By studying completely integrable torus actions on contact manifolds we prove a conjecture of Toth and Zelditch that toric integrable geodesic flows on tori must have flat metrics.
We present a geometric interpretation of integrability of geodesic flow by quadratic integrals in terms of the web theory and construct integrable billiards on surfaces admitting such integrals.
The goal of the paper is to develop a systematic approach to the study of (perhaps degenerate) singularities of integrable systems and their structural stability. As the main tool, we use "hidden" system-preserving torus actions near singular orbits. We give sufficient conditions for the existence of such actions and show that they are persistent under integrable perturbations. We find toric symmetries for several infinite series of singularities and prove, as an application, structural stability of Kalashnikov's parabolic orbits with resonances in the real-analytic case. We also classify all …
In this work, magnetic geodesics over the space of Kähler potentials are studied through a variational method for a generalized Landau-Hall functional. The magnetic geodesic equation is calculated in this setting and its relation to a perturbed complex Monge-Ampère equation is given. Lastly, the magnetic geodesic equation is considered over the special case of toric Kähler potentials over toric Kähler manifolds.
A Liouville classification of a natural Hamiltonian system on the projective plane with a rotation metric and a linear integral is obtained. All Fomenko--Zieschang invariants (i.e., labeled molecules) of the system are calculated.
In this paper we construct a new class of surfaces whose geodesic flow is integrable (in the sense of Liouville). We do so by generalizing the notion of tubes about curves to 3-dimensional manifolds, and using Jacobi fields we derive conditions under which the metric of the generalized tubular sub-manifold admits an ignorable coordinate. Some examples are given, demonstrating that these special surfaces can be quite elaborate and varied.
This work is devoted to a systematic study of symplectic convexity for integrable Hamiltonian systems with elliptic and focus-focus singularities. A distinctive feature of these systems is that their base spaces are still smooth manifolds (with boundary and corners), similarly to the toric case, but their associated integral affine structures are singular, with non-trivial monodromy, due to focus singularities. We obtain a series of convexity results, both positive and negative, for such singular integral affine base spaces. In particular, near a focus singular point, they are locally convex a…
Given two c-projectively equivalent metrics on a Kähler manifold we show that the canoncially constructed, Poisson-commuting integrals of motion of the geodesic flow, linear and quadratic in momenta, also commute as quantum operators. The methods employed here also provide a proof of a similar statement in the case of projective equivalence. We also investigate the addition of potentials, i.e. the generalization to natural Hamiltonian systems. We show that the commuting operators lead to separation of variables for Schrödinger's equation.
We study the magnetic geodesic flows on 2-surfaces having an additional first integral which is independent of the Hamiltonian at a fixed energy level. The following two cases are considered: when there exists a quadratic in momenta integral, and also the case of a rational in momenta integral with a linear numerator and denominator. In both cases certain semi-Hamiltonian systems of PDEs appear. In this paper we construct exact solutions (generally speaking, local ones) to these systems: in the first case via the generalized hodograph method, in the second case via the Legendre transformation …
In this work we study the geodesic flow on nilmanifolds associated to graphs. We are interested in the construction of first integrals to show complete integrability on some compact quotients. Also examples of integrable geodesic flows and of non-integrable ones are shown.
We present an algebraic method to study four-dimensional toric varieties by lifting matrix equations from the special linear group ${\rm SL}_2({\mathbb Z})$ to its preimage in the universal cover of ${\rm SL}_2({\mathbb R})$. With this method we recover the classification of two-dimensional toric fans, and obtain a description of their semitoric analogue. As an application to symplectic geometry of Hamiltonian systems, we give a concise proof of the connectivity of the moduli space of toric integrable systems in dimension four, recovering a known result, and extend it to the case of semitoric …
Projective connections arise from equivalence classes of affine connections under the reparametrization of geodesics. They may also be viewed as quotient systems of the classical geodesic equation. After studying the link between integrals of the (classical) geodesic flow and its associated projective connection, we turn our attention to 2-dimensional metrics that admit one projective vector field, i.e. whose local flow sends unparametrized geodesics into unparametrized geodesics. We review and discuss the classification of these metrics, introducing special coordinates on the linear space of …
We study invariant Nijenhuis $(1,1)$-tensors on a homogeneous space $G/K$ of a reductive Lie group $G$ from the point of view of integrability of a Hamiltonian system of differential equations with the $G$-invariant Hamiltonian function on the cotangent bundle $T^*(G/K)$. Such a tensor induces an invariant Poisson tensor $Π_1$ on $T^*(G/K)$, which is Poisson compatible with the canonical Poisson tensor $Π_{T^*(G/K)}$. This Poisson pair can be reduced to the space of $G$-invariant functions on $T^*(G/K)$ and produces a family of Poisson commuting $G$-invariant functions. We give, in Lie algebra…

Convolutions are fundamental elements in deep learning architectures. Here, we present a theoretical framework for combining extrinsic and intrinsic approaches to manifold convolution through isometric embeddings into tori. In this way, we define a convolution operator for a manifold of arbitrary topology and dimension. We also explain geometric and topological conditions that make some local definitions of convolutions which rely on translating filters along geodesic paths on a manifold, computationally intractable. A result of Alan Turing from 1938 underscores the need for such a toric isome…
