We show that, for a natural notion of quasirandomness in $k$-uniform hypergraphs, any quasirandom $k$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices with constant edge density and minimum vertex degree $Ω(n^{k-1})$ contains a loose Hamilton cycle. We also give a construction to show that a $k$-uniform hypergraph satisfying these conditions need not contain a Hamilton $\ell$-cycle if $k-\ell$ divides $k$. The remaining values of $\ell$ form an interesting open question.
Chung and Graham began the systematic study of k-uniform hypergraph quasirandom properties soon after the foundational results of Thomason and Chung-Graham-Wilson on quasirandom graphs. One feature that became apparent in the early work on k-uniform hypergraph quasirandomness is that properties that are equivalent for graphs are not equivalent for hypergraphs, and thus hypergraphs enjoy a variety of inequivalent quasirandom properties. In the past two decades, there has been an intensive study of these disparate notions of quasirandomness for hypergraphs, and an open problem that has emerged i…
Let p(k) denote the partition function of k. For each k >= 2, we describe a list of p(k)-1 quasirandom properties that a k-uniform hypergraph can have. Our work connects previous notions on linear hypergraph quasirandomness of Kohayakawa-Rödl-Skokan and Conlon-Hàn-Person-Schacht and the spectral approach of Friedman-Wigderson. For each of the quasirandom properties that are described, we define a largest and second largest eigenvalue. We show that a hypergraph satisfies these quasirandom properties if and only if it has a large spectral gap. This answers a question of Conlon-Hàn-Person-Schacht…
We prove that any quasirandom uniform hypergraph $H$ can be approximately decomposed into any collection of bounded degree hypergraphs with almost as many edges. In fact, our results also apply to multipartite hypergraphs and even to the sparse setting when the density of $H$ quickly tends to $0$ in terms of the number of vertices of $H$. Our results answer and address questions of Kim, Kühn, Osthus and Tyomkyn; and Glock, Kühn and Osthus as well as Keevash. The provided approximate decompositions exhibit strong quasirandom properties which is very useful for forthcoming applications. Our resu…
We investigate extremal problems for quasirandom hypergraphs. We say that a $3$-uniform hypergraph $H=(V,E)$ is $(d,η)$-quasirandom if for any subset $X\subseteq V$ and every set of pairs $P\subseteq V\times V$ the number of pairs $(x,(y,z))\in X\times P$ with $\{x,y,z\}$ being a hyperedge of $H$ is in the interval $d|X||P|\pmη|V|^3$. We show that for any $\varepsilon>0$ there exists $η>0$ such that every sufficiently large $(1/2+\varepsilon,η)$-quasirandom hypergraph contains a tetrahedron, i.e., four vertices spanning all four hyperedges. A known random construction shows that the density $1…
Chung, Graham, and Wilson proved that a graph is quasirandom if and only if there is a large gap between its first and second largest eigenvalue. Recently, the authors extended this characterization to k-uniform hypergraphs, but only for the so-called coregular k-uniform hypergraphs. In this paper, we extend this characterization to all k-uniform hypergraphs, not just the coregular ones. Specifically, we prove that if a k-uniform hypergraph satisfies the correct count of a specially defined four-cycle, then there is a gap between its first and second largest eigenvalue.
