liaison and biliaison equivalence classes.
The Prym variety for a branched double covering of a nonsingular projective curve is defined as a polarized abelian variety. We prove that any double covering of an elliptic curve which has more than $4$ branch points is recovered from its Prym variety.
We study the relation between the type of a double point of a plane curve and the curvilinear 0-dimensional subschemes of the curve at the point. An Algorithm related to a classical procedure for the study of double points via osculating curves is described and proved. Eventually we look for a way to create examples of rational plane curves with given singularities $A_s$.
We show that three numerical semigroups <5,6,7,8>, <3,7,8 > and <3,5> are of double covering type, i.e., the Weierstrass semigroups of ramification points on double covers of curves. Combining this with the results of Oliveira-Pimentel and Komeda we can determine the Weierstrass semigroups of the ramification points on double covers of genus two curves.
We prove the generic injectivity of the Prym map, sending a double covering of an elliptic curve ramified at r>4 points to its polarized Prym variety. For r=6 the map is birational.
Let X be a smooth curve of genus g. When pi>=3g and d>=pi-2g+1 we show the existence of a double covering gamma:C-->X where C a smooth curve of genus pi with a base-point-free pencil of degree d which is not the pull-back of a pencil on X.
A simple sextic is a reduced complex projective plane curve of degree 6 with only simple singularities. We introduce a notion of Z-splitting curves for the double covering of the projective plane branching along a simple sextic, and investigate lattice Zariski k-ples of simple sextics by Z-splitting curves. We define specialization of lattice types, and classify all lattice types of Z-splitting curves of degree less than or equal to 3 up to specializations.
Let C be a complete non-singular irreducible curve of genus 4 over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. We determine all possible Weierstrass semigroups of ramification points on double covers of C which have genus greater than 11. Moreover, we construct double covers with ramification points whose Weierstrass semigroups are the possible ones.
We show that the coarse moduli space $\cR_5$ of étale double covers of curves of genus~5 over the complex numbers is unirational. We give two slightly different arguments, one purely geometric and the other more computational.
We describe in simple geometric terms the Hodge filtration on the cohomology groups of the complement U in the projective plane of a curve C with ordinary double and triple points. Relations to Milnor algebra, syzygies of the Jacobian ideal and pole order filtration on the second cohomology of U are given.
We investigate the nef cone spanned by the diagonal and the fibre classes of second symmetric product of a curve of genus $g$. This 2-dimensional nef cone gives a characterization of double covers of curves of genus $\le \frac{g-1}{8}$. This is a generalization of a result by Debarre.
We study Shimura curves of PEL type in the space of polarised abelian varieties $A^δ_p$ generically contained in the ramified Prym locus. We generalise to ramified double covers, the construction done in [10] in the unramified case and in the case of two ramification points. Namely, we construct families of double covers which are compatible with a fixed group action on the base curve. We only consider the case of one-dimensional families and where the quotient of the base curve by the group is ${\mathbb P}^1$. Using computer algebra we obtain 184 Shimura curves contained in the (ramified) Pry…
In this paper, we study double structures supported on rational normal curves. After recalling the general construction of double structures supported on a smooth curve described in \cite{fer}, we specialize it to double structures on rational normal curves. To every double structure we associate a triple of integers $ (2r,g,n) $ where $ r $ is the degree of the support, $ n \geq r $ is the dimension of the projective space containing the double curve, and $ g $ is the arithmetic genus of the double curve. We compute also some numerical invariants of the constructed curves, and we show that th…
Inside the moduli space of curves of genus 2 with 2 marked points we consider the loci of curves admitting a map to P^1 of degree d totally ramified over the two marked points, for d>= 2. Such loci have codimension two. We compute the class of their compactifications in the moduli space of stable curves. Several results will be deduced from this computation.
This paper describes how to compute equations of plane models of minimal Du Val double planes of general type with $p_g=q=1$ and $K^2=2,...,8.$ A double plane with $K^2=8$ having bicanonical map not composed with the associated involution is also constructed. The computations are done using the algebra system Magma.
If $X$ is a smooth curve such that the minimal degree of its plane models is not too small compared with its genus, then $X$ has been known to be a double cover of another smooth curve $Y$ under some mild condition on the genera. However there are no results yet for the minimal degrees of plane models of double covers except some special cases. In this paper, we give upper and lower bounds for the minimal degree of plane models of the double cover $X$ in terms of the gonality of the base curve $Y$ and the genera of $X$ and $Y$. In particular, the upper bound equals to the lower bound in case $…
We determine the distribution of Galois points for plane curves over a finite field of $q$ elements, which are Frobenius nonclassical for different powers of $q$. This family is an important class of plane curves with many remarkable properties. It contains the Dickson-Guralnick-Zieve curve, which has been recently studied by Giulietti, Korchmaros, and Timpanella from several points of view. A problem posed by the second author in the theory of Galois points is modified.
