The aim of this paper is to give a condition to topological conjugacy of invariant flows in an Lie group $G$ which its Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ is associative algebra or semisimple. In fact, we show that if two dynamical system on $G$ are hyperbolic, then they are topological conjugate.
In this paper we study a classification of linear systems on Lie groups with respect to the conjugacy of the corresponding flows. We also describe stability according to Lyapunov exponents.
The goal of this article is to study how combinatorial equivalence implies topological conjugacy. For that, we introduce the concept of kneading sequences for nonautonomous discrete dynamical systems and show that these sequences are a complete invariant for topological conjugacy classes.
In the present paper, we define the concept of weak topological conjugacy and we establish sufficient conditions to obtain this kind of topological conjugacy between two limit sets. We use the character of recurrence to obtain the results.
We describe structural properties of strongly connected finite directed graphs, that are invariants of the topological conjugacy of their Markov-Dyck shifts. For strongly connected finite directed graphs with these properties topological conjugacy of their Markov-Dyck shifts implies isomorphism of the graphs.
In this paper we study topological rigidity of affine actions on compact connected metrizable abelian groups. We also classify one-parameter flows of translations upto orbit equivalence and discrete group actions by translations upto topological conjugacy.
We establish necessary and sufficient conditions for a dynamical system to be topologically conjugate to the Morse minimal set, the shift orbit closure of the Morse sequence, and conditions for topological conjugacy to the closely related Teoplitz minimal set.
We study the neutral periodic points of the Markov-Dyck shifts of finite strongly connected directed graphs. Under certain hypothesis on the structure of the graphs we show, that the topological conjugacy of their Markov-Dyck shifts implies the isomorphism of the graphs.
We provide a classification of random orientation-preserving homeomorphisms of $\mathbb{S}^1$, up to topological conjugacy of the random dynamical systems generated by i.i.d. iterates of the random homeomorphism. This classification covers all random circle homeomorphisms for which the noise space is a connected Polish space and an additional extremely weak condition is satisfied.
A $D_{\infty}$-topological Markov chain can be represented by a pair of zero-one square matrices, which is called a flip pair. We introduce the concepts of $D_{\infty}$-strong shift equivalence and $D_{\infty}$-shift equivalence, which are equivalence relations between flip pairs. We investigate the relationships between the existence of a $D_{\infty}$-conjugacy, the existence of a $D_{\infty}$-strong shift equivalence, the existence of a $D_{\infty}$-shift equivalence and the coincidence of the Lind zeta functions.
The classical criterion for a circle diffeomorphism to be topologically conjugate to an irrational rigid rotation was given by A. Denjoy. In 1985, one of us (Sullivan) gave a new criterion. There is an example satisfying Denjoy's bounded variation condition rather than Sullivan's Zygmund condition and vice versa. This paper will give the third criterion which is implied by either of the above criteria.
Primitive constant length substitutions generate minimal symbolic dynamical systems. In this article we present an algorithm which can produce the list of injective substitutions of the same length that generate topologically conjugate systems. We show that each conjugacy class contains infinitely substitutions which are not injective. As examples, the Toeplitz conjugacy class contains three injective substitutions (two on two symbols and one on three symbols), and the length two Thue-Morse conjugacy class contains twelve substitutions, among which are two on six symbols. Together, they consti…
We will characterize topological conjugacy classes of one-sided topological Markov shifts in terms of the associated Cuntz--Krieger algebras and its gauge actions with potentials.
In this paper, we analyze the Borel complexity of the topological conjugacy relation on Toeplitz subshifts. More specifically, we prove that topological conjugacy of Toeplitz subshifts with separated holes is hyperfinite. Indeed, we show that the topological conjugacy relation is hyperfinite on a larger class of Toeplitz subshifts which we call Toeplitz subshifts with growing blocks. This result provides a partial answer to a question asked by Sabok and Tsankov.
In this paper we prove the following topological classification result for flows on real projective space induced by linear flows on Euclidean space: Two flows on the projective space P(V) of a finite-dimensional real vector space V, induced by endomorphisms A and B of V, are topologically conjugate if and only if the Jordan structures of A and B coincide except for the real parts of the eigenvalues whose values may differ but whose order and multiplicities must agree. Our proof is mainly based on ideas of Kuiper who considered the discrete-time analogue of this classification problem. We also…
We will characterize topological conjugate one-sided topological Markov shifts in terms of their subgroups of continuous full groups and subalgebras of Cuntz--Krieger algebras.