For each of the notions of hypergraph quasirandomness that have been studied, we identify a large class of hypergraphs F so that every quasirandom hypergraph H admits a perfect F-packing. An informal statement of a special case of our general result for 3-uniform hypergraphs is as follows. Fix an integer r >= 4 and 0<p<1. Suppose that H is an n-vertex triple system with r|n and the following two properties: * for every graph G with V(G)=V(H), at least p proportion of the triangles in G are also edges of H, * for every vertex x of H, the link graph of x is a quasirandom graph with density at le…
Let k >= 2 and F be a linear k-uniform hypergraph with v vertices. We prove that if n is sufficiently large and v|n, then every quasirandom k-uniform hypergraph on n vertices with constant edge density and minimum degree $Ω(n^{k-1})$ admits a perfect F-packing. The case k = 2 follows immediately from the blowup lemma of Komlós, Sárközy, and Szemerédi. We also prove positive results for some nonlinear F but at the same time give counterexamples for rather simple F that are close to being linear. Finally, we address the case when the density tends to zero, and prove (in analogy with the graph ca…
An $n$-vertex graph $G$ of edge density $p$ is considered to be quasirandom if it shares several important properties with the random graph $G(n,p)$. A well-known theorem of Chung, Graham and Wilson states that many such `typical' properties are asymptotically equivalent and, thus, a graph $G$ possessing one such property automatically satisfies the others. In recent years, work in this area has focused on uncovering more quasirandom graph properties and on extending the known results to other discrete structures. In the context of hypergraphs, however, one may consider several different notio…
We examine the correspondence between the various notions of quasirandomness for k-uniform hypergraphs and sigma-algebras related to measurable hypergraphs. This gives a uniform formulation of most of the notions of quasirandomness for dense hypergraphs which have been studied, with each notion of quasirandomness corresponding to a sigma-algebra defined by a collection of subsets of [1,k]. We associate each notion of quasirandomness I with a collection of hypergraphs, the I-adapted hypergraphs, so that G is quasirandom exactly when it contains roughly the correct number of copies of each I-ada…
Extremal problems for $3$-uniform hypergraphs are known to be very difficult and despite considerable effort the progress has been slow. We suggest a more systematic study of extremal problems in the context of quasirandom hypergraphs. We say that a $3$-uniform hypergraph $H=(V,E)$ is weakly $(d,η)$-quasirandom if for any subset $U\subseteq V$ the number of hyperedges of $H$ contained in $U$ is in the interval $d\binom{|U|}{3}\pmη|V|^3$. We show that for any $\varepsilon>0$ there exists $η>0$ such that every sufficiently large weakly $(1/4+\varepsilon,η)$-quasirandom hypergraph contains four v…
We employ the absorbing-path method in order to prove two results regarding the emergence of tight Hamilton cycles in the so called {\em two-path} or {\em cherry}-quasirandom $3$-graphs. Our first result asserts that for any fixed real $α>0$, cherry-quasirandom $3$-graphs of sufficiently large order $n$ having minimum $2$-degree at least $α(n-2)$ have a tight Hamilton cycle. Our second result concerns the minimum $1$-degree sufficient for such $3$-graphs to have a tight Hamilton cycle. Roughly speaking, we prove that for every $d,α>0$ satisfying $d + α>1$, any sufficiently large $n$-vertex suc…
The theory of quasirandomness has greatly expanded from its inaugural graph theoretical setting to several different combinatorial objects such as hypergraphs, tournaments, permutations, etc. However, these quasirandomness variants have been done in an ad-hoc case-by-case manner. In this paper, we propose three new hierarchies of quasirandomness properties that can be naturally defined for arbitrary combinatorial objects. Our properties are also "natural" in more formal sense: they are preserved by local combinatorial constructions (encoded by open interpretations). We show that our quasirando…
We show that a quasirandom $k$-uniform hypergraph $G$ has a tight Euler tour subject to the necessary condition that $k$ divides all vertex degrees. The case when $G$ is complete confirms a conjecture of Chung, Diaconis and Graham from 1989 on the existence of universal cycles for the $k$-subsets of an $n$-set.
We describe a method that we believe may be foundational for a comprehensive theory of generalised Turan problems. The cornerstone of our approach is a quasirandom counting lemma for quasirandom hypergraphs, which extends the standard counting lemma by not only counting copies of a particular configuration but also showing that these copies are evenly distributed. We demonstrate the power of the method by proving a conjecture of Mubayi on the codegree threshold of the Fano plane, that any 3-graph on n vertices for which every pair of vertices is contained in more than n/2 edges must contain a …
