We show that there exists a natural non-degenerate pairing of the homomorphism space between two neighbor standard modules over a quasi-hereditary algebra with the first extension space between the corresponding costandard modules and vise versa. Investigation of this phenomenon leads to a family of pairings involving standard, costandard and tilting modules. In the graded case, under some "Koszul-like" assumptions (which we prove are satisfied for example for the blocks of the category $\mathcal{O}$), we obtain a non-degenerate pairing between certain graded homomorphism and graded extension spaces. This motivates the study of the category of linear tilting complexes for graded quasi-hereditary algebras. We show that, under assumptions, similar to those mentioned above, this category realizes the module category for the Koszul dual of the Ringel dual of the original algebra. As a corollary we obtain that under these assumptions the Ringel and Koszul dualities commute.
We present a graded mutation rule for quivers of cluster-tilted algebras. Furthermore, we give a technique to recover a cluster-tilting object from its graded quiver in the cluster category of coh $\mathbb{X}$.
Let $A$ be a quasi-hereditary algebra. We prove that in many cases, a tilting module is rigid (i.e. has identical radical and socle series) if it does not have certain subquotients whose composition factors extend more than one layer in the radical series or the socle series. We apply this theorem to give new results about the radical series of some tilting modules for $SL_4(K)$, where $K$ is a field of positive characteristic.
We give a complete classification of the infinite dimensional tilting modules over a tame hereditary algebra R. We start our investigations by considering tilting modules of the form T=R_U\oplus R_U /R where U is a union of tubes, and R_U denotes the universal localization of R at U in the sense of Schofield and Crawley-Boevey. Here R_U/R is a direct sum of the Prüfer modules corresponding to the tubes in U. Over the Kronecker algebra, large tilting modules are of this form in all but one case, the exception being the Lukas tilting module L whose tilting class Gen L consists of all modules wit…
In this short paper we prove that a finite dimensional algebra is hereditary if and only if there is no loop in its ordinary quiver and every $τ$-tilting module is tilting.
We classify generalized tilting modules and full exceptional sequences for the family of quasi-hereditary quotients of type A zig-zag algebras and for a related family of algebras. We also give a characterization of these quotients as quasi-hereditary algebras with simple preserving duality that are 'close' to self-injective algebras.
We generalize the tilting process by Happel, Reiten and Smalø to the setting of finitely presented modules over right coherent rings. Moreover, we extend the characterization of quasi-tilted artin algebras as the almost hereditary ones to all right noetherian rings.
Let $X$ be any rational surface. We construct a tilting bundle $T$ on $X$. Moreover, we can choose $T$ in such way that its endomorphism algebra is quasi-hereditary. In particular, the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on $X$ is equivalent to the bounded derived category of finitely generated modules over a finite dimensional quasi-hereditary algebra $A$. The construction starts with a full exceptional sequence of line bundles on $X$ and uses universal extensions. If $X$ is any smooth projective variety with a full exceptional sequence of coherent sheaves (or vector bundles, or even…
Let $\mathcal{H}$ be a connected hereditary abelian category with tilting objects. It is proved that the cluster-tilting graph associated with $\mathcal{H}$ is always connected. As a consequence, we establish the connectedness of the tilting graph for the category $\operatorname{coh}\mathbb{X}$ of coherent sheaves over a weighted projective line $\mathbb{X}$ of wild type. The connectedness of tilting graphs for such categories was conjectured by Happel-Unger, which has immediately applications in cluster algebras. For instance, we deduce that there is a bijection between the set of indecomposa…
In this paper all two-term tilting complexes over a Brauer tree algebra with multiplicity one are described using a classification of indecomposable two-term partial tilting complexes obtained earlier in a joint paper with M. Antipov. The endomorphism rings of such complexes are computed.
In this paper we describe all indecomposable two-term partial tilting complexes over a Brauer tree algebra with multiplicity 1 using a criterion for a minimal projective presentation of a module to be a partial tilting complex. As an application we describe all two-term tilting complexes over Brauer star algebra and compute their endomorphism rings.
We show that the cluster complex of an arbitrary hereditary artin algebra has the structure of an abstract simplicial polytope. In particular, the cluster-tilting objects form one equivalence class under mutation.
