We continue the work initiated in arXiv:1206.3645, where we introduced a new stable symmetric monoidal $(\infty,1)$-category $SH_{nc}$ encoding a motivic stable homotopy theory for the noncommutative spaces of Kontsevich and obtained a canonical monoidal colimit-preserving functor $SH\to SH_{nc}$ relating this new theory to the $(\infty,1)$-category encoding the stable motivic $\mathbb{A}^1$ theory of Morel-Voevodsky. For a scheme $X$ this map recovers the dg-derived category of perfect complexes $L_{pe}(X)$.
In this sequel we address the study of the different flavours of algebraic $K$-theory of dg-categories. As in the commutative case, these can be understood as spectral valued $\infty$-presheaves over the category of noncommutative smooth spaces and therefore provide objects in $SH_{nc}$ once properly localized. Our first main result is the description of non-connective $K$-theory of dg-categories introduced by Schlichting as the noncommutative Nisnevich sheafification of connective $K$-theory. In particular it follows that its further $\mathbb{A}^1$-localization is an object in $SH_{nc}$. As a corollary of the recent result in A. Blanc Phd thesis, we prove that this object is a unit for the monoidal structure.
Using this, we obtain a precise proof for a conjecture of Kontsevich claiming that $K$-theory gives the correct mapping spaces in noncommutative motives. As a second corollary we obtain a factorization of our comparison map $SH\to SH_{nc}$ through $Mod_{KH}(SH)$ - the $(\infty,1)$-category of modules over the commutative algebra object $KH$ representing homotopy invariant algebraic $K$-theory of schemes in $SH$. If $k$ is a field admitting resolutions of singularities, this factorization is fully faithful, so that, at the motivic level, no information (below $K$-theory) is lost by passing to the noncommutative world.
We introduce a tower of localizing subcategories in Voevodsky's big (closed under infinite coproducts) triangulated category of motives. We show that the tower induces an interesting finite filtration on the motivic cohomology groups of smooth schemes over a perfect field. With rational coefficients, this finite filtration satisfies several of the properties of the still conjectural Bloch-Beilinson-Murre filtration.
We prove: if the (étale or de Rham) realization functor is conservative on the category $DM_{gm}$ of Voevodsky motives with rational coefficients then motivic zeta functions of arbitrary varieties are rational and numerical motives are Kimura-finite. The latter statement immediately implies that the category of numerical motives is (essentially) Tannakian. This observation becomes actual due to the recent announcement of J. Ayoub that the De Rham cohomology realization is conservative on $DM_{gm}(k)$ whenever $\operatorname{char} k=0$. We apply this statement to exterior powers of motives comi…
We introduce the notion of log motivic triangulated categories, which is the theoretical framework for understanding the motivic aspect of cohomology theories for fs log schemes. Then we study the Grothendieck six operations formalism for log motivic triangulated categories.
The goal of this paper is to prove: if certain 'standard' conjectures on motives over algebraically closed fields hold, then over any 'reasonable' $S$ there exists a motivic $t$-structure for the category of Voevodsky's $S$-motives (as constructed by Cisinski and Deglise). If $S$ is 'very reasonable' (for example, of finite type over a field) then the heart of this $t$-structure (the category of mixed motivic sheaves over $S$) is endowed with a weight filtration with semi-simple factors. We also prove a certain 'motivic decomposition theorem' (assuming the conjectures mentioned) and characteri…
We introduce in this work the notion of the category of pure $\mathbf{E}$-Motives, where $\mathbf{E}$ is a motivic strict ring spectrum and construct twisted $\mathbf{E}$-cohomology by using six functors formalism of J. Ayoub. In particular, we construct the category of pure Chow-Witt motives $CHW(k)_{\mathbb{Q}}$ over a field $k$ and show that this category admits a fully faithful embedding into the geometric stable $\mathbb{A}^1$-derived category $D_{\mathbb{A}^1,gm}(k)_{\mathbb{Q}}$.
