We give a brief re-exposition of the theory due to Pauli and Sinclair of ramification polygons of Eisenstein polynomials over p-adic fields, their associated residual polynomials and an algorithm to produce all extensions for a given ramification polygon. We supplement this with an algorithm to produce all ramification polygons of a given degree, and hence we can produce all totally ramified extensions of a given degree.
We give an algorithm that constructs a minimal set of polynomials defining all extension of a $(π)$-adic field with given, inertia degree, ramification index, discriminant, ramification polygon, and residual polynomials of the segments of the ramification polygon.
We give an asymptotic formula for the number of $D_4$ quartic extensions of a function field with discriminant equal to some bound, essentially reproducing the analogous result over number fields due Cohen, Diaz y Diaz, and Olivier, but with a stronger error term. We also study the relative density of $D_4$ and $S_4$ quartic extensions of a function field and show that with mild conditions, the number of $D_4$ quartic extensions can far exceed the number of $S_4$ quartic extensions
We construct the q-extension of the Hurwitz's type L-function which interpolates the q-extension of generalized Bernoulli polynomials attached to $chi$.
Let $p$ be an odd prime number. We construct explicit uniformizers for the totally ramified extension $\mathbb{Q}_p(ζ_{p^2},\sqrt[p]{p})$ of the field of $p$-adic numbers $\mathbb{Q}_p$, where $ζ_{p^2}$ is a primitive $p^2$-th root of unity.
We consider a novel version of the classical Jacquet-Langlands {correspondence}, explore a $p$-adic extension of the Jacquet-Langlands correspondence, and as an explicit example we find an overconvergent automorphic form of weight~1 which corresponds to a classical modular form of weight~1, using both experimental and theoretical methods.
Let $L/K$ be a finite Galois extension of $p$-adic fields with group $G$. It is well-known that $\mathcal{O}_L$ contains a free $\mathcal{O}_K[G]$-submodule of finite index. We study the minimal index of such a free submodule, and determine it exactly in several cases, including for any cyclic extension of degree $p$ of $p$-adic fields.
The fundamental aim of this paper is to describe q-Analogue of p-adic log gamma functions with weight alpha and beta. Moreover, we give relationship between p-adic q-log gamma funtions with weight (α, β) and q-extension of Genocchi numbers with weight alpha and beta and modified q Euler numbers with weight α
We deduce a formula enumerating the isomorphism classes of extensions of a $\kp$-adic field $K$ with given ramification $e$ and inertia $f$. The formula follows from a simple group-theoretic lemma, plus the Krasner formula and an elementary class field theory computation. It shows that the number of classes only depends on the ramification and inertia of the extensions $K/\Q_p$, and $K(ζ_{p^m})/K$ obtained adding the $p^m$-th roots of 1, for all $p^m$ dividing $e$.
Let $p$ be an odd prime and $F_{\infty}$ a $p$-adic Lie extension of a number field $F$ with Galois group $G$. Suppose that $G$ is a compact pro-$p$ $p$-adic Lie group with no torsion and that it contains a closed normal subgroup $H$ such that $G/H\cong \mathbb{Z}_p$. Under various assumptions, we establish asymptotic upper bounds for the growth of $p$-exponents of the class groups in the said $p$-adic Lie extension. Our results generalize a previous result of Lei, where he established such an estimate under the assumption that $H\cong \mathbb{Z}_p$.

Let $F$ be a global function field of characteristic $p>0$ and $A/F$ an abelian variety. Let $K/F$ be an $ł$-adic Lie extension ($ł\neq p$) unramified outside a finite set of primes $S$ and such that $\Gal(K/F)$ has no elements of order $ł$. We shall prove that, under certain conditions, $Sel_A(K)_ł^\vee$ has no nontrivial pseudo-null submodule.
In this paper, the author proved that the base change lifting associated to a totally ramified extension of a non-archimedean local field coincides with a map coming from the close fields theory of Kazhdan under some conditions. As a corollary, we can construct a base change lifting for an APF extension of a mixed characteristic local field.