Suppose a $k$-uniform hypergraph $H$ that satisfies a certain regularity instance (that is, there is a partition of $H$ given by the hypergraph regularity lemma into a bounded number of quasirandom subhypergraphs of prescribed densities). We prove that with high probability a large enough uniform random sample of the vertex set of $H$ also admits the same regularity instance. Here the crucial feature is that the error term measuring the quasirandomness of the subhypergraphs requires only an arbitrarily small additive correction. This has applications to combinatorial property testing. The grap…
Motivated by longstanding conjectures regarding decompositions of graphs into paths and cycles, we prove the following optimal decomposition results for random graphs. Let $0<p<1$ be constant and let $G\sim G_{n,p}$. Let $odd(G)$ be the number of odd degree vertices in $G$. Then a.a.s. the following hold: (i) $G$ can be decomposed into $\lfloorΔ(G)/2\rfloor$ cycles and a matching of size $odd(G)/2$. (ii) $G$ can be decomposed into $\max\{odd(G)/2,\lceilΔ(G)/2\rceil\}$ paths. (iii) $G$ can be decomposed into $\lceilΔ(G)/2\rceil$ linear forests. Each of these bounds is best possible. We actually…
A famous result by Rödl, Ruciński, and Szemerédi guarantees a (tight) Hamilton cycle in $k$-uniform hypergraphs $H$ on $n$ vertices with minimum $(k-1)$-degree $δ_{k-1}(H)\geq (1/2+o(1))n$, thereby extending Dirac's result from graphs to hypergraphs. For graphs, much more is known; each graph on $n$ vertices with $δ(G)\geq (1/2+o(1))n$ contains $(1-o(1))r$ edge-disjoint Hamilton cycles where $r$ is the largest integer such that $G$ contains a spanning $2r$-regular subgraph, which is clearly asymptotically optimal. This was proved by Ferber, Krivelevich, and Sudakov answering a question raised …
We solve the existence problem for $F$-designs for arbitrary $r$-uniform hypergraphs~$F$. This implies that given any $r$-uniform hypergraph~$F$, the trivially necessary divisibility conditions are sufficient to guarantee a decomposition of any sufficiently large complete $r$-uniform hypergraph into edge-disjoint copies of~$F$, which answers a question asked e.g.~by Keevash. The graph case $r=2$ was proved by Wilson in 1975 and forms one of the cornerstones of design theory. The case when~$F$ is complete corresponds to the existence of block designs, a problem going back to the 19th century, w…
We prove that every 52-connected line graph of a rank 3 hypergraph is Hamiltonian. This is the first result of this type for hypergraphs of bounded rank other than ordinary graphs.
We study sufficient conditions for Hamiltonian cycles in hypergraphs, and obtain both Turán- and Dirac-type results. While the Turán-type result gives an exact threshold for the appearance of a Hamiltonian cycle in a hypergraph depending only on the extremal number of a certain path, the Dirac-type result yields a sufficient condition relying solely on the minimum vertex degree.
In this paper we show that $e/n$ is the sharp threshold for the existence of tight Hamilton cycles in random $k$-uniform hypergraphs, for all $k\ge 4$. When $k=3$ we show that $1/n$ is an asymptotic threshold. We also determine thresholds for the existence of other types of Hamilton cycles.
We consider a robust variant of Dirac-type problems in $k$-uniform hypergraphs. For instance, we prove that if $H$ is a $k$-uniform hypergraph with minimum codegree at least $(1/2 + γ)n$, $γ>0$, and $n$ is sufficiently large, then any edge coloring $ϕ$ satisfying appropriate local constraints yields a properly colored tight Hamilton cycle in $H$. Similar results for loose cycles are also shown.
We show that every $3$-uniform hypergraph $H=(V,E)$ with $|V(H)|=n$ and minimum pair degree at least $(4/5+o(1))n$ contains a squared Hamiltonian cycle. This may be regarded as a first step towards a hypergraph version of the Pósa-Seymour conjecture.
We prove that for integers $2 \leq \ell < k$ and a small constant $c$, if a $k$-uniform hypergraph with linear minimum codegree is randomly `perturbed' by changing non-edges to edges independently at random with probability $p \geq O(n^{-(k-\ell)-c})$, then with high probability the resulting $k$-uniform hypergraph contains a Hamilton $\ell$-cycle. This complements a recent analogous result for Hamilton $1$-cycles due to Krivelevich, Kwan and Sudakov, and a comparable theorem in the graph case due to Bohman, Frieze and Martin.
We investigate minimum vertex degree conditions for $3$-uniform hypergraphs which ensure the existence of loose Hamilton cycles. A loose Hamilton cycle is a spanning cycle in which only consecutive edges intersect and these intersections consist of precisely one vertex. We prove that every $3$-uniform $n$-vertex ($n$ even) hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$ with minimum vertex degree $δ_1(\mathcal{H})\geq \left(\frac7{16}+o(1)\right)\binom{n}{2}$ contains a loose Hamilton cycle. This bound is asymptotically best possible.
