We show that if H is a hereditary finite dimensional algebra, M is a finitely generated H-module and B is a semisimple subalgebra of the endomorphism algebra of M, then the representation dimension of the corresponding triangular matrix algebra is less or equal to 3 whenever one of the following conditions hold: i) H is of finite representation type; ii) H is tame and M is a direct sum of regular and preprojective modules; iii) M has no self-extensions
We show that the main results of Happel-Rickard-Schofield (1988) and Happel-Reiten-Smalo (1996) on piecewise hereditary algebras are coherent with the notion of group action on an algebra. Then, we take advantage of this compatibility and show that if G is a finite group acting on a piecewise hereditary algebra A over an algebraically closed field whose characteristic does not divide the order of G, then the resulting skew group algebra A[G] is also piecewise hereditary.
Ringel's right-strongly quasi-hereditary algebras are a distinguished class of quasi-hereditary algebras of Cline-Parshall-Scott. We give characterizations of these algebras in terms of heredity chains and right rejective subcategories. We prove that any artin algebra of global dimension at most two is right-strongly quasi-hereditary. Moreover we show that the Auslander algebra of a representation-finite algebra $A$ is strongly quasi-hereditary if and only if $A$ is a Nakayama algebra.
Let $A$ be a finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbf{k}$. If $A$ is quasi-hereditary and the projective dimensions of all standard modules are at most one, then $A$ is called left strongly quasi-hereditary. In this paper, we construct a special heredity chain for left strongly quasi-hereditary algebras. Moreover, we show the quotient algebra by an ideal which appears in a special heredity chain of left strongly quasi-hereditary algebra is also left strongly quasi-hereditary algebra.
We develop a structure theory for two classes of infinite dimensional modules over tame hereditary algebras: the Baer modules, and the Mittag-Leffler ones.
Following the work of Beilinson, Bernstein and Deligne, we study restriction and induction of t-structures in triangulated categories with respect to recollements. For derived categories of piecewise hereditary algebras we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a bounded t-structure to be induced from a recollement by derived categories of algebras. As a corollary we prove that for hereditary algebras of finite representation type all bounded t-structures can be obtained in this way.
In this paper we consider how the \nabla-, Δ- and global dimensions of a quasi-hereditary algebra are interrelated. We first consider quasi-hereditary algebras with simple preserving duality and such that if μ< λthen \nabla fd(L(μ)) < \nabla fd(L(λ)) where μ, λare in the poset and L(μ), L(λ) are the corresponding simples. We show that in this case the global dimension of the algebra is twice its \nabla-filtration dimension. We then consider more general quasi-hereditary algebras and look at how these dimensions are affected by the Ringel dual and by two forms of truncation. We restrict again t…
We use the characteristic polynomial of the Coxeter matrix of an algebra to complete the combinatorial classification of piecewise hereditary algebras which Happel gave in terms of the trace of the Coxeter matrix. We also give a cohomological interpretation of the coefficients (other than the trace) of the characteristic polynomial of the Coxeter matrix of any finite dimensional algebra with finite global dimension.
We classify $n$-hereditary monomial algebras in three natural contexts: First, we give a classification of the $n$-hereditary truncated path algebras. We show that they are exactly the $n$-representation-finite Nakayama algebras classified by Vaso. Next, we classify partially the $n$-hereditary quadratic monomial algebras. In the case $n=2$, we prove that there are only two examples, provided that the preprojective algebra is a planar quiver with potential. The first one is a Nakayama algebra and the second one is obtained by mutating $\mathbb A_3\otimes_k \mathbb A_3$, where $\mathbb A_3$ is …
A Jordan Hölder theorem is established for derived module categories of piecewise hereditary algebras. The resulting composition series of derived categories are shown to be independent of the choice of bounded or unbounded derived module categories, and also of the choice of finitely generated or arbitrary modules.
Let k be a field, let A a finite-dimensional hereditary k-algebra. We consider the category of all finite-dimensional A-modules. We are going to characterize the representation type of A (tame or wild) in terms of the possible subcategories of all M-static modules, where M is an indecomposable A-module.
The aim of this paper is to define and study some quasi-hereditary covers for higher zigzag algebras. We will show how these algebras satisfy three different Koszul properties: they are Koszul in the classical sense, standard Koszul and Koszul with respect to the standard module $Δ$, according with the definition given in \cite{Madsen1}. This last property gives rise to a well defined duality and the $Δ$-Koszul dual will be computed as the path algebra of a quiver with relations.
