We give a version of geometric motivic integration that specializes to p-adic integration via point counting. This has been done before for stable sets; we extend this to more general sets. The main problem in doing this is that it requires to take limits, hence the measure will have to take values in a completion of the (localized) Grothendieck ring of varieties. The standard choice is to complete with respect to the dimension filtration; however, since the point counting homomorphism is not continuous with respect to this topology we have to use a stronger one. The first part of the paper is devoted to defining this topology; in the second part we will then see that many of the standard constructions of geometric motivic integration work also in this setting.
We study the motivic and $\ell$-adic realizations of the dg category of singularities of the zero locus of a global section of a line bundle over a regular scheme. We will then use the formula obtained in this way together with a theorem due to D.~Orlov and J.~Burke - M.~Walker to give a formula for the $\ell$-adic realization of the dg category of singularities of the special fiber of a scheme over a regular local ring of dimension $n$.
In this thesis we compute motivic classes of hypertoric varieties, Nakajima quiver varieties and open de Rham spaces in a certain localization of the Grothendieck ring of varieties. Furthermore we study the $p$-adic pushforward of the Haar measure under a hypertoric moment map $μ$. This leads to an explicit formula for the Igusa zeta function $I_μ(s)$ of $μ$, and in particular to a small set of candidate poles for $I_μ(s)$. We also study various properties of the residue at the largest pole of $I_μ(s)$. Finally, if $μ$ is constructed out of a quiver $Γ$ we give a conjectural description of thi…
We prove a mixed characteristic analog of the Beilinson-Lichtenbaum Conjecture for p-adic motivic cohomology. It gives a description, in the stable range, of p-adic motivic cohomology (defined using algebraic cycles) in terms of differential forms. This generalizes a result of Geisser from small Tate twists to all twists and uses as a critical new ingredient the comparison theorem between syntomic complexes and p-adic nearby cycles proved recently in Colmez-Niziol.
We construct a notion of p-adic measure on Artin n-stacks which are strongly of finite type over the ring of p-adic integers. We also prove the rationality of of the Poincare series and the Serre series associated with such stacks. Finally, we use motivic integration to show that the rationality of the Serre series is uniform with respect to p.
This survey paper, to appear in he proceedings of the Miami Winter School ``Geometric Methods in Algebra and Number Theory'', is concerned with extending classical results à la Ax-Kochen-Er{š}ov to $p$-adic integrals in a motivic setting, using the framework of constructible motivic functions we introduced in math.AG/0410203. We conclude the paper by discussing briefly the relevance of our results to the study of orbital integrals and the Fundamental Lemma.
We provide a complete analysis of the motivic Adams spectral sequences converging to the bigraded coefficients of the 2-complete algebraic Johnson-Wilson spectra BPGL<n> over p-adic fields. These spectra interpolate between integral motivic cohomology (n=0), a connective version of algebraic K-theory (n=1), and the algebraic Brown-Peterson spectrum. We deduce that, over p-adic fields, the 2-complete BPGL<n> split over 2-complete BPGL<0>, implying that the slice spectral sequence for BPGL collapses. This is the first in a series of two papers investigating motivic invariants of p-adic fields, a…
We introduce motivic analogues of p-adic exponential integrals. We prove a basic multiplicativity property from which we deduce a motivic analogue of the Thom-Sebastiani Theorem. In particular, we obtain a new proof of the Thom-Sebastiani Theorem for the Hodge spectrum of (non isolated) singularities of functions.
The specializations of the motivic elliptic polylog are called motivic Eisenstein classes. For applications to special values of L-Functions, it is important to compute the realizations of these classes. In this paper, we prove that the syntomic realization of the motivic Eisenstein classes, restricted to the ordinary locus of the modular curve, may be expressed using p-adic Eisenstein-Kronecker series. These p-adic modular forms are defined using the two-variable p-adic measure with values in p-adic modular forms constructed by Katz.
We prove that if two semi-algebraic subsets of $\mathbb{Q}_p^n$ have the same $p$-adic measure, then this equality can already be deduced using only some basic integral transformation rules. On the one hand, this can be considered as a positive answer to a $p$-adic analogue of a question asked by Kontsevich-Zagier in the reals (though the question in the reals is much harder). On the other hand, our result can also be considered as stating that over $\mathbb{Q}_p$, universal motivic integration (in the sense of Hrushovski-Kazhdan) is just $p$-adic integration.