This paper establishes topological (equi-)semiconjugacy and (equi-)conjugacy between induced non-autonomous set-valued systems and subshifts of finite type. First, some necessary and sufficient conditions are given for a non-autonomous discrete system to be topologically semiconjugate or conjugate to a subshift of finite type. Further, several sufficient conditions for it to be topologically equi-semiconjugate or equi-conjugate to a subshift of finite type are obtained. Consequently, estimations of topological entropy and several criteria of Li-Yorke chaos and distributional chaos in a sequenc…
The class of normal subshifts includes irreducible infinite topological Markov shifts, irreducible infinite sofic shifts, synchronized systems, Dyck shifts, $β$-shifts, substitution minimal shifts, and so on. We will characterize one-sided topological conjugacy classes of normal subshifts in terms of the associated $C^*$-algebras and its gauge actions with potentials.
In this paper, we analyze the complexity of topological conjugacy of pointed Cantor minimal systems from the point of view of descriptive set theory. We prove that the topological conjugacy relation on pointed Cantor minimal systems is Borel bireducible with the Borel equivalence relation $Δ_{\mathbb{R}}^+$ on $\mathbb{R}^{\mathbb{N}}$ defined by $x Δ_{\mathbb{R}}^+ y \Leftrightarrow \{x_i:i \in \mathbb{N}\}=\{y_i:i \in \mathbb{N}\}$. Moreover, we show that $Δ_{\mathbb{R}}^+$ is a lower bound for the Borel complexity of topological conjugacy of Cantor minimal systems. Finally, we interpret our…
In this note, we analyze the classification problem for compact metrizable $G$-ambits for a countable discrete group $G$ from the point of view of descriptive set theory. More precisely, we prove that the topological conjugacy relation on the standard Borel space of compact metrizable $G$-ambits is Borel for every countable discrete group $G$.
The topological equivalence classification for linear flows on $\mathbb{R}^n$ had been completely solved by Kuiper and independently Ladis in 1973. However, Ladis' proof was published in a Russian journal which isn't easily available, Kuiper's proof is more topological and a little bit subtle. Aiming at topological conjugacy classification, mainly based on the ideas of Kuiper, we introduce other techniques and try to present an elementary and self-contained proof just using linear algebra and elementary topology.
By algebraic group theory, there is a map from the semisimple conjugacy classes of a finite group of Lie type to the conjugacy classes of the Weyl group. Picking a semisimple class uniformly at random yields a probability measure on conjugacy classes of the Weyl group. We conjecture that this measure agrees with a second measure on conjugacy classes of the Weyl group induced by a construction of Cellini which uses the affine Weyl group. This conjecture is confirmed in special cases such as type C odd characteristic and the identity conjugacy class in type A. Models of card shuffling, old and n…
The role of generalized Bowen-Franks groups (BF-groups) as topological conjugacy invariants for $\mathbb{T}^{n}$ automorphisms is studied. Using algebraic number theory, a link is established between equality of BF-groups for different automorphisms ($BF$-equivalence) and an identical position in a finite lattice ($\mathcal{L}$-equivalence). Important cases of equivalence of the two conditions are proved. Finally, a topological interpretation of the classical BF-group $\mathbb{Z}% ^{n}/\mathbb{Z}^{n}(I-A)$ in this context is presented.
A diffeomorphism $f:\mathbb{R}^2\to\mathbb{R}^2$ in the plane is Anosov if it has a hyperbolic splitting at every point of the plane. The two known topological conjugacy classes of such diffeomorphisms are linear hyperbolic automorphisms and translations (the existence of Anosov structures for plane translations was originally shown by W. White). P. Mendes conjectured that these are the only topological conjugacy classes for Anosov diffeomorphisms in the plane. We prove that this claim holds when the Anosov diffeomorphism is the time-one map of a flow, via a theorem about foliations invariant …
Topological conjugateness of one dimensional unimodal dynamical systems, which are generated by interval [0, 1] into itself maps are studied. We study the smoothness and differentiability of the conjugacy of symmetrical and non-symmetrical tent maps. Also weprove the extremal property of the length of the graph of the conjugacy of symmetrical and non-symmetrical tent maps.