Let $Λ$ be a finite dimensional algebra and $G$ be a finite group whose elements act on $Λ$ as algebra automorphisms. Under the assumption that $Λ$ has a complete set $E$ of primitive orthogonal idempotents, closed under the action of a Sylow $p$-subgroup $S \leqslant G$. If the action of $S$ on $E$ is free, we show that the skew group algebra $ΛG$ and $Λ$ have the same finitistic dimension, and have the same strong global dimension if the fixed algebra $Λ^S$ is a direct summand of the $Λ^S$-bimodule $Λ$. Using a homological characterization of piecewise hereditary algebras proved by Happel an…
We give bounds on the global dimension of a finite length, piecewise hereditary category in terms of quantitative connectivity properties of its graph of indecomposables. We use this to show that the global dimension of a finite dimensional, piecewise hereditary algebra A cannot exceed 3 if A is an incidence algebra of a finite poset or more generally, a sincere algebra. This bound is tight.
Up to Morita equivalence, every quasi-hereditary algebra is the dual algebra of a directed bocs or coring. From the bocs, an exact Borel subalgebra is obtained. In this paper a characterisation of exact Borel subalgebras arising in this way is given.
Establishing whether an algebra is quasi-hereditary or not is, in general, a difficult problem. In this paper we introduce a sufficient criterion to determine whether a general finite dimensional algebra is quasi-hereditary by showing that the question can be reduced to showing that a closely associated monomial algebra is quasi-hereditary. For monomial algebras, we give an explicit, easily verifiable, necessary and sufficient criterion to determine whether it is quasi-hereditary.
We study IE-closed subcategories of a module category, subcategories which are closed under taking Images and Extensions. We investigate the relation between IE-closed subcategories and torsion pairs, and characterize $τ$-tilting finite algebras using IE-closed subcategories. For the hereditary case, we show that IE-closed subcategories can be classified by twin rigid modules, pairs of rigid modules satisfying some homological conditions. Moreover, we introduce mutation of twin rigid modules analogously to tilting modules, which gives a way to calculate all twin rigid modules for the represent…
We determine the structure of all finite-dimensional self-injective algebras over a field whose Auslander-Reiten quiver admits a hereditary stable slice.
A notion of a split quasi-hereditary algebra has been defined by Cline, Parshall and Scott. Du and Rui describe a based approach to split quasi-hereditary algebras. We develop this approach further to show that over a complete local Noetherian ring, one can achieve even stronger basis properties. This is important for `schurifying' quasi-hereditary algebras as developed in our subsequent work. The schurification procedure associates to an algebra $A$ a new algebra, which is the classical Schur algebra if $A$ is a field. Schurification produces interesting new quasi-hereditary and cellular alge…
Recollements of abelian categories are used as a basis of a homological and recursive approach to quasi-hereditary algebras. This yields a homological proof of Dlab and Ringel's characterisation of idempotent ideals occuring in heredity chains, which in turn characterises quasi-hereditary algebras recursively. Further applications are given to hereditary algebras and to Morita context rings.
Motivated by the structure of the algebras associated to the blocks of the BGG-category O we define a subclass of quasi-hereditary algebras called 1-quasi-hereditary. Many properties of these algebras only depend on the defining partial order. In particular, we can determine the quiver and the form of the relations. Moreover, if the Ringel dual of a 1-quasi-hereditary algebra is also 1-quasi-hereditary, then the structure of the characteristic tilting module can be computed.
We show that the cluster complex of an arbitrary hereditary artin algebra has the structure of an abstract simplicial polytope. In particular, the cluster-tilting objects form one equivalence class under mutation.
In this short paper we prove that a finite dimensional algebra is hereditary if and only if there is no loop in its ordinary quiver and every $τ$-tilting module is tilting.
Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra and $X$ a finitely generated $Λ$-module. Iyama has shown that there exists a module $Y$ such that the endomorphism ring $Γ$ of $X\oplus Y$ is quasi-hereditary, with a heredity chain of length $n$, and that the global dimension of $Γ$ is bounded by this $n$. In general, one only knows that a quasi-hereditary algebra with a heredity chain of length $n$ must have global dimension at most $2n-2$. We want to show that Iyama's better bound is related to the fact that the ring $Γ$ he constructs is not only quasi-hereditary, but even left strongly quasi-hereditary: By defin…
We show that taking the wreath product of a quasi-hereditary algebra with symmetric group inherits several homological properties of the original algebra, namely BGG duality, standard Koszulity, balancedness as well as a condition which makes the Ext-algebra of its standard modules a Koszul algebra.
We show how any finite-dimensional algebra can be realized as an idempotent subquotient of some symmetric quasi-hereditary algebra. In the special case of rigid symmetric algebras we show that they can be realized as centralizer subalgebras of symmetric quasi-hereditary algebras. We also show that the infinite-dimensional symmetric quasi-hereditary algebras we construct admit quasi-hereditary structure with respect to two opposite orders, that they have strong exact Borel and $Δ$-subalgebras and the corresponding triangular decompositions.
