The multiplier representation of the generalized symmetry group of a quasiperiodic flow on the n-torus defines, for each subgroup of the multiplier group of the flow, a group invariant of the smooth conjugacy class of that flow. This group invariant is the internal semidirect product of a subgroup isomorphic to the n-torus by a subgroup isomorphic to that subgroup of the multiplier group. Each subgroup of the multiplier group is a multiplicative group of algebraic integers of degree at most n, which group is isomorphic to an abelian group of n by n unimodular matrices.
It will be shown that if $ϕ$ is a quasiperiodic flow on the $n$-torus that is algebraic, if $ψ$ is a flow on the $n$-torus that is smoothly conjugate to a flow generated by a constant vector field, and if $ϕ$ is smoothly semiconjugate to $ψ$, then $ψ$ is a quasiperiodic flow that is algebraic, and the multiplier group of $ψ$ is a finite index subgroup of the multiplier group of $ϕ$. This will partially establish a conjecture that asserts that a quasiperiodic flow on the $n$-torus is algebraic if and only if its multiplier group is a finite index subgroup of the group of units of the ring of in…
We classify a quasiperiodic flow as either algebraic or transcendental. For an algebraic quasiperiodic flow on the n-torus, we prove that an absolute invariant of the smooth conjugacy class of this flow, known as the multiplier group, is a subgroup of the group of units of the ring of integers in a real algebraic number field of degree n over Q. We also prove that for any real algebraic number field F of degree n over Q, there exists an algebraic quasiperiodic flow on the n-torus whose multiplier group is exactly the group of units of the ring of integers in F. We support and formulate the con…
As an absolute invariant of smooth conjugacy, the multiplier group described the types of space-time symmetries that the flow has, and for a quasiperiodic flow on the $n$-torus, is the determining factor of the structure of its generalized symmetry group. It is conjectured that a quasiperiodic flow is F-algebraic if and only if its multiplier group is a finite index subgroup of the group of units in the ring of integers of a real algebraic number field F, and that a quasiperiodic flow is transcendental if and only if its multiplier group is {1,-1}. These two conjectures are partially validated…
We numerically study quasiperiodic normally hyperbolic attracting invariant circles that appear for certain parameter values in a family of three-dimensional Henon-like maps. These parameter values make up contour segments in the parameter space where the invariant circles have constant irrational rotation number. At the edges of these segments we find a breakdown of the hyperbolicity of the invariant circle. We observe the collision and loss of smoothness of two of the invariant Lyapunov bundles while the Lyapunov exponents all remain distinct. This is very similar to the breakdown of quasipe…
In a previous work [Asymptotically quasiperiodic solutions for time-dependent Hamiltonians, arXiv preprint arXiv:2211.06623 (2022)], we consider time-dependent perturbations of a Hamiltonian vector field having an invariant torus supporting quasiperiodic solutions. Assuming the perturbation decays polynomially fast as time tends to infinity, we prove the existence of an asymptotic KAM torus. An asymptotic KAM torus is a time-dependent family of embedded tori converging as time tends to infinity to the invariant torus associated with the unperturbed system. Now, it is quite natural to wonder wh…
We consider the defocusing cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) on the two-dimensional torus. The equation admits a special family of elliptic invariant quasiperiodic tori called finite-gap solutions. These are inherited from the integrable 1D model (cubic NLS on the circle) by considering solutions that depend only on one variable. We study the long-time stability of such invariant tori for the 2D NLS model and show that, under certain assumptions and over sufficiently long timescales, they exhibit a strong form of transverse instability in Sobolev spaces $H^s(\mathbb{T}^2)$ ($0<s<1$). …
A method via the KAM technique is introduced to study the existence of invariant tori and quasiperiodic solutions for impulsive Duffing-type equations with time period 1. Basing on several planar symplectic homeomorphisms and some estimates of impulsive perturbations under each symplectic homeomorphisms, we prove via the Moser's twist theorem the boundedness (Lagrange stability) and the existence of an invariant circle for the equation with area-preserving impulsive terms. And this invariant circle having any rotation number $ω>ω_0$ with some $ω_0>0$, so we obtain also that the solutions start…
In a previous work [Asymptotically quasiperiodic solutions for time-dependent Hamiltonians, arXiv preprint arXiv:2211.06623 (2022)], we consider time-dependent perturbations of a Hamiltonian having an invariant torus supporting quasiperiodic solutions. Assuming the perturbation decays polynomially fast as time tends to infinity, we prove the existence of an asymptotic KAM torus. That is a time-dependent family of embedded tori converging as time tends to infinity to the quasiperiodic invariant torus of the unperturbed system. In this paper, the dynamic on the invariant torus associated with th…
The description of almost periodic or quasiperiodic structures has a long tradition in mathematical physics, in particular since the discovery of quasicrystals in the early 80's. Frequently, the modelling of such structures leads to different types of dynamical systems which include, depending on the concept of quasiperiodicity being considered, skew products over quasiperiodic or almost-periodic base flows, mathematical quasicrystals or maps of the real line with almost-periodic displacement. An important problem in this context is to know whether the considered system is semiconjugate to a r…
We study the linear cohomological equation in the smooth category over quasi-periodic cocycles in $\mathbb{T} ^{d} \times SU(2)$. We prove that, under a full measure condition on the rotation in $\mathbb{T} ^{d}$, for a generic cocycle in an open set of cocycles, the equation admits a solution for a dense set of functions on $\mathbb{T} ^{d} \times SU(2)$ of zero average with respect to the Haar measure. This property is known as Distributional Unique Ergodicity (DUE). We then show that given such a cocycle, for a generic function no such solution exists. We thus confirm in this context a conj…
In this mémoire we study quasiperiodic cocycles in semi-simple compact Lie groups. For the greatest part of our study, we will focus ourselves to one-frequency cocyles. We will prove that $C^{\infty}$ reducible cocycles are dense in the $C^{\infty}$ topology, for a full measure set of frequencies. Moreover, we will show that every cocycle (or an appropriate iterate of it, if homotopy appears as an obstruction) is almost torus-reducible (i.e. can be conjugated arbitrarily close to cocycles taking values in an abelian subgroup of G). In the course of the proof we will firstly define two invarian…
We give a simple proof of Kolmogorov's theorem on the persistence of a quasiperiodic invariant torus in Hamiltonian systems. The theorem is first reduced to a well-posed inversion problem (Herman's normal form) by switching the frequency obstruction from one side of the conjugacy to another. Then the proof consists in applying a simple, well suited, inverse function theorem in the analytic category, which itself relies on the Newton algorithm and on interpolation inequalities. A comparison with other proofs is included in appendix.