In this paper, we define a two-variable analogue of Perrin-Riou's p-adic regulator map for the Iwasawa cohomology of a crystalline representation of the absolute Galois group of $\mathbf{Q}_p$, over a Galois extension of $\mathbf{Q}_p$ whose Galois group is an abelian p-adic Lie group of dimension 2. We use this regulator map to study p-adic representations of global Galois groups over certain abelian extensions of number fields whose localisation at the primes above p are extensions of the above type. In the example of the restriction to an imaginary quadratic field of the representation atta…
In this paper we consider the problem of classifying the isomorphism classes of extensions of degree pk of a p-adic field, restricting to the case of extensions without intermediate fields. We establish a correspondence between the isomorphism classes of these extensions and some Kummer extensions of a suitable field F containing K. We then describe such classes in terms of the representations of Gal(F/K). Finally, for k = 2 and for each possible Galois group G, we count the number of isomorphism classes of the extensions whose normal closure has a Galois group isomorphic to G. As a byproduct,…
For an odd prime number $p$, we consider degree $p$ extensions $L/K$ of $p$-adic fields with normal closure $\widetilde{L}$ such that the Galois group of $\widetilde{L}/K$ is the dihedral group of order $2p$. We shall prove a complete characterization of the freeness of the ring of integers $\mathcal{O}_L$ over its associated order $\mathfrak{A}_{L/K}$ in the unique Hopf-Galois structure on $L/K$, which is analogous to the one already known for cyclic degree $p$ extensions of $p$-adic fields. We shall derive positive and negative results on criteria for the freeness of $\mathcal{O}_L$ as $\mat…
We give two specializations of Krasner's mass formula. The first formula yields the number of extensions of a $\mathfrak{p}$-adic field with given, inertia degree, ramification index, discriminant, and ramification polygon. We then refine this formula further to the case where an additional invariant related to the residual polynomials of the segments of the ramification polygon is given.
In this paper the new techniques and results concerning the structure theory of modules over non-commutative Iwasawa algebras are applied to arithmetic: we study Iwasawa modules over p-adic Lie extensions K of number fields k "up to pseudo-isomorphism". In particular, a close relationship is revealed between the Selmer group of abelian varieties, the Galois group of the maximal abelian unramified p-extension of K as well as the Galois group of the maximal abelian outside S unramified p-extension where S is a finite set of certain places of k. Moreover, we determine the Galois module structure …
Let $A$ be an abelian variety defined over a number field $F$ with supersingular reduction at all primes of $F$ above $p$. We establish an equivalence between the weak Leopoldt conjecture and the expected value of the corank of the classical Selmer group of $A$ over a $p$-adic Lie extension (not neccesasily containing the cyclotomic $\Zp$-extension). As an application, we obtain the exactness of the defining sequence of the Selmer group. In the event that the $p$-adic Lie extension is one-dimensional, we show that the dual Selmer group has no nontrivial finite submodules. Finally, we show that…
We introduce a hybridization of digital sequences with uniformly distributed sequences in the domain of $b$-adic integers, $\mathbb Z_{b}, b\in\mathbb N\setminus\{1\}$, by using such sequences as input for generating matrices. The generating matrices are then naturally required to have finite row-lengths. We exhibit some relations of the `classical' digital method to our extended version, and also give several examples of new constructions with their respective quality assessments in terms of $t,\mathbf T$ and discrepancy.
