In this study, the higher-order tensor renormalization group (HOTRG) method is applied to a lattice glass model that has local constraints on the occupation number of neighboring particles represented by many-body interactions. This model exhibits first- and second-order transitions depending on a certain model parameter. The results obtained by using the HOTRG method for the model were confirmed to be consistent with those obtained by a Markov-chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method for systems of relatively small sizes. The transition points are accurately estimated by the HOTRG calculation for the systems of large sizes, which is challenging to perform using the MCMC method. These results demonstrate that the HOTRG method can be an efficient method for studying systems with many-body interactions.
The nature of the different zero-temperature phases in discrete two-dimensional spin glasses: Entropy, universality, chaos and cascades in the renormalization group flow
While in the fully-connected limit the solution of the spin-glass model is known, with the existence of a complex transition on a critical line in the temperature-external field phase diagram, in finite dimensions we don't know if a transition is present or not and, if present, if its nature is the same as the one in infinite dimensions. This work contains a review of the real-space Renormalization Group methods that have been applied to Spin Glasses, highlighting both their point of strength and weakness in characterizing the finite dimensional behaviour of the model.
In the paper [Angelini M C, Parisi G, and Ricci-Tersenghi F, Ensemble renormalization group for disordered systems, Phys. Rev. B 87 134201 (2013)] we introduced a real-space renormalization group called Ensemble Renormalization Group (ERG) and we applied it to the Edwards-Anderson model, obtaining estimates for the critical exponents in good agreement with those from Monte Carlo simulations. Recently the paper [Castellana M, Real-space renormalization-group methods for hierarchical spin glasses, J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 52 445002 (2019)] re-examined the ERG method from a different perspective,…
A calculation method for higher-order moments of physical quantities, including magnetization and energy, based on the higher-order tensor renormalization group is proposed. The physical observables are represented by impurity tensors. A systematic summation scheme provides coarse-grained tensors including multiple impurities. Our method is compared with the Monte Carlo method on the two-dimensional Potts model. While the nature of the transition of the $q$-state Potts model has been known for a long time owing to the analytical arguments, a clear numerical confirmation has been difficult due …

Phase transitions of the $J_1$-$J_2$ Ising model on a square lattice are studied using the higher-order tensor renormalization group(HOTRG) method. This system involves a competition between the ferromagnetic interaction $J_1$ and antiferromagnetic interaction $J_2$. Furthermore, weak first-order and second-order transitions are observed near the ratio $g=J_2/|J_1|=1/2$. Our results (based on HOTRG calculations for significantly larger sizes) indicate that the region of the first-order transition is marginally narrower than that in previous studies. Moreover, the universality class of the seco…
We focus on two real-space renormalization-group (RG) methods recently proposed for a hierarchical model of a spin glass: A sample-by-sample method, in which the RG transformation is performed separately on each disorder sample, and an ensemble RG (ERG) method [M. C. Angelini, G. Parisi, and F. Ricci-Tersenghi. Ensemble renormalization group for disordered systems. $\textit{Phys. Rev. B}$, 87(13):134201, 2013] in which the transformation is based on an average over samples. Above the upper critical dimension, the sample-by-sample method yields the correct mean-field value for the critical expo…
The higher-order tensor renormalization group is a tensor-network method providing estimates for the partition function and thermodynamical observables of classical and quantum systems in thermal equilibrium. At every step of the iterative blocking procedure, the coarse-grid tensor is truncated to keep the tensor dimension under control. For a consistent tensor blocking procedure, it is crucial that the forward and backward tensor modes are projected on the same lower dimensional subspaces. In this paper we present two methods, the SuperQ and the iterative SuperQ method, to construct tensor tr…
A tensor network renormalization algorithm with global optimization based on the corner transfer matrix is proposed. Since the environment is updated by the corner transfer matrix renormalization group method, the forward-backward iteration is unnecessary, which is a time-consuming part of other methods with global optimization. In addition, a further approximation reducing the order of the computational cost of contraction for the calculation of the coarse-grained tensor is proposed. The computational time of our algorithm in two dimensions scales as the sixth power of the bond dimension whil…
We devise a deterministic algorithm to efficiently sample high-quality solutions of certain spin-glass systems that encode hard optimization problems. We employ tensor networks to represent the Gibbs distribution of all possible configurations. Using approximate tensor-network contractions, we are able to efficiently map the low-energy spectrum of some quasi-two-dimensional Hamiltonians. We exploit the local nature of the problems to compute spin-glass droplets geometries, which provides a new form of compression of the low-energy spectrum. It naturally extends to sampling, which otherwise, fo…
We develop the tensor renormalization group (TRG) algorithm for statistical systems with open boundaries, which allows us to investigate not only the bulk but also the boundary property, such as the surface magnetization. We demonstrate that the tensors representing the boundary in our algorithm exhibit the fixed point structures just as bulk tensors in previous TRG algorithms. At criticality, the scale-invariant boundary fixed point tensors have the information of the conformal tower, which is described by the underlying boundary conformal field theory.
