Let $V\subseteq A$ be a conformal inclusion of vertex operator algebras and let $\mathcal{C}$ be a category of grading-restricted generalized $V$-modules that admits the vertex algebraic braided tensor category structure of Huang-Lepowsky-Zhang. We give conditions under which $\mathcal{C}$ inherits semisimplicity from the category of grading-restricted generalized $A$-modules in $\mathcal{C}$, and vice versa. The most important condition is that $A$ be a rigid $V$-module in $\mathcal{C}$ with non-zero categorical dimension, that is, we assume the index of $V$ as a subalgebra of $A$ is finite and non-zero. As a consequence, we show that if $A$ is strongly rational, then $V$ is also strongly rational under the following conditions: $A$ contains $V$ as a $V$-module direct summand, $V$ is $C_2$-cofinite with a rigid tensor category of modules, and $A$ has non-zero categorical dimension as a $V$-module. These results are vertex operator algebra interpretations of theorems proved for general commutative algebras in braided tensor categories. We also generalize these results to the case that $A$ is a vertex operator superalgebra.
We exhibit a correspondence between subcategories of modules over an algebra and sub-bimodules of the dual of that algebra. We then prove that the semisimplicity of certain such categories is equivalent to the existence of a Peter-Weyl decomposition of the corresponding sub-bimodule. Finally, we use this technique to establish the semisimplicity of certain finite-dimensional representations of the quantum double of sl_2 for generic q.
We study Karoubian tensor categories which interpolate representation categories of families of so-called easy quantum groups in the same sense in which Deligne's interpolation categories $\mathrm{\underline{Rep}}(S_t)$ interpolate the representation categories of the symmetric groups. As such categories can be described using a graphical calculus of partitions, we call them interpolating partition categories. They include $\mathrm{\underline{Rep}}(S_t)$ as a special case and can generally be viewed as subcategories of the latter. Focusing on semisimplicity and descriptions of the indecomposab…
Vladimir Turaev discovered in the early years of quantum topology that the notion of modular category was an appropriate structure for building 3-dimensional Topological Quantum Field Theories (TQFTs for short) containing invariants of links in 3-manifolds such as Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev ones. In recent years, generalized notions of modular categories, which relax the semisimplicity requirement, have been successfully used to extend Turaev's construction to various non-semisimple settings. We report on these recent developments in the domain, showing the richness of Vladimir's lineage.
Let λbe a partition of a positive integer n. Let C be a symmetric rigid tensor category over a field k of characteristic 0 or char(k)>n, and let V be an object of C. In our main result (Theorem 4.3) we introduce a finite set of integers F(λ) and prove that if the Schur functor \mathbb{S}_λ V of V is semisimple and the dimension of V is not in F(λ), then V is semisimple. Moreover, we prove that for each d in F(λ) there exist a symmetric rigid tensor category C over k and a non-semisimple object V in C of dimension d such that \mathbb{S}_λ V is semisimple (which shows that our result is the best…
We show that there is a braided tensor category structure on the category of $C_1$-cofinite modules for the (universal or simple) Virasoro vertex operator algebras of arbitrary central charge. In the generic case of central charge $c=13-6(t+t^{-1})$, with $t \notin \mathbb{Q}$, we prove semisimplicity, rigidity and non-degeneracy and also compute the fusion rules of this tensor category.
We introduce and study Hopf monads on autonomous categories (i.e., monoidal categories with duals). Hopf monads generalize Hopf algebras to a non-braided (and non-linear) setting. Indeed, any monoidal adjunction between autonomous categories gives rise to a Hopf monad. We extend many fundamental results of the theory of Hopf algebras (such as the decomposition of Hopf modules, the existence of integrals, Maschke's criterium of semisimplicity, etc...) to Hopf monads. We also introduce and study quasitriangular and ribbon Hopf monads (again defined in a non-braided setting).
We develop a general approach to the problem of classification of weak coideal C*-subalgebras of weak Hopf C*-algebras. As an example, we consider weak Hopf C*-algebras and their weak coideal C*-subalgebras associated with Tambara Yamagami categories.