Let $A$ be an abelian variety over a $p$-adic field $K$ and $L$ an algebraic infinite extension over $K$. We consider the finiteness of the torsion part of the group of rational points $A(L)$ under some assumptions. In 1975, Hideo Imai proved that such a group is finite if $A$ has good reduction and $L$ is the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K$. In this talk, first we show a generalization of Imai's result in the case where $A$ has ordinary good reduction. Next we give some finiteness results when $A$ is an elliptic curve and $L$ is the field generated by the $p$-power torsion of an el…
We prove that the density of polynomials $P(x)=\sum_{i=0}^n a_n x^n$ over a local field $K$ generating an étale extension with specified splitting type is a rational function in terms of the size of the residue field of $K$ in the case where the splitting type is tame. Moreover, we give a computable recursive formula for these densities and compute the asymptotics of this density as the size of the residue field tends to infinity.
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve defined over a number field $F$. In this paper, we study the structure of the $p^\infty$-Selmer group of $E$ over $p$-adic Lie extensions $F_\infty$ of $F$ which are obtained by adjoining to $F$ the $p$-division points of an abelian variety $A$ defined over $F$. The main focus of the paper is the calculation of the $\Gal(F_\infty/F)$-Euler characteristic of the $p^\infty$-Selmer group of $E$. The final section illustrates the main theory with the example of an elliptic curve of conductor 294.
Let $p$ be an odd prime and $F_{\infty}$ a $p$-adic Lie extension of a number field $F$. Let $A$ be an abelian variety over $F$ which has ordinary reduction at every primes above $p$. Under various assumptions, we establish asymptotic upper bounds for the growth of Mordell-Weil rank of the abelian variety of $A$ in the said $p$-adic Lie extension. Our upper bound can be expressed in terms of invariants coming from the cyclotomic level. Motivated by this formula, we make a conjecture on an asymptotic upper bound of the growth of Mordell-Weil ranks over a $p$-adic Lie extension which is in terms…
Given a $p$-adic field $K$ and a prime number $\ell$, we count the total number of the isomorphism classes of $p^\ell$-extensions of $K$ having no intermediate fields. Moreover for each group that can appear as Galois group of the normal closure of such an extension, we count the number of isomorphism classes that contain extensions whose normal closure has Galois group isomorphic to the given group. Finally we determine the ramification groups and the discriminant of the composite of all $p^\ell$-extensions of K with no intermediate fields. The principal tool is a result, proved at the beginn…
Let $p$ be an odd prime number. In this paper, we study the growth of the Sylow $p$-subgroups of the even $K$-groups of rings of integers in a $p$-adic Lie extension. Our results generalize previous results of Coates and Ji-Qin, where they considered the situation of a cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension. Our method of proof differs from these previous work. Their proof relies on an explicit description of certain Galois group via Kummer theory afforded by the context of a cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension, whereas our approach is via considering the Iwasawa cohomology groups with coefficien…
In this paper we will extend a $p$-adic algorithm of Boyd in order to study the size of the set: \[J_p(y)=\left\{n :\sum_{j=1}^{n}\frac{y^j}{j}\equiv 0(\mod p)\right\}.\] Suppose that $p$ is one of the first 100 odd primes and $y\in\{1,2,...,p-1\}$, then our calculations prove that $|J_p(y)|<\infty$ in 24240 out of 24578 possible cases. Among other results we show that $|J_{13}(9)|=18763$. The paper concludes by discussing some possible applications of our method to sums involving Fibonacci numbers.
Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}$ with good supersingular reduction at a prime $p\geq 3$ and $a_p=0$. We generalise the definition of Kobayashi's plus/minus Selmer groups over $\mathbb{Q}(μ_{p^\infty})$ to $p$-adic Lie extensions $K_\infty$ of $\mathbb{Q}$ containing $\mathbb{Q}(μ_{p^\infty})$, using the theory of $(ϕ,Γ)$-modules and Berger's comparison isomorphisms. We show that these Selmer groups can be equally described using the "jumping conditions" of Kobayashi via the theory of overconvergent power series. Moreover, we show that such an approach gives the usual Selmer group…
We study the repartition of the roots of a random p-adic polynomial in an algebraic closure of Qp.We prove that the mean number of roots generating a fixed finite extension K of Qp depends mostly on the discriminant of K, an extension containing less roots when it gets more ramified. We prove further that, for any positive integer r, a random p-adic polynomial of sufficiently large degree has about r roots on average in extensions of degree at most r.Beyond the mean, we also study higher moments and correlations between the number of roots in two given subsets of Qp (or, more generally, of a f…
Let E/Q be an elliptic curve with good supersingular reduction at p with a_p(E)=0. We give a conjecture on the existence of analytic plus and minus p-adic L-functions of E over the Zp-cyclotomic extension of a finite Galois extension of Q where p is unramified. Under some technical conditions, we adopt the method of Bouganis and Venjakob for p-ordinary CM elliptic curves to construct such functions for a particular non-abelian extension.