A real 2-elementary K3 surfaces of type ((3,1,1),- id) yields a real anti-bicanonical curve s \cup A^\prime_1 (disjoint union) on the 4-th real Hirzebruch surface F_4 where s is the exceptional section of F_4 and the real curve A^\prime_1 has one real double point. We give a criterion (see Proposition 2.4) which determines whether the real double point is degenerate or not. One direction of the assertion of this proposition has already been proved in Lemma 4.6 of the preceding paper [9] (2015) by the author. In this paper we prove the inverse direction.
Nonsingular plane curves over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ of degree $q+2$ passing through all the $\mathbb{F}_q$-points of the plane admita representation by $3\times 3$ matrices over $\mathbb{F}_q$. We classify their degenerations by means of the matrix representation, and also discuss the similar problem for the affine-plane filling curves of degree $q+1$.
We prove that a double cover of $\mathbb{P}^2$ ramified along a general smooth curve B of degree $2s$, for $s \geq 3$, supports a rank 2 special Ulrich bundle.
We compute the fundamental groups of five maximizing sextics with double singular points only; in four cases, the groups are as expected. The approach used would apply to other sextics as well, given their equations.
We collect various known results (about plane curves and the moduli space of stable maps) to derive new recursive formulas enumerating low genus plane curves of any degree with various behaviors. Recursive formulas are given for the characteristic numbers of rational plane curves, elliptic plane curves, and elliptic plane curves with fixed complex structure. Recursions are also given for the number of elliptic (and rational) plane curves with various "codimension 1" behavior (cuspidal, tacnodal, triple pointed, etc., as well as the geometric and arithmetic sectional genus of the Severi variety…
Let C be a general connected, smooth, projective curve of positive genus g. For each nonnegative integer i we give formulas for the number of pairs (P,Q) em C x C off the diagonal such that (g+i-1)Q-(i+1)P is linearly equivalent to an effective divisor, and the number of pairs (P,Q) em C x C off the diagonal such that (g+i+1)Q-(i+1)P is linearly equivalent to a moving effective divisor.
In this paper we study the automorphisms group of some $K3$ surfaces which are double covers of the projective plane ramified over a smooth sextic plane curve. More precisely, we study the case of a $K3$ surface of Picard rank two such that there is a rational curve of degree $d$ which is tangent to the sextic in $d$ points.
One describes those double structures on rational normal curves which are defined scheme theoretically by quadratic equations and have linear syzygies, generalizing this way the double line in the plane
We study cubic rational maps that take lines to plane curves. A complete description of such cubic rational maps concludes the classification of all planarizations, i.e., maps taking lines to plane curves.
The splitting number of a plane irreducible curve for a Galois cover is effective to distinguish the embedded topologies of plane curves. In this paper, we define a connected number of any plane curve for a Galois cover whose branch divisor has no common components with the plane curve, which is similar to the splitting number. We classify the embedded topology of Artal arrangements of degree $b\geq 4$ by the connected number, where an Artal arrangement of degree $b$ is a plane curve consisting of one smooth curve of dgree $b$ and three total inflectional tangents.
We study the classification of plane curve singularities in arbitrary characteristic. We first give a bound for the determinacy of a plane curve singularity with respect to pararametrization equivalence in terms of its conductor. Then we classify parametrization simple plane curve singularities which are irreducible by giving a concrete list of normal forms of equations and parametrizations. In characteristic zero, the classification of parametrization simple irreducible plane curve singularities was achieved by Bruce and Gaffney.
We study topological zeta functions of complex plane curve singularities using toric modifications and further developments. As applications of the research method, we prove that the topological zeta function is a topological invariant for complex plane curve singularities, we give a short and new proof of the monodromy conjecture for plane curves.
In a previous paper, we classified and constructed all rational plane curves of type (d,d-2). In this paper, we generalize these results to irreducible plane curves of type (d,d-2) with positive genus.
We introduce the notion of microlocal versal deformation of a plane curve. We construct equisingular versal deformations of Legendrian curves that are the conormal of a semi-quasi-homogeneous branch.
