For a newform for Gamma_0(N) of even weight k, we prove that its attached p-adic L-function is not identically zero on the group Z_p of the p-adic units. If p >3, we prove that the order of vanishing at any p-adic integer is finite.
We define and apply a method to study the non-vanishing of $p$-adic cyclotomic multiple zeta values. We prove the non-vanishing of certain cyclotomic multiple harmonic sums, and, via a formula proved in another paper, which expresses a cyclotomic multiple harmonic sums as an infinite sum of products of $p$-adic cyclotomic multiple zeta values, this implies the non-vanishing of certain $p$-adic cyclotomic multiple zeta values.
We show that the special values at tuples of positive integers of the $p$-adic multiple $L$-function introduced by the first-named author et al. can be expressed in terms of the cyclotomic multiple harmonic values introduced by the second-named author.
$p$-adic cyclotomic multiple zeta values depend on the choice of a number of iterations of the crystalline Frobenius of the pro-unipotent fundamental groupoid of $\mathbb{P}^{1} - \{0,μ_{N},\infty\}$. In this paper we study how the iterated Frobenius depends on the number of iterations, in relation with the computation of $p$-adic cyclotomic multiple zeta values in terms of cyclotomic multiple harmonic sums. This provides new results on that computation and the definition of a new pro-unipotent harmonic action.
When the branch character has root number -1, the corresponding anticyclotomic Katz p-adic L-function identically vanishes. In this case, we study the $μ$-invariant of the cyclotomic derivative of Katz p-adic L-function. As an application, this proves the non-vanishing of the anticyclotomic regulator of a self-dual CM modular form with the root number -1. The result also plays a crucial role in the recent work of Hsieh on the Eisenstein ideal approach to a one-sided divisibility of the CM main conjecture.
Let $X_{0}=\mathbb{P}^{1} - (\{0,\infty\} \cup μ_{N})\text{ }/\text{ }\mathbb{F}_{q}$, with $N \in \mathbb{N}^{\ast}$ and $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ of characteristic $p>0$ and containing a primitive $N$-th root of unity. We establish an explicit theory of the crystalline pro-unipotent fundamental groupoid of $X_{0}$. In part I, we have computed explicitly the Frobenius, and in particular cyclotomic $p$-adic multiple zeta values. In part II, we use part I to understand the algebraic relations of cyclotomic $p$-adic multiple zeta values via explicit formulas ; this is in particular a study of the harmoni…
Let p > 2 be a prime. Let Q(zeta) be the p-cyclotomic field. Let pi be the prime ideal of Q(zeta) lying over p. This article aims to describe some pi-adic congruences characterizing the structure of the p-class group and of the unit group of the field Q(zeta). For the unit group, this article supplements the 1954 and 1956 papers of Denes on this topic. A complete summarizing of the results obtained follows in the Introduction section of the paper (pages 3 to 6). This new version of the article with the same title, submitted with reference math.NT/0407430 25 Jul 2004: - corrects several typing …
This paper contributes to compute 2-adic complexity of two classes of Ding-Helleseth generalized cyclotomic sequences. Results show that 2-adic complexity of these sequences is good enough to resist the attack by the rational approximation algorithm.
The cyclotomic $p$-adic multi-zeta values are the $p$-adic periods of $π_{1}(\mathbb{G}_{m} \setminus μ_{M},\cdot),$ the unipotent fundamental group of the multiplicative group minus the $M$-th roots of unity. In this paper, we compute the cyclotomic $p$-adic multi-zeta values at all depths. This paper generalizes the results in [6] and [7]. Since the main result gives explicit formulas we expect it to be useful in proving non-vanishing and transcendence results for these $p$-adic periods and also, through the use of $p$-adic Hodge theory, in proving non-triviality results for the correspondin…
For primes p greater than 3, we propose a conjecture that relates the values of cup products in the Galois cohomology of the maximal unramified outside p extension of a cyclotomic field on cyclotomic p-units to the values of p-adic L-functions of cuspidal eigenforms that satisfy mod p congruences with Eisenstein series. Passing up the cyclotomic and Hida towers, we construct an isomorphism of certain spaces that allows us to compare the value of a reciprocity map on a particular norm compatible system of p-units to what is essentially the two-variable p-adic L-function of Mazur and Kitagawa.
