Motivated by the structure of the algebras associated to the blocks of the BGG-category O we define a subclass of quasi-hereditary algebras called 1-quasi-hereditary. Many properties of these algebras only depend on the defining partial order. In particular, we can determine the quiver and the form of the relations. Moreover, if the Ringel dual of a 1-quasi-hereditary algebra is also 1-quasi-hereditary, then the structure of the characteristic tilting module can be computed.
Dlab and Ringel showed that algebras being quasi-hereditary in all orders for indices of primitive idempotents becomes hereditary. So, we are interested in for which orders a given quasi-hereditary algebra is again quasi-hereditary. As a matter of fact, we consider permutations of indices, and if the algebra with permuted indices is quasi-hereditary, then we say that this permutation gives a quasi-hereditary structure. In this article, we first give a criterion for adjacent transpositions giving quasi-hereditary structures, in terms of homological conditions of standard or costandard modules o…
Dlab and Ringel showed that algebras being quasi-hereditary in all total orders for indices of primitive idempotents becomes hereditary. So, we are interested in for which orders a given quasi-hereditary algebra is again quasi-hereditary. As a matter of fact, we consider permutations of indices instead of total orders. If the standard modules defined by two permutations coincide, we say that the permutations are equivalent. Moreover if the algebra with permuted indices is quasi-hereditary, then this equivalence class of the permutation is called a quasi-hereditary structure. In this article, w…
Establishing whether an algebra is quasi-hereditary or not is, in general, a difficult problem. In this paper we introduce a sufficient criterion to determine whether a general finite dimensional algebra is quasi-hereditary by showing that the question can be reduced to showing that a closely associated monomial algebra is quasi-hereditary. For monomial algebras, we give an explicit, easily verifiable, necessary and sufficient criterion to determine whether it is quasi-hereditary.
We show how any finite-dimensional algebra can be realized as an idempotent subquotient of some symmetric quasi-hereditary algebra. In the special case of rigid symmetric algebras we show that they can be realized as centralizer subalgebras of symmetric quasi-hereditary algebras. We also show that the infinite-dimensional symmetric quasi-hereditary algebras we construct admit quasi-hereditary structure with respect to two opposite orders, that they have strong exact Borel and $Δ$-subalgebras and the corresponding triangular decompositions.
Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra and $X$ a finitely generated $Λ$-module. Iyama has shown that there exists a module $Y$ such that the endomorphism ring $Γ$ of $X\oplus Y$ is quasi-hereditary, with a heredity chain of length $n$, and that the global dimension of $Γ$ is bounded by this $n$. In general, one only knows that a quasi-hereditary algebra with a heredity chain of length $n$ must have global dimension at most $2n-2$. We want to show that Iyama's better bound is related to the fact that the ring $Γ$ he constructs is not only quasi-hereditary, but even left strongly quasi-hereditary: By defin…
Recollements of abelian categories are used as a basis of a homological and recursive approach to quasi-hereditary algebras. This yields a homological proof of Dlab and Ringel's characterisation of idempotent ideals occuring in heredity chains, which in turn characterises quasi-hereditary algebras recursively. Further applications are given to hereditary algebras and to Morita context rings.
A notion of a split quasi-hereditary algebra has been defined by Cline, Parshall and Scott. Du and Rui describe a based approach to split quasi-hereditary algebras. We develop this approach further to show that over a complete local Noetherian ring, one can achieve even stronger basis properties. This is important for `schurifying' quasi-hereditary algebras as developed in our subsequent work. The schurification procedure associates to an algebra $A$ a new algebra, which is the classical Schur algebra if $A$ is a field. Schurification produces interesting new quasi-hereditary and cellular alge…
In arXiv:1104.4441 it was shown that any 1-quasi-hereditary algebra affords a particular basis which is related to a given partial order on the set of simple modules. We show that the modules generated by these basis-elements are also modules over the endomorphism algebra of some projective indecomposable modules. In case the Ringel-dual of a 1-quasi-hereditary algebra is also 1-quasi-hereditary, we describe all local Delta-good submodules of projective indecomposable modules. We also consider several examples.