We show that, for an abelian variety defined over a $p$-adic field $K$ which has potential good reduction, its torsion subgroup with values in the composite field of $K$ and a certain Lubin-Tate extension over a $p$-adic field is finite.
- Let K be a totally imaginary number field. Denote by G ur K (2) the Galois group of the maximal unramified pro-2 extension of K. By comparing cup-products in {é}tale cohomology of SpecO K and cohomology of uniform pro-2 groups, we obtain situations where G ur K (2) has no non-trivial uniform analytic quotient, proving some new special cases of the unramified Fontaine-Mazur conjecture. For example, in the family of imaginary quadratic fields K for which the 2-rank of the class group is equal to 5, we obtain that for at least 33.12% of such K, the group G ur K (2) has no non-trivial uniform an…
Recently Ritter and Weiss introduced an equivariant "main conjecture" than generalizes and refines the Main Conjecture of Iwasawa theory. In this paper, we show that, for the prime 2 and a dihedral extension of order 8 over Q, this conjecture is equivalent to a congruence condition on the coefficients of a power series with 2-adic integral coefficients constructed using the 2-adic L-series associated to the extension. We then verify that this congruence condition holds for the first coefficients in a large number of examples.
Let F be a global function field of characteristic p>0, K/F an l-adic Lie extension unramified outside a finite set of places S and A/F an abelian variety without complex multiplication. We study Sel_A(K)_l^\vee (the Pontrjagin dual of the Selmer group) and (under some mild hypotheses) prove that it is a finitely generated Z_l[[\Gal(K/F)]]-module via generalizations of Mazur's Control Theorem. If Gal(K/F) has no elements of order l and contains a closed normal subgroup H such that Gal(K/F)/H\simeq Z_l, we are able to give sufficient conditions for Sel_A(K)_l^\vee to be finitely generated as Z_…
We compare the Pontryagin duals of fine Selmer groups of two congruent $p$-adic Galois representations over admissible pro-$p$, $p$-adic Lie extensions $K_\infty$ of number fields $K$. We prove that in several natural settings the $π$-primary submodules of the Pontryagin duals are pseudo-isomorphic over the Iwasawa algebra; if the coranks of the fine Selmer groups are not equal, then we can still prove inequalities between the $μ$-invariants. In the special case of a $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension $K_\infty/K$, we also compare the Iwasawa $λ$-invariants of the fine Selmer groups, even in situations …
We continue with our study of the non-critical exceptional zeros of Katz' $p$-adic $L$-functions attached to a CM field $K$, following two threads. In the first thread, we redefine our (group-ring-valued) $\mathcal{L}$-invariant associated to each $\mathbb{Z}_{p}$-extension $K_Γ$ of $K$ in terms of $p$-adic height pairings and interpolate them as $K_Γ$ varies to a universal (multivariate) group-ring-valued $\mathcal{L}$-invariant. In the second thread, we use our results to study the exceptional zeros of the non-genuine Rankin--Selberg $p$-adic $L$-functions attached to the self-products of ne…
For an algebraic number field K such that prime l splits completely in K we define a regulator R(K) that characterize the subgroup of universal norms from the cyclotomic extension of K in the completed group of S-units of K, where S consists of all prime divisors of l. We prove that inequality R(K) not equals 0 follows from the l-adic Schanuel conjecture and holds true for some Abelian extensions of imaginary quadratic fields.