We study the Milnor-Witt motives which are a finite direct sum of $\mathbb{Z}(q)[p]$ and $\mathbb{Z}/η(q)[p]$. We show that for MW-motives of this type, we could determine an MW-motivic cohomology class in terms of a motivic cohomology class and a Witt cohomology class. We define the motivic Bockstein cohomology and show that it corresponds to subgroup of Witt cohomology, if the MW-motive splits as above. As an application, we give the splitting formula of Milnor-Witt motives of Grassmannian bundles and complete flag bundles. This in particular shows that the integral cohomology of real comple…
Making use of noncommutative motives we relate exceptional collections (and more generally semi-orthogonal decompositions) to motivic decompositions. On one hand we prove that the Chow motive M(X) of every smooth proper Deligne-Mumford stack X, whose bounded derived category D(X) of coherent schemes admits a full exceptional collection, decomposes into a direct sum of tensor powers of the Lefschetz motive. Examples include projective spaces, quadrics, toric varieties, homogeneous spaces, Fano threefolds, and moduli spaces. On the other hand we prove that if M(X) decomposes into a direct sum of…
We start by developing a theory of noncommutative (=NC) mixed motives with coefficients in any commutative ring. In particular, we construct a symmetric monoidal triangulated category of NC mixed motives, over a base field k, and a full subcategory of NC mixed Artin motives. Making use of Hochschild homology, we then apply Ayoub's weak Tannakian formalism to these motivic categories. In the case of NC mixed motives, we obtain a motivic Hopf dg algebra, which we describe explicitly in terms of Hochschild homology and complexes of exact cubes. In the case of NC mixed Artin motives, we compute th…
Given a 0-connective motivic spectrum $E \in SH(k)$ over a perfect field k, we determine $h_0$ of the associated motive $M E \in DM(k)$ in terms of $π_0 (E)$. Using this we show that if k has finite 2-étale cohomological dimension, then the functor M is conservative when restricted to the subcategory of compact spectra, and induces an injection on Picard groups. We extend the conservativity result to fields of finite virtual 2-étale cohomological dimension by considering what we call "real motives". As a by-product we reprove a variant of a rigidity Theorem of Röndings-Østvær.
A kind of motivic algebra of spectral categories and modules over them is developed to introduce K-motives of algebraic varieties. As an application, bivariant algebraic K-theory as well as bivariant motivic kohomology groups are defined and studied. We use Grayson's machinery to produce the Grayson motivic spectral sequence connecting bivariant K-theory to bivariant motivic kohomology. It is shown that the spectral sequence is naturally realized in the triangulated category of K-motives constructed in the paper. It is also shown that ordinary algebraic K-theory is represented by the K-motive …
We prove 2-out-of-3 property for rationality of motivic zeta function in distinguished triangles in Voevodsky's category DM. As an application, we show rationality of motivic zeta functions for all varieties whose motives are in the thick triangulated monoidal subcategory generated by motives of quasi-projective curves in DM. Joint with a result of P.O'Sullivan it also gives an example of a variety whose motive is not finite-dimensional while the motivic zeta function is rational.
This paper proves the Beilinson-Soul{é} vanishing conjecture for motives attached to the moduli spaces of curves of genus 0 with n marked points. As part of the proof, it is also proved that these motives are mixed Tate. As a consequence of Levine's work, one obtains then well defined categories of mixed Tate motives over the moduli spaces of curves . It is shown that morphisms between moduli spaces forgetting marked points and embedding as boundary components induce functors between those categories and how tangential bases points fit in these functorialities. Tannakian formalism attaches gro…
In this article we introduce the local versions of the Voevodsky category of motives with Z/p-coefficients over a field k, parameterized by finitely-generated extensions of k. We introduce the, so-called, flexible fields, passage to which is conservative on motives. We demonstrate that, over flexible fields, the constructed local motivic categories are much simpler than the global one and more reminiscent of a topological counterpart. This provides handy "local" invariants from which one can read motivic information. We compute the local motivic cohomology of a point, for p=2, and study the lo…
In this article we study the subgroup of the Picard group of Voevodsky's category of geometric motives generated by the reduced motives of affine quadrics. Our main tools here are the functors of Bachmann, but we also provide an alternative method. We show that the group in question can be described in terms of indecomposable direct summands in the motives of projective quadrics. In particular, we describe all the relations among the reduced motives of affine quadrics. We also extend the Criterion of motivic equivalence of projective quadrics.
For an oriented cohomology theory A and a relative cellular space X, we decompose the A-motive of X into a direct sum of twisted motives of the base spaces. We also obtain respective decompositions of the A-cohomology of X. Applying them, one can compute A(X), where X is an isotropic projective homogeneous variety and A means algebraic K-theory, motivic cohomology or algebraic cobordism MGL.