Koenig, Külshammer and Ovsienko showed that Morita equivalence classes of quasi-hereditary algebras are in one-to-one correspondence with equivalence classes of the module categories over directed bocses. In this article, we extend this result to $Δ$-filtered algebras and $\overlineΔ$-filtered algebras.
We define and study new classes of quasi-hereditary and cellular algebras which generalize Turner's double algebras. Turner's algebras provide a local description of blocks of symmetric groups up to derived equivalence. Our general construction allows one to `schurify' any quasi-hereditary algebra $A$ to obtain a generalized Schur algebra $S^A(n,d)$ which we prove is again quasi-hereditary if $d\leq n$. We describe decomposition numbers of $S^A(n,d)$ in terms of those of $A$ and the classical Schur algebra $S(n,d)$. In fact, it is essential to work with quasi-hereditary superalgebras $A$, in w…
We show that taking the wreath product of a quasi-hereditary algebra with symmetric group inherits several homological properties of the original algebra, namely BGG duality, standard Koszulity, balancedness as well as a condition which makes the Ext-algebra of its standard modules a Koszul algebra.
We determine the structure of all finite-dimensional self-injective algebras over a field whose Auslander-Reiten quiver admits a hereditary stable slice.
We show that the cluster complex of an arbitrary hereditary artin algebra has the structure of an abstract simplicial polytope. In particular, the cluster-tilting objects form one equivalence class under mutation.
This paper surveys bocses, quasi-hereditary algebras and their relationship which was established in a recent result by Koenig, Ovsienko, and the author. Particular emphasis is placed on applications of this result to the representation type of the category filtered by standard modules for a quasi-hereditary algebra. In this direction, joint work with Thiel is presented showing that the subcategory of modules filtered by Weyl modules for tame Schur algebras is of finite representation type. The paper also includes a new proof for the classification of quasi-hereditary algebras with two simple …
In this short paper we prove that a finite dimensional algebra is hereditary if and only if there is no loop in its ordinary quiver and every $τ$-tilting module is tilting.
The "No Gap Conjecture" of Brüstle-Dupont-Pérotin states that the set of lengths of maximal green sequences for hereditary algebras over an algebraically closed field has no gaps. This follows from a stronger conjecture that any two maximal green sequences can be "polygonally deformed" into each other. We prove this stronger conjecture for all tame hereditary algebras over any field.
We study composition series of derived module categories in the sense of Angeleri Hügel, König & Liu for quasi-hereditary algebras. More precisely, we show that having a composition series with all factors being derived categories of vector spaces does not characterise derived categories of quasi-hereditay algebras. This gives a negative answer to a question of Liu & Yang and the proof also confirms part of a conjecture of Bobiński & Malicki. In another direction, we show that derived categories of quasi-hereditary algebras can have composition series with lots of different lengths and composi…
We give a complete picture of the interaction between Koszul and Ringel dualities for quasi-hereditary algebras admitting linear tilting (co)resolutions of standard and costandard modules. We show that such algebras are Koszul, that the class of these algebras is closed with respect to both dualities and that on this class these two dualities commute. All arguments reduce to short computations in the bounded derived category of graded modules.
We show that all finite dimensional, tame hereditary $k$-algebras are of amenable representation type (in the sense of G. Elek) for all fields $k$. The proof is adapted from our previous result for tame path algebras. Further, it is proven that this results extends to some tilted algebras, in particular tame concealed algebras are amenable.
Let $A$ be a quasi-hereditary algebra. We prove that in many cases, a tilting module is rigid (i.e. has identical radical and socle series) if it does not have certain subquotients whose composition factors extend more than one layer in the radical series or the socle series. We apply this theorem to give new results about the radical series of some tilting modules for $SL_4(K)$, where $K$ is a field of positive characteristic.
