The standard generators of tridiagonal algebras, recently introduced by Terwilliger, are shown to generate a new (in)finite family of mutually commuting operators which extends the Dolan-Grady construction. The involution property relies on the tridiagonal algebraic structure associated with a deformation parameter $q$. Representations are shown to be generated from a class of quadratic algebras, namely the reflection equations. The spectral problem is briefly discussed. Finally, related massive quantum integrable models are shown to be superintegrable.
A construction is given of the most general representations of the q-oscillator algebra where both generators are tridiagonal. It is shown to be connected to the Askey-Wilson polynomials.
A family of tridiagonal pairs which appear in the context of quantum integrable systems is studied in details. The corresponding eigenvalue sequences, eigenspaces and the block tridiagonal structure of their matrix realizations with respect the dual eigenbasis are described. The overlap functions between the two dual basis are shown to satisfy a coupled system of recurrence relations and a set of discrete second-order $q-$difference equations which generalize the ones associated with the Askey-Wilson orthogonal polynomials with a discrete argument. Normalizing the fundamental solution to unity…
The concept of cyclic tridiagonal pairs is introduced, and explicit examples are given. For a fairly general class of cyclic tridiagonal pairs with cyclicity N, we associate a pair of `divided polynomials'. The properties of this pair generalize the ones of tridiagonal pairs of Racah type. The algebra generated by the pair of divided polynomials is identified as a higher-order generalization of the Onsager algebra. It can be viewed as a subalgebra of the q-Onsager algebra for a proper specialization at q the primitive 2Nth root of unity. Orthogonal polynomials beyond the Leonard duality are re…
We study the boundary symmetries of models of nonequilibrium physics where the steady state behaviour strongly depends on the boundary rates. Within the matrix product state approach to many-body systems the physics is described in terms of matrices defining a noncommutative space with a quantum group symmetry. Boundary processes lead to a reduction of the bulk symmetry. We argue that the boundary operators of an interacting system with simple exclusion generate a tridiagonal algebra whose irreducible representations are expressed in terms of the Askey-Wilson polynomials. We show that the boun…
It is shown that the tridiagonalization of the hypergeometric operator $L$ yields the generic Heun operator $M$. The algebra generated by the operators $L,M$ and $Z=[L,M]$ is quadratic and a one-parameter generalization of the Racah algebra. The new Racah-Heun orthogonal polynomials are introduced as overlap coefficients between the eigenfunctions of the operators $L$ and $M$. An interpretation in terms of the Racah problem for $su(1,1)$ algebras and separation of variables in a superintegrable system are discussed.
A new (in)finite dimensional algebra which is a fundamental dynamical symmetry of a large class of (continuum or lattice) quantum integrable models is introduced and studied in details. Finite dimensional representations are constructed and mutually commuting quantities - which ensure the integrability of the system - are written in terms of the fundamental generators of the new algebra. Relation with the deformed Dolan-Grady integrable structure recently discovered by one of the authors and Terwilliger's tridiagonal algebras is described. Remarkably, this (in)finite dimensional algebra is a `…
We use the "tridiagonal representation approach" to solve the time-independent Schrödinger equation for bound states in a basis set of finite size. We obtain two classes of solutions written as finite series of square integrable functions that support a tridiagonal matrix representation of the wave operator. The differential wave equation becomes an algebraic three-term recursion relation for the expansion coefficients of the series, which is solved in terms of finite polynomials in the energy and/or potential parameters. These orthogonal polynomials contain all physical information about the …
In this thesis, the connection between recently introduced algebraic structures (tridiagonal algebra, $q$-Onsager algebra, generalized $q-$Onsager algebras), related representation theory (tridiagonal pair, Leonard pair, orthogonal polynomials), some properties of these algebras and the analysis of related quantum integrable models on the lattice (the $XXZ$ open spin chain at roots of unity) is first reviewed. Then, the main results of the thesis are described: (i) for the class of $q-$Onsager algebras associated with $\widehat{sl_2}$ and ADE type simply-laced affine Lie algebras, higher order…