Laurent Berger attached a p-adic differential equation N_rig(M) with a Frobenius structure to an arbitrary de Rham (phi, Gamma)-module over a Robba ring. In this article, we compare the local epsilon conjecture for the cyclotomic deformation of M with that of N_rig(M). We first define an isomorphism between the fundamental lines of their cyclotomic deformations using the second author's results on the big exponential map. As a main result of the article, we show that this isomorphism enables us to reduce the local epsilon conjecture for the cyclotomic deformation of M to that of N_rig(M).
In this paper we compute the values of the p-adic multiple polylogarithms of depth two at roots of unity. Our method is to solve the fundamental differential equation satisfied by the crystalline frobenius morphism using rigid analytic methods. The main result could be thought of as a computation in the p-adic theory of higher cyclotomy. We expect the result to be useful in proving non-vanishing results since it gives quite explicit formulas.
We give a new proof of Howard's $Λ$-adic Gross-Zagier formula, which we extend to the context of indefinite Shimura curves over $\mathbf{Q}$ attached to nonsplit quaternion algebras. This formula relates the cyclotomic derivative of a two-variable $p$-adic $L$-function restricted to the anticyclotomic line to the cyclotomic $p$-adic heights of Heegner points over the anticyclotomic tower, and our proof, rather than inspired by the original approaches of Gross-Zagier and Perrin-Riou, is via Iwasawa theory, based on the connection between Heegner points, Beilinson-Flach elements, and their expli…
Let p be an odd prime. Let F_p^* be the no-null part of the finite field of p elements. Let K = Q(zeta) be the p-cyclotomic field and let O_K be the ring of integers of K. Let pi be the prime ideal of K lying over p. An integer B \in O_K is said singular if B^{1/p} not \in K and if B O_K = b^p where b is an ideal of O_K. An integer B \in O_K is said semi-primary if B = beta mod pi^2 where the natural beta is coprime with p. Let sigma be a Q-isomorphism of the field K generating the Galois group Gal(K/Q). When p is irregular, there exists at least one subgroup Gamma of order p of the class grou…
We generalize the definition of overconvergent $p$-adic multiple polylogarithms and of $p$-adic cyclotomic multiple zeta values and we prove a bound on their norm. A byproduct of the proof is a characterization of these objects in terms of certain regularized $p$-adic iterated integrals. The generalization of the definition consists in replacing the underlying Frobenius structure by its iterations. The bound on the norms of overconvergent $p$-adic multiple polylogarithms that we obtain is a prerequisite for our subsequent papers on $p$-adic cyclotomic multiple zeta values.
We use a result of Thaine to give an alternative proof of the fact that, for a prime p>3 congruent to 3 modulo 4, the component e_{(p+1)/2} of the p-Sylow subgroup of the ideal class group of \mathbb Q(ζ_{p}) is trivial.
We use $\ell$-adic class field theory to take a new view on cyclotomic norms and Leopoldt or Gross generalized conjectures. By the way we recall and complete some classical results. We illustrate the logarithmic approach by various numerical examples and counter-examples obtained with PARI.
In this note, we investigate the p-adic behavior of Weil numbers in the cyclotomic $\mathbb Z\_p$-extension of $\mathbb Q(ζ\_p).$ We determlne the characteristic ideal of the quotient of semi-local units by Weil numbers in terms of the characteristic ideals of some classical modules that appear in Iwasawa Theory.
We unconditionally construct cyclotomic p-adic L-functions for Rankin-Selberg convolutions for GL(n+1) x GL(n) over arbitrary number fields, and show that they satisfy an expected functional equation.