We say that a $k$-uniform hypergraph $C$ is a Hamilton cycle of type $\ell$, for some $1\le \ell \le k$, if there exists a cyclic ordering of the vertices of $C$ such that every edge consists of $k$ consecutive vertices and for every pair of consecutive edges $E_{i-1},E_i$ in $C$ (in the natural ordering of the edges) we have $|E_{i-1}\setminus E_i|=\ell$. We define a class of $(\e,p)$-regular hypergraphs, that includes random hypergraphs, for which we can prove the existence of a decomposition of almost all edges into type $\ell$ Hamilton cycles, where $\ell<k/2$.
Given a set $R$, a hypergraph is $R$-uniform if the size of every hyperedge belongs to $R$. A hypergraph $\mathcal{H}$ is called \textit{covering} if every vertex pair is contained in some hyperedge in $\mathcal{H}$. In this note, we show that every covering $[3]$-uniform hypergraph on $n\geq 6$ vertices contains a Berge cycle $C_s$ for any $3\leq s\leq n$. As an application, we determine the maximum Lagrangian of $k$-uniform Berge-$C_{t}$-free hypergraphs and Berge-$P_{t}$-free hypergraphs.
We prove that any k-uniform hypergraph on n vertices with minimum degree at least n/(2(k-1))+o(n) contains a loose Hamilton cycle. The proof strategy is similar to that used by Kühn and Osthus for the 3-uniform case. Though some additional difficulties arise in the k-uniform case, our argument here is considerably simplified by applying the recent hypergraph blow-up lemma of Keevash.
In the random hypergraph $H_{n,p;k}$ each possible $k$-tuple appears independently with probability $p$. A loose Hamilton cycle is a cycle in which every pair of adjacent edges intersects in a single vertex. We prove that if $p n^{k-1}/\log n$ tends to infinity with $n$ then $$\lim_{\substack{n\to \infty 2(k-1) |n}}\Pr(H_{n,p;k}\ contains\ a\ loose\ Hamilton\ cycle)=1.$$ This is asymptotically best possible.
In the random hypergraph H=H(n,p;3) each possible triple appears independently with probability p. A loose Hamilton cycle can be described as a sequence of edges {x_i,y_i,x_{i+1}\} for i=1,2,...,n/2. We prove that there exists an absolute constant K>0 such that if p>K\log n/n^2 then lim_{n->oo 4 |n}}Pr(H(n,p;3) contains a loose Hamilton cycle)=1.
We show that every 4-uniform hypergraph with $n$ vertices and minimum pair degree at least $(5/9+o(1))n^2/2$ contains a tight Hamiltonian cycle. This degree condition is asymptotically optimal.
For $1\le d\le \ell< k$, we give a new lower bound for the minimum $d$-degree threshold that guarantees a Hamilton $\ell$-cycle in $k$-uniform hypergraphs. When $k\ge 4$ and $d< \ell=k-1$, this bound is larger than the conjectured minimum $d$-degree threshold for perfect matchings and thus disproves a well-known conjecture of Rödl and Ruciński. Our (simple) construction generalizes a construction of Katona and Kierstead and the space barrier for Hamilton cycles.
We show that every 3-uniform hypergraph with $n$ vertices and minimum vertex degree at least $(5/9+o(1))\binom{n}2$ contains a tight Hamiltonian cycle. Known lower bound constructions show that this degree condition is asymptotically optimal.
The famous Dirac's Theorem gives an exact bound on the minimum degree of an $n$-vertex graph guaranteeing the existence of a hamiltonian cycle. We prove exact bounds of similar type for hamiltonian Berge cycles in $r$-uniform, $n$-vertex hypergraphs for all $3\leq r< n$. The bounds are different for $r<n/2$ and $r\geq n/2$. We also give bounds on the minimum degree guaranteeing existence of Berge cycles of length at least $k$ in such hypergraphs; the bounds are exact for all $k\geq n/2$.