We study the scheme of formal arcs on a singular algebraic variety and its images under truncations. We prove a rationality result for the Poincare series of these images which is an analogue of the rationality of the Poincare series associated to p-adic points on a p-adic variety. The main tools which are used are semi-algebraic geometry in spaces of power series and motivic integration (a notion introduced by M. Kontsevich). In particular we develop the theory of motivic integration for semi-algebraic sets of formal arcs on singular algebraic varieties, we prove a change of variable formula …
Inspired by p-adic (and real) principal value integrals, we introduce motivic principal value integrals associated to multi-valued rational differential forms on smooth algebraic varieties. We investigate the natural question whether (for complete varieties) this notion is a birational invariant. The answer seems to be related to the dichotomy of the Minimal Model Program.
We associate canonical virtual motives to definable sets over a field of characteristic zero. We use this construction to show that very general p-adic integrals are canonically interpolated by motivic ones.
We provide a gentle introduction to arc spaces, motivic integration and stringy invariants. We explain the basic concepts and first results, including the p-adic number theoretic pre-history, and we provide concrete examples. The text is a slightly adapted version of the 'extended abstract' of the author's talks at the 12th MSJ-IRI "Singularity Theory and Its Applications" (2003) in Sapporo. At the end we included a list of various recent results.
We prove that the moduli spaces of twisted $\mathrm{SL}_n$ and $\mathrm{PGL}_n$-Higgs bundles on a smooth projective curve have the same (stringy) class in the Grothendieck ring of rational Chow motives. On the level of Hodge numbers this was conjectured by Hausel and Thaddeus, and recently proven by Groechenig, Ziegler and the second author. To adapt their argument, which relies on p-adic integration, we use a version of motivic integration with values in rational Chow motives and the geometry of Néron models to evaluate such integrals on Hitchin fibers.
This is our second scope of the consideration on the corresponding topologization and the corresponding functional analytification. We will focus on the corresponding functorial and motivic constructions in our current consideration. We consider topological motivic derived $I$-adic and derived $(p,I)$-adic cohomologies through derived de Rham complexes of Bhatt, Guo, Illusie, Morrow, Scholze, Frobenius sheaves over Robba rings of Kedlaya-Liu in certain derived $I$-adic and derived $(p,I)$-adic geometric context as what we defined for Bambozzi-Ben-Bassat-Kremnizer $\infty$-prestacks in our prev…
In this paper, we establish a link between the structure theory of the pro-unipotent motivic fundamental group of the projective line minus three points and Diophantine geometry. In particular, we give a p-adic proof of Siegel's theorem.
We survey our recent work on an extension of the theory of motivic integration, called arithmetic motivic integration. We developed this theory to understand how p-adic integrals of a very general type depend on p.
These are notes of a series of talks about motivic integration I gave on the Münster Model Theory Month. Readers are assumed to have some basic knowledge of model theory and of valued fields. The notes are closest to the Cluckers-Loeser style of motivic integration, though mostly they are about doing p-adic integration uniformly in all $\mathbb{Q}_p$.
We prove that stable rationality specializes in regular families whose fibers are integral and have at most ordinary double points as singularities. Our proof is based on motivic specialization techniques and the criterion of Larsen and Lunts for stable rationality in the Grothendieck ring of varieties.
It is well known that the integral identity conjecture is of prime importance in Kontsevich-Soibelman's theory of motivic Donaldson-Thomas invariants for non-commutative Calabi-Yau threfolds. In this article we consider its numerical version and make it a complete demonstration in the case where the potential is a polynomial and the ground field is algebraically closed. The foundamental tool is the Berkovich spaces whose crucial point is how to use the comparison theorem for nearby cycles as well as the Künneth isomorphism for cohomology with compact support.
The concept of wave front set was introduced in 1969-1970 by M. Sato in the hyperfunctions context and by L. Hörmander in the $\mathcal C^{\infty}$ context. Howe used the theory of wave front sets in the study of Lie groups representations. Heifetz defined a notion of wave front set for distributions in the $p$-adic setting and used it to study some representations of $p$-adic Lie groups. In this article, we work in the $k((t))$-setting with $k$ a characteristic zero field. In that setting, balls are no longer compact but working in a definable context provides good substitutes for finiteness …
This article gives an introduction to arithmetic motivic integration in the context of p-adic integrals that arise in representation theory. A special case of the fundamental lemma is interpreted as an identity of Chow motives.