This paper deals with stratifying systems over hereditary algebras. In the case of tame hereditary algebras we obtain a bound for the size of the stratifying systems composed only by regular modules and we conclude that stratifying systems can not be complete. For wild hereditary algebras with more than 2 vertices we show that there exists a complete stratifying system whose elements are regular modules. In the other case, we conclude that there are no stratifing system over them with regular modules. In one example we built all the stratifying systems, with a specific form, having maximal num…
We present an easily applicable sufficient condition for standard Koszul algebras to be Koszul with respect to $Δ$. If a quasi-hereditary algebra $Ł$ is Koszul with respect to $Δ$, then $Ł$ and the Yoneda extension algebra of $Δ$ are Koszul dual in a sense explained below, implying in particular that their bounded derived categories of finitely generated graded modules are equivalent. We also prove that the extension algebra of $Δ$ is Koszul in the classical sense.
The dominant dimension of algebras in the class A of 1-quasi-hereditary algebras is at least two. By the Morita-Tachikawa Theorem this implies that A is related to a certain class B of algebras via bimodules satisfying the double centralizer condition. In this paper we specify the class B and the modules over algebras in B connected with A. The class A is not closed under taking the Ringel-dual. However the dominant dimension of the Ringel-dual R(q) of a 1-quasi-hereditary algebra q is at least two. This fact induces a corresponding concept of modules over algebras in B which yield the algebra…
Quasi-hereditary were introduced by L. Scott \cite{Scott, CPS1,CPS2} in order to deal highest weight categories as they arise in the representation theory of semi-simple complex Lie algebras and algebraic groups, and they have been a very important tool in the study of finite-dimensional algebras. On the other hand, functor categories were introduced in representation theory by M. Auslander [A], [AQM] and used in his proof of the first Brauer-Thrall conjecture [A2] and later on used systematically in his joint work with I. Reiten on stable equivalence [AR], [AR2] and many other applications. R…
Let A be a connected hereditary artin algebra. We show that the set of functorially finite torsion classes of A-modules is a lattice if and only if A is either representation-finite (thus a Dynkin algebra) or A has only two simple modules. For the case of A being the path algebra of a quiver, this result has recently been established by Iyama-Reiten-Thomas-Todorov and our proof follows closely their considerations.
Let $A$ be a tame hereditary algebra over a finite field $k$ with $q$ elements, and ${\bar{A}}$ be the duplicated algebra of $A$. In this paper, we investigate the structure of Ringel-Hall algebra $\mathscr{H} (\bar{A})$ and of the corresponding composition algebra $\mathscr{C} (\bar{A})$. As an application, we prove the existence of Hall polynomials $g_{XY}^M$ for any $\bar{A}$-modules $M, X$ and $Y$ with $X$ and $Y$ indecomposable if $A$ is a tame quiver $k$-algebra, then we also obtain some Lie subalgebras induced by $\bar{A}$.
In this paper we state and prove the statement that tame hereditary algebras have finitely many m-maximal green sequences using a generalized version of Brüstle-Dupont-Pérotin's argument that tame quivers have finitely many maximal green sequences. Then we extend this theorem to mutation sequences which are partially red.