The "No Gap Conjecture" of Brüstle-Dupont-Pérotin states that the set of lengths of maximal green sequences for hereditary algebras over an algebraically closed field has no gaps. This follows from a stronger conjecture that any two maximal green sequences can be "polygonally deformed" into each other. We prove this stronger conjecture for all tame hereditary algebras over any field.
Koenig, Külshammer and Ovsienko showed that Morita equivalence classes of quasi-hereditary algebras are in one-to-one correspondence with equivalence classes of the module categories over directed bocses. In this article, we extend this result to $Δ$-filtered algebras and $\overlineΔ$-filtered algebras.
We describe necessary and sufficient conditions for the hereditarity of the category algebra of an infinite EI category satisfying certain combinatorial assumptions. More generally, we discuss conditions such that the left global dimension of a category algebra equals the maximal left global dimension of the endomorphism algebras of its objects, and classify its projective modules in this case. As applications, we completely classify transporter categories, orbit categories, and Quillen categories with left hereditary category algebras over a field.
We define and study new classes of quasi-hereditary and cellular algebras which generalize Turner's double algebras. Turner's algebras provide a local description of blocks of symmetric groups up to derived equivalence. Our general construction allows one to `schurify' any quasi-hereditary algebra $A$ to obtain a generalized Schur algebra $S^A(n,d)$ which we prove is again quasi-hereditary if $d\leq n$. We describe decomposition numbers of $S^A(n,d)$ in terms of those of $A$ and the classical Schur algebra $S(n,d)$. In fact, it is essential to work with quasi-hereditary superalgebras $A$, in w…
In arXiv:1104.4441 it was shown that any 1-quasi-hereditary algebra affords a particular basis which is related to a given partial order on the set of simple modules. We show that the modules generated by these basis-elements are also modules over the endomorphism algebra of some projective indecomposable modules. In case the Ringel-dual of a 1-quasi-hereditary algebra is also 1-quasi-hereditary, we describe all local Delta-good submodules of projective indecomposable modules. We also consider several examples.
We show that all finite dimensional, tame hereditary $k$-algebras are of amenable representation type (in the sense of G. Elek) for all fields $k$. The proof is adapted from our previous result for tame path algebras. Further, it is proven that this results extends to some tilted algebras, in particular tame concealed algebras are amenable.
For any Koszul Artin-Schelter regular algebra A, we consider a version of the universal Hopf algebra aut(A) coacting on A, introduced by Manin. To study the representations (i.e. finite dimensional comodules) of this Hopf algebra, we use the Tannaka-Krein formalism. Specifically, we construct an explicit combinatorial rigid monoidal category U, equipped with a functor M to finite dimensional vector spaces such that aut(A)= coend_U(M). Using this pair (U,M) we show that aut(A) is quasi-hereditary as a coalgebra and in addition is derived equivalent to the representation category of U.
Dlab and Ringel showed that algebras being quasi-hereditary in all total orders for indices of primitive idempotents becomes hereditary. So, we are interested in for which orders a given quasi-hereditary algebra is again quasi-hereditary. As a matter of fact, we consider permutations of indices instead of total orders. If the standard modules defined by two permutations coincide, we say that the permutations are equivalent. Moreover if the algebra with permuted indices is quasi-hereditary, then this equivalence class of the permutation is called a quasi-hereditary structure. In this article, w…
This paper deals with stratifying systems over hereditary algebras. In the case of tame hereditary algebras we obtain a bound for the size of the stratifying systems composed only by regular modules and we conclude that stratifying systems can not be complete. For wild hereditary algebras with more than 2 vertices we show that there exists a complete stratifying system whose elements are regular modules. In the other case, we conclude that there are no stratifing system over them with regular modules. In one example we built all the stratifying systems, with a specific form, having maximal num…
Tilting bundles $\mathcal{T}$ on a weighted projective line $\mathbb{X}$ have been intensively studied by representation theorists since they give rise to a derived equivalence between $\mathbb{X}$ and the finite dimensional algebra End $\mathcal{T}$. A classical result states that if End $\mathcal{T}$ is hereditary, then $\mathbb{X}$ is Fano and conversely, for every Fano weighted projective line, there exists a tilting bundle $\mathcal{T}$ with End $\mathcal{T}$ hereditary. In this paper, we examine the question of when a weighted projective surface has a tilting bundle whose endomorphism ri…
We give a complete picture of the interaction between Koszul and Ringel dualities for quasi-hereditary algebras admitting linear tilting (co)resolutions of standard and costandard modules. We show that such algebras are Koszul, that the class of these algebras is closed with respect to both dualities and that on this class these two dualities commute. All arguments reduce to short computations in the bounded derived category of graded modules.