We give a proof, based on the rigidity of tilting complexes, that the class of self-injective finite-dimensional algebras over an algebraically closed field is closed under derived equivalence.
In this paper, we compute the number of two-term tilting complexes for an arbitrary symmetric algebra with radical cube zero over an algebraically closed field. Firstly, we give a complete list of symmetric algebras with radical cube zero having only finitely many isomorphism classes of two-term tilting complexes in terms of their associated graphs. Secondly, we enumerate the number of two-term tilting complexes for each case in the list.
Using only the combinatorics of its defining ribbon graph, we classify the two-term tilting complexes, as well as their indecomposable summands, of a Brauer graph algebra. As an application, we determine precisely the class of Brauer graph algebras which are tilting-discrete.
Let T be a tilting object in a triangulated category equivalent to the bounded derived category of a hereditary abelian category with finite dimensional homomorphism spaces and split idempotents. This text investigates the strong global dimension, in the sense of Ringel, of the endomorphism algebra of T. This invariant is expressed using the infimum of the lengths of the sequences of tilting objects successively related by tilting mutations and where the last term is T and the endomorphism algebra of the first term is quasi-tilted. It is also expressed in terms of the hereditary abelian genera…
We show that every two-term tilting complex over an Artin algebra has a tilting module over a certain factor algebra as a homology group. Also, we determine the endomorphism algebra of such a homology group, which is given as a certain factor algebra of the endomorphism algebra of the two-term tilting complex. Thus, every derived equivalence between Artin algebras given by a two-term tilting complex induces a derived equivalence between the corresponding factor algebras.
We discuss tilting modules of affine quasi-hereditary algebras. We present an existence theorem of indecomposable tilting modules when the algebra has a large center and use it to deduce a criterion for an exact functor between two affine highest weight categories to give an equivalence. As an application, we prove that the Arakawa-Suzuki functor [Arakawa-Suzuki, J. of Alg. 209 (1998)] gives a fully faithful embedding of a block of the deformed BGG category of $\mathfrak{gl}_{m}$ into the module category of a suitable completion of degenerate affine Hecke algebra of $GL_{n}$.
We show that any Brauer tree algebra has precisely $\binom{2n}{n}$ $2$-tilting complexes, where $n$ is the number of edges of the associated Brauer tree. More explicitly, for an external edge $e$ and an integer $j\neq0$, we show that the number of $2$-tilting complexes $T$ with $g_e(T)=j$ is $\binom{2n-|j|-1}{n-1}$, where $g_e(T)$ denotes the $e$-th of the $g$-vector of $T$. To prove this, we use a geometric model of Brauer graph algebras on the closed oriented marked surfaces and a classification of $2$-tilting complexes due to Adachi-Aihara-Chan.
We explain the construction of minimal tilting complexes for objects of highest weight categories and we study in detail the minimal tilting complexes for standard objects and simple objects. For certain categories of representations of complex simple Lie algebras, affine Kac-Moody algebras and quantum groups at roots of unity, we relate the multiplicities of indecomposable tilting objects appearing in the terms of these complexes to the coefficients of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.
Let $Λ$ be a hereditary algebra, $B_0=End_Λ(T_0)$ be a tilted algebra. We will construct tilting $B_0$-modules from tilting $Λ$-modules and use this result to show how tilting quivers of BB-tilted algebras can be obtained from those of $Λ$
We use minimal tilting complexes to construct an explicit bijection between the set of thick tensor ideals with the two-out-of-three property in the category of finite-dimensional modules over a quantum group at a root of unity and the set of thick tensor ideals in the subcategory of tilting modules. We also explain why the analogous construction for rational representations of a reductive algebraic group over a field of positive characteristic does not give rise to a bijection.
We construct derived equivalences between group graded self-injective algebras, starting from equivalences between their 1-components, obtained via a construction of J. Rickard and S. Al-Nofayee.
In this paper, we study two-term tilting complexes for preprojective algebras of non-Dynkin type. We show that there exist two families of two-term tilting complexes, which are respectively parameterized by the elements of the corresponding Coxeter group. Moreover, we provide the complete classification in the case of affine type by showing that any two-term silting complex belongs one of them. For this purpose, we also discuss the Krull-Schmidt property for the homotopy category of finitely generated projective modules over a complete ring.
