We give a complete classification of the infinite dimensional tilting modules over a tame hereditary algebra R. We start our investigations by considering tilting modules of the form T=R_U\oplus R_U /R where U is a union of tubes, and R_U denotes the universal localization of R at U in the sense of Schofield and Crawley-Boevey. Here R_U/R is a direct sum of the Prüfer modules corresponding to the tubes in U. Over the Kronecker algebra, large tilting modules are of this form in all but one case, the exception being the Lukas tilting module L whose tilting class Gen L consists of all modules without indecomposable preprojective summands. Over an arbitrary tame hereditary algebra, T can have finite dimensional summands, but the infinite dimensional part of T is still built up from universal localizations, Prüfer modules and (localizations of) the Lukas tilting module. We also recover the classification of the infinite dimensional cotilting R-modules due to Buan and Krause.
We show that all finite dimensional, tame hereditary $k$-algebras are of amenable representation type (in the sense of G. Elek) for all fields $k$. The proof is adapted from our previous result for tame path algebras. Further, it is proven that this results extends to some tilted algebras, in particular tame concealed algebras are amenable.
The "No Gap Conjecture" of Brüstle-Dupont-Pérotin states that the set of lengths of maximal green sequences for hereditary algebras over an algebraically closed field has no gaps. This follows from a stronger conjecture that any two maximal green sequences can be "polygonally deformed" into each other. We prove this stronger conjecture for all tame hereditary algebras over any field.
In this paper we state and prove the statement that tame hereditary algebras have finitely many m-maximal green sequences using a generalized version of Brüstle-Dupont-Pérotin's argument that tame quivers have finitely many maximal green sequences. Then we extend this theorem to mutation sequences which are partially red.
We present a graded mutation rule for quivers of cluster-tilted algebras. Furthermore, we give a technique to recover a cluster-tilting object from its graded quiver in the cluster category of coh $\mathbb{X}$.
Let $A$ be a quasi-hereditary algebra. We prove that in many cases, a tilting module is rigid (i.e. has identical radical and socle series) if it does not have certain subquotients whose composition factors extend more than one layer in the radical series or the socle series. We apply this theorem to give new results about the radical series of some tilting modules for $SL_4(K)$, where $K$ is a field of positive characteristic.
Let $A$ be a tame hereditary algebra over a finite field $k$ with $q$ elements, and ${\bar{A}}$ be the duplicated algebra of $A$. In this paper, we investigate the structure of Ringel-Hall algebra $\mathscr{H} (\bar{A})$ and of the corresponding composition algebra $\mathscr{C} (\bar{A})$. As an application, we prove the existence of Hall polynomials $g_{XY}^M$ for any $\bar{A}$-modules $M, X$ and $Y$ with $X$ and $Y$ indecomposable if $A$ is a tame quiver $k$-algebra, then we also obtain some Lie subalgebras induced by $\bar{A}$.
In this short paper we prove that a finite dimensional algebra is hereditary if and only if there is no loop in its ordinary quiver and every $τ$-tilting module is tilting.
We develop a structure theory for two classes of infinite dimensional modules over tame hereditary algebras: the Baer modules, and the Mittag-Leffler ones.
We show that there exists a natural non-degenerate pairing of the homomorphism space between two neighbor standard modules over a quasi-hereditary algebra with the first extension space between the corresponding costandard modules and vise versa. Investigation of this phenomenon leads to a family of pairings involving standard, costandard and tilting modules. In the graded case, under some "Koszul-like" assumptions (which we prove are satisfied for example for the blocks of the category $\mathcal{O}$), we obtain a non-degenerate pairing between certain graded homomorphism and graded extension …
In this note we are concerned with the notion of amenable representation type as defined in a recent paper by Gábor Elek. Roughly speaking, an algebra is of amenable type if for all $\varepsilon > 0$, every finite-dimensional module has a submodule which is a direct sum of modules which are small with respect to $\varepsilon$ such that the quotient is also small in that respect. We will show that the tame hereditary path algebras of quivers of extended Dynkin type over any field $k$ are of amenable type, thus extending a conjecture in the aforementioned paper to another class of tame algebras.…
We classify generalized tilting modules and full exceptional sequences for the family of quasi-hereditary quotients of type A zig-zag algebras and for a related family of algebras. We also give a characterization of these quotients as quasi-hereditary algebras with simple preserving duality that are 'close' to self-injective algebras.
