Berry phase of simple harmonic oscillator is considered in a general representation. It is shown that, Berry phase which depends on the choice of representation can be defined under evolution of the half of period of the classical motions, as well as under evolution of the period. The Berry phases do {\em not} depend on the mass or angular frequency of the oscillator. The driven harmonic oscillator is also considered, and the Berry phase is given in terms of Fourier coefficients of the external force and parameters which determine the representation.
For a time-dependent $τ$-periodic harmonic oscillator of two linearly independent homogeneous solutions of classical equation of motion which are bounded all over the time (stable), it is shown, there is a representation of states cyclic up to multiplicative constants under $τ$-evolution or $2τ$-evolution depending on the model. We propose a scheme for measuring the Berry phase in the vibrational degree of freedom of a trapped ion. Starting from the ion in a vibrational coherent state we show how to reverse the sign of the coherent state amplitude by using a purely geometric phase. This can then be detected through the internal degrees of freedom of the ion. Our method can be applied to preparation of Schrödinger cat states.
We evaluate the Berry phase for a "missing" family of the square integrable wavefunctions for the linear harmonic oscillator, which cannot be derived by the separation of variables (in a natural way). Instead, it is obtained by the action of the maximal kinematical invariance group on the standard solutions. A simple closed formula for the phase (in terms of elementary functions) is found by integration with the help of a computer algebra system.
We apply the Schrödinger factorization to construct the ladder operators for hydrogen atom, Mie-type potential, harmonic oscillator and pseudo-harmonic oscillator in arbitrary dimensions. By generalizing these operators we show that the dynamical algebra for these problems is the $su(1,1)$ Lie algebra.
The unitary operator which transforms a harmonic oscillator system of time-dependent frequency into that of a simple harmonic oscillator of different time-scale is found, with and without an inverse-square potential. Normally, the half-harmonic oscillator is active when $x>0$ and absent when $x<0$. From a canonical quantization perspective, this leads to odd eigenfunctions being present while even eigenfunctions are absent. In that case, only the usual odd eigenfunctions will appear if the wall slides to negative infinity. However, if an affine quantization is used, sliding the wall away shows that all the odd and even eigenfunctions are encountered, exactly like any full-harmonic oscillator. We provide numerical support for this.
We treat the quantum dynamics of a harmonic oscillator as well as its inverted counterpart in the Schrödinger picture. Generally in the most papers of the literature, the inverted harmonic oscillator is formally obtained from the harmonic oscillator by the replacement of ω to iω, this leads to unbounded eigenvectors. Time-dependent supersymmetry allows one to delete quasienergy levels for time-periodic Hamiltonians and to create new ones. We illustrate this by examining an exactly solvable model related to the simple harmonic oscillator with a time-varying frequency. For an interesting nonharmonic example we present the change of the Berry phase due to a supersymmetry transformation.

We give an alternative formulation of the no-cloning theorem that applies to harmonic oscillator coherent states. It says that {\em unknown} single harmonic oscillator coherent states can not be {\em amplified}. Conversely it says that {\em known} harmonic oscillator coherent states can be directly amplified through an universal unitary process. It is also shown that such a formulation is needed for the consistency of {\em information cloning} proposed by us long ago.
It is shown that the eigenvalue problem for the Hamiltonians of the standard form, $H=p^2/(2m)+V(x)$, is equivalent to the classical dynamical equation for certain harmonic oscillators with time-dependent frequency. This is another indication of the central role played by time-dependent harmonic oscillators in quantum mechanics. We discuss the thermodynamic and finite size scaling properties of the geometric phase in the adiabatic Dicke model, describing the super-radiant phase transition for an $N$ qubit register coupled to a slow oscillator mode. We show that, in the thermodynamic limit, a non zero Berry phase is obtained only if a path in parameter space is followed that encircles the critical point. Furthermore, we investigate the precursors of this critical behavior for a system with finite size and obtain the leading order in the 1/N expansion of the Berry phase and its critical exponent.
We consider a quantum space with rotationally invariant noncommutative algebra of coordinates and momenta. The algebra contains tensors of noncommutativity constructed involving additional coordinates and momenta. We analyse the properties of a strongly-damped quantum harmonic oscillator by means of an exact diagonalisation of the full Hamiltonian, including both the oscillator and the reservoir degrees of freedom to which it is coupled. Many of the properties of the oscillator, including its steady-state properties and entanglement with the reservoir can be understood and quantified in terms of a simple probability density, which we may associate with the ground-state frequency spectrum of the oscillator.
The solution of the Feinberg-Horodecki (FH) equation for a time-dependent mass (TDM) harmonic oscillator quantum system is studied. We study the generalized harmonic oscillator which has both the position-dependent mass and the potential depending on the form of mass function in a more general framework. The explicit expressions of the eigenvalue and eigenfunction for such system are given, they have the same forms as those for the usual harmonic oscillator with constant mass. The coherent state and the its properties for the system with PDM are also discussed. We give the corresponding effective potentials for several mass functions, the systems with such potentials are isospectral to the usual harmonic oscillator.