We use the category of linear complexes of tilting modules for the BGG category O, associated with a semi-simple complex finite-dimensional Lie algebra g, to reprove in purely algebraic way several known results about O obtained earlier by different authors using geometric methods. We also obtain several new results about the parabolic category O.
Let $Λ$ be an Artin algebra and $K^b(proj(Λ))$ be the triangulated category of bounded co-chain complexes in $proj(Λ).$ It is well known that two-terms silting complexes in $K^b(proj(Λ))$ are described by the $τ$-tilting theory. The aim of this paper is to give a characterization of certain $n$-term silting complexes in $K^b(proj(Λ))$ which are induced by $Λ$-modules. In order to do that, we introduce the notions of $τ_n$-rigid, $τ_n$-tilting and $τ_{n,m}$-tilting $Λ$-modules. The latter is both a generalization of $τ$-tilting and tilting in $mod(Λ).$ It is also stated and proved some variant,…
In an ongoing project to classify all hereditary abelian categories, we provide a classification of Ext-finite directed hereditary abelian categories satisfying Serre duality up to derived equivalence. In order to prove the classification, we will study the shapes of the Auslander-Reiten components extensively and use appropriate generalisations of tilting objects and coordinates, namely partial tilting sets and probing of objects by quasi-simples.
Motivated by the study of (m,n)-quasitilted algebras, which are the piecewise hereditary algebras obtained from quasitilted algebras of global dimension two by a sequence of (co)tiltings involving n-1 tilting modules and m-1 cotilting modules, we introduce (m,n)-almost hereditary algebras. These are the algebras with global dimension m+n and such that any indecomposable module has projective dimension at most m, or else injective dimension at most n. We relate these two classes of algebras, among which (m,1)-almost hereditary ones play a special role. For these, we prove that any indecomposabl…
We study the relation between simple-minded systems and two-term tilting complexes for self-injective Nakayama algebras. More precisely, we show that any simple-minded system of a self-injective Nakayama algebra is the image of the set of simple modules under a stable equivalence, which is given by the restriction of a standard derived equivalence induced by a two-term tilting complex. We achieve this by exploiting and connecting the mutation theories from the combinatorics of Brauer tree, configurations of stable translations quivers of type A, and triangulations of a punctured convex regular…
If A is a finite-dimensional symmetric algebra, then it is well-known that the only silting complexes in $\mathrm{K^b}(\mathrm{proj}A)$ are the tilting complexes. In this note we investigate to what extent the same can be said for weakly symmetric algebras. On one hand, we show that this holds for all tilting-discrete weakly symmetric algebras. In particular, a tilting-discrete weakly symmetric algebra is also silting-discrete. On the other hand, we also construct an example of a weakly symmetric algebra with silting complexes that are not tilting.
We study universal localisations, in the sense of Cohn and Schofield, for finite dimensional algebras and classify them by certain subcategories of our initial module category. A complete classification is presented in the hereditary case as well as for Nakayama algebras and local algebras. Furthermore, for hereditary algebras, we establish a correspondence between finite dimensional universal localisations and finitely generated support tilting modules. In the Nakayama case, we get a similar result using $τ$-tilting modules, which were recently introduced by Adachi, Iyama and Reiten.
Given a set of 'simple-minded' objects in a derived category, Rickard constructed a complex, which over a symmetric algebra provides a derived equivalence sending the 'simple-minded' objects to simple ones. We characterise in terms of t-structures, when this complex is a tilting complex, show that there is an associated natural $t$-structure and we provide an alternative construction of this complex in terms of A-infinity-structures. Our approach is similar to that of Keller--Nicolás.
In this paper, we consider the endomorphism algebras of infinitely generated tilting modules of the form $R_{\mathcal U}\oplus R_{\mathcal U}/R$ over tame hereditary $k$-algebras $R$ with $k$ an arbitrary field, where $R_{\mathcal{U}}$ is the universal localization of $R$ at an arbitrary set $\mathcal{U}$ of simple regular $R$-modules, and show that the derived module category of $\End_R(R_{\mathcal U}\oplus R_{\mathcal U}/R)$ is a recollement of the derived module category $\D{R}$ of $R$ and the derived module category $\D{{\mathbb A}_{\mathcal{U}}}$ of the adèle ring ${\mathbb A}_{\mathcal{U…
Motivated by the structure of the algebras associated to the blocks of the BGG-category O we define a subclass of quasi-hereditary algebras called 1-quasi-hereditary. Many properties of these algebras only depend on the defining partial order. In particular, we can determine the quiver and the form of the relations. Moreover, if the Ringel dual of a 1-quasi-hereditary algebra is also 1-quasi-hereditary, then the structure of the characteristic tilting module can be computed.