It is well known that the Gauss map for a complex plane curve is birational, whereas the Gauss map in positive characteristic is not always birational. Let $q$ be a power of a prime integer. We study a certain plane curve of degree $q^2+q+1$ for which the Gauss map is inseparable with inseparable degree $q$. As a special case, we show a relation between the dual curve of the Fermat curve of degree $q^2+q+1$ and the Ballico-Hefez curve.
Let F be a smooth surface in a smooth projective threefold T, and let X=2F be the first infinitesimal neighborhood of X in T. A locally Cohen-Macaulay curve C in X gives rise to two effective divisors on F, namely the curve part P of the intersection of C and F, and the curve R residual in C to this intersection. We show that a general deformation of R on F lifts to a deformation of C on X when a certain cohomology group vanishes. In our paper "Hilbert Schemes of Degree Four Curves" we use this result to prove the connectedness of the Hilbert schemes H(4,g) of locally Cohen-Macaulay space curv…
We prove that if two plane curve singularities are equisingular, then they are topologically equivalent. The method we will use is P.~Fortuny~Ayuso's who proved this result for irreducible plane curve singularities.
The author determines the structure of automorphism groups of smooth plane curves of degree at least four. Furthermore, he gives some upper bounds for the order of automorphism groups of smooth plane curves and classifies the cases with large automorphism groups. This paper also contains a simple proof of the uniqueness of smooth plane curves with the full automorphism group of maximal order for each degree.
Consider a smooth complex surface $X$ which is a double cover of the projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$ branched along a smooth curve of degree $2s$. In this article, we study the geometric conditions which are equivalent to the existence of Ulrich line bundles on $X$ with respect to this double covering. Also, for every $s\geq 1$, we describe the classes of such surfaces which admit Ulrich line bundles and give examples.
In this paper we consider the following problem: is it possible to recover a smooth plane curve of degree at least three from its inflection lines? We answer positively to the posed question for a general smooth plane quartic curve, making the additional assumption that also one inflection point is given, and for any smooth plane cubic curve.
In the article, we exhibit a series of new examples of rigid plane curves, that is, curves, whose collection of singularities determines them almost uniquely up to a projective transformation of the plane.
In the projective plane PG(2,q) over a finite field of order q, a Tallini curve is a plane irreducible (algebraic) curve of (minimum) degree q+2 containing all points of PG(2,q). Such curves were investigated by G. Tallini in 1961, and by Homma and Kim in 2013. Our results concern the automorphism groups, the Weierstrass semigroups, the Hasse-Witt invariants, and quotient curves of the Tallini curves.
In the study of hyperelliptic curve cryptography, presentations of semi-reduced divisors on a hyperelliptic curve play important roles. In this note, we give an interpretation for such presentations from view points of Gröbner bases. As applications, (i) we give a method to construct weak $n$-contact curves and (ii) we study plane curves satisfying quasi-toric relations of type $(2, n, 2)$
The aim of this paper is to compute the class of the closure of the effective divisor in M_{6,1} given by pointed curves [C,p] with a sextic plane model mapping p to a double point. Such a divisor generates an extremal ray in the pseudoeffective cone of M_{6,1} as shown by Jensen. A general result on some families of linear series with adjusted Brill-Noether number 0 or -1 is introduced to complete the computation.
Cyclic curves, i.e. curves fixed by a cyclic collineation group, play a central role in the investigation of cyclic arcs in Desarguesian projective planes. In this paper, the genus of a cyclic curve arising from a cyclic k-arc of Singer type is computed.
This note is an attempt to relate explicitly the geometric and algebraic properties of a space curve that is contained in some double plane. We show in particular that the minimal generators of the homogeneous ideal of such a curve can be written in a very specific form. As applications we characterize the possible Hartshorne-Rao modules of curves in a double plane and the minimal curves in their even Liaison classes.
In this paper we study noncommutative plane curves, i.e. non-commutative k-algebras for which the 1-dimensional simple modules form a plane curve. We study extensions of simple modules and we try to enlighten the completion problem, i.e. understanding the connection between simple modules of different dimension.
Double planes branched in 6 lines give a famous example of K3 surfaces. Their moduli are well understood and related to abelian fourfolds of Weil type. We compare these two moduli interpretations and in particular divisors on the moduli spaces. On the K3 side, this is achieved with the help of elliptic fibrations. We also study the Kuga-Satake correspondence on these special divisors.
Let $K$ be a number field and $O_K$ the ring of integers of $K$. In the spirit of Siegel's theorem on integral points on affine algebraic curves, the plane Jacobian conjecture over $K$ is equivalent to the following statement: if $P,Q\in O_K[x,y]$ and $P_xQ_y-P_yQ_x\equiv 1$, then the curve $P=0$ has more than one integral point.
