A new (in)finite dimensional algebra which is a fundamental dynamical symmetry of a large class of (continuum or lattice) quantum integrable models is introduced and studied in details. Finite dimensional representations are constructed and mutually commuting quantities - which ensure the integrability of the system - are written in terms of the fundamental generators of the new algebra. Relation with the deformed Dolan-Grady integrable structure recently discovered by one of the authors and Terwilliger's tridiagonal algebras is described. Remarkably, this (in)finite dimensional algebra is a ``$q-$deformed'' analogue of the original Onsager's algebra arising in the planar Ising model. Consequently, it provides a new and alternative algebraic framework for studying massive, as well as conformal, quantum integrable models.
An operator deformed quantum algebra is discovered exploiting the quantum Yang-Baxter equation with trigonometric R-matrix. This novel Hopf algebra along with its $q \to 1$ limit appear to be the most general Yang-Baxter algebra underlying quantum integrable systems. Three different directions of application of this algebra in integrable systems depending on different sets of values of deforming operators are identified. Fixed values on the whole lattice yield subalgebras linked to standard quantum integrable models, while the associated Lax operators generate and classify them in an unified w…
The standard generators of tridiagonal algebras, recently introduced by Terwilliger, are shown to generate a new (in)finite family of mutually commuting operators which extends the Dolan-Grady construction. The involution property relies on the tridiagonal algebraic structure associated with a deformation parameter $q$. Representations are shown to be generated from a class of quadratic algebras, namely the reflection equations. The spectral problem is briefly discussed. Finally, related massive quantum integrable models are shown to be superintegrable.
A method to construct both classical and quantum completely integrable systems from (Jordan-Lie) comodule algebras is introduced. Several integrable models based on a so(2,1) comodule algebra, two non-standard Schrodinger comodule algebras, the (classical and quantum) q-oscillator algebra and the Reflection Equation algebra are explicitly obtained.
We propose a new dynamical reflection algebra, distinct from the previous dynamical boundary algebra and semi-dynamical reflection algebra. The associated Yang-Baxter equations, coactions, fusions, and commuting traces are derived. Explicit examples are given and quantum integrable Hamiltonians are constructed. They exhibit features similar to the Ruijsenaars-Schneider Hamiltonians.
In previous work, we introduced a class of integrable spin Calogero-Moser systems associated with the classical dynamical r-matrices with spectral parameter, as classified by Etingof and Varchenko for simple Lie algebras. Here the main purpose is to establish the Liouville integrability of these systems by a uniform method.
We use deformations of Lie algebra homomorphisms to construct deformations of dispersionless integrable systems arising as symmetry reductions of anti--self--dual Yang--Mills equations with a gauge group Diff$(S^1)$.
A new class of integrable mappings and chains is introduced. Corresponding $(1+2)$ integrable systems invariant with respect to such discrete transformations are presented in an explicit form. Their soliton-type solutions are constructed in terms of matrix elements of fundamental representations of semisimple $A_n$ algebras for a given group element. The possibility of generalizing this construction to multi-dimensional case is discussed.
The three integrable two-dimensional Henon-Heiles systems and their integrable perturbations are revisited. A family of new integrable perturbations is found, and N-dimensional completely integrable generalizations of all these systems are constructed by making use of sl(2,R)+h(3) as their underlying Poisson symmetry algebra. In general, the procedure here introduced can be applied in order to obtain N-dimensional integrable generalizations of any 2D integrable potential of the form V(q_1^2, q_2), and the formalism gives the explicit form of all the integrals of the motion. Further application…
All exactly integrable systems connected with the semisimple algebras of the second rank with an arbitrary choice of the grading in them are presented in explicit form. General solution of such systems are expressed in terms of the matrix elements of two fundamental representations of corresponding semisimple groups.
It is shown that all 3-body quantal integrable systems that emerge in the Hamiltonian reduction method possess the same hidden algebraic structure. All of them are given by a second degree polynomial in generators of an infinite-dimensional Lie algebra of differential operators. It leads to new families of the orthogonal polynomials in two variables.
Motivated by the theory of Painlevé equations and associated hierarchies, we study non-autonomous Hamiltonian systems that are Frobenius integrable. We establish sufficient conditions under which a given finite-dimensional Lie algebra of Hamiltonian vector fields can be deformed to a time-dependent Lie algebra of Frobenius integrable vector fields spanning the same distribution as the original algebra. The results are applied to quasi-Stäckel systems.
We introduce the cluster algebraic formulation of the integrable difference equations, the discrete Lotka-Volterra equation and the discrete Liouville equation, from the view point of the general T-system and Y-system. We also study the Poisson structure for the cluster algebra, and give the associated Poisson bracket for the two difference equations.
