In this paper we show that the regulator defined by Goncharov from higher algebraic Chow groups to Deligne-Beilinson cohomology agrees with Beilinson's regulator. We give a direct comparison of Goncharov's regulator to the construction given by Burgos and Feliu. As a consequence, we show that the higher arithmetic Chow groups defined by Goncharov agree, for all projective arithmetic varieties over an arithmetic field, with the ones defined by Burgos and Feliu.
This is a supplement to the paper "Goncharov's Relations in Bloch's higher Chow Group CH^3(F,5)" submitted as math.AG/0105084. We check the admissiblility of all the cycles appearing in the main article.
Using Totaro-Bloch-Kriz's linear fractional cycles Gangl and Muller-Stach recently prove the 5-term relations for the dilogarithm in Bloch's higher Chow group CH^2(F,3) and the Kummer-Spence relations in some group G(F) over an arbitrary field F where G(F) is isomorphic to CH^3(F,5) up to torsions under the Beilinson-Soule vanishing conjecture that CH^2(F,n)=0 for n>3. In this paper we show that Goncharov's 22-term relations for the trilogarithm also hold in G(F).
We construct a map between Bloch's higher Chow groups and Deligne homology for smooth, complex quasiprojective varieties on the level of complexes. For complex projective varieties this results in a formula which generalizes at the same time the classical Griffiths Abel-Jacobi map and the Borel/Beilinson/Goncharov regulator type maps.
We give a new construction of higher arithmetic Chow groups for quasi-projective arithmetic varieties over a field. Our definition agrees with the higher arithmetic Chow groups defined by Goncharov for projective arithmetic varieties over a field. These groups are the analogue, in the Arakelov context, of the higher algebraic Chow groups defined by Bloch. The degree zero group agrees with the arithmetic Chow groups of Burgos. Our new construction is shown to be a contravariant functor and is endowed with a product structure, which is commutative and associative.
Building on Kerr, Lewis and Mueller-Stach's work on the rational regulator, we prove the existence of an integral regulator on higher Chow complexes and give an explicit expression. This puts firm ground under some earlier results and speculations on the torsion in higher cycle groups by K-L-M, Petras, and Kerr-Yang.
We show how to use equidimensional algebraic correspondences between complex algebraic varieties to construct pull-backs and transforms of certain classes of geometric currents. Using this construction we produce explicit formulas at the level of complexes for a regulator map from the Higher Chow groups of smooth complex quasi-projective algebraic varieties to Deligne-Beilinson cohomology with integral coefficients. A distinct aspect of our approach is the use of Suslin's complex of equidimensional cycles over $ Δ^n $ to compute Bloch's higher Chow groups. We calculate explicit examples involv…
I construct regulator indecomposable higher Chow cycles in elliptic surfaces satisfying certain conditions. As an application I give an alternative proof of a theorem of Gordon and Lewis, which asserts that there is a real regulator indecomposable cycles in a product of general elliptic curves.
As an attempt to understand motives over $k[x]/(x^m)$, we define the cubical additive higher Chow groups with modulus for all dimensions extending the works of S. Bloch, H. Esnault and K. Rülling on 0-dimensional cycles. We give an explicit construction of regulator maps on the groups of 1-cycles with an aid of the residue theory of A. Parshin and V. Lomadze.
Let X be a separated scheme of finite type over a field k and D a non-reduced effective Cartier divisor on it. We attach to the pair (X, D) a cycle complex with modulus, whose homotopy groups - called higher Chow groups with modulus - generalize additive higher Chow groups of Bloch-Esnault, Rülling, Park and Krishna-Levine, and that sheafified on $X_{Zar}$ gives a candidate definition for a relative motivic complex of the pair, that we compute in weight 1. When X is smooth over k and D is such that $D_{red}$ is a normal crossing divisor, we construct a fundamental class in the cohomology of re…
We construct some natural cycles with trivial regulator in the higher Chow groups of Jacobians. For hyperelliptic curves we use a criterion due to J. Lewis to prove that the cycles we construct are indecomposable, and then use a specialization argument to prove indecomposability for more general curves. Please note that math.AG/9909062 has become an obsolete version of some of the results in the present paper.
We explicitly describe cycle-class maps c_H from motivic cohomology to absolute Hodge cohomology, for smooth quasi-projective and (some) proper singular varieties, and compute special cases of the latter. For smooth projective varieties, we also study Hodge-theoretically defined "higher Abel-Jacobi maps" on the kernel of c_H; this leads to new results on nontrivial indecomposable higher Chow cycles in the regulator kernel.