We discuss tilting modules of affine quasi-hereditary algebras. We present an existence theorem of indecomposable tilting modules when the algebra has a large center and use it to deduce a criterion for an exact functor between two affine highest weight categories to give an equivalence. As an application, we prove that the Arakawa-Suzuki functor [Arakawa-Suzuki, J. of Alg. 209 (1998)] gives a fully faithful embedding of a block of the deformed BGG category of $\mathfrak{gl}_{m}$ into the module category of a suitable completion of degenerate affine Hecke algebra of $GL_{n}$.
Dlab and Ringel showed that algebras being quasi-hereditary in all orders for indices of primitive idempotents becomes hereditary. So, we are interested in for which orders a given quasi-hereditary algebra is again quasi-hereditary. As a matter of fact, we consider permutations of indices, and if the algebra with permuted indices is quasi-hereditary, then we say that this permutation gives a quasi-hereditary structure. In this article, we first give a criterion for adjacent transpositions giving quasi-hereditary structures, in terms of homological conditions of standard or costandard modules o…
We describe the derived Picard groups and two-term silting complexes for quasi-hereditary algebras with two simple modules. We also describe by quivers with relations all algebras derived equivalent to a quasi-hereditary algebra with two simple modules.
In this paper, we consider the endomorphism algebras of infinitely generated tilting modules of the form $R_{\mathcal U}\oplus R_{\mathcal U}/R$ over tame hereditary $k$-algebras $R$ with $k$ an arbitrary field, where $R_{\mathcal{U}}$ is the universal localization of $R$ at an arbitrary set $\mathcal{U}$ of simple regular $R$-modules, and show that the derived module category of $\End_R(R_{\mathcal U}\oplus R_{\mathcal U}/R)$ is a recollement of the derived module category $\D{R}$ of $R$ and the derived module category $\D{{\mathbb A}_{\mathcal{U}}}$ of the adèle ring ${\mathbb A}_{\mathcal{U…
The dominant dimension of algebras in the class A of 1-quasi-hereditary algebras is at least two. By the Morita-Tachikawa Theorem this implies that A is related to a certain class B of algebras via bimodules satisfying the double centralizer condition. In this paper we specify the class B and the modules over algebras in B connected with A. The class A is not closed under taking the Ringel-dual. However the dominant dimension of the Ringel-dual R(q) of a 1-quasi-hereditary algebra q is at least two. This fact induces a corresponding concept of modules over algebras in B which yield the algebra…
Let A be a connected hereditary artin algebra. We show that the set of functorially finite torsion classes of A-modules is a lattice if and only if A is either representation-finite (thus a Dynkin algebra) or A has only two simple modules. For the case of A being the path algebra of a quiver, this result has recently been established by Iyama-Reiten-Thomas-Todorov and our proof follows closely their considerations.
Let $A$ be a tame hereditary algebra over a finite field $k$ with $q$ elements, and ${\bar{A}}$ be the duplicated algebra of $A$. In this paper, we investigate the structure of Ringel-Hall algebra $\mathscr{H} (\bar{A})$ and of the corresponding composition algebra $\mathscr{C} (\bar{A})$. As an application, we prove the existence of Hall polynomials $g_{XY}^M$ for any $\bar{A}$-modules $M, X$ and $Y$ with $X$ and $Y$ indecomposable if $A$ is a tame quiver $k$-algebra, then we also obtain some Lie subalgebras induced by $\bar{A}$.
In this paper we state and prove the statement that tame hereditary algebras have finitely many m-maximal green sequences using a generalized version of Brüstle-Dupont-Pérotin's argument that tame quivers have finitely many maximal green sequences. Then we extend this theorem to mutation sequences which are partially red.
This paper surveys bocses, quasi-hereditary algebras and their relationship which was established in a recent result by Koenig, Ovsienko, and the author. Particular emphasis is placed on applications of this result to the representation type of the category filtered by standard modules for a quasi-hereditary algebra. In this direction, joint work with Thiel is presented showing that the subcategory of modules filtered by Weyl modules for tame Schur algebras is of finite representation type. The paper also includes a new proof for the classification of quasi-hereditary algebras with two simple …
We give a simple proof, using Auslander-Reiten theory, that the preprojective algebra of a basic hereditary algebra of finite representation type is Frobenius. We then describe its Nakayama automorphism, which is induced by the Nakayama functor on the module category of our hereditary algebra.