We propose a generic framework to obtain certain types of contracted and centrally extended algebras. This is based on the existence of quadratic algebras (reflection algebras and twisted Yangians), naturally arising in the context of boundary integrable models. A quite old misconception regarding the "expansion" of the E_2 algebra into sl_2 is resolved using the representation theory of the aforementioned quadratic algebras. We also obtain centrally extended algebras associated to rational and trigonometric (q-deformed) R-matrices that are solutions of the Yang--Baxter equation.
We use the Dunkl operator approach to construct one dimensional integrable models describing N particles with internal degrees of freedom. These models are described by a general Hamiltonian belonging to the center of the Yangian or the reflection algebra, which ensures that they admit the corresponding symmetry. In particular, the open problem of the symmetry is answered for the B_N-type Sutherland model with spin and a generalized B_N-type nonlinear Schrodinger Hamiltonian.
Exactly integrable systems connected to semisimple algebras of second rank with an arbitrary choice of grading are presented in explicit form. General solutions of these systems are expressed in terms of matrix elements of two fundamental representations of the corresponding semisimple groups.
This paper is devoted to the construction of new integrable quantum mechanical models based on certain subalgebras of the half loop algebra of gl(N). Various results about these subalgebras are proven by presenting them in the notation of the St Petersburg school. These results are then used to demonstrate the integrability, and find the symmetries, of two types of physical system: twisted Gaudin magnets, and Calogero-type models of particles on several half-lines meeting at a point.
We consider a Lie algebra generalizing the Virasoro algebra to the case of two space variables. We study its coadjoint representation and calculate the corresponding Euler equations. In particular, we obtain a bi-Hamiltonian system that leads to an integrable non-linear partial differential equation. This equation is an analogue of the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili (of type B) equation.
The exactly integrable systems connected with semisimple series $A$ for arbitrary grading are presented in explicit form. Their general solutions are expressed in terms of the matrix elements of various fundamental representations of $A_n$ groups. The simplest example of such systems is the generalized Toda chain with the matrices of arbitrary dimensions in each point of the lattice.
Integrable discretisations for a class of coupled (super) nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) type of equations are presented. The class corresponds to a Lax operator with entries in a Grassmann algebra. Elementary Darboux transformations are constructed. As a result, Grassmann generalisations of the Toda lattice and the NLS dressing chain are obtained. The compatibility (Bianchi commutativity) of these Darboux transformations leads to integrable Grassmann generalisations of the difference Toda and NLS equations. The resulting systems will have discrete Lax representations provided by the set of two c…
These lectures were given in Session 1: "Vertex algebras, W-algebras, and applications" of INdAM Intensive research period "Perspectives in Lie Theory" at the Centro di Ricerca Matematica Ennio De Giorgi, Pisa, Italy, December 9, 2014 -- February 28, 2015.
We study integrable systems on double Lie algebras in absence of Ad-invariant bilinear form by passing to the semidirect product with the $τ$-representation. We show that in this stage a natural Ad-invariant bilinear form does exist, allowing for a straightforward application of the AKS theory, and giving rise to Manin triple structure, thus bringing the problem to the realm of Lie bialgebras and Poisson-Lie groups.
We prove that the description of pencils of compatible (N x N)-metrics of constant Riemannian curvature is equivalent to a special class of integrable N-parametric deformations of quasi-Frobenius (in general, noncommutative) algebras.
New variables of separation for few integrable systems on the two-dimensional sphere with higher order integrals of motion are considered in detail. We explicitly describe canonical transformations of initial physical variables to the variables of separation and vice versa, calculate the corresponding quadratures and discuss some possible integrable deformations of initial systems.
A common approach to the quantization of integrable models starts with the formal substitution of the Yang-Baxter Poisson algebra with its quantum version. However it is difficult to discern the presence of such an algebra for the so-called non-ultralocal models. The latter includes the class of non-linear sigma models which are most interesting from the point of view of applications. In this work, we investigate the emergence of the Yang-Baxter Poisson algebra in a non-ultralocal system which is related to integrable deformations of the Principal Chiral Field.
We classify all integrable triples in simple Lie algebras, up to equivalence. The importance of this problem stems from the fact that for each such equivalence class one can construct the corresponding integrable hierarchy of bi-Hamiltonian PDE. The simplest integrable triple $(f,0,e)$ in $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ corresponds to the KdV hierarchy, and the triple $(f,0,e_θ)$, where $f$ is the sum of negative simple root vectors and $e_θ$ is the highest root vector of a simple Lie algebra, corresponds to the Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy.
The rational quantum algebraically integrable systems are non-trivial generalizations of Laplacian operators to the case of elliptic operators with variable coefficients. We study corresponding extensions of Laplacian growth connected with algebraically integrable systems, describing viscous free-boundary flows in non-homogenous media. We introduce a class of planar flows related with application of Adler-Moser polynomials and construct solutions for higher-dimensional cases, where the conformal mapping technique is unavailable.