We generalize the tilting process by Happel, Reiten and Smalø to the setting of finitely presented modules over right coherent rings. Moreover, we extend the characterization of quasi-tilted artin algebras as the almost hereditary ones to all right noetherian rings.
Let $X$ be any rational surface. We construct a tilting bundle $T$ on $X$. Moreover, we can choose $T$ in such way that its endomorphism algebra is quasi-hereditary. In particular, the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on $X$ is equivalent to the bounded derived category of finitely generated modules over a finite dimensional quasi-hereditary algebra $A$. The construction starts with a full exceptional sequence of line bundles on $X$ and uses universal extensions. If $X$ is any smooth projective variety with a full exceptional sequence of coherent sheaves (or vector bundles, or even…
Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a connected hereditary abelian category with tilting objects. It is proved that the cluster-tilting graph associated with $\mathcal{H}$ is always connected. As a consequence, we establish the connectedness of the tilting graph for the category $\operatorname{coh}\mathbb{X}$ of coherent sheaves over a weighted projective line $\mathbb{X}$ of wild type. The connectedness of tilting graphs for such categories was conjectured by Happel-Unger, which has immediately applications in cluster algebras. For instance, we deduce that there is a bijection between the set of indecomposa…
We show that the cluster complex of an arbitrary hereditary artin algebra has the structure of an abstract simplicial polytope. In particular, the cluster-tilting objects form one equivalence class under mutation.
Let T be a tilting object in a triangulated category equivalent to the bounded derived category of a hereditary abelian category with finite dimensional homomorphism spaces and split idempotents. This text investigates the strong global dimension, in the sense of Ringel, of the endomorphism algebra of T. This invariant is expressed using the infimum of the lengths of the sequences of tilting objects successively related by tilting mutations and where the last term is T and the endomorphism algebra of the first term is quasi-tilted. It is also expressed in terms of the hereditary abelian genera…
We discuss tilting modules of affine quasi-hereditary algebras. We present an existence theorem of indecomposable tilting modules when the algebra has a large center and use it to deduce a criterion for an exact functor between two affine highest weight categories to give an equivalence. As an application, we prove that the Arakawa-Suzuki functor [Arakawa-Suzuki, J. of Alg. 209 (1998)] gives a fully faithful embedding of a block of the deformed BGG category of $\mathfrak{gl}_{m}$ into the module category of a suitable completion of degenerate affine Hecke algebra of $GL_{n}$.
Let $Λ$ be a hereditary algebra, $B_0=End_Λ(T_0)$ be a tilted algebra. We will construct tilting $B_0$-modules from tilting $Λ$-modules and use this result to show how tilting quivers of BB-tilted algebras can be obtained from those of $Λ$
Motivated by the study of (m,n)-quasitilted algebras, which are the piecewise hereditary algebras obtained from quasitilted algebras of global dimension two by a sequence of (co)tiltings involving n-1 tilting modules and m-1 cotilting modules, we introduce (m,n)-almost hereditary algebras. These are the algebras with global dimension m+n and such that any indecomposable module has projective dimension at most m, or else injective dimension at most n. We relate these two classes of algebras, among which (m,1)-almost hereditary ones play a special role. For these, we prove that any indecomposabl…
In an ongoing project to classify all hereditary abelian categories, we provide a classification of Ext-finite directed hereditary abelian categories satisfying Serre duality up to derived equivalence. In order to prove the classification, we will study the shapes of the Auslander-Reiten components extensively and use appropriate generalisations of tilting objects and coordinates, namely partial tilting sets and probing of objects by quasi-simples.
As the first attempt to classify $τ$-tilting finite two-point algebras, we have determined the $τ$-tilting finiteness for minimal wild two-point algebras and some tame two-point algebras.