Motivated by the study of (m,n)-quasitilted algebras, which are the piecewise hereditary algebras obtained from quasitilted algebras of global dimension two by a sequence of (co)tiltings involving n-1 tilting modules and m-1 cotilting modules, we introduce (m,n)-almost hereditary algebras. These are the algebras with global dimension m+n and such that any indecomposable module has projective dimension at most m, or else injective dimension at most n. We relate these two classes of algebras, among which (m,1)-almost hereditary ones play a special role. For these, we prove that any indecomposabl…
Let $\sO$ be a discrete valuation ring with fraction field $K$ and residue field $k$. A quasi-hereditary algebra $\wA$ over $\sO$ provides a bridge between the representation theory of the quasi-hereditary algebra $\wA_K:=K\otimes \wA$ over the field $K$ and the quasi-hereditary algebra $A_k:=k\otimes_\sO\wA$ over $k$. In one important example, $\wA_K$--mod is a full subcategory of the category of modules for a quantum enveloping algebra while $\wA_k$--mod is a full subcategory of the category of modules for a reductive group in positive characteristic. This paper considers first the question …
Let $KΔ$ be the incidence algebra associated with a finite poset $(Δ,\preceq)$ over the algebraically closed field $K$. We present a study of incidence algebras $KΔ$ that are piecewise hereditary, which we denominate PHI algebras. We investigate the strong global dimension, the simply conectedeness and the one-point extension algebras over a PHI algebras. We also give a positive answer to the so-called Skowroński problem for $KΔ$ a PHI algebra which is not of wild quiver type. That is for this kind of algebra we show that $HH^1(KΔ)$ is trivial if, and only if, $KΔ$ is a simply connected algebr…
This is a translation of the diploma thesis of Thomas Brüstle, Darstellungsköcher der erblichen Algebren vom Typ $\tilde{A}_n$, written in German, at the University of Zurich, August 1990. Supervisor: P. Gabriel. Translated by K. Baur, May 2013
The authors have proved in [J. Algebra Appl. 14 (2015), no. 6] that the size of a stratifying system over a finite-dimensional hereditary path algebra $A$ is at most $n$, where $n$ is the number of isomorphism classes of simple $A$-modules. Moreover, if $A$ is of Euclidean type a stratifying system over $A$ has at most $n-2$ regular modules. In this work, we construct a family of stratifying systems of size $n$ with a maximal number of regular elements, over the hereditary path algebra with quiver $\widetilde{\mathbb {A}}_{p,q} $, canonically oriented.
Let $A$ be a finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbf{k}$. If $A$ is quasi-hereditary and the projective dimensions of all standard modules are at most one, then $A$ is called left strongly quasi-hereditary. In this paper, we construct a special heredity chain for left strongly quasi-hereditary algebras. Moreover, we show the quotient algebra by an ideal which appears in a special heredity chain of left strongly quasi-hereditary algebra is also left strongly quasi-hereditary algebra.
Ringel's right-strongly quasi-hereditary algebras are a distinguished class of quasi-hereditary algebras of Cline-Parshall-Scott. We give characterizations of these algebras in terms of heredity chains and right rejective subcategories. We prove that any artin algebra of global dimension at most two is right-strongly quasi-hereditary. Moreover we show that the Auslander algebra of a representation-finite algebra $A$ is strongly quasi-hereditary if and only if $A$ is a Nakayama algebra.
A quasi-hereditary algebra is an Artin algebra together with a partial order on its set of isomorphism classes of simple modules which satisfies certain conditions. In this article we investigate all the possible choices that yield to quasi-hereditary structures on a given algebra, in particular we introduce and study what we call the poset of quasi-hereditary structures. Our techniques involve certain quiver decompositions and idempotent reductions. For a path algebra of Dynkin type $\mathbb{A}$, we provide a full classification of its quasi-hereditary structures. For types $\mathbb{D}$ and $…
We present a study on the description of incidence algebras that are piecewise hereditary, which we denominate Phia algebras. We describe the quiver with relations of the Phia algebras of Dynkin type and introduce a new family of Phia algebras of extended Dynkin type, which we call ANS family, in reference to Assem, Nehring, and Skowroński. In this description, the important method was the one of cutting sets on trivial extensions, inspired by this we made of a computer program which shows exactly the cutting sets on the given trivial extension that result on incidence algebras.
We describe the derived Picard groups and two-term silting complexes for quasi-hereditary algebras with two simple modules. We also describe by quivers with relations all algebras derived equivalent to a quasi-hereditary algebra with two simple modules.