We will characterize topologically conjugate two-sided topological Markov shifts $(\bar{X}_A,\barσ_A)$ in terms of the associated asymptotic Ruelle $C^*$-algebras ${\mathcal{R}}_A$ with its commutative $C^*$-subalgebras $C(\bar{X}_A)$ and the canonical circle actions. We will also show that extended Ruelle algebras ${\widetilde{\mathcal{R}}}_A$, which are purely infinite version of the asymptotic Ruelle algebras, with its commutative $C^*$-subalgebras $C(\bar{X}_A)$ and the canonical torus actions $γ^A$ are complete invariants for topological conjugacy of two-sided topological Markov shifts. W…
For an irreducible non-permutation matrix $A$, the triplet $({\mathcal{O}_A},{\mathcal{D}_A},ρ^A)$ for the Cuntz-Krieger algebra ${\mathcal{O}_A}$, its canonical maximal abelian $C^*$-subalgebra ${\mathcal{D}_A}$, and its gauge action $ρ^A$ is called the Cuntz-Krieger triplet. We introduce a notion of strong Morita equivalence in the Cuntz-Krieger triplets, and prove that two Cuntz-Krieger triplets $({\mathcal{O}_A},{\mathcal{D}_A},ρ^A)$ and $({\mathcal{O}_B},{\mathcal{D}_B},ρ^B)$ are strong Morita equivalent if and only if $A$ and $B$ are strong shift equivalent. We also show that the general…
In this paper, we study the descriptive set theoretic complexity of the equivalence relation of conjugacy of Toeplitz subshifts of a residually finite group $G$. On the one hand, we show that if $G = \mathbb{Z}$, then topological conjugacy on Toeplitz subshifts with separated holes is amenable. In contrast, if $G$ is non-amenable, then conjugacy of Toeplitz $G$-subshifts is a non-amenable equivalence relation. The results were motivated by a general question, asked by Gao, Jackson and Seward, about the complexity of conjugacy for minimal, free subshifts of countable groups.
The concept of independence entropy for symbolic dynamical systems was introduced in [LMP13]. This notion of entropy measures the extent to which one can freely insert symbols in positions without violating the constraints defined by the shift space. Independence entropy is not invariant under topological conjugacy. We define an invariant version of the independence entropy by setting sup h_{ind}(X) = sup{h_{ind}(Y )|Y ' X}. This invariant is bounded above by the topological entropy. We prove that equality sup h_{ind}(X) = h(X) holds for all sofic shift spaces over Z, then we give an example s…
A map $f: \ff^n \to \ff^n$ over a field $\ff$ is called affine if it is of the form $f(x)=Ax+b$, where the matrix $A \in \ff^{n\times n}$ is called the linear part of affine map and $b \in \ff^n$. The affine maps over $\ff=\rr$ or $\cc$ are investigated. We prove that affine maps having fixed points are topologically conjugate if and only if their linear parts are topologically conjugate. If affine maps have no fixed points and $n=1$ or 2, then they are topologically conjugate if and only if their linear parts are either both singular or both non-singular. Thus we obtain classification up to t…
We propose an inverse approach for dealing with interval maps based on the manner whereby their branches are related (folding property), instead of addressing the map equations as a whole. As a main result, we provide a symmetry-breaking framework for determining topological conjugacy of interval maps, a well-known open problem in ergodic theory. Implications thereof for the spectrum and eigenfunctions of the Perron-Frobenius operator are also discussed.
How can we interpret the infimum of Lipschitz constants in a conjugacy class of interval maps? For positive entropy maps, the exponential of the topological entropy gives a well-known lower bound. We show that for piecewise monotone interval maps as well as for $C^{\infty}$ interval maps, these two quantities are equal, but for countably piecewise monotone maps, the inequality can be strict. Moreover, in the topologically mixing and Markov case, we characterize the infimum of Lipschitz constants as the exponential of the Salama entropy of a certain reverse Markov chain associated with the map.…
We characterize the symbolical dynamical systems which are topologically isomorphic to the Fibonacci dynmaical system. We prove that there are infinitely many injective primitive substitutions generating a dynamical system in the Fibonacci conjugacy class. In this class there are infinitely many dynamical systems not generated by a substitution. An example is the system generated by doubling the 0's in the infinite Fibonacci word.
Recently a new class of critical points, termed as {\sl perpetual points}, where acceleration becomes zero but the velocity remains non-zero, is observed in nonlinear dynamical systems. In this work we show whether a transformation also maps the perpetual points to another system or not. We establish mathematically that a linearly transformed system is topologicaly conjugate, and hence does map the perpetual points. However, for a nonlinear transformation, various other possibilities are also discussed. It is noticed that under a linear diffeomorphic transformation, perpetual points are mapped…
This paper is devoted to study the topological invariance of several non-uniform hyperbolicity conditions of one-dimensional maps. In contrast with the case of maps with only one critical point, it is known that for maps with several critical points the Collet-Eckmann condition is not in itself invariance under topological conjugacy. We show that the Collet-Eckmann condition together with any of several slow recurrence conditions is invariant under topological conjugacy. This extends and gives a new proof of a result by Luzzatto and Wang that also applies to the complex setting.