In this article we further the study of noncommutative numerical motives. By exploring the change-of-coefficients mechanism, we start by improving some of our previous main results. Then, making use of the notion of Schur-finiteness, we prove that the category NNum(k)_F of noncommutative numerical motives is (neutral) super-Tannakian. As in the commutative world, NNum(k)_F is not Tannakian. In order to solve this problem we promote periodic cyclic homology to a well-defined symmetric monoidal functor HP on the category of noncommutative Chow motives. This allows us to introduce the correct non…
In this note we relate the notions of Lefschetz type, decomposability, and isomorphism, on Chow motives with the notions of unit type, decomposability, and isomorphism, on noncommutative motives. Examples, counter-examples, and applications are also described.
In this article we formalize and enhance Kontsevich's beautiful insight that Chow motives can be embedded into non-commutative ones after factoring out by the action of the Tate object. We illustrate the potential of this result by developing three of its manyfold applications: (1) the notions of Schur and Kimura finiteness admit an adequate extension to the realm of non-commutative motives; (2) Gillet-Soule's motivic measure admits an extension to the Grothendieck ring of non-commutative motives; (3) certain motivic zeta functions admit an intrinsic construction inside the category of non-com…
We describe certain criteria for a motif $M$ to be $r$-effective, i.e., to belong to the $r$th Tate twist $Obj DM^{eff}_{gm,R}(r)=Obj DM^{eff}_{gm,R} \otimes L^{\otimes r}$ of effective Voevodsky motives (for $r\ge 1$; $R$ is the coefficient ring). In particular, $M$ is 1-effective if and only if a complex whose terms are certain Chow groups of zero-cycles is acyclic. The dual to this statement checks whether an effective motif $M$ belongs to the subcategory of $DM^{eff}_{gm,R}$ generated by motives of varieties of dimension $\le r$. These criteria are formulated in terms of the Chow-weight (c…
In this short note we show how results of Orlov and Toën imply that any equivalence between the derived categories of coherent sheaves on two varieties lifts to an equivalence at the level of dg-categories. This establishes the link between the noncommutative geometry practised by the school of Bondal-Orlov, and the variant developed by Kontsevich and Tabuada. As an application we recover Orlov's result that the derived category determines the Chow motive with rational coefficients up to Tate twists.
Using the theory of framed correspondences developed by Voevodsky, we introduce and study framed motives of algebraic varieties. They are the major computational tool for constructing an explicit quasi-fibrant motivic replacement of the suspension $\mathbb P^1$-spectrum of any smooth scheme $X\in Sm/k$. Moreover, it is shown that the bispectrum $$(M_{fr}(X),M_{fr}(X)(1),M_{fr}(X)(2),\ldots),$$ each term of which is a twisted framed motive of $X$, has motivic homotopy type of the suspension bispectrum of $X$. Furthermore, an explicit computation of infinite $\mathbb P^1$-loop motivic spaces is …
This paper is dedicated to the study of the kernel of the "compact motivization" functor $M_{k}^c:SH^c(k)\to DM^c(k)$ (i.e., we try to describe those compact objects of $SH(k)$ whose associated motives vanish. Moreover, we study the question when the $m$-connectivity of $M^c_{k}(E)$ ensures the $m$-connectivity of $E$ itself (with respect to the corresponding homotopy t-structures). We prove that the kernel of $M_{k}^c$ vanishes and the corresponding "connectivity detection" statement is also valid if and only if $k$ is a non-orderable field; this is an easy consequence of the corresponding re…
These are the extended notes of a survey talk on noncommutative motives given at the 3era Escuela de Inverno Luis Santalo - CIMPA Research School: Topics in Noncommutative Geometry, Buenos Aires, July 26 to August 6, 2010.
We construct and study a candidate for the standard motivic t-structure on the triangulated category of relative cohomological 1-motives with rational coefficients over a noetherian finite dimensional scheme S. This t-structure is defined as a generated t-structure, and we show it is non-degenerate. We relate its heart MM^1(S) with Deligne 1-motives over S; in particular, when S is regular, the category of Deligne 1-motives embeds in MM^1(S) fully faithfully. We also study the inclusion of DA^1(S) into the larger category DA^{coh}(S) of relative cohomological motives on S, and prove that its r…
We describe a construction of an object associated to the fundamental group of the projective line minus three points in the Bloch-Kriz category of mixed Tate motives. This description involves Massey products of Steinberg symbols in the motivic cohomology of the ground field.