Representations of algebraic quantum groups and reconstruction theorems for tensor categories
L. Woronowicz和S.
Study of the quotient module of a finite-dimensional Hopf subalgebra pair in order to compute its depth yields a relative Maschke Theorem, in which semisimple extension is characterized as being separable, and is therefore an ordinary Frobenius extension. We study the core Hopf ideal of a Hopf subalgebra, noting that the length of the annihilator chain of tensor powers of the quotient module is linearly related to the depth, if the Hopf algebra is semisimple. A tensor categorical definition of depth is introduced, and a summary from this new point of view of previous results are included. It i…
It is well known that braided monoidal categories are the categorical algebras of the little two-dimensional disks operad. We introduce involutive little disks operads, which are Z/2Z-orbifold versions of the little disks operads. We classify their categorical algebras and describe these explicitly in terms of a finite list of functors, natural isomorphisms and coherence equations. In dimension two, the categorical algebras are braided monoidal categories with an anti-involution together with a pointed module category carrying a universal solution to the (twisted) reflection equation. Main exa…
We develop the general theory for the construction of Extended Topological Quantum Field Theories (ETQFTs) associated with the Costantino-Geer-Patureau quantum invariants of closed 3-manifolds. In order to do so, we introduce relative modular categories, a class of ribbon categories which are modeled on representations of unrolled quantum groups, and which can be thought of as a non-semisimple analogue to modular categories. Our approach exploits a 2-categorical version of the universal construction introduced by Blanchet, Habegger, Masbaum, and Vogel. The 1+1+1-EQFTs thus obtained are realize…
In this paper we give an alternative construction of a certain class of Deformed Double Current Algebras. These algebras are deformations of $U({\rm End}(\Bbbk^r)[x,y])$ and they were initially defined and studied by N.Guay in his papers. Here we construct them as algebras of endomorphisms in Deligne category. We do this by taking an ultraproduct of spherical subalgebras of the extended Cherednik algebras of finite rank.
We present explicit mathematical structures that allow for the reconstruction of the field content of a full local conformal field theory from its boundary fields. Our framework is the one of modular tensor categories, without requiring semisimplicity, and thus covers in particular finite rigid logarithmic conformal field theories. We assume that the boundary data are described by a pivotal module category over the modular tensor category, which ensures that the algebras of boundary fields are Frobenius algebras. Bulk fields and, more generally, defect fields inserted on defect lines, are give…
We characterize braided commutative Yetter-Drinfeld $C^*$-algebras over weak Hopf $C^*$-algebras in categorical terms. Using this, we then study quotient type coideal subalgebras of a given weak Hopf $C^*$-algebra $\mathcal G$ and coideal subalgebras invariant with respect to the adjoint action of $\mathcal G$. Finally, as an example, we explicitly describe quotient type coideal subalgebras of the weak Hopf $C^*$-algebras associated with Tambara-Yamagami categories.
Let g be a symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebra and U_h(g) its quantized enveloping algebra. The quantum Weyl group operators of U_h(g) and the universal R-matrices of its Levi subalgebras endow U_h(g) with a natural quasi-Coxeter quasitriangular quasibialgebra structure which underlies the action of the braid group of g and Artin's braid groups on the tensor product of integrable, category O modules. We show that this structure can be transferred to the universal enveloping algebra Ug[[h]]. The proof relies on a modification of the Etingof-Kazhdan quantization functor, and yields an isomorphism be…
We define and systematically study nonassociative C*-algebras as C*-algebras internal to a topological tensor category. We also offer a concrete approach to these C*-algebras, as G-invariant, norm closed *-subalgebras of bounded operators on a G-Hilbert space, with deformed composition product. Our central results are those of stabilization and Takai duality for (twisted) crossed products in this context.