Tilting theory in cluster categories of hereditary algebras has been developed in [BMRRT] and [BMR]. These results are generalized to cluster categories of hereditary abelian categories. Furthermore, for any tilting object $T$ in a hereditary abelian category $\mathcal{H}$, we verify that the tilting functor Hom$_\mathcal{H}(T,-)$ induces a triangle equivalence from the cluster category $\mathcal{C(H)}$ to the cluster category $\mathcal{C}(A)$, where $A$ is the quasi-tilted algebra End$_{\mathcal{H}}T.$ Under the condition that one of derived categories of hereditary abelian categories $\mathc…
Let C be a connected noetherian hereditary abelian Ext-finite category with Serre functor over an algebraically closed field k, with finite dimensional homomorphism and extension spaces. Using the classification of such categories from math.RT/9911242, we prove that if C has some object of infinite length, then the Grothendieck group of C is finitely generated if and only if C has a tilting object.
Tilting bundles $\mathcal{T}$ on a weighted projective line $\mathbb{X}$ have been intensively studied by representation theorists since they give rise to a derived equivalence between $\mathbb{X}$ and the finite dimensional algebra End $\mathcal{T}$. A classical result states that if End $\mathcal{T}$ is hereditary, then $\mathbb{X}$ is Fano and conversely, for every Fano weighted projective line, there exists a tilting bundle $\mathcal{T}$ with End $\mathcal{T}$ hereditary. In this paper, we examine the question of when a weighted projective surface has a tilting bundle whose endomorphism ri…
In this paper, we study two-sided tilting complexes of preprojective algebras of Dynkin type. We construct the most fundamental class of two-sided tilting complexes, which has a group structure by derived tensor products and induces a group of auto-equivalences of the derived category. We show that the group structure of the two-sided tilting complexes is isomorphic to the braid group of the corresponding folded graph. Moreover we show that these two-sided tilting complexes induce tilting mutation and any tilting complex is given as the derived tensor products of them. Using these results, we …
We study finiteness conditions on large tilting modules over arbitrary rings. We then turn to a hereditary artin algebra R and apply our results to the (infinite dimensional) tilting module L that generates all modules without preprojective direct summands. We show that the behaviour of L over its endomorphism ring determines the representation type of R. A similar result holds true for the (infinite dimensional) tilting module W that generates the divisible modules. Finally, we extend to the wild case some results on Baer modules and torsion-free modules proven in [AHT] for tame hereditary al…
We give a complete picture of the interaction between Koszul and Ringel dualities for quasi-hereditary algebras admitting linear tilting (co)resolutions of standard and costandard modules. We show that such algebras are Koszul, that the class of these algebras is closed with respect to both dualities and that on this class these two dualities commute. All arguments reduce to short computations in the bounded derived category of graded modules.
Let $\mathbb{X}$ be a weighted projective line and $\operatorname{coh}\mathbb{X}$ the associated categoy of coherent sheaves. We classify the tilting complexes $T$ in $D^b(\operatorname{coh}\mathbb{X})$ such that $τ^2 T\cong T$, where $τ$ is the Auslander-Reiten translation in $D^b(\operatorname{coh}\mathbb{X})$. As an application of this result, we classify the 2-representation-finite algebras which are derived-equivalent to a canonical algebra. This complements Iyama-Oppermann's classification of the iterated tilted 2-representation-finite algebras. By passing to 3-preprojective algebras, we…
We study tilting complexes over preprojective algebras of Dynkin type. We classify all tilting complexes by giving a bijection between tilting complexes and the braid group of the corresponding folded graph. In particular, we determine the derived equivalence class of the algebra. For the results, we develop the theory of silting-discrete triangulated categories and give a criterion of silting-discreteness.
