Completely integrable Hamiltonian systems look promising for controllability since their first integrals are stable under an internal evolution, and one may hope to find a perturbation of a Hamiltonian which drives the first integrals at will. Action-angle coordinates are most convenient for this purpose. Written with respect to these coordinates, a Hamiltonian and first integrals depend only on the action ones. We introduce a suitable perturbation of a Hamiltonian by a term containing time-dependent parameters so that an evolution of action variables is nothing else than a displacement along a curve in a parameter space. Therefore, one can define this evolution in full by an appropriate choice of parameter functions. Similar holonomy controllability of finite level quantum systems is of special interes in connection with quantum computation. We provide geometric quantization of a time-dependent completely integrable Hamiltonian system in action-angle variables. Its Hamiltonian and first integrals have time-independent countable spectra. The holonomy control operator in this countable level quantum system is constructed.
Given a completely integrable system, we associate to any connection on its invariant tori fibred over a parameter manifold the classical and quantum holonomy operator (generalized Berry's phase factor), without any adiabatic approximation.
We show that Jacobi fields of a completely integrable Hamiltonian system of m degrees of freedom also make up a completely integrable system. They provide m additional first integrals which characterize a relative motion.
A time-dependent completely integrable Hamiltonian system is proved to admit the action-angle coordinates around any regular instantly compact invariant manifold. Written relative to these coordinates, its Hamiltonian and first integrals are functions only of action coordinates.
The obstruction to the existence of global action-angle coordinates of Abelian and noncommutative (non-Abelian) completely integrable systems with compact invariant submanifolds has been studied. We extend this analysis to the case of noncompact invariant submanifolds.
The main purpose of this article is to study from the geometric point of view the problem of limit cycles bifurcation of perturbed completely integrable systems.
We provide a constructive method designed in order to control the stability of a given periodic orbit of a general completely integrable system. The method consists of a specific type of perturbation, such that the resulting perturbed system becomes a codimension-one dissipative dynamical system which also admits that orbit as a periodic orbit, but whose stability can be a-priori prescribed. The main results are illustrated in the case of a three dimensional dissipative perturbation of the harmonic oscillator, and respectively Euler's equations form the free rigid body dynamics.
We provide a criterion in order to decide the stability of non-degenerate equilibrium states of completely integrable systems. More precisely, given a Hamilton-Poisson realization of a completely integrable system generated by a smooth $n-$ dimensional vector field, $X$, and a non-degenerate regular (in the Poisson sense) equilibrium state, $\overline{x}_e$, we define a scalar quantity, $\mathcal{I}_{X}(\overline{x}_e)$, whose sign determines the stability of the equilibrium. Moreover, if $\mathcal{I}_{X}(\overline{x}_e)>0$, then around $\overline{x}_e$ there exist one-parameter families of pe…
We construct Riemannian manifolds with completely integrable geodesic flows, in particular various nonhomogeneous examples. The methods employed are a modification of Thimm's method, Riemannian submersions and connected sums.
We study integrals of completely integrable quantum systems associated with classical root systems. We review integrals of the systems invariant under the corresponding Weyl group and as their limits we construct enough integrals of the non-invariant systems, which include systems whose complete integrability will be first established in this paper. We also present a conjecture claiming that the quantum systems with enough integrals given in this note coincide with the systems that have the integrals with constant principal symbols corresponding to the homogeneous generators of the $B_n$-invar…
The purpose of this article is to show that a $\mathcal{C}^1$ differential system on $\R^n$ which admits a set of $n-1$ independent $\mathcal{C}^2$ conservation laws defined on an open subset $Ω\subseteq \R^n$, is essentially $\mathcal{C}^1$ equivalent on an open and dense subset of $Ω$, with the linear differential system $u^\prime_1=u_1, \ u^\prime_2=u_2,..., \ u^\prime_n=u_n$. The main results are illustrated in the case of two concrete dynamical systems, namely the three dimensional Lotka-Volterra system, and respectively the Euler equations from the free rigid body dynamics.
Let $(M,Ω)$ be a connected symplectic 4-manifold and let $F=(J,H) : M \to \mathbb{R}^2$ be a completely integrable system on $M$ with only non-degenerate singularities and for which $J : M \to \mathbb{R}$ is a proper map. Assume that $F$ does not have singularities with hyperbolic blocks and that $p_1,...,p_n$ are the focus-focus singularities of $F$. For each subset $S=\{i_1,...,i_j\}$ we will show how to modify $F$ locally around any $p_i, i \in S$, in order to create a new integrable system $\tilde{F}=(J, \tilde{H}) : M \to \mathbb{R}^2$ such that its classical spectrum $\tilde{F}(M)$ conta…
We state two recent results concerning the linearization of integrable systems on generalised Jacobians. Then we apply this to the (complexified) spherical pendulum.