We show that the main results of Happel-Rickard-Schofield (1988) and Happel-Reiten-Smalo (1996) on piecewise hereditary algebras are coherent with the notion of group action on an algebra. Then, we take advantage of this compatibility and show that if G is a finite group acting on a piecewise hereditary algebra A over an algebraically closed field whose characteristic does not divide the order of G, then the resulting skew group algebra A[G] is also piecewise hereditary.
We investigate the Galois coverings of piecewise algebras and more particularly their behaviour under derived equivalences. Under a technical assumption which is satisfied if the algebra is derived equivalent to a hereditary algebra, we prove that there exists a universal Galois covering whose group of automorphisms is free and depends only on the derived category of the algebra. As a corollary, we prove that the algebra is simply connected if and only if its first Hochschild cohomology vanishes.
We show that there exists a natural non-degenerate pairing of the homomorphism space between two neighbor standard modules over a quasi-hereditary algebra with the first extension space between the corresponding costandard modules and vise versa. Investigation of this phenomenon leads to a family of pairings involving standard, costandard and tilting modules. In the graded case, under some "Koszul-like" assumptions (which we prove are satisfied for example for the blocks of the category $\mathcal{O}$), we obtain a non-degenerate pairing between certain graded homomorphism and graded extension …
In this paper we consider how the \nabla-, Δ- and global dimensions of a quasi-hereditary algebra are interrelated. We first consider quasi-hereditary algebras with simple preserving duality and such that if μ< λthen \nabla fd(L(μ)) < \nabla fd(L(λ)) where μ, λare in the poset and L(μ), L(λ) are the corresponding simples. We show that in this case the global dimension of the algebra is twice its \nabla-filtration dimension. We then consider more general quasi-hereditary algebras and look at how these dimensions are affected by the Ringel dual and by two forms of truncation. We restrict again t…
In this note we are concerned with the notion of amenable representation type as defined in a recent paper by Gábor Elek. Roughly speaking, an algebra is of amenable type if for all $\varepsilon > 0$, every finite-dimensional module has a submodule which is a direct sum of modules which are small with respect to $\varepsilon$ such that the quotient is also small in that respect. We will show that the tame hereditary path algebras of quivers of extended Dynkin type over any field $k$ are of amenable type, thus extending a conjecture in the aforementioned paper to another class of tame algebras.…
We show that for the path algebra $A$ of an acyclic quiver, the singularity category of the derived category $\mathsf{D}^{\rm b}(\mathsf{mod}\,A)$ is triangle equivalent to the derived category of the functor category of $\underline{\mathsf{mod}}\,A$, that is, $\mathsf{D}_{\rm sg}(\mathsf{D}^{\rm b}(\mathsf{mod}\,A))\simeq \mathsf{D}^{\rm b}(\mathsf{mod}(\underline{\mathsf{mod}}\,A))$. This extends a result of Iyama-Oppermann for the path algebra $A$ of a Dynkin quiver. An important step is to establish a functor category analog of Happel's triangle equivalence for repetitive algebras.
We give a complete classification of the infinite dimensional tilting modules over a tame hereditary algebra R. We start our investigations by considering tilting modules of the form T=R_U\oplus R_U /R where U is a union of tubes, and R_U denotes the universal localization of R at U in the sense of Schofield and Crawley-Boevey. Here R_U/R is a direct sum of the Prüfer modules corresponding to the tubes in U. Over the Kronecker algebra, large tilting modules are of this form in all but one case, the exception being the Lukas tilting module L whose tilting class Gen L consists of all modules wit…
We give necessary and sufficient conditions for torsion pairs in a hereditary category to be in bijection with $t$-structures in the bounded derived category of that hereditary category. We prove that the existence of a split $t$-structure with nontrivial heart in a semiconnected Krull-Schmidt category implies that this category is equivalent to the derived category of a hereditary category. We construct a bijection between split torsion pairs in the module category of a tilted algebra having a complete slice in the preinjective component with corresponding $t$-structures. Finally, we classify…