We propose an improved tensor renormalization group (TRG) algorithm, the bond-weighted TRG (BTRG). In BTRG, we generalize the conventional TRG by introducing bond weights on the edges of the tensor network. We show that BTRG outperforms the conventional TRG and the higher-order tensor renormalization group with the same bond dimension, while its computation time is almost the same as that of TRG. Furthermore, BTRG can have non-trivial fixed-point tensors at an optimal hyperparameter. We demonstrate that the singular value spectrum obtained by BTRG is invariant under the renormalization procedu…
Cusps and shocks in the renormalized potential of glassy random manifolds: How Functional Renormalization Group and Replica Symmetry Breaking fit together
We study the $q$-state Potts models on a cubic lattice in the thermodynamic limit using tensor renormalization group transformations with the triad approximation. By computing the thermodynamic potentials, we locate the first-order phase transitions for $10 < q \le 20$ which has not been explored using any method. We also examine the efficiency of the triad approximation method in obtaining the fixed-point tensor and comment on how this can be improved.
We propose a new tensor renormalization group algorithm, Anisotropic Tensor Renormalization Group (ATRG), for lattice models in arbitrary dimensions. The proposed method shares the same versatility with the Higher-Order Tensor Renormalization Group (HOTRG) algorithm, i.e., it preserves the lattice topology after the renormalization. In comparison with HOTRG, both of the computation cost and the memory footprint of our method are drastically reduced, especially in higher dimensions, by renormalizing tensors in an anisotropic way after the singular value decomposition. We demonstrate the ability…
An algorithm of the tensor renormalization group is proposed based on a randomized algorithm for singular value decomposition. Our algorithm is applicable to a broad range of two-dimensional classical models. In the case of a square lattice, its computational complexity and memory usage are proportional to the fifth and the third power of the bond dimension, respectively, whereas those of the conventional implementation are of the sixth and the fourth power. The oversampling parameter larger than the bond dimension is sufficient to reproduce the same result as full singular value decomposition…
We investigate the critical endpoints of the (3+1)-dimensional $Z_2$ gauge-Higgs model at finite density together with the (2+1)-dimensional one at zero density as a benchmark using the tensor renormalization group method. We focus on the phase transition between the Higgs phase and the confinement phase at finite chemical potential along the critical end line. In the (2+1)-dimensional model, the resulting endpoint is consistent with a recent numerical estimate by the Monte Carlo simulation. In the (3+1)-dimensional case, however, the location of the critical endpoint shows disagreement with t…
We present a tensor-network approach for two-dimensional strong-coupling QCD with staggered quarks at nonzero chemical potential. After integrating out the gauge fields at infinite coupling, the partition function can be written as a full contraction of a tensor network consisting of coupled local numeric and Grassmann tensors. To evaluate the partition function and to compute observables, we develop a Grassmann higher-order tensor renormalization group method, specifically tailored for this model. During the coarsening procedure, the blocking of adjacent Grassmann tensors is performed analyti…

We compute the partition function of a massive free boson in a square lattice using a tensor network algorithm. We introduce a singular value decomposition (SVD) of continuous matrices that leads to very accurate numerical results. It is shown the emergence of a CDL fixed point structure. In the massless limit, we reproduce the results of conformal field theory including a precise value of the central charge.