In this paper we study some basic quantum confinement effects through investigation of a deformed harmonic oscillator algebra. We show that spatial confinement effects on a quantum harmonic oscillator can be represented by a deformation function within the framework of nonlinear coherent states theory. We construct the coherent states associated with the spatially confined quantum harmonic oscillator in a one-dimensional infinite well and examine some of their quantum statistical properties, including sub-poissonian statistics and quadrature squeezing.
Two methods to change a quantum harmonic oscillator frequency without transitions in a finite time are described and compared. The first method, a transitionless-tracking algorithm, makes use of a generalized harmonic oscillator and a non-local potential. The second method, based on engineering an invariant of motion, only modifies the harmonic frequency in time, keeping the potential local at all times.

We present an interesting result regarding the implication of truncating the wavepacket of the harmonic oscillator. We show that disregarding the non-significant tails of a function which is the superposition of eigenfunctions of the harmonic oscillator has a remarkable consequence: namely, there exist infinitely many different superpositions giving rise to the same function on the interval. Uniqueness, in the case of a wavepacket, is restored by a postulate of quantum mechanics.

After a brief introduction recalling how, in the limit in which the mass and the electric charge of the electron and the positron tend to zero, Quantum Electrodynamics reduces to a collection of uncoupled quantum supersymmetric harmonic oscillators, the phase operator of the quantum fermionic harmonic oscillator and of the quantum supersymmetric harmonic oscillator are introduced and their properties analyzed. It is then shown that the phase operator of a supersymmetric harmonic oscillator is a Goldstone operator at any strictly positive temperature (finite or infinite).
The local Riemann hypothesis states that the zeros of the Mellin transform of a harmonic-oscillator eigenfunction (on a real or p-adic configuration space) have real part 1/2. For the real case, we show that the imaginary parts of these zeros are the eigenvalues of the Berry-Keating hamiltonian H=(xp+px)/2 projected onto the subspace of oscillator eigenfunctions of lower level. This gives a spectral proof of the local Riemann hypothesis for the reals, in the spirit of the Hilbert-Polya conjecture. The p-adic case is also discussed.

The evolution of a two level system with a slowly varying Hamiltonian, modeled as s spin 1/2 in a slowly varying magnetic field, and interacting with a quantum environment, modeled as a bath of harmonic oscillators is analyzed using a quantum Langevin approach. This allows to easily obtain the dissipation time and the correction to the Berry phase in the case of an adiabatic cyclic evolution.
In the framework of the single-field slow-roll inflation, we derive the Hamiltonian of the linear primordial scalar and tensor perturbations in the form of time-dependent harmonic oscillator Hamiltonians. We find the invariant operators of the resulting Hamiltonians and use their eigenstates to calculate the adiabatic Berry phase for sub-horizon modes in terms of the Lewis-Riesenfeld phase. We conclude by discussing the discrepancy in the results of Pal et. al [Class. Quant. Grav. 30 (2013) 12] for these Berry phases, which is resolved to yield agreement with our results.

We propose a new approach to the quantization of the damped harmonic oscillator in the framework of deformation quantization. The quantization is performed in the Schrödinger picture by a star-product induced by a modified "Poisson bracket". We determine the eigenstates in the damped regime and compute the transition probability between states of the undamped harmonic oscillator after the system was submitted to dissipation.
We report that upon excitation by a single pulse, the classical harmonic oscillator immersed in classical electromagnetic zero-point radiation, as described by random electrodynamics, exhibits a quantized excitation spectrum in agreement to that of the quantum harmonic oscillator. This numerical result is interesting in view of the generally accepted idea that classical theories do not support quantized energy spectra.