We construct an explicit regulator map from the weigh n Bloch Higher Chow group complexto the weight n Deligne complex of a regular complex projective algebraic variety X. We define the Arakelovweight n motivic complex as the cone of this map shifted by one. Its last cohomology group is (a version of) the Arakelov Chow group defined by H. Gillet. and C.Soule. We relate the Grassmannian n-logarithms (defined as in [G5]) to geometry of the symmetric space for GL_n(C). For n=2 we recover Lobachevsky's formula for the volume of an ideal geodesic tetrahedron via the dilogarithm. Using the relations…
We study special values of zeta functions of singular varieties over finite fields. We give a new formula of special values by constructing a morphism of homology theories, which we call regulator, from higher Chow group to weight homology. Our regulator is defined by using the notion of weight complex for varieties over a perfect field, which was introduced by Gillet and Soule. The main idea of the proof of our formula of special values is to use weight spectral sequence of homology theories, whose E1 terms are homology groups for smooth projective schemes. Also, to calculate special values, …
In this paper we study the group K_{2n}^{(n+1)}(F) where F is the function field of a complete, smooth, geometrically irreducible curve C over a number field, assuming the Beilinson--Soulé conjecture on weights. In particular, we compute the Beilinson regulator on a subgroup of K_{2n}^{(n+1)}(F), using the complexes constructed in previous work by the author. We study the boundary map in the localization sequence for n = 3 (the case n = 2 was done in a previous paper). We combine our results with some results of Goncharov in order to obtain a complete description of the image of the regulator …
We review and simplify A. Beilinson's construction of a basis for the motivic cohomology of a point over a cyclotomic field, then promote the basis elements to higher Chow cycles and evaluate the KLM regulator map on them.
In 1986, Spencer Bloch gave an abstract definition of a (regulator) map from higher Chow groups to Deligne-Beilinson cohomology. This map can be defined on the underlying complexes, and Kerr, Lewis and Müller-Stach gave an explicit description of this map in terms of currents. Using a multiplicative version of the Deligne complex, we give a commutative version of this map.
A main theme of the paper is a conjecture of Bloch-Kato on the image of $p$-adic regulator maps for a proper smooth variety $X$ over an algebraic number field $k$. The conjecture for a regulator map of particular degree and weight is related to finiteness of two arithmetic objects: One is the $p$-primary torsion part of the Chow group in codimension 2 of $X$. Another is an unramified cohomology group of $X$. As an application, for a regular model ${\mathscr X}$ of $X$ over the integer ring of $k$, we show an injectivity result on torsion of a cycle class map from the Chow group in codimension …
We show how to make the additive Chow groups of Bloch-Esnault, Ruelling and Park into a graded module for Bloch's higher Chow groups, in the case of a smooth projective variety over a field. This yields a a projective bundle formula as well as a blow-up formula for the additive Chow groups of a smooth projective variety. In case the base-field admits resolution of singularieties, these properties allow us to apply the technique of Guille'n and Navarro Aznar to define the additive Chow groups "with log poles at infinity" for an arbitrary finite-type k-scheme X. This theory has the usual propert…
A general specialization map is constructed for higher Chow groups and used to prove a "going-up" theorem for algebraic cycles and their regulators. The results are applied to study the degeneration of the modified diagonal cycle of Gross and Schoen, and of the coordinate symbol on a genus-2 curve.
We prove relations between fractional linear cycles in Bloch's integral cubical higher Chow complex in codimension two of number fields, which correspond to functional equations of the dilogarithm. These relations suffice, as we shall demonstrate with a few examples, to write down enough relations in Bloch's integral higher Chow group CH^2(F,3) for certain number fields F to detect torsion cycles. Using the regulator map to Deligne cohomology, one can check the non-triviality of the torsion cycles thus obtained. Using this combination of methods, we obtain explicit higher Chow cycles generatin…
We give a new definition of higher arithmetic Chow groups for smooth projective varieties defined over a number field, which is similar to Gillet and Soulé's definition of arithmetic Chow groups. We also give a compact description of the intersection theory of such groups. A consequence of this theory is the definition of a height pairing between two higher algebraic cycles, of complementary dimensions, whose real regulator class is zero. This description agrees with Beilinson's height pairing for the classical arithmetic Chow groups. We also give examples of the higher arithmetic intersection…
A map from the higher arithmetic $K$-group defined by the author to the higher arithmetic Chow group constructed by Burgos and Feliu is given. It is a higher extension of the arithmetic Chern character established by Gillet and Soulé, and it can also be regarded as an analogue of Beilinson's regulator in Arakelov geometry. It is shown that this map is compatible with the pull-back map and the product structure.