We define an algebra on two generators which we call the Tridiagonal algebra, and we consider its irreducible modules. The algebra is defined as follows. Let K denote a field, and let $β, γ, γ^*, \varrho, \varrho^*$ denote a sequence of scalars taken from K. The corresponding Tridiagonal algebra $T$ is the associative K-algebra with 1 generated by two symbols $A$, $A^*$ subject to the relations (i) \lbrack A,A^2A^*-βAA^*A + A^*A^2 -γ(AA^*+A^*A)- \varrho A^*\rbrack = 0, (ii) \lbrack A^*,A^{*2}A-βA^*AA^* + AA^{*2} -γ^* (A^*A+AA^*)- \varrho^* A\rbrack = 0, where $\lbrack r,s\rbrack $ means $rs-sr…
An operator deformed quantum algebra is discovered exploiting the quantum Yang-Baxter equation with trigonometric R-matrix. This novel Hopf algebra along with its $q \to 1$ limit appear to be the most general Yang-Baxter algebra underlying quantum integrable systems. Three different directions of application of this algebra in integrable systems depending on different sets of values of deforming operators are identified. Fixed values on the whole lattice yield subalgebras linked to standard quantum integrable models, while the associated Lax operators generate and classify them in an unified w…
For the class of quantum integrable models generated from the $q-$Onsager algebra, a basis of bispectral multivariable $q-$orthogonal polynomials is exhibited. In a first part, it is shown that the multivariable Askey-Wilson polynomials with $N$ variables and $N+3$ parameters introduced by Gasper and Rahman [1] generate a family of infinite dimensional modules for the $q-$Onsager algebra, whose fundamental generators are realized in terms of the multivariable $q-$difference and difference operators proposed by Iliev [2]. Raising and lowering operators extending those of Sahi [3] are also const…
We propose a new dynamical reflection algebra, distinct from the previous dynamical boundary algebra and semi-dynamical reflection algebra. The associated Yang-Baxter equations, coactions, fusions, and commuting traces are derived. Explicit examples are given and quantum integrable Hamiltonians are constructed. They exhibit features similar to the Ruijsenaars-Schneider Hamiltonians.
In previous work, we introduced a class of integrable spin Calogero-Moser systems associated with the classical dynamical r-matrices with spectral parameter, as classified by Etingof and Varchenko for simple Lie algebras. Here the main purpose is to establish the Liouville integrability of these systems by a uniform method.
A method to construct both classical and quantum completely integrable systems from (Jordan-Lie) comodule algebras is introduced. Several integrable models based on a so(2,1) comodule algebra, two non-standard Schrodinger comodule algebras, the (classical and quantum) q-oscillator algebra and the Reflection Equation algebra are explicitly obtained.
We use deformations of Lie algebra homomorphisms to construct deformations of dispersionless integrable systems arising as symmetry reductions of anti--self--dual Yang--Mills equations with a gauge group Diff$(S^1)$.
A new class of integrable mappings and chains is introduced. Corresponding $(1+2)$ integrable systems invariant with respect to such discrete transformations are presented in an explicit form. Their soliton-type solutions are constructed in terms of matrix elements of fundamental representations of semisimple $A_n$ algebras for a given group element. The possibility of generalizing this construction to multi-dimensional case is discussed.
The three integrable two-dimensional Henon-Heiles systems and their integrable perturbations are revisited. A family of new integrable perturbations is found, and N-dimensional completely integrable generalizations of all these systems are constructed by making use of sl(2,R)+h(3) as their underlying Poisson symmetry algebra. In general, the procedure here introduced can be applied in order to obtain N-dimensional integrable generalizations of any 2D integrable potential of the form V(q_1^2, q_2), and the formalism gives the explicit form of all the integrals of the motion. Further application…
All exactly integrable systems connected with the semisimple algebras of the second rank with an arbitrary choice of the grading in them are presented in explicit form. General solution of such systems are expressed in terms of the matrix elements of two fundamental representations of corresponding semisimple groups.