In this note we endow Kontsevich's category KMM of noncommutative mixed motives with a non-degenerate weight structure in the sense of Bondarko. As an application we obtain a convergent weight spectral sequence for every additive invariant (e.g. algebraic K-theory, cyclic homology, topological Hochschild homology, etc.), and a ring isomorphism between the Grothendieck ring of KMM and the Grothendieck ring of the category of noncommutative Chow motives.
In this note we prove that Kontsevich's category NCnum of noncommutative numerical motives is equivalent to the one constructed by the authors. As a consequence, we conclude that NCnum is abelian semi-simple as conjectured by Kontsevich.
In this article we further the study of the relationship between pure motives and noncommutative motives. Making use of Hochschild homology, we introduce the category NNum(k)_F of noncommutative numerical motives (over a base ring k and with coefficients in a field F). We prove that NNum(k)_F is abelian semi-simple and that Grothendieck's category Num(k)_Q of numerical motives embeds in NNum(k)_Q after being factored out by the action of the Tate object. As an application we obtain an alternative proof of Jannsen's semi-simplicity result, which uses the noncommutative world instead of a Weil c…
We propose a construction of a tensor exact category F_X^m of Artin-Tate motivic sheaves with finite coefficients Z/m over an algebraic variety X (over a field K of characteristic prime to m) in terms of etale sheaves of Z/m-modules over X. Among the objects of F_X^m, in addition to the Tate motives Z/m(j), there are the cohomological relative motives with compact support M_cc^m(Y/X) of varieties Y quasi-finite over X. Exact functors of inverse image with respect to morphisms of algebraic varieties and direct image with compact supports with respect to quasi-finite morphisms of varieties Y\to …
We present a version of projective bundle theorem in MW-motives (resp. Chow-Witt rings), which says that $\widetilde{CH}^*(\mathbb{P}(E))$ is determined by $\widetilde{CH}^*(X)$, $\widetilde{CH}^*(X,det(E)^{\vee})$, $CH^*(X)$ and $Sq^2$ for smooth quasi-projective schemes $X$ and vector bundles $E$ over $X$ with $e(E^{\vee})=0\in H^n(X,W(det(E)))$, provided that $_2CH^*(X)=0$. As an application, we compute the MW-motives of blow-ups with smooth centers. Moreover, we discuss the invariance of Chow-Witt cycles of projective bundles under automorphisms of vector bundles.
We describe the Voevodsky's category $DM^{eff}_{gm}$ of motives in terms of Suslin complexes of smooth projective varieties. This shows that Voeovodsky's $DM_{gm}$ is anti-equivalent to Hanamura's one. We give a description of any triangulated subcategory of $DM^{eff}_{gm}$ (including the category of effective mixed Tate motives). We descibe 'truncation' functors $t_N$ for $N>0$. $t=t_0$ generalizes the weight complex of Soule and Gillet; its target is $K^b(Chow_{eff})$; it calculates $K_0(DM^{eff}_{gm})$, and checks whether a motive is a mixed Tate one. $t_N$ give a weight filtration and a 'm…
The category of framed correspondences $Fr_*(k)$ and framed sheaves were invented by Voevodsky in his unpublished notes [V2]. Based on the theory, framed motives are introduced and studied in [GP1]. These are Nisnivich sheaves of $S^1$-spectra and the major computational tool of [GP1]. The aim of this paper is to show the following result which is essential in proving the main theorem of [GP1]: given an infinite perfect base field $k$, any $k$-smooth scheme $X$ and any $n\geq 1$, the map of simplicial pointed Nisnevich sheaves $(-,\mathbb{A}^1//\mathbb G_m)^{\wedge n}_+\to T^n$ induces a Nisne…
We show that the category of motivic spaces with transfers along finite flat morphisms, over a perfect field, satisfies all the properties we have come to expect of good categories of motives. In particular we establish the analog of Voevodsky's cancellation theorem.