In this paper, we study the deformations of Kolyvagin systems that are known to exist in a wide variety of cases, by the work of B. Howard, B. Mazur, and K. Rubin for the residual Galois representations, along the cyclotomic Iwasawa algebra. We prove, under certain technical hypotheses, that a cyclotomic deformation of a Kolyvagin system exists. We also briefly discuss how our techniques could be extended to prove that one could deform Kolyvagin systems for other deformations as well. We discuss several applications of this result, particularly relation of these $Λ$-adic Kolyvagin systems to p…
The primary goal of this paper is to investigate the geometry of the $p$-adic eigencurve at a point $f$ corresponding to a weight one cuspidal theta series irregular at the prime number $p$. We show that $f$ belongs to exactly three or four irreducible components and study their intersection multiplicities. In particular, we show that the congruence ideal of a CM component has a simple zero at $f$ if and only if a certain anti-cyclotomic $\mathscr{L}$-invariant $\mathscr{L}_-(φ)$ does not vanish. Further, using Roy's Strong Six Exponential Theorem we show that at least one amongst $\mathscr{L}…
In this paper we give a bound for the Iwasawa lambda invariant of an abelian number field attached to the cyclotomic Z_p-extension of that field. We also give some properties of Iwaswa power series attached to p-adic L-functions.
The construction of the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence for $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbf{Q}_p)$ uses in an essential way Fontaine's theory of cyclotomic $(φ,Γ)$-modules. Here \emph{cyclotomic} means that $Γ= \mathrm{Gal}(\mathbf{Q}_p(μ_{p^\infty})/\mathbf{Q}_p)$ is the Galois group of the cyclotomic extension of $\mathbf{Q}_p$. In order to generalize the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence to $\mathrm{GL}_2(L)$, where $L$ is a finite extension of $\mathbf{Q}_p$, it seems necessary to have at our disposal a theory of Lubin-Tate $(φ,Γ)$-modules. Such a generalization has been carried out t…
In this note we propose a new construction of cyclotomic p-adic L-functions attached to classical modular cuspidal eigenforms. This allows us to cover most known cases to date and provides a method which is amenable to generalizations to automorphic forms on arbitrary groups. In the classical setting of GL2 over Q this allows us to construct the p-adic L-function in the so far uncovered extremal case which arises under the unlikely hypothesis that p-th Hecke polynomial has a double root. Although Tate's conjecture implies that this case should never take place for GL2/Q, the obvious generaliza…
We prove that all elliptic curves defined over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of a real quadratic field are modular under the assumption that the algebraic part of the central value of a twisted $L$-function is a $p$-adic unit. Our result is a generalization of a result of X. Zhang, which is a real quadratic analogue of a result of Thorne.
Let $E$ be a field of characteristic $p$. The group $\mathbf{Z}_p^\times$ acts on $E((X))$ by $a \cdot f(X) = f((1+X)^a-1)$. This action extends to the $X$-adic completion $\tilde{\mathbf{E}}$ of $\cup_{n \geq 0} E((X^{1/p^n}))$. We show how to recover $E((X))$ from the valued $E$-vector space $\tilde{\mathbf{E}}$ endowed with its action of $\mathbf{Z}_p^\times$. To do this, we introduce the notion of super-Hölder vector in certain $E$-linear representations of $\mathbf{Z}_p$. This is a characteristic $p$ analogue of the notion of locally analytic vector in $p$-adic Banach representations of $…
Let $p$ be an odd prime number. In this paper, we study the growth of the Sylow $p$-subgroups of the even $K$-groups of rings of integers in a $p$-adic Lie extension. Our results generalize previous results of Coates and Ji-Qin, where they considered the situation of a cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension. Our method of proof differs from these previous work. Their proof relies on an explicit description of certain Galois group via Kummer theory afforded by the context of a cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension, whereas our approach is via considering the Iwasawa cohomology groups with coefficien…
In this paper, we give a simultaneous vanishing principle for the $v$-adic Carlitz multiple polylogarithms (abbreviated as CMPLs) at algebraic points, where $v$ is a finite place of the rational function field over a finite field. This principle establishes the fact that the $v$-adic vanishing of CMPLs at algebraic points is equivalent to its $\infty$-adic counterpart being Eulerian. This reveals a nontrivial connection between the $v$-adic and $\infty$-adic worlds in positive characteristic.