Motivated by the theory of Painlevé equations and associated hierarchies, we study non-autonomous Hamiltonian systems that are Frobenius integrable. We establish sufficient conditions under which a given finite-dimensional Lie algebra of Hamiltonian vector fields can be deformed to a time-dependent Lie algebra of Frobenius integrable vector fields spanning the same distribution as the original algebra. The results are applied to quasi-Stäckel systems.
We introduce the cluster algebraic formulation of the integrable difference equations, the discrete Lotka-Volterra equation and the discrete Liouville equation, from the view point of the general T-system and Y-system. We also study the Poisson structure for the cluster algebra, and give the associated Poisson bracket for the two difference equations.
Exactly integrable systems connected to semisimple algebras of second rank with an arbitrary choice of grading are presented in explicit form. General solutions of these systems are expressed in terms of matrix elements of two fundamental representations of the corresponding semisimple groups.
We consider a Lie algebra generalizing the Virasoro algebra to the case of two space variables. We study its coadjoint representation and calculate the corresponding Euler equations. In particular, we obtain a bi-Hamiltonian system that leads to an integrable non-linear partial differential equation. This equation is an analogue of the Kadomtsev--Petviashvili (of type B) equation.
We prove that the description of pencils of compatible (N x N)-metrics of constant Riemannian curvature is equivalent to a special class of integrable N-parametric deformations of quasi-Frobenius (in general, noncommutative) algebras.
These lectures were given in Session 1: "Vertex algebras, W-algebras, and applications" of INdAM Intensive research period "Perspectives in Lie Theory" at the Centro di Ricerca Matematica Ennio De Giorgi, Pisa, Italy, December 9, 2014 -- February 28, 2015.
We classify all integrable triples in simple Lie algebras, up to equivalence. The importance of this problem stems from the fact that for each such equivalence class one can construct the corresponding integrable hierarchy of bi-Hamiltonian PDE. The simplest integrable triple $(f,0,e)$ in $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ corresponds to the KdV hierarchy, and the triple $(f,0,e_θ)$, where $f$ is the sum of negative simple root vectors and $e_θ$ is the highest root vector of a simple Lie algebra, corresponds to the Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy.
We apply a reduction to the Beauville systems to obtain a family of new algebraic completely integrable systems, related to curves with a cyclic automorphism.
We prove that any classical affine W-algebra W(g,f), where g is a classical Lie algebra and f is an arbitrary nilpotent element of g, carries an integrable Hamiltonian hierarchy of Lax type equations. This is based on the theories of generalized Adler type operators and of generalized quasideterminants, which we develop in the paper. Moreover, we show that under certain conditions, the product of two generalized Adler type operators is a Lax type operator. We use this fact to construct a large number of integrable Hamiltonian systems, recovering, as a special case, all KdV type hierarchies con…
We construct integrable and superintegrable Hamiltonian systems using the realizations of four dimensional real Lie algebras as a symmetry of the system with the phase space R4 and R6. Furthermore, we construct some integrable and superintegrable Hamiltonian systems for which the symmetry Lie group is also the phase space of the system.
This paper has been withdrawn by the authors. Because of a misunderstanding, the paper was submitted prematurely to the arXiv. A replacement will follow.
A new class of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras given a name of Lax operator algebras, and the related unifying approach to finite-dimensional integrable systems with spectral parameter on a Riemann surface, such as Calogero--Moser and Hitchin systems, are presented. In particular, our approach includes (the non-twisted) Kac--Moody algebras and integrable systems with rational spectral parameter. The presentation is based on the quite simple ideas related to gradings of semisimple Lie algebras, and their interaction with the Riemann--Roch theorem. The basic properties of the Lax operator alge…