In the present paper we show that Hall algebras of finitary exact categories behave like quantum groups in the sense that they are generated by indecomposable objects. Moreover, for a large class of such categories, Hall algebras are generated by their primitive elements, with respect to the natural comultiplication, even for non-hereditary categories. Finally, we introduce certain primitively generated subalgebras of Hall algebras and conjecture an analogue of "Lie correspondence" for those finitary categories.
We construct a new class of finite-dimensional C^*-quantum groupoids at roots of unity q=e^{iπ/\ell}, with limit the discrete dual of the classical SU(N) for large orders. The representation category of our groupoid turns out to be tensor equivalent to the well known quotient C^*-category of the category of tilting modules of the non-semisimple quantum group U_q({\mathfrak sl}_N) of Drinfeld, Jimbo and Lusztig. As an algebra, the C^*-groupoid is a quotient of U_q({\mathfrak sl}_N). As a coalgebra, it naturally reflects the categorical quotient construction. In particular, it is not coassociati…
The incidence category $\C_{\F}$ of a family $\F$ of colored posets closed under disjoint unions and the operation of taking convex sub-posets was introduced by the author in \cite{Sz}, where the Ringel-Hall algebra $\H_{\F}$ of $\C_{\F}$ was also defined. We show that if the Hasse diagrams underlying $\F$ are rooted trees, then the subspace $\n_{\F}$ of primitive elements of $\H_{\F}$ carries a pre-Lie structure, defined over $\mathbb{Z}$, and with positive structure constants. We give several examples of $\n_{\F}$, including the nilpotent subalgebras of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$, $L \mathfrak{gl}_n$…
In [19], Zheng studied the bounded derived categories of constructible $\bar{\mathbb{Q}}_l$-sheaves on some algebraic stacks consisting of the representations of a enlarged quiver and categorified the integrable highest weight modules of the corresponding quantum group by using these categories. In this paper, we shall generalize Zheng's work to highest weight modules of a subalgebra of the double Ringel-Hall algebra associated to a quiver in a functional version.
Let $Λ_Q$ be the preprojective algebra of a finite acyclic quiver $Q$ of non-Dynkin type and $D^b(\mathrm{rep}^n Λ_Q)$ be the bounded derived category of finite dimensional nilpotent $Λ_Q$-modules. We define spherical twist functors over the root category $\mathcal{R}_{Λ_Q}$ of $D^b(\mathrm{rep}^n Λ_Q)$ and then realize the Weyl group associated to $Q$ as certain subquotient of the automorphism group of the Ringel-Hall Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}(\mathcal{R}_{Λ_Q})$ of $\mathcal{R}_{Λ_Q}$ induced by spherical twist functors. We also present a conjectural relation between certain Lie subalgebras …
A two-dimensional chiral conformal field theory can be viewed mathematically as the representation theory of its chiral algebra, a vertex operator algebra. Vertex operator algebras are especially well suited for studying logarithmic conformal field theory (in which correlation functions have logarithmic singularities arising from non-semisimple modules for the chiral algebra) because of the logarithmic tensor category theory of Huang, Lepowsky, and Zhang. In this paper, we study not-necessarily-semisimple or rigid braided tensor categories $\mathcal{C}$ of modules for the fixed-point vertex op…
Let $V=\C^N$ with $N$ odd. We construct a $q$-deformation of $\End_{Sp(N-1)}(V^{\otimes n})$ which contains $\End_{U_q\sl_N}(V^{\otimes n})$. It is a quotient of an abstract two-variable algebra which is defined by adding one more generator to the generators of the Hecke algebras $H_n$. These results suggest the existence of module categories of $Rep(U_q\sl_N)$ which may not come from already known coideal subalgebras of $U_q\sl_N$. We moreover indicate how this can be used to construct module categories of the associated fusion tensor categories as well as subfactors, along the lines of previ…
We study the representation theory of the Kazama-Suzuki coset vertex operator superalgebra associated with the pair of a complex simple Lie algebra and its Cartan subalgebra. In the case of type $A_{1}$, B.L. Feigin, A.M. Semikhatov, and I.Yu. Tipunin introduced another coset construction, which is "inverse" of the Kazama-Suzuki coset construction. In this paper we generalize the latter coset construction to arbitrary type and establish a categorical equivalence between the categories of certain modules over an affine vertex operator algebra and the corresponding Kazama-Suzuki coset vertex ope…
Finite Temperley-Lieb (TL) algebras are diagram-algebra quotients of (the group algebra of) the famous Artin's braid group $B_N$, while the affine TL algebras arise as diagram algebras from a generalized version of the braid group. We study asymptotic `$N\to\infty$' representation theory of these quotients (parametrized by $q\in\mathbb{C}^{\times}$) from a perspective of braided monoidal categories. Using certain idempotent subalgebras in the finite and affine algebras, we construct infinite `arc' towers of the diagram algebras and the corresponding direct system of representation categories, …
We define a new $q$-deformation of Brauer's centralizer algebra which contains Hecke algebras of type $A$ as unital subalgebras. We determine its generic structure as well as the structure of certain semisimple quotients. This is expected to have applications for constructions of subfactors of type II$_1$ factors and for module categories of fusion categories of type $A$ corresponding to certain symmetric spaces.

