Invariant random subgroups (IRS) are conjugacy invariant probability measures on the space of subgroups in a given group G. They can be regarded both as a generalization of normal subgroups as well as a generalization of lattices. As such, it is intriguing to extend results from the theories of normal subgroups and of lattices to the context of IRS. Another approach is to analyse and then use the space IRS(G) as a compact G-space in order to establish new results about lattices. The second approach has been taken in the work [7s12], that came to be known as the seven samurai paper. In these lecture notes we shall try to give a taste of both approaches.
These are the lecture notes for my course at the 2011 Park City Mathematics Graduate Summer School. The first two lectures covered the basics of the Torelli group and the Johnson homomorphism, and the third and fourth lectures discussed the second cohomology group of the level p congruence subgroup of the mapping class group, following my papers "The second rational homology group of the moduli space of curves with level structures" and "The Picard group of the moduli space of curves with level structures".
We compute the Bieri-Neumann-Strebel invariants $Σ^1$ for the generalized solvable Baumslag-Solitar groups $Γ_n$ and their finite index subgroups. Using $Σ^1$, we show that certain finite index subgroups of $Γ_n$ cannot be isomorphic to $Γ_{k}$ for any $k$. In addition, we use the BNS-invariants to give a new proof of property $R_\infty$ for the groups $Γ_n$ and their finite index subgroups.

U. Jezernik and P. Moravec have shown that if $G$ is a finite group with a subgroup $H$ of index $n$, then nth power of the Bogomolov multiplier of $G$, $\tilde{B_0}(G)^n$ is isomorphic to a subgroup of $\tilde{B_0}(H)$. In this paper we want to prove a similar result for the center by center by $w$ variety of groups, where $w$ is any outer commutator word.
Kazhdan-Margulis theorem for Invariant Random Subgroups
Subgroup Theorems for the Baer-invariant of Groups
然后利用M.R.R. Moghabu [6]的一个结果,当$c+1$为任意素数或4时,我们将能够推出关于至多为$c$ $(c\geq 1)$类的幂零群簇的Schur型结果(见[4,9])。
We study the behavior of the co-spectral radius of a subgroup $H$ of a discrete group $Γ$ under taking intersections. Our main result is that the co-spectral radius of an invariant random subgroup does not drop upon intersecting with a deterministic co-amenable subgroup. As an application, we find that the intersection of independent co-amenable invariant random subgroups is co-amenable.
Building on work from Sun and Kechris-Quorning, we prove that every acylindrically hyperbolic group $G$ admits a weakly mixing probability measure preserving action $G \curvearrowright (X,\mathcal{B},μ)$ which is faithful but not essentially free. In other words, $G$ admits a weakly mixing nontrivial faithful IRS. We also prove that every non-elementary hyperbolic group admits a characteristic random subgroup with the same properties.
Suppose that a group $G$ acts non-elementarily on a hyperbolic space $S$ and does not fix any point of $\partial S$. A subgroup $H\le G$ is said to be geometrically dense in $G$ if the limit sets of $H$ and $G$ coincide and $H$ does not fix any point of $\partial S$. We prove that every invariant random subgroup of $G$ is either geometrically dense or contained in the elliptic radical (i.e., the maximal normal elliptic subgroup of $G$). In particular, every ergodic measure preserving action of an acylindrically hyperbolic group on a Borel probability space $(X,μ)$ either has finite stabilizers…
We investigate invariant random subgroups in groups acting on rooted trees. Let $\mathrm{Alt}_f(T)$ be the group of finitary even automorphisms of the $d$-ary rooted tree $T$. We prove that a nontrivial ergodic IRS of $\mathrm{Alt}_f(T)$ that acts without fixed points on the boundary of $T$ contains a level stabilizer, in particular it is the random conjugate of a finite index subgroup. Applying the technique to branch groups we prove that an ergodic IRS in a finitary regular branch group contains the derived subgroup of a generalized rigid level stabilizer. We also prove that every weakly bra…
Let $G$ be an amenable group. We define and study an algebra $\mathcal{A}_{sn}(G)$, which is related to invariant means on the subnormal subgroups of $G$. For a just infinite amenable group $G$, we show that $\mathcal{A}_{sn}(G)$ is nilpotent if and only if $G$ is not a branch group, and in the case that it is nilpotent we determine the index of nilpotence. We next study $\operatorname{rad} \ell^1(G)^{**}$ for an amenable branch group $G$, and show that it always contains nilpotent left ideals of arbitrarily large index, as well as non-nilpotent elements. This provides infinitely many finitely…