In this paper, we construct four different theories of integration, two that are for Voevodsky motives, one for mixed $\ell$-adic sheaves, and a fourth theory of integration for rational mixed Hodge structures. We then show that they circumvent some of the complications of classical motivic integration, leading to new arithmetic and geometric results concerning K-equivalent $k$-varieties. For example, in addition to recovering known results regarding K-equivalent smooth projective complex varieties, we show that K-equivalent smooth projective $\mathbb{F}_q$-varieties have isomorphic rational $…
In this article we continue the development of a theory of noncommutative motives. We construct categories of A1-homotopy noncommutative motives, described their universal properties, and compute their spectra of morphisms in terms of Karoubi-Villamayor's K-theory (KV) and Weibel's homotopy K-theory (KH). As an application, we obtain a complete classification of all the natural transformations defined on KV, KH. This leads to a streamlined construction of Weibel's homotopy Chern character from KV to periodic cyclic homology. Along the way we extend Dwyer-Friedlander's etale K-theory to the non…
V. Lunts has recently established Lefschetz fixed point theorems for Fourier-Mukai functors and dg algebras. In the same vein, D. Shklyarov introduced the noncommutative analogue of the Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch theorem. In this short article, we see how these constructions and computations formally stem from their motivic counterparts.
Following an insight of Kontsevich, we prove that the quotient of Voevodsky's category of geometric mixed motives DM by the endofunctor -Q(1)[2] embeds fully-faithfully into Kontsevich's category of noncommutative mixed motives KMM. We show also that this embedding is compatible with the one between pure motives. As an application, we obtain a precise relation between the Picard groups Pic(-), the Grothendieck groups, the Schur-finitenss, and the Kimura-finitenss of the categories DM and KMM. In particular, the quotient of Pic(DM) by the subgroup of Tate twists Q(i)[2i] injects into Pic(KMM). …
We develop a general theory which enables the computation of the Picard group of a symmetric monoidal triangulated category, equipped with a weight structure, in terms of the Picard group of the associated heart. As an application, we compute the Picard group of several categories of motivic nature - mixed Artin motives, mixed Artin-Tate motives, motivic spectra, noncommutative mixed Artin motives, noncommutative mixed motives of central simple algebras, noncommutative mixed motives of separable algebras - as well as the Picard group of the derived categories of symmetric ring spectra.
In this article we introduce the categories of noncommutative (mixed) Artin motives. In the pure world, we start by proving that the classical category AM(k) of Artin motives (over a base field k) can be characterized as the largest category inside Chow motives which fully-embeds into noncommutative Chow motives. Making use of a refined bridge between pure motives and noncommutative pure motives we then show that the image of this full embedding, which we call the category NAM(k) of noncommutative Artin motives, is invariant under the different equivalence relations and modification of the sym…
In this article one extends the classical theory of (intermediate) Jacobians to the "noncommutative world". Concretely, one constructs a Q-linear additive Jacobian functor J(-) from the category of noncommutative Chow motives to the category of abelian varieties up to isogeny, with the following properties: (i) the first de Rham cohomology group of J(N) agrees with the subspace of the odd periodic cyclic homology of N which is generated by algebraic curves; (ii) the abelian variety J(perf(X)) (associated to the derived dg category perf(X) of a smooth projective scheme X) identifies with the un…
This survey covers some of the recent developments on noncommutative motives and their applications. Among other topics, we compute the additive invariants of relative cellular spaces and orbifolds; prove Kontsevich's semi-simplicity conjecture; prove a far-reaching noncommutative generalization of the Weil conjectures; prove Grothendieck's standard conjectures of type C+ and D, Voevodsky's nilpotence conjecture, and Tate's conjecture, in several new cases; embed the (cohomological) Brauer group into secondary K-theory; construct a noncommutative motivic Gysin triangle; compute the localizing …
An alternative approach to the classical Morel-Voevodsky stable motivic homotopy theory $SH(k)$ is suggested. The triangulated category of framed bispectra $SH_{nis}^{fr}(k)$ and effective framed bispectra $SH_{nis}^{fr,eff}(k)$ are introduced in the paper. Both triangulated categories only use Nisnevich local equivalences and have nothing to do with any kind of motivic equivalences. It is shown that $SH_{nis}^{fr}(k)$ and $SH_{nis}^{fr,eff}(k)$ recover the classical Morel-Voevodsky triangulated categories of bispectra $SH(k)$ and effective bispectra $SH^{eff}(k)$ respectively. We also recover…
This survey is based on lectures given by the authors during the program "Noncommutative algebraic geometry and representation theory" at the MSRI, Berkeley, in the spring of 2013. It covers the recent work of the authors on noncommutative motives and their applications, and is intended for a broad mathematical audience.