We study sufficient conditions for the existence of Hamilton cycles in uniformly dense $3$-uniform hypergraphs. Problems of this type were first considered by Lenz, Mubayi, and Mycroft for loose Hamilton cycles and Aigner-Horev and Levy considered it for tight Hamilton cycles for a fairly strong notion of uniformly dense hypergraphs. We focus on tight cycles and obtain optimal results for a weaker notion of uniformly dense hypergraphs. We show that if an $n$-vertex $3$-uniform hypergraph $H=(V,E)$ has the property that for any set of vertices $X$ and for any collection $P$ of pairs of vertices…
We establish a precise characterisation of $4$-uniform hypergraphs with minimum codegree close to $n/2$ which contain a Hamilton $2$-cycle. As an immediate corollary we identify the exact Dirac threshold for Hamilton $2$-cycles in $4$-uniform hypergraphs. Moreover, by derandomising the proof of our characterisation we provide a polynomial-time algorithm which, given a $4$-uniform hypergraph $H$ with minimum codegree close to $n/2$, either finds a Hamilton $2$-cycle in $H$ or provides a certificate that no such cycle exists. This surprising result stands in contrast to the graph setting, in whi…
We define and study a special type of hypergraph. A $σ$-hypergraph $H= H(n,r,q$ $\mid$ $σ$), where $σ$ is a partition of $r$, is an $r$-uniform hypergraph having $nq$ vertices partitioned into $ n$ classes of $q$ vertices each. If the classes are denoted by $V_1$, $V_2$,...,$V_n$, then a subset $K$ of $V(H)$ of size $r$ is an edge if the partition of $r$ formed by the non-zero cardinalities $ \mid$ $K$ $\cap$ $V_i \mid$, $ 1 \leq i \leq n$, is $σ$. The non-empty intersections $K$ $\cap$ $V_i$ are called the parts of $K$, and $s(σ)$ denotes the number of parts. We consider various types of cycl…
We show that every $k$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices whose minimum $(k-2)$-degree is at least $(5/9+o(1))n^2/2$ contains a Hamiltonian cycle. A construction due to Han and Zhao shows that this minimum degree condition is optimal. The same result was proved independently by Lang and Sahueza-Matamala.
We say that a $k$-uniform hypergraph $C$ is a Hamilton cycle of type $\ell$, for some $1\le \ell \le k$, if there exists a cyclic ordering of the vertices of $C$ such that every edge consists of $k$ consecutive vertices and for every pair of consecutive edges $E_{i-1},E_i$ in $C$ (in the natural ordering of the edges) we have $|E_{i-1}-E_i|=\ell$. We prove that for $\ell \le k\le 2\ell$, with high probability almost all edges of a random $k$-uniform hypergraph $H(n,p,k)$ with $p(n)\gg \log^2 n/n$ can be decomposed into edge disjoint type $\ell$ Hamilton cycles. We also provide sufficient condi…
We give an algorithmic proof for the existence of tight Hamilton cycles in a random r-uniform hypergraph with edge probability p=n^{-1+eps} for every eps>0. This partly answers a question of Dudek and Frieze [Random Structures Algorithms], who used a second moment method to show that tight Hamilton cycles exist even for p=omega(n)/n (r>2) where omega(n) tends to infinity arbitrary slowly, and for p=(e+o(1))/n (r>3). The method we develop for proving our result applies to related problems as well.
For $1\le \ell<k/2$, we show that for sufficiently large $n$, every $k$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices with minimum codegree at least $\frac n{2 (k-\ell)} $ contains a Hamilton $\ell$-cycle. This codegree condition is best possible and improves on work of Hàn and Schacht who proved an asymptotic result.
We prove a new sufficient pair degree condition for tight Hamiltonian cycles in $3$-uniform hypergraphs that (asymptotically) improves the best known pair degree condition due to Rödl, Ruciński, and Szemerédi. For graphs, Chvátal characterised all those sequences of integers for which every pointwise larger (or equal) degree sequence guarantees the existence of a Hamiltonian cycle. A step towards Chvátal's theorem was taken by Pósa, who improved on Dirac's tight minimum degree condition for Hamiltonian cycles by showing that a certain weaker condition on the degree sequence of a graph already …
We show that for sufficiently large $n$, every 3-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices with minimum vertex degree at least $\binom{n-1}2 - \binom{\lfloor\frac34 n\rfloor}2 + c$, where $c=2$ if $n\in 4\mathbb{N}$ and $c=1$ if $n\in 2\mathbb{N}\setminus 4\mathbb{N}$, contains a loose Hamilton cycle. This degree condition is best possible and improves on the work of Buß, Hàn and Schacht who proved the corresponding asymptotical result.