We give a new proof of the fact that the growth (with respect to $n$) of the $p$-adic valuation of $h_{n,2}^{-}$ is linear, where $h_{n,2}^{-}$ denotes the minus part of the $(S,\{2\})$-refined class number of the cyclotomic field $\mathbb{Q}(μ_{p^{n+1}})$, as defined by Hu and Kim in [J. of Number Theory 158 (2016), 73-89]. As a consequence of our proof, we obtain an explicit relation between the $p$-adic valuation of $h_{n,2}^{-}$ and the $p$-adic valuation of $h_{n}^{-}$, the minus part of the class number $h_n$ of the cyclotomic field $\mathbb{Q}(μ_{p^{n+1}})$.
We consider $\ell$-adic trace functions over finite fields taking values in cyclotomic integers, such as characters and exponential sums. Through ideas of Deligne and Katz, we explore probabilistic properties of the reductions modulo a prime ideal, exploiting especially the determination of their integral monodromy groups. In particular, this gives a generalization of a result of Lamzouri-Zaharescu on the distribution of short sums of the Legendre symbol reduced modulo an integer to all multiplicative characters and to hyper-Kloosterman sums.
The point of this paper is to give an explicit p-adic analytic construction of two Iwasawa functions L_p^\sharp(f,T) and L_p^\flat(f,T) for a weight two modular form \sum a_n q^n and a good prime p. This generalizes work of Pollack who worked in the supersingular case and also assumed a_p=0. The Iwasawa functions work in tandem to shed some light on the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjectures in the cyclotomic direction: We bound the rank and estimate the growth of the Tate-Shafarevich group in the cyclotomic direction analytically, encountering a new phenomenon for small slopes.
Let $B$ be a simple CM abelian variety over a CM field $E$, $p$ a rational prime. Suppose that $B$ has potentially ordinary reduction above $p$ and is self-dual with root number $-1$. Under some further conditions, we prove the generic non-vanishing of (cyclotomic) $p$-adic heights on $B$ along anticyclotomic $\Z_{p}$-extensions of $E$. This provides evidence towards Schneider's conjecture on the non-vanishing of $p$-adic heights. For CM elliptic curves over $\Q$, the result was previously known as a consequence of work of Bertrand, Gross--Zagier and Rohrlich in the 1980s. Our proof is based o…
Darmon's conjecture on a relation between cyclotomic units over real quadratic fields and certain algebraic regulators was recently solved by Mazur and Rubin by using their theory of Kolyvagin systems. In this paper, we formulate a "non-explicit" version of Darmon's conjecture for Euler systems defined for general $p$-adic representations, and prove it. In the process of the proof, we introduce a notion of "algebraic Kolyvagin systems", and develop their properties.
We prove an Iwasawa Main Conjecture for the class group of the $\mathfrak{p}$-cyclotomic extension $\mathcal{F}$ of the function field $\mathbb{F}_q(θ)$ ($\mathfrak{p}$ is a prime of $\mathbb{F}_q[θ]\,$), showing that its Fitting ideal is generated by a Stickelberger element. We use this and a link between the Stickelberger element and a $\mathfrak{p}$-adic $L$-function to prove a close analog of the Ferrero-Washington theorem for $\mathcal{F}$ and to provide informations on the $\mathfrak{p}$-adic valuations of the Bernoulli-Goss numbers $β(j)$ (i.e., on the values of the Goss $ζ$-function at…
Following the prequel work \cite{VO3}, we prove a generalization of "Mazur's conjecture" for $L$-functions of elliptic curves in abelian extensions of imaginary quadratic fields, including the assertion that the Mordell-Weil rank of an elliptic curve in the ${\bf{Z}}_p^2$-extension is finitely generated modulo Heegner points. The novelty of the approach here is to use the existence of a suitable $p$-adic $L$-function to reduce the problem to a minimal nonvanishing criterion, which should be applicable to a broader class of problems than considered here.