Cellular automata are topological dynamical systems. We consider the problem of deciding whether two cellular automata are conjugate or not. We also consider deciding strong conjugacy, that is, conjugacy by a map that commutes with the shift maps. We show that the following two sets of pairs of one-dimensional one-sided cellular automata are recursively inseparable: (i) pairs where the first cellular automaton has strictly higher entropy than the second one, and (ii) pairs that are strongly conjugate and both have zero topological entropies. This implies that the following decision problems ar…
We give a global geometric decomposition of continuously differentiable vector fields on $\mathbb{R}^n$. More precisely, given a vector field of class $\mathcal{C}^{1}$ on $\mathbb{R}^{n}$, and a geometric structure on $\mathbb{R}^n$, we provide a unique global decomposition of the vector field as the sum of a left (right) gradient--like vector field (naturally associated to the geometric structure) with potential function vanishing at the origin, and a vector field which is left (right) orthogonal to the identity, with respect to the geometric structure. As application, we provide a criterion…
Classical results by Poincaré and Denjoy show that two orientation-preserving $C^2$ diffeomorphisms of the circle are topologically conjugate if and only if they have the same rotation number. We show that there is no possibility of getting such a complete numerical Borel invariant for the conjugacy relation of orientation-preserving circle diffeomorphisms by homeomorphisms with higher degree of regularity. For instance, we consider conjugacy by Hölder homeomorphisms or by $C^k$-diffeomorphisms with $k\in \mathbb{Z}^+ \cup \{\infty\}$. The proof combines techniques from Descriptive Set Theory …
We survey, and extend, results on the adjoint action of the homeomorphism group $H(X)$ on the space of surjective continuous maps, $C_s(X)$, where $X$ is a Cantor set. We look also at the restriction of the action to various dynamically defined subsets of $C_s(X)$, e. g. the sets of topologically transitive maps, chain transitive maps, chain mixing maps, etc. In each case, we consider whether there exist elements with a dense conjugacy class and if so, what the generic elements look like.
In this article, we focus on the left (translation) actions on noncommutative compact connected Lie groups ${\rm SU}(2) \times T^n$. We define the rotation vectors of the left actions induced by the elements in the maximal tori of ${\rm SU}(2) \times T^n$, and utilize rotation vectors to give the complete topologically conjugate classifications of left actions. Algebraic conjugacy and smooth conjugacy are also considered.
Giordano, Putnam and Skau showed that topological full groups of Cantor minimal systems are complete invariants for flip conjugacy. We will completely determine the structure of normal subgroups of the topological full group. Moreover, a necessary and sufficient condition for the topological full group to be finitely generated will be given.
In the class of strictly convex smooth boundaries, each of which not having strip around its boundary foliated by invariant curves, we prove that the Taylor coefficients of the "normalized" Mather's $β$-function are invariants under $C^\infty$-conjugacies. In contrast, we prove that any two elliptic billiard maps are $C^0$-conjugated near their respective boundaries, and $C^\infty$-conjugated in the open cylinder, near the boundary and away from a plain passing through the center of the underlying ellipse. We also prove that if the billiard maps corresponding to two ellipses are topologically …
A group is said to be strongly amenable if each of its proximal topological actions has a fixed point. We show that a finitely generated group is strongly amenable if and only if it is virtually nilpotent. More generally, a countable discrete group is strongly amenable if and only if none of its quotients have the infinite conjugacy class property.
We study groups of circle diffeomorphisms whose action on the cylinder $\mathcal C=\mathbb S^1\times \mathbb S^1\setminus Δ$ preserves a volume form. We first show that such a group is topologically conjugate to a subgroup of $\rm{PSL}(2,\mathbb R)$, then discuss the existence of a differentiable conjugacy.
In the paper, we consider the full group $[ϕ]$ and topological full group $[[ϕ]]$ of a Cantor minimal system $(X,\f)$. We prove that the commutator subgroups $D([\f])$ and $D([[\f]])$ are simple and show that the groups $D([\f])$ and $D([[\f]])$ completely determine the class of orbit equivalence and flip conjugacy of $\f$, respectively. These results improve the classification found in \cite{gps:1999}. As a corollary of the technique used, we establish the fact that $\f$ can be written as a product of three involutions from $[\f]$.
We explore some properties of Lyapunov exponents of measures preserved by smooth maps of the interval, and study the behaviour of the Lyapunov exponents under topological conjugacy.
We describe the topological behavior of the conjugacy action of the mapping class group of an orientable infinite-type surface $Σ$ on itself. Our main results are: (1) All conjugacy classes of $MCG(Σ)$ are meager for every $Σ$, (2) $MCG(Σ)$ has a somewhere dense conjugacy class if and only if $Σ$ has at most two maximal ends and no non-displaceable finite-type subsurfaces, (3) $MCG(Σ)$ has a dense conjugacy class if and only if $Σ$ has a unique maximal end and no non-displaceable finite-type subsurfaces. Our techniques are based on model-theoretic methods developed by Kechris, Rosendal and Tru…