We study universal localisations, in the sense of Cohn and Schofield, for finite dimensional algebras and classify them by certain subcategories of our initial module category. A complete classification is presented in the hereditary case as well as for Nakayama algebras and local algebras. Furthermore, for hereditary algebras, we establish a correspondence between finite dimensional universal localisations and finitely generated support tilting modules. In the Nakayama case, we get a similar result using $τ$-tilting modules, which were recently introduced by Adachi, Iyama and Reiten.
Motivated by the structure of the algebras associated to the blocks of the BGG-category O we define a subclass of quasi-hereditary algebras called 1-quasi-hereditary. Many properties of these algebras only depend on the defining partial order. In particular, we can determine the quiver and the form of the relations. Moreover, if the Ringel dual of a 1-quasi-hereditary algebra is also 1-quasi-hereditary, then the structure of the characteristic tilting module can be computed.
In this paper, we consider the endomorphism algebras of infinitely generated tilting modules of the form $R_{\mathcal U}\oplus R_{\mathcal U}/R$ over tame hereditary $k$-algebras $R$ with $k$ an arbitrary field, where $R_{\mathcal{U}}$ is the universal localization of $R$ at an arbitrary set $\mathcal{U}$ of simple regular $R$-modules, and show that the derived module category of $\End_R(R_{\mathcal U}\oplus R_{\mathcal U}/R)$ is a recollement of the derived module category $\D{R}$ of $R$ and the derived module category $\D{{\mathbb A}_{\mathcal{U}}}$ of the adèle ring ${\mathbb A}_{\mathcal{U…
We show that a finite connected quiver Q with no oriented cycles is tame if and only if for each dimension vector $\mathbf{d}$ and each integral weight $θ$ of Q, the moduli space $\mathcal{M}(Q,\mathbf{d})^{ss}_θ$ of $θ$-semi-stable $\mathbf{d}$-dimensional representations of Q is just a projective space. In order to prove this, we show that the tame quivers are precisely those whose weight spaces of semi-invariants satisfy a certain log-concavity property. Furthermore, we characterize the tame quivers as being those quivers Q with the property that for each Schur root $\mathbf{d}$ of Q, the f…
Let C be a connected noetherian hereditary abelian Ext-finite category with Serre functor over an algebraically closed field k, with finite dimensional homomorphism and extension spaces. Using the classification of such categories from math.RT/9911242, we prove that if C has some object of infinite length, then the Grothendieck group of C is finitely generated if and only if C has a tilting object.
Tilting theory in cluster categories of hereditary algebras has been developed in [BMRRT] and [BMR]. These results are generalized to cluster categories of hereditary abelian categories. Furthermore, for any tilting object $T$ in a hereditary abelian category $\mathcal{H}$, we verify that the tilting functor Hom$_\mathcal{H}(T,-)$ induces a triangle equivalence from the cluster category $\mathcal{C(H)}$ to the cluster category $\mathcal{C}(A)$, where $A$ is the quasi-tilted algebra End$_{\mathcal{H}}T.$ Under the condition that one of derived categories of hereditary abelian categories $\mathc…
Tilting bundles $\mathcal{T}$ on a weighted projective line $\mathbb{X}$ have been intensively studied by representation theorists since they give rise to a derived equivalence between $\mathbb{X}$ and the finite dimensional algebra End $\mathcal{T}$. A classical result states that if End $\mathcal{T}$ is hereditary, then $\mathbb{X}$ is Fano and conversely, for every Fano weighted projective line, there exists a tilting bundle $\mathcal{T}$ with End $\mathcal{T}$ hereditary. In this paper, we examine the question of when a weighted projective surface has a tilting bundle whose endomorphism ri…
We give a complete picture of the interaction between Koszul and Ringel dualities for quasi-hereditary algebras admitting linear tilting (co)resolutions of standard and costandard modules. We show that such algebras are Koszul, that the class of these algebras is closed with respect to both dualities and that on this class these two dualities commute. All arguments reduce to short computations in the bounded derived category of graded modules.