Let $K$ be a $p$-adic field and $E$ an elliptic curve over $K$ with potential good reduction. For some large Galois extensions $L$ of $K$ containing all $p$-power roots of unity, we show the vanishing of certain Galois cohomology groups of $L$ with values in the $p$-adic representation associated with $E$. This generalizes some results of Coates, Sujatha and Wintenberger.
In this article, we study $p$-adic torus periods for certain $p$-adic valued functions on Shimura curves coming from classical origin. We prove a $p$-adic Waldspurger formula for these periods, generalizing the recent work of Bertolini, Darmon, and Prasanna. In pursuing such a formula, we construct a new anti-cyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-function of Rankin-Selberg type. At a character of positive weight, the $p$-adic $L$-function interpolates the central critical value of the complex Rankin-Selberg $L$-function. Its value at a Dirichlet character, which is outside the range of interpolation, essent…

We prove new congruences between special values of Rankin-Selberg $L$-functions for $\mathrm{GL}(n+1)\times\mathrm{GL}(n)$ over arbitrary number fields. This allows us to control the behavior of $p$-adic $L$-functions under Tate twists and to prove the existence of non-abelian $p$-adic $L$-functions for Hida families on $\mathrm{GL}(n+1)\times\mathrm{GL}(n)$. As an application, we prove strong non-vanishing results for central $L$-values: We give sufficient local conditions for twisted central Rankin-Selberg $L$-values to be generically non-zero.
In this paper, we will show that the sheaf of p-adic vanishing cycles of a log smooth family over a DVR of mixed characteristic is generated by Milnor symboles. A key ingredient is a computation (due to K. Kato) on the graded quotients of a multi-indexed filtration on the sheaf concerned, which has been used in several papers of the first author.
The aim of this paper is to investigate the trivial zeros of the Katz $p$-adic $L$-functions by the CM congruence. We prove the existence of trivial zeros of the Katz $p$-adic $L$-functions for general CM fields and establish a first derivative formula of the cyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-functions at trivial zeros under some Leopoldt hypothesis. The crucial ingredients in our proof are a special case of $p$-adic Kronecker limit formula for CM fields and a leading term formula of anticyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-functions at trivial zeros via the explicit congruences between CM and non-CM Hida families o…
Let $χ$ be a Hecke character of finite order of a totally real number field $F$. By using Hill's Shintani cocyle we provide a cohomological construction of the $p$-adic $L$-series $L_p(χ, s)$ associated to $χ$. This is used to show that $L_p(χ, s)$ has a trivial zero at $s=0$ of order at least equal to the number of places of $F$ above $p$ where the local component of $χ$ is trivial.
We prove the transfer congruence between $p$-adic Hecke $L$-functions for CM fields over cyclotomic extensions, which is a non-abelian generalization of the Kummer's congruence. The ingredients of the proof include the comparison between Hilbert modular varieties, the $q$-expansion principle, and some modification of Hsieh's Whittaker model for Katz' Eisenstein series. As a first application, we prove explicit congruence between special values of Hasse-Weil $L$-function of a CM elliptic curve twisted by Artin representations. As a second application, we prove the existence of a non-commutative…
Let E/Q be an elliptic curve with good supersingular reduction at p with a_p(E)=0. We give a conjecture on the existence of analytic plus and minus p-adic L-functions of E over the Zp-cyclotomic extension of a finite Galois extension of Q where p is unramified. Under some technical conditions, we adopt the method of Bouganis and Venjakob for p-ordinary CM elliptic curves to construct such functions for a particular non-abelian extension.