An {\em $\ell$-offset Hamilton cycle} $C$ in a $k$-uniform hypergraph $H$ on~$n$ vertices is a collection of edges of $H$ such that for some cyclic order of $[n]$ every pair of consecutive edges $E_{i-1},E_i$ in $C$ (in the natural ordering of the edges) satisfies $|E_{i-1}\cap E_i|=\ell$ and every pair of consecutive edges $E_{i},E_{i+1}$ in $C$ satisfies $|E_{i}\cap E_{i+1}|=k-\ell$. We show that in general $\sqrt{e^{k}\ell!(k-\ell)!/n^k}$ is the sharp threshold for the existence of the $\ell$-offset Hamilton cycle in the random $k$-uniform hypergraph $H_{n,p}^{(k)}$. We also examine this st…
Given $s \ge k\ge 3$, let $h^{(k)}(s)$ be the minimum $t$ such that there exist arbitrarily large $k$-uniform hypergraphs $H$ whose independence number is at most polylogarithmic in the number of vertices and in which every $s$ vertices span at most $t$ edges. Erd\H os and Hajnal conjectured (1972) that $h^{(k)}(s)$ can be calculated precisely using a recursive formula and Erd\H os offered \$500 for a proof of this. For $k=3$ this has been settled for many values of $s$ including powers of three but it was not known for any $k\geq 4$ and $s\geq k+2$. Here we settle the conjecture for all $s \g…
Let H be a 3-uniform hypergraph with N vertices. A tight Hamilton cycle C \subset H is a collection of N edges for which there is an ordering of the vertices v_1, ..., v_N such that every triple of consecutive vertices {v_i, v_{i+1}, v_{i+2}} is an edge of C (indices are considered modulo N). We develop new techniques which enable us to prove that under certain natural pseudo-random conditions, almost all edges of H can be covered by edge-disjoint tight Hamilton cycles, for N divisible by 4. Consequently, we derive the corollary that random 3-uniform hypergraphs can be almost completely packed…
In this note, we study the emergence of Hamiltonian Berge cycles in random $r$-uniform hypergraphs. For $r\geq 3$, we prove an optimal stopping-time result that if edges are sequently added to an initially empty $r$-graph, then as soon as the minimum degree is at least 2, the hypergraph almost surely has such a cycle. In particular, this determines the threshold probability for Berge Hamiltonicity of the Erdős--Rényi random $r$-graph, and we also show that the $2$-out random $r$-graph almost surely has such a cycle. We obtain similar results for \textit{weak Berge} cycles as well, thus resolvi…
For integers $k\ge 3$ and $1\le \ell\le k-1$, we prove that for any $α>0$, there exist $ε>0$ and $C>0$ such that for sufficiently large $n\in (k-\ell)\mathbb{N}$, the union of a $k$-uniform hypergraph with minimum vertex degree $αn^{k-1}$ and a binomial random $k$-uniform hypergraph $\mathbb{G}^{(k)}(n,p)$ with $p\ge n^{-(k-\ell)-ε}$ for $\ell\ge 2$ and $p\ge C n^{-(k-1)}$ for $\ell=1$ on the same vertex set contains a Hamiltonian $\ell$-cycle with high probability. Our result is best possible up to the values of $ε$ and $C$ and answers a question of Krivelevich, Kwan and Sudakov.
For integers $k \geq 3$ and $r\geq 2$, we show that for every $α> 0$, there exists $\varepsilon > 0$ such that the union of $k$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices with minimum codegree at least $αn$ and a binomial random $k$-uniform hypergraph $G^{(k)}(n,p)$ with $p\geq n^{-{\binom{k+r-2}{k-1}}^{-1}-\varepsilon}$ on the same vertex set contains the $r^{th}$ power of a tight Hamilton cycle with high probability. Moreover, a construction shows that one cannot take $\varepsilon > Cα$, where $C=C(k,r)$ is a constant. Thus the bound on $p$ is optimal up to the value of $\varepsilon$ and this answer…
It has been conjectured that for any fixed r and sufficiently large n, there is a monochromatic Hamiltonian Berge-cycle in every (r - 1)-coloring of the edges of the complete r-uniform hypergraph on n vertices. In this paper, we show that the statement of this conjecture is true with r-2 colors (instead of r-1 colors) by showing that there is a monochromatic Hamiltonian t-tight Berge-cycle in every b r-2 / t-1 -edge coloring of Kr n for any fixed r > t >= 2 and sufficiently large n. Also, we give a proof for this conjecture when r = 4 (the first open case). These results improve the previously…