We study finiteness conditions on large tilting modules over arbitrary rings. We then turn to a hereditary artin algebra R and apply our results to the (infinite dimensional) tilting module L that generates all modules without preprojective direct summands. We show that the behaviour of L over its endomorphism ring determines the representation type of R. A similar result holds true for the (infinite dimensional) tilting module W that generates the divisible modules. Finally, we extend to the wild case some results on Baer modules and torsion-free modules proven in [AHT] for tame hereditary al…
In this paper, we study a relationship between tilting modules with finite projective dimension and dominant dimension with respect to injective modules as a generalization of results of Crawley-Boevey-Sauter, Nguyen-Reiten-Todorov-Zhu and Pressland-Sauter. Moreover, we give characterizations of almost $n$-Auslander-Gorenstein algebras and almost $n$-Auslander algebras by the existence of tilting modules. As an application, we describe a sufficient condition for almost $1$-Auslander algebras to be strongly quasi-hereditary by comparing such tilting modules and characteristic tilting modules.
This paper deals with stratifying systems over hereditary algebras. In the case of tame hereditary algebras we obtain a bound for the size of the stratifying systems composed only by regular modules and we conclude that stratifying systems can not be complete. For wild hereditary algebras with more than 2 vertices we show that there exists a complete stratifying system whose elements are regular modules. In the other case, we conclude that there are no stratifing system over them with regular modules. In one example we built all the stratifying systems, with a specific form, having maximal num…
We introduce the notion of n-representation-finiteness, generalizing representation-finite hereditary algebras. We establish the procedure of n-APR tilting, and show that it preserves n-representation-finiteness. We give some combinatorial description of this procedure, and use this to completely describe a class of n-representation-finite algebras called "type A".
Happel and Unger reconstructed hereditary algebras from their posets of tilting modules. Inspired by this result, we try removing the assumption to be hereditary. However, it would be unfortunately fail in general: e.g. every selfinjective algebra has the poset consisting of only one point. Therefore, we should consider a generalization of the Happel-Unger's result for posets of support $τ$-tilting modules, which contains those of tilting modules. In this paper, we spotlight finite dimensional algebras whose support $τ$-tilting posets coincide with those of tree quiver algebras and give a full…
The blob algebra is a finite-dimensional quotient of the Hecke algebra of type $B$ which is almost always quasi-hereditary. We construct the indecomposable tilting modules for the blob algebra over a field of characteristic $0$ in the doubly critical case. Every indecomposable tilting module of maximal highest weight is either a projective module or an extension of a simple module by a projective module. Moreover, every indecomposable tilting module is a submodule of an indecomposable tilting module of maximal highest weight. We conclude that the graded Weyl multiplicities of the indecomposabl…
We study IE-closed subcategories of a module category, subcategories which are closed under taking Images and Extensions. We investigate the relation between IE-closed subcategories and torsion pairs, and characterize $τ$-tilting finite algebras using IE-closed subcategories. For the hereditary case, we show that IE-closed subcategories can be classified by twin rigid modules, pairs of rigid modules satisfying some homological conditions. Moreover, we introduce mutation of twin rigid modules analogously to tilting modules, which gives a way to calculate all twin rigid modules for the represent…
This paper surveys bocses, quasi-hereditary algebras and their relationship which was established in a recent result by Koenig, Ovsienko, and the author. Particular emphasis is placed on applications of this result to the representation type of the category filtered by standard modules for a quasi-hereditary algebra. In this direction, joint work with Thiel is presented showing that the subcategory of modules filtered by Weyl modules for tame Schur algebras is of finite representation type. The paper also includes a new proof for the classification of quasi-hereditary algebras with two simple …
Let k be an algebraically closed field. Given an extension A : B of finite-dimensional k- algebras, we establish criteria ensuring that the representation-theoretic notion of polynomial growth is preserved under ascent and descent. These results are then used to show that principal blocks of finite group schemes of odd characteristic are of polynomial growth if and only if they are Morita equivalent to trivial extensions of radical square zero tame hereditary algebras. In that case, the blocks are of domestic representation type and the underlying group schemes are closely related to binary po…