This paper is an announcement of a result followed with explanations of some ideas behind. The proofs will appear elsewhere. Our goal is to construct a Hamiltonian perturbation of any completely integrable Hamiltonian system with $2n$ degrees of freedom ($n\geq 2$). The perturbation is $C^{\infty}$ small but the resulting flow has positive metric entropy and it satisfies KAM non-degeneracy conditions. The key point is that positive entropy can be generated in an arbitrarily small tubular neighborhood of one trajectory.
The main purpose of this paper is to prove the smooth local orbital linearization theorem for smooth vector fields which admit a complete set of first integrals near a nondegenerate singular point. The main tools used in the proof of this theorem are the formal orbital linearization theorem for formal integrable vector fields, the blowing-up method, and the Sternberg-Chen isomorphism theorem for formally-equivalent smooth hyperbolic vector fields.
Suppose we are given a compact Riemannian manifold (Q,g)with completely integrable geodesic flow. Let G be a compact connected Lie group acting freely on Q by isometries. The natural question arises: will the geodesic flow on Q/G equipped with the submersion metric be integrable? Under one natural assumption, we prove that the answer is affirmative. New examples of manifolds with completely integrable geodesic flows are obtained.
This paper explains the recent developments on the symplectic theory of Hamiltonian completely integrable systems on symplectic 4-manifolds, compact or not. One fundamental ingredient of these developments has been the understanding of singular affine structures. These developments make use of results obtained by many authors in the second half of the twentieth century, notably Arnold, Duistermaat and Eliasson, of which we also give a concise survey. As a motivation, we present a collection of remarkable results proven in the early and mid 1980s in the theory of Hamiltonian Lie group actions b…
In this paper it is shown that the existence of two independent holomorphic first integrals for foliations by curves on (C^3,0) is not a topological invariant. More precisely, we provide an example of two topologically equivalent foliations such that only one of them admits two independent holomorphic first integrals. The existence of invariant surfaces over which the induced foliation possesses infinitely many separatrices possibly constitutes the sole obstruction for the topological invariance of complete integrability and a characterization of foliations admitting this type of invariant sur…
We introduce a sl_2-invariant family of nonlinear vector fields with a non-semisimple triple zero singularity. In this paper we are concerned with characterization and normal form classification of these vector fields. We show that the family constitutes a Lie algebra structure and each vector field from this family is solenoidal, completely integrable and rotational. All such vector fields share a common quadratic invariant. We provide a Poisson structure for the Lie algebra from which the second invariant for each vector field can be readily derived. We show that each vector field from this …
The aim of this paper is to introduce a class of Hamiltonian autonomous systems in dimension 4 which are completely integrable and their dynamics is described in all details. They have an equilibrium point which is stable for some rare elements of the class, and unstable in most cases. Anyhow, it is linearly stable (all orbits of the linearized system are bounded) and no motion is asymptotic in the past, namely no non-constant solution has the equilibrium as limit point as time goes to minus infinity. In the unstable cases, there is a sequence of initial data which converges to the equilibrium…
Given any symplectomorphism on $D^{2n} (n\geq 1)$ which is $C^{\infty}$ close to the identity, and any completely integrable Hamiltonian system $Φ^t_H$ in the proper dimension, we construct a $C^{\infty}$ perturbation of $H$ such that the resulting Hamiltonian flow contains a "local Poincaré section" that "realizes" the symplectomorphism. As a (motivating) application, we show that there are arbitrarily small perturbations of any completely integrable Hamiltonian system which are entropy non-expansive (and, in particular, exhibit hyperbolic behavior on a set of positive measure).
By studying completely integrable torus actions on contact manifolds we prove a conjecture of Toth and Zelditch that toric integrable geodesic flows on tori must have flat metrics.
The main purpose of this paper is to give a topological and symplectic classification of completely integrable Hamiltonian systems in terms of characteristic classes and other local and global invariants.
This paper studies smooth obstructions to integrability and proves two main results. First, it is shown that if a smooth topological n-torus admits a real-analytically completely integrable convex hamiltonian on its cotangent bundle, then the torus is diffeomorphic to the standard n-torus. This is the first known result where the smooth structure of a manifold obstructs complete integrability. Second, it is proven that each one of the Witten-Kreck-Stolz 7-manifolds admit a real-analytically completely integrable geodesic flow on its cotangent bundle. This gives examples of topological manifold…

Recutting is an operation on planar polygons defined by cutting a polygon along a diagonal to remove a triangle, and then reattaching the triangle along the same diagonal but with opposite orientation. Recuttings along different diagonals generate an action of the affine symmetric group on the space of polygons. We show that this action is given by cluster transformations and is completely integrable. The integrability proof is based on interpretation of recutting as refactorization of quaternionic polynomials.