Rigid meromorphic cocycles were introduced by Darmon and Vonk as a conjectural $p$-adic extension of the theory of singular moduli to real quadratic base fields. They are certain cohomology classes of $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z}[1/p])$ which can be evaluated at real quadratic irrationalities and the values thus obtained are conjectured to lie in algebraic extensions of the base field. In this article we present a similar construction of cohomology casses in which $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z}[1/p])$ is replaced by an order in an indefinite quaternion algebra over a totally real number field $F$. The…
Poitou-Tate duality for the Galois group of an extension of a global field with appropriately restricted ramification can be seen as taking place between the cohomology of a compact or discrete module and the compactly-supported cohomology of its Pontryagin dual. Nekovar proved a derived variant of this in which the module is replaced by a bounded complex of modules over the group ring of R that are finitely generated over R, where R is a complete commutative local Noetherian ring with finite residue field. Here, the Pontryagin dual is replaced by the Grothendieck dual, which is itself a bound…
Generalised Heegner cycles are associated to a pair of an elliptic Hecke eigenform and a Hecke character over an imaginary quadratic extension $K/\Q$. Let $p$ be an odd prime split in $K/\Q$ and $l\neq p$ an odd unramified prime. We prove the non-triviality of the $p$-adic Abel-Jacobi image of generalised Heegner cycles modulo $p$ over the $\Z_l$-anticylotomic extension of $K$. The result is an evidence for the refined Bloch-Beilinson and the Bloch-Kato conjecture. In the case of two, it provides a refinement of the results of Cornut and Vatsal on the non-triviality of Heegner points over the …
We study $α$-adic expansions of numbers in an extension field, that is to say, left infinite representations of numbers in the positional numeration system with the base $α$, where $α$ is an algebraic conjugate of a Pisot number $β$. Based on a result of Bertrand and Schmidt, we prove that a number belongs to $\mathbb{Q}(α)$ if and only if it has an eventually periodic $α$-expansion. Then we consider $α$-adic expansions of elements of the extension ring $\mathbb{Z}[α^{-1}]$ when $β$ satisfies the so-called Finiteness property (F). In the particular case that $β$ is a quadratic Pisot unit, we i…
Bombieri and Zannier gave an effective construction of algebraic numbers of small height inside the maximal Galois extension of the rationals which is totally split at a given finite set of prime numbers. They proved, in particular, an explicit upper bound for the lim inf of the height of elements in such fields. We generalize their result in an effective way to maximal Galois extensions of number fields with given local behaviour at finitely many places.
Let $G\subset x{\mathbb F}_q[\![x]\!]$ ($q$ is a power of the prime $p$) be a subset of formal power series over a finite field such that it forms a compact abelian $p$-adic Lie group of dimension $d\ge 1$. We establish a necessary and sufficient condition for the APF extension of local field corresponding to $\left({\mathbb F}_q(\!(x)\!), G\right)$ under the field of norms functor to be an extension of $p$-adic fields. We then apply this result to study family of invertible power series with coefficients in a $p$-adic integers ring and commute with a fixed noninvertible power series under the…
In this paper we give a bound for the Iwasawa lambda invariant of an abelian number field attached to the cyclotomic Z_p-extension of that field. We also give some properties of Iwaswa power series attached to p-adic L-functions.
Let $p\neq2$ be a prime. We show a technique based on local class field theory and on the expansions of certain resultants which allows to recover very easily Lbekkouri's characterization of Eisenstein polynomials generating cyclic wild extensions of degree $p^2$ over $\Q_p$, and to extend it to the case of the base field $K$ being an unramified extension of $\Q_p$. Furthermore, when a polynomial satisfies only some of the stated conditions, we show that the first unsatisfied condition gives information about the Galois group of the normal closure. This permits to give a complete classificatio…