The Weil restriction functor, introduced in the late fifties, was recently extended by Karpenko to the category of Chow motives with integral coefficients. In this article we introduce the noncommutative (=NC) analogue of the Weil restriction functor, where schemes are replaced by dg algebras, and extend it to Kontsevich's categories of NC Chow motives and NC numerical motives. Instead of integer coefficients, we work more generally with coefficients in a binomial ring. Along the way, we extend Karpenko's functor to the classical category of numerical motives, and compare this extension with i…
In this paper we construct extensions of the Mixed Hodge structure on the fundamental group of a pointed algebraic curve. These extensions correspond to the regulator of certain explicit motivic cohomology cycles in the self product of the curve which were first constructed by Bloch and Beilinson. This leads to a new iterated integral expression for the regulator. Our result is a generalization of a result of Colombo's where she constructs the extension corresponding to a motivic cycle class in the Jacobian of a hyperelliptic curve constructed by Collino. This is to appear in the Mathematical …
Let k be a base field of positive characteristic. Making use of topological periodic cyclic homology, we start by proving that the category of noncommutative numerical motives over k is abelian semi-simple, as conjectured by Kontsevich. Then, we establish a far-reaching noncommutative generalization of the Weil conjectures, originally proved by Dwork and Grothendieck. In the same vein, we establish a far-reaching noncommutative generalization of the cohomological interpretations of the Hasse-Weil zeta function, originally proven by Hesselholt. As a third main result, we prove that the numerica…
We construct an ungraded version of Beilinson-Ginzburg-Soergel's Koszul duality for Langlands dual flag varieties, inspired by Beilinson's construction of rational motivic cohomology in terms of $K$-theory. For this, we introduce and study categories $\operatorname{DK}_{\mathcal{S}}(X)$ of $\mathcal{S}$-constructible $K$-motivic sheaves on varieties $X$ with an affine stratification $\mathcal{S}$. We show that there is a natural and geometric functor, called Beilinson realisation, from $\mathcal{S}$-constructible mixed sheaves $\operatorname{D}^{mix}_{\mathcal{S}}(X)$ to $\operatorname{DK}_{\m…
Given a finite group G, we develop a theory of G-equivariant noncommutative motives. This theory provides a well-adapted framework for the study of G-schemes, Picard groups of schemes, G-algebras, 2-cocycles, equivariant algebraic K-theory, orbifold cohomology theory, etc. Among other results, we relate our theory with its commutative counterpart as well as with Panin's motivic theory. As a first application, we extend Panin's computations, concerning twisted projective homogeneous varieties, to a large class of invariants. As a second application, we prove that whenever the category of perfec…
In this article we study the K-theory of endomorphisms using noncommutative motives. We start by extending the K-theory of endomorphisms functor from ordinary rings to (stable) infinity categories. We then prove that this extended functor KEnd(-) not only descends to the category of noncommutative motives but moreover becomes co-represented by the noncommutative motive associated to the tensor algebra S[t] of the sphere spectrum S. Using this co-representability result, we then classify all the natural transformations of KEnd(-) in terms of an integer plus a fraction between polynomials with c…
I. Panin proved in the nineties that the algebraic K-theory of twisted projective homogeneous varieties can be expressed in terms of central simple algebras. Later, Merkurjev and Panin described the algebraic K-theory of toric varieties as a direct summand of the algebraic K-theory of separable algebras. In this article, making use of the recent theory of noncommutative motives, we extend Panin and Merkurjev-Panin computations from algebraic K-theory to every additive invariant. As a first application, we fully compute the cyclic homology (and all its variants) of twisted projective homogeneou…
We propose a categorification of the Chern character that refines earlier work of Toën and Vezzosi and of Ganter and Kapranov. If X is an algebraic stack, our categorified Chern character is a symmetric monoidal functor from a category of mixed noncommutative motives over X, which we introduce, to S1-equivariant perfect complexes on the derived free loop stack LX. As an application of the theory, we show that Toën and Vezzosi's secondary Chern character factors through secondary K-theory. Our techniques depend on a careful investigation of the functoriality of traces in symmetric monoidal (inf…
In this article we study in detail the category of noncommutative motives of separable algebras Sep(k) over a base field k. We start by constructing four different models of the full subcategory of commutative separable algebras CSep(k). Making use of these models, we then explain how the category Sep(k) can be described as a "fibered Z-order" over CSep(k). This viewpoint leads to several computations and structural properties of the category Sep(k). For example, we obtain a complete dictionary between directs sums of noncommutative motives of central simple algebras (=CSA) and sequences of el…