We extend the formalism and results on motivic integration from ["Constructible motivic functions and motivic integration", Invent. Math., Volume 173, (2008) 23-121] to mixed characteristic discretely valued Henselian fields with bounded ramification. We also generalize the equicharacteristic zero case of loc. cit. by giving, in all residue characteristics, an axiomatic approach (instead of only using Denef-Pas languages) and by using richer angular component maps. In this setting we prove a general change of variables formula and a general Fubini Theorem. Our set-up can be specialized to prev…
With representation-theoretic applications in mind, we construct a formalism of reduced motives with integral coefficients. These are motivic sheaves from which the higher motivic cohomology of the base scheme has been removed. We show that reduced stratified Tate motives satisfy favorable properties including weight and t-structures. We also prove that reduced motives on cellular (ind-)schemes unify various approaches to mixed sheaves in representation theory, such as Soergel-Wendt's semisimplified Hodge motives, Achar-Riche's complexes of parity sheaves, as well as Ho-Li's recent category of…
We put forward in this paper a uniform narrative that weaves together several variants of Hrushovski-Kazhdan style integral, and describe how it can facilitate the understanding of the Denef-Loeser motivic Milnor fiber and closely related objects. Our study focuses on the so-called "nonarchimedean Milnor fiber" that was introduced by Hrushovski and Loeser, and our thesis is that it is a richer embodiment of the underlying philosophy of the Milnor construction. The said narrative is first developed in the more natural complex environment, and is then extended to the real one via descent. In the…
We study unramified sections of the fundamental group sequence of smooth projective curves of genus $\geq 2$ over $p$-adic fields together with an integral model. We are particularly interested in the induced specialized sections of the special fibre and how they relate to homotopy rational points over the residue field. Under mild assumptions, such a specialized section induces a unique homotopy rational point of the special fibre that is compatible with the original section of the generic fibre in cohomological settings. We give two applications of such specialized homotopy rational points a…

We give a new proof - not using resolution of singularities - of a formula of Denef and the second author expressing the Lefschetz number of iterates of the monodromy of a function on a smooth complex algebraic variety in terms of the Euler characteristic of a space of truncated arcs. Our proof uses l-adic cohomology of non-archimedean spaces, motivic integration and the Lefschetz fixed point formula for finite order automorphisms. We also consider a generalization due to Nicaise and Sebag and at the end of the paper we discuss connections with the motivic Serre invariant and the motivic Milno…
This is my habilitation thesis. As the tradition wants, I tried to give an introduction of my field of research. I post it on the ArXiv with the hope it can be useful to young researchers looking for a short and friendly text on cohomologies of algebraic varieties, periods, algebraic cycles and motives. I might one day find the energy to expand these notes and maybe translate them in English. In the meantime, please feel free to ask questions. The first sections of this text propose an introduction to the theory, I tried to present points of view and examples which are not always stressed in t…
In this paper, we construct four different theories of integration, two that are for Voevodsky motives, one for mixed $\ell$-adic sheaves, and a fourth theory of integration for rational mixed Hodge structures. We then show that they circumvent some of the complications of classical motivic integration, leading to new arithmetic and geometric results concerning K-equivalent $k$-varieties. For example, in addition to recovering known results regarding K-equivalent smooth projective complex varieties, we show that K-equivalent smooth projective $\mathbb{F}_q$-varieties have isomorphic rational $…
In this dissertation, we discuss mainly the corresponding geometric and representation theoretic aspects of relative $p$-adic Hodge theory and $p$-adic motives. To be more precise, we study the corresponding analytic geometry of the corresponding spaces over and attached to period rings in the relative $p$-adic Hodge theory, including derived topological de Rham complexes and derived topological logarithmic de Rham complexes after Bhatt, Gabber, Guo and Illusie which is in some sense equivalent to the derived prismatic cohomology of Bhatt-Scholze as shown in the work of Li-Liu, $\mathcal{O}\ma…
We construct motivic $\ell$-adic representations of $\GQ$ into exceptional groups of type $E_7,E_8$ and $G_2$ whose image is Zariski dense. This answers a question of Serre. The construction is uniform for these groups and uses the Langlands correspondence for function fields. As an application, we solve new cases of the inverse Galois problem: the finite simple groups $E_{8}(\FF_{\ell})$ are Galois groups over $\QQ$ for large enough primes $\ell$.
In this paper, we construct a refined, relative version of the étale realization functor of motivic spaces, first studied by Isaksen and Schmidt. Their functor goes from the $\infty$-category of motivic spaces over a base scheme $S$ to the $\infty$-category of $p$-profinite spaces, where $p$ is a prime which is invertible in all residue fields of $S$. In the first part of this paper, we refine the target of this functor to an $\infty$-category where $p$-profinite spaces is a further completion. Roughly speaking, this $\infty$-category is generated under cofiltered limits by those spaces whose …