A tensorial approach to the theory of classical Hamiltonian integrable systems is proposed, based on the geometry of Haantjes tensors. We introduce the class of symplectic-Haantjes manifolds (or $ω\mathscr{H}$ manifolds), as a natural setting where the notion of integrability can be formulated. We prove that the existence of suitable Haantjes algebras of (1,1) tensor fields with vanishing Haantjes torsion is a necessary and sufficient condition for a Hamiltonian system to be integrable in the Liouville-Arnold sense. We also show that new integrable models arise from the Haantjes geometry. Fina…
We construct integrable and superintegrable Hamiltonian systems using the realizations of four dimensional real Lie algebras as a symmetry of the system with the phase space R4 and R6. Furthermore, we construct some integrable and superintegrable Hamiltonian systems for which the symmetry Lie group is also the phase space of the system.
This paper has been withdrawn by the authors. Because of a misunderstanding, the paper was submitted prematurely to the arXiv. A replacement will follow.
We prove that any classical affine W-algebra W(g,f), where g is a classical Lie algebra and f is an arbitrary nilpotent element of g, carries an integrable Hamiltonian hierarchy of Lax type equations. This is based on the theories of generalized Adler type operators and of generalized quasideterminants, which we develop in the paper. Moreover, we show that under certain conditions, the product of two generalized Adler type operators is a Lax type operator. We use this fact to construct a large number of integrable Hamiltonian systems, recovering, as a special case, all KdV type hierarchies con…
We introduce a deformation of the affine Hecke algebra of type GL which describes the commutation relations of the divided difference operators found by Lascoux and Schutzenberger and the multiplication operators. Making use of its representation we construct an integrable stochastic particle system. It is a generalization of the q-Boson system due to Sasamoto and Wadati. We also construct eigenfunctions of its generator using the propagation operator. As a result we get the same eigenfunctions for the (q, μ, ν)-Boson process obtained by Povolotsky.
We study certain extensions of the Adler map on Grassmann algebras $Γ(n)$ of order $n$. We consider a known Grassmann-extended Adler map, and assuming that $n=1$ we obtain a commutative extension of Adler's map in six dimensions. We show that the map satisfies the Yang--Baxter equation, admits three invariants and is Liouville integrable. We solve the map explicitly, viewed as a discrete dynamical system.
A new class of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras given a name of Lax operator algebras, and the related unifying approach to finite-dimensional integrable systems with spectral parameter on a Riemann surface, such as Calogero--Moser and Hitchin systems, are presented. In particular, our approach includes (the non-twisted) Kac--Moody algebras and integrable systems with rational spectral parameter. The presentation is based on the quite simple ideas related to gradings of semisimple Lie algebras, and their interaction with the Riemann--Roch theorem. The basic properties of the Lax operator alge…
A new class of integrable maps, obtained as lattice versions of polynomial dynamical systems is introduced. These systems are obtained by means of a discretization procedure that preserves several analytic and algebraic properties of a given differential equation, in particular symmetries and integrability [40]. Our approach is based on the properties of a suitable Galois differential algebra, that we shall call a Rota algebra. A formulation of the procedure in terms of category theory is proposed. In order to render the lattice dynamics confined, a Borel regularization is also adopted. As a b…
We study differential operators on an elliptic curve of order higher than 2 which are algebraically integrable (i.e., finite gap). We discuss classification of such operators of order 3 with one pole, discovering exotic operators on special elliptic curves defined over ${\mathbb Q}$ which do not deform to generic elliptic curves. We also study algebraically integrable operators of higher order with several poles and with symmetries, and (conjecturally) relate them to crystallographic elliptic Calogero-Moser systems (which is a generalization of the results of Airault, McKean, and Moser).
Several related operator-algebraic constructions for quantum field theory models on Minkowski spacetime are reviewed. The common theme of these constructions is that of a Borchers triple, capturing the structure of observables localized in a Rindler wedge. After reviewing the abstract setting, we discuss in this framework i) the construction of free field theories from standard pairs, ii) the inverse scattering construction of integrable QFT models on two-dimensional Minkowski space, and iii) the warped convolution deformation of QFT models in arbitrary dimension, inspired from non-commutative…
We apply the new method for constructing integrable Hamiltonian hierarchies of Lax type equations developed in our previous paper, to show that all W-algebras W(gl_N,f) carry such a hierarchy. As an application, we show that all vector constrained KP hierarchies and their matrix generalizations are obtained from these hierarchies by Dirac reduction, which provides the former with a bi-Poisson structure.
Dynamics of a quantum system can be described by coupled Heisenberg equations. In a generic many-body system these equations form an exponentially large hierarchy that is intractable without approximations. In contrast, in an integrable system a small subset of operators can be closed with respect to commutation with the Hamiltonian. As a result, the Heisenberg equations for these operators can form a smaller closed system amenable to an analytical treatment. We demonstrate that this indeed happens in a class of integrable models where the Hamiltonian is an element of the Onsager algebra. We e…