Let ${\mathfrak g}$ be a finite dimensional complex semisimple Lie algebra. The finite dimensional representations of the quantized enveloping algebra $U_q({\mathfrak g})$ form a braided monoidal category $O_{int}$. We show that the category of finite dimensional representations of a quantum symmetric pair coideal subalgebra $B_{c,s}$ of $U_q({\mathfrak g})$ is a braided module category over an equivariantization of $O_{int}$. The braiding for $B_{c,s}$ is realized by a universal K-matrix which lies in a completion of $B_{c,s}\otimes U_q({\mathfrak g})$. We apply these results to describe a di…
We categorify a coideal subalgebra of the quantum group of $\mathfrak{sl}_{2r+1}$ by introducing a $2$-category à la Khovanov-Lauda-Rouquier, and show that self-dual indecomposable $1$-morphisms categorify the canonical basis of this algebra. This allows us to define a categorical action of this coideal algebra on the categories of modules over cohomology rings of partial flag varieties and on the BGG category $\mathcal{O}$ of type B/C.
The purpose of this work is to illustrate in a family of interesting examples how to study the representation theory of vertex operator superalgebras by combining the theory of vertex algebra extensions and modular forms. Let $L_k\left(\mathfrak{osp}(1 | 2)\right)$ be the simple affine vertex operator superalgebra of $\mathfrak{osp}(1|2)$ at an admissible level $k$. We use a Jacobi form decomposition to see that this is a vertex operator superalgebra extension of $L_k(\mathfrak{sl}_2)\otimes \text{Vir}(p, (p+p')/2)$ where $k+3/2=p/(2p')$ and $\text{Vir}(u, v)$ denotes the regular Virasoro vert…
We define a quantum version of Hamiltonian reduction by stages, producing a construction in type A for a quantum Hamiltonian reduction from the W-algebra $U(\mathfrak{g},e_1)$ to an algebra conjecturally isomorphic to $U(\mathfrak{g},e_2)$, whenever $e_2 \ge e_1$ in the dominance ordering. This isomorphism is shown to hold whenever $e_1$ is subregular, and in $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ for all $n \le 4$. We next define embeddings of various categories $\mathcal{O}$ for the W-algebras associated to $e_1$ and $e_2$, amongst them the embeddings $\mathcal{O}(e_2,\mathfrak{p}) \hookrightarrow \mathcal{O}(e_…
We study properties of the category of modules of an algebra object A in a tensor category C. We show that the module category inherits various structures from C, provided that A is a Frobenius algebra with certain additional properties. As a by-product we obtain results about the Frobenius-Schur indicator in sovereign tensor categories. A braiding on C is not needed, nor is semisimplicity. We apply our results to the description of boundary conditions in two-dimensional conformal field theory and present illustrative examples. We show that when the module category is tensor, then it gives ris…