The existence of non-continuous invariant graphs (or strange non-chaotic attractors) in quasiperiodically forced systems has generated great interest, but there are still very few rigorous results about the properties of these objects. In particular, it is not known whether the topological closure of such graphs is typically a filled-in set, i.e consists of a single interval on every fibre, or not. We give a positive answer to this question for the class of so-called pinched skew products, where non-continuous invariant graphs occur generically, provided the rotation number on the base is diop…
We study the notion of stochastic stability with respect to diffusive perturbations for flows with smooth invariant measures. We investigate the question fully for non-singular flows on the circle. We also show that volume-preserving flows are stochastically stable with respect to perturbations that are associated with homogeneous diffusions.
The aim of this paper is to give a condition to topological conjugacy of invariant flows in an Lie group $G$ which its Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ is associative algebra or semisimple. In fact, we show that if two dynamical system on $G$ are hyperbolic, then they are topological conjugate.
Our main is to study periodic orbits of linear and invariant flows on a real, connected Lie group. Since each linear flow $φ_t$ has a derivation associated $\mathcal{D}$, we show that the existence of periodic orbits of $φ_t$ is based on the eigenvalues of the derivation $\mathcal{D}$. From this, we study periodic orbits of a linear flow on noncompact, semisimple Lie groups, and we work with periodic orbits of a linear flow on connected, simply connected, solvable Lie groups of dimension 2 or 3.
We investigate the invariant probability measures for Cherry flows, i.e. flows on the two-torus which have a saddle, a source, and no other fixed points, closed orbits or homoclinic orbits. In the case when the saddle is dissipative or conservative we show that the only invariant probability measures are the Dirac measures at the two fixed points, and the Dirac measure at the saddle is the physical measure. In the other case we prove that there exists also an invariant probability measure supported on the quasi-minimal set, we discuss some situations when this other invariant measure is the ph…
Confined active nematics exhibit rich dynamical behavior, including spontaneous flows, periodic defect dynamics, and chaotic `active turbulence'. Here, we study these phenomena using the framework of Exact Coherent Structures, which has been successful in characterizing the routes to high Reynolds number turbulence of passive fluids. Exact Coherent Structures are stationary, periodic, quasiperiodic, or traveling wave solutions of the hydrodynamic equations that, together with their invariant manifolds, serve as an organizing template of the dynamics. We compute the dominant Exact Coherent Stru…
The main result of this work is the following: for volume preserving flows on compact manifolds with the $C^r$ topology, $1 \leqq r \leqq \infty$ , the closure of every invariant manifold of periodic orbits and singularities is a chain transitive set. We also develop to new local constructions, which surprise by the simplicity of the arguments. One, a local perturbation to change an orbit to a nearby without altering its past. The other is a flow box theorem in the context of volume preserving flows, a result that is well known for Hamiltonians or general flows.
Generalizing a construction of A. Weil, we introduce a topological invariant for flows on compact, connected, finite dimensional, abelian, topological groups. We calculate this invariant for some examples and compare the invariant with other flow invariants.
We study a refined version of the Linnik problem on the asymptotic behavior of the number of representations of integer $m$ by an integral polynomial as $m$ tends to infinity. We assume that the polynomial arises from invariant theory, and use methods from the theory of unipotent flows.
In this paper we study the behavior of the Ricci flow at infinity for the full flag manifold $SU(3)/T$ using techniques of the qualitative theory of differential equations, in special the Poincaré Compactification and Lyapunov exponents. We prove that there are four invariant lines for the Ricci flow equation, each one associated with a singularity corresponding to a Einstein metric. In such manifold, the bi-invariant normal metric is Einstein. Moreover, around each invariant line there is a cylinder of initial conditions such that the limit metric under the Ricci flow is the corresponding Ein…
Let $S^{n}$ be the $n$-sphere of constant positive curvature. For $n \geq 2$, we will show that a measure on the unit tangent bundle of $S^{2n}$, which is even and invariant under the geodesic flow, is not uniquely determined by its projection to $S^{2n}$.
We show that on any compact Riemann surface with variable negative curvature there exists a measure which is invariant and ergodic under the geodesic flow and whose projection to the base manifold is 2-dimensional and singular with respect to the 2-dimensional Lebesgue measure.