In this article, we initiate the study of hereditary extriangulated categories. Many important categories arising in representation theory in connection with various theories of mutation are hereditary extriangulated. Special cases include homotopy categories of 2-term complexes with projective components, which are related to silting mutation, and cluster categories (with relevant relative extriangulated structures) where cluster tilting mutation take place. We prove that there is a theory of irreducible mutation for maximal rigid objects and subcategories in hereditary extriangulated categor…
Let $A$ be a finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field $k$. Let $T$ be a tilting $A$-module and $B={\rm End}_A\ T$ be the endomorphism algebra of $T$. In this paper, we consider the correspondence between the tilting $A$-modules and the tilting $B$-modules, and we prove that there is a one-one correspondence between the basic $T$-tilting $A$-modules in $T^{\perp}$ and the basic tilting $B$-modules in $^{\perp}(D_BT)$. Moreover, we show that there is a one-one correspondence between the $T$-contravariantly finite $T$-resolving subcategories of $T^{\perp}$ and the basic $T$-t…
Let $A$ be a finite dimensional hereditary algebra over a field $k$ and $A^{(1)}$ the duplicated algebra of $A$. We first show that the global dimension of endomorphism ring of tilting modules of $A^{(1)}$ is at most 3. Then we investigate embedding tilting quiver $\mathscr{K}(A)$ of $A$ into tilting quiver $\mathscr{K}(A^{(1)})$ of $A^{(1)}$. As applications, we give new proofs for some results of D.Happel and L.Unger, and prove that every connected component in $\mathscr{K}({A})$ has finite non-saturated points if $A$ is tame type, which gives a partially positive answer to the conjecture of…
Let k be a field, let A a finite-dimensional hereditary k-algebra. We consider the category of all finite-dimensional A-modules. We are going to characterize the representation type of A (tame or wild) in terms of the possible subcategories of all M-static modules, where M is an indecomposable A-module.
Our first result provides a new characterization of Auslander algebras using a property of hereditary torsion pairs. The second result shows an Auslander algebra $Λ$ is left or right glued if and only if $Λ$ is representation-finite. Finally, our third result shows the module category of any Auslander algebra contains a tilting module with a particular property, which we call the hereditary property. Applications of this property are investigated.
We give a structure theorem for Calabi-Yau triangulated category with a hereditary cluster tilting object. We prove that an algebraic $d$-Calabi-Yau triangulated category with a $d$-cluster tilting object $T$ such that its shifted sum $T\oplus\cdots\oplus T[-(d-2)]$ has hereditary endomorphism algebra $H$ is triangle equivalent to the orbit category $\mathscr{D}^b(\mathrm{\mathop{mod}}\, H)/τ^{-1/(d-1)}[1]$ of the derived category of $H$ for a naturally defined $(d-1)$-st root $τ^{1/(d-1)}$ of the AR translation, provided $H$ is of non-Dynkin type. We also show that hereditaryness of $H$ follo…
We show that if H is a hereditary finite dimensional algebra, M is a finitely generated H-module and B is a semisimple subalgebra of the endomorphism algebra of M, then the representation dimension of the corresponding triangular matrix algebra is less or equal to 3 whenever one of the following conditions hold: i) H is of finite representation type; ii) H is tame and M is a direct sum of regular and preprojective modules; iii) M has no self-extensions
The concept of cluster tilting gives a higher analogue of classical Auslander correspondence between representation-finite algebras and Auslander algebras. The $n$-Auslander-Reiten translation functor $τ_n$ plays an important role in the study of $n$-cluster tilting subcategories. We study the category $\MM_n$ of preinjective-like modules obtained by applying $τ_n$ to injective modules repeatedly. We call a finite dimensional algebra $Λ$ \emph{$n$-complete} if $\MM_n=\add M$ for an $n$-cluster tilting object $M$. Our main result asserts that the endomorphism algebra $\End_Λ(M)$ is $(n+1)$-comp…
A finite directed category is a $k$-linear category with finitely many objects and an underlying poset structure, where $k$ is an algebraically closed field. This concept unifies structures such as $k$-linerizations of posets and finite EI categories, quotient algebras of finite-dimensional hereditary algebras, triangular matrix algebras, etc. In this paper we study representations of finite directed categories, discuss their stratification properties, and show the existence of generalized APR tilting modules for triangular matrix algebras under some assumptions.