In this paper, we study a relationship between tilting modules with finite projective dimension and dominant dimension with respect to injective modules as a generalization of results of Crawley-Boevey-Sauter, Nguyen-Reiten-Todorov-Zhu and Pressland-Sauter. Moreover, we give characterizations of almost $n$-Auslander-Gorenstein algebras and almost $n$-Auslander algebras by the existence of tilting modules. As an application, we describe a sufficient condition for almost $1$-Auslander algebras to be strongly quasi-hereditary by comparing such tilting modules and characteristic tilting modules.
We introduce the notion of n-representation-finiteness, generalizing representation-finite hereditary algebras. We establish the procedure of n-APR tilting, and show that it preserves n-representation-finiteness. We give some combinatorial description of this procedure, and use this to completely describe a class of n-representation-finite algebras called "type A".
Happel and Unger reconstructed hereditary algebras from their posets of tilting modules. Inspired by this result, we try removing the assumption to be hereditary. However, it would be unfortunately fail in general: e.g. every selfinjective algebra has the poset consisting of only one point. Therefore, we should consider a generalization of the Happel-Unger's result for posets of support $τ$-tilting modules, which contains those of tilting modules. In this paper, we spotlight finite dimensional algebras whose support $τ$-tilting posets coincide with those of tree quiver algebras and give a full…
We study 2-term tilting complexes of Brauer tree algebras in terms of simplicial complexes. We show the symmetry and convexity of the simplicial complexes as lattice polytopes. Via a geometric interpretation of derived equivalences, we show that the $f$-vector of simplicial complexes of Brauer tree algebras only depends the number of the edges of the Brauer trees and hence it is a derived invariant. In particular, this result implies that the number of 2-term tilting complexes, which is in bijection with support $τ$-tilting modules, is a derived invariant. Moreover, we apply our result to the …
The blob algebra is a finite-dimensional quotient of the Hecke algebra of type $B$ which is almost always quasi-hereditary. We construct the indecomposable tilting modules for the blob algebra over a field of characteristic $0$ in the doubly critical case. Every indecomposable tilting module of maximal highest weight is either a projective module or an extension of a simple module by a projective module. Moreover, every indecomposable tilting module is a submodule of an indecomposable tilting module of maximal highest weight. We conclude that the graded Weyl multiplicities of the indecomposabl…
Let $p$ be a prime number, $k$ an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$, $\tilde{G}$ a finite group, and $G$ a normal subgroup of $\tilde{G}$ having a $p$-power index in $\tilde{G}$. Moreover let $B$ be a block of $kG$ with a cyclic defect group and $\tilde{B}$ be the unique block of $k\tilde{G}$ covering $B$. We study tilting complexes over the block $\tilde{B}$ and show that the block $\tilde{B}$ is a tilting-discrete algebra. Moreover we show that the set of all tilting complexes over $\tilde{B}$ is isomorphic to that over $B$ as partially ordered sets.
We study IE-closed subcategories of a module category, subcategories which are closed under taking Images and Extensions. We investigate the relation between IE-closed subcategories and torsion pairs, and characterize $τ$-tilting finite algebras using IE-closed subcategories. For the hereditary case, we show that IE-closed subcategories can be classified by twin rigid modules, pairs of rigid modules satisfying some homological conditions. Moreover, we introduce mutation of twin rigid modules analogously to tilting modules, which gives a way to calculate all twin rigid modules for the represent…
In this article, we initiate the study of hereditary extriangulated categories. Many important categories arising in representation theory in connection with various theories of mutation are hereditary extriangulated. Special cases include homotopy categories of 2-term complexes with projective components, which are related to silting mutation, and cluster categories (with relevant relative extriangulated structures) where cluster tilting mutation take place. We prove that there is a theory of irreducible mutation for maximal rigid objects and subcategories in hereditary extriangulated categor…
Let B be an extriangulated category with enough projectives and enough injectives. Let C be a fully rigid subcategory of B which admits a twin cotorsion pair ((C,K),(K,D)). The quotient category B/K is abelian, we assume that it is hereditary and has finite length. In this article, we study the relation between support tilting subcategories of B/K and maximal relative rigid subcategories of B. More precisely, we show that the image of any cluster tilting subcategory of B is support tilting in B/K and any support tilting subcategory in B/K can be lifted to a unique relative maximal rigid subcat…
