A few years ago Selivanova gave an existence proof for some integrable models, in fact geodesic flows on two dimensional manifolds, with a cubic first integral. However the explicit form of these models hinged on the solution of a nonlinear third order ordinary differential equation which could not be obtained. We show that an appropriate choice of coordinates allows for integration and gives the explicit local form for the full family of integrable systems. The relevant metrics are described by a finite number of parameters and lead to a large class of models on the manifolds ${\mb S}^2, {\mb H}^2$ and $P^2({\mb R})$ containing as special cases examples due to Goryachev, Chaplygin, Dullin, Matveev and Tsiganov.
A new set of discrete integrable equations, called face-centered quad equations, was recently obtained using new types of interaction-round-a-face solutions of the classical Yang-Baxter equation. These equations satisfy a new formulation of multidimensional consistency, known as consistency-around-a-face-centered-cube (CAFCC), which requires consistency of an overdetermined system of fourteen five-point equations on the face-centered cubic unit cell. In this paper a new formulation of CAFCC is introduced where so-called type-C equations are centered at faces of the face-centered cubic unit cel…
A tau function of the 2D Toda hierarchy can be obtained from a generating function of the two-partition cubic Hodge integrals. The associated Lax operators turn out to satisfy an algebraic relation. This algebraic relation can be used to identify a reduced system of the 2D Toda hierarchy that emerges when the parameter $τ$ of the cubic Hodge integrals takes a special value. Integrable hierarchies of the Volterra type are shown to be such reduced systems. They can be derived for positive rational values of $τ$. In particular, the discrete series $τ= 1,2,\ldots$ correspond to the Volterra lattic…
We consider the scaling similarity solutions of two integrable cubically nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) that admit peaked soliton (peakon) solutions, namely the modified Camassa-Holm (mCH) equation and Novikov's equation. By making use of suitable reciprocal transformations, which map the mCH equation and Novikov's equation to a negative mKdV flow and a negative Sawada-Kotera flow, respectively, we show that each of these scaling similarity reductions is related via a hodograph transformation to an equation of Painlevé type: for the mCH equation, its reduction is of second ord…
We present a series of Darboux integrable discrete equations on the square lattice. Equations of the series are numbered with natural numbers $M$. All the equations have a first integral of the first order in one of directions of the two-dimensional lattice. The minimal order of a first integral in the other direction is equal to $3M$ for an equation with the number $M$. In the cases $M=1,\ 2,\ 3$ we show that those equations are integrable in quadratures. More precisely, we construct their general solutions in terms of the discrete integrals. We also construct a modified series of Darboux int…
Application of intersection theory to construction of n-point finite-difference equations associated with classical integrable systems is discussed. As an example, we present a few exact discretizations of one-dimensional cubic and quintic Duffing oscillators sharing form of Hamiltonian and canonical Poisson bracket up to the integer scaling factor.
Affine transformations in Euclidean space generates a correspondence between integrable systems on cotangent bundles to the sphere, ellipsoid and hyperboloid embedded in $R^n$. Using this correspondence and the suitable coupling constant transformations we can get real integrals of motion in the hyperboloid case starting with real integrals of motion in the sphere case. We discuss a few such integrable systems with invariants which are cubic, quartic and sextic polynomials in momenta.
As the first step of proving the Hodge-FVH correspondence recently proposed in [19], we derive the Virasoro constraints and the Dubrovin--Zhang loop equation for special cubic Hodge integrals. We show that this loop equation has a unique solution, and provide a new algorithm for the computation of these Hodge integrals. We also observe the gap phenomenon for certain special cubic Hodge free energies.
The aim of the present article is to construct quadratically integrable three dimensional systems in non-vanishing magnetic fields which possess so-called non-subgroup type integrals. The presence of such integrals means that the system possesses a pair of integrals of motion in involution which are (at most) quadratic in momenta and whose leading order terms, that are necessarily elements of the enveloping algebra of the Euclidean algebra, are not quadratic Casimir operators of a chain of its subalgebras. By imposing in addition that one of the integrals has the leading order term $L_z^2$ we …
The goal of this thesis is the search for integrable and superintegrable systems with magnetic field. We formulate the quantum mechanical determining equations for second order integrals of motion in the cylindrical coordinates and we find all quadratically integrable systems of the cylindrical type. Among them we search for systems admitting additional integrals of motion. We find all systems with an additional first order integral both in classical and quantum mechanics. It turns out that all these systems have already been known and no other exist. We also find all systems with an additiona…
In this paper we give a short survey of recent results on algebraic version of the Birkhoff conjecture for integrable billiards on surfaces of constant curvature. We also discuss integrable magnetic billiards. As a new application of the algebraic technique we study the existence of polynomial integrals for the two-sided magnetic billiards introduced by Kozlov and Polikarpov.
In a recent paper (A. Mitsopoulos and M. Tsamparlis, J. Geom. Phys. 170, 104383, 2021), a general theorem is given which provides an algorithmic method for the computation of first integrals (FIs) of autonomous dynamical systems in terms of the symmetries of the kinetic metric defined by the dynamical equations of the system. In the present work, we apply this theorem to compute the cubic FIs of autonomous conservative Newtonian dynamical systems with two degrees of freedom. We show that the known results on this topic, which have been obtained by means of various different methods, and additi…
We point out the relevance of the Differential Galois Theory of linear differential equations for the exact semiclassical computations in path integrals in quantum mechanics. The main tool will be a necessary condition for complete integrability of classical Hamiltonian systems obtained by Ramis and myself : if a finite dimensional complex analytical Hamiltonian system is completely integrable with meromorphic first integrals, then the identity component of the Galois group of the variational equation around any integral curve must be abelian. A corollary of this result is that, for finite dim…
We prove existence, uniqueness and non-negativity of solutions of certain integral equations describing the density of states $u(z)$ in the spectral theory of soliton gases for the one dimensional integrable focusing Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation (fNLS) and for the Korteweg de Vries (KdV) equation. Our proofs are based on ideas and methods of potential theory. In particular, we show that the minimizing (positive) measure for certain energy functional is absolutely continuous and its density $u(z)\geq 0$ solves the required integral equation. In a similar fashion we show that $v(z)$, the tempo…
A conjecture on the relation between the cubic Hodge integrals and the topological vertex in topological string theory is resolved. A central role is played by the notion of generalized shift symmetries in a fermionic realization of the two-dimensional quantum torus algebra. These algebraic relations of operators in the fermionic Fock space are used to convert generating functions of the cubic Hodge integrals and the topological vertex to each other. As a byproduct, the generating function of the cubic Hodge integrals at special values of the parameters therein is shown to be a tau function of…
In this paper we outline the construction of semiclassical eigenfunctions of integrable models in terms of the semiclassical path integral for the Poisson sigma model with the target space being the phase space of the integrable system. The semiclassical path integral is defined as a formal power series with coefficients being Feynman diagrams. We also argue that in a similar way one can obtain irreducible semiclassical representations of Kontsevich's star product.