I prove the surjectivity of the $p$-adic regulator from Quillen's $K_2$ of Tate curve to the $p$-adic etale cohomology group when the base field is contained in a cyclotomic extension of $Q_p$. This implies the finiteness of torsion part of $K_1$ of Tate curves thanks to Suslin's exact sequence.
Let $n$ be an even positive integer with at most three distinct prime factors and let $\ze_n$ be a primitive $n$-th root of unity. In this study, we made an attempt to find the lowest-degree $0,1$-polynomial $f(x) \in \Q[x]$ having at least three terms such that $f(\ze_n)$ is a minimal vanishing sum of the $n$-th roots of unity.
Our goal in this article is to prove a form of $p$-adic Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer formula for the second derivative of the $p$-adic $L$-function associated to a newform $f$ which is non-crystalline semistable at $p$ at its central critical point, by expressing this quantity in terms of a $p$-adic (cyclotomic) regulator defined on an extended trianguline Selmer group. We also prove a two-variable version of this result for height pairings we construct by considering infinitesimal deformations afforded by a Coleman family passing through $f$. This, among other things, leads us to a proof of an a…
We prove the first cases of a conjecture by Darmon--Rotger on the non-vanishing of generalized Kato classes attached to elliptic curves $E$ over $\mathbf{Q}$ of rank $2$. Our method also shows that the non-vanishing of generalized Kato classes implies that the $p$-adic Selmer group of $E$ is $2$-dimensional. The main novelty in the proof is a formula for the leading term at the trivial character of an anticyclotomic $p$-adic $L$-function attached to $E$ in terms of the derived $p$-adic height of generalized Kato classes and an enhanced $p$-adic regulator.
Given a smooth formal scheme over the ring of integers of a mixed-characteristic perfectoid field, we study its $p$-adic vanishing cycles via de Rham--Witt and $q$-de Rham complexes.
Let $E/\mathbb{Q}$ be an elliptic curve and $p$ an odd prime where $E$ has good supersingular reduction. Let $F_1$ denote the characteristic power series of the Pontryagin dual of the fine Selmer group of $E$ over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ and let $F_2$ denote the greatest common divisor of Pollack's plus and minus $p$-adic $L$-functions or Sprung's sharp and flat $p$-adic $L$-functions attached to $E$, depending on whether $a_p(E)=0$ or $a_p(E)\ne0$. We study a link between the divisors of $F_1$ and $F_2$ in the Iwasawa algebra. This gives new insights into probl…
We construct the $Λ$-adic de Rham analogue of Hida's ordinary $Λ$-adic étale cohomology and of Ohta's $Λ$-adic Hodge cohomology, and by exploiting the geometry of integral models of modular curves over the cyclotomic extension of $\mathbf{Q}_p$, we give a purely geometric proof of the expected finiteness, control, and $Λ$-adic duality theorems. Following Ohta, we then prove that our $Λ$-adic module of differentials is canonically isomorphic to the space of ordinary $Λ$-adic cuspforms. In the sequel to this paper, we construct the crystalline counterpart to Hida's ordinary $Λ$-adic étale cohomo…
Let $K$ be a finite extension of $\mathbf{Q}_p$ and let $G_K = \mathrm{Gal}(\bar{\mathbf{Q}}_p/K)$. There is a very useful classification of $p$-adic representations of $G_K$ in terms of cyclotomic $(φ,Γ)$-modules (cyclotomic means that $Γ={\rm Gal}(K_\infty/K)$ where $K_\infty$ is the cyclotomic extension of $K$). One particularly convenient feature of the cyclotomic theory is the fact that any $(φ,Γ)$-module is overconvergent. Questions pertaining to the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence lead us to ask for a generalization of the theory of $(φ,Γ)$-modules, with the cyclotomic extension…
