A time-dependent unitary (canonical) transformation is found which maps the Hamiltonian for a harmonic oscillator with time-dependent real mass and real frequency to that of a generalized harmonic oscillator with time-dependent real mass and imaginary frequency. The latter may be reduced to an ordinary harmonic oscillator by means of another unitary (canonical) transformation. A simple analysis of the resulting system leads to the identification of a previously unknown class of exactly solvable time-dependent oscillators. Furthermore, it is shown how one can apply these results to establish a canonical equivalence between some real and imaginary frequency oscillators. In particular it is shown that a harmonic oscillator whose frequency is constant and whose mass grows linearly in time is canonically equivalent with an oscillator whose frequency changes from being real to imaginary and vice versa repeatedly.
Given a quantum gate implementing a $d$-dimensional unitary operation $U_d$, without any specific description but $d$, and permitted to use $k$ times, we present a universal probabilistic heralded quantum circuit that implements the exact inverse $U_d^{-1}$, whose failure probability decays, exponentially in $k$. The protocol employs an adaptive strategy, proven necessary for the exponential performance. It requires $k\geq d-1$, proven necessary for exact implementation of $U_d^{-1}$ with quantum circuits. Moreover, even when quantum circuits with indefinite causal order are allowed, $k\geq d-…
We study unitary evolution of bipartite entanglement in a circuit with nearest-neighbor random gates. Deriving a compact non-unitary description of purity dynamics on qudits we find a sudden transition in the purity relaxation rate the origin of which is in the underlying boundary localized eigenmodes -- the skin effect. We provide the full solution of the problem, being one of the simplest iterations of two-site matrices, namely, that each is a sum of only two projectors. This leads to rich dynamics influenced by the Jordan normal form of the kernel and, most importantly, a spectrum that is c…

A class of non-Dirac-hermitian many-particle quantum systems admitting entirely real spectra and unitary time-evolution is presented. These quantum models are isospectral with Dirac-hermitian systems and are exactly solvable. The general method involves a realization of the basic canonical commutation relations defining the quantum system in terms of operators those are hermitian with respect to a pre-determined positive definite metric in the Hilbert space. Appropriate combinations of these operators result in a large number of pseudo-hermitian quantum systems admitting entirely real spectra …
A massless Dirac particle is considered, moving along the x-axis while Pauli-coupled by its anomalous magnetic moment to a piecewise constant magnetic field along the same axis, with stochastically varying sign. The motion is approximated as a quantum walk with unitary noise, for which the evolution can be found exactly. Initially ballistic, the motion approaches a classical diffusion on a time-scale determined by the speed of light, the size of the magnetic moment, the strength of the field and the time interval between changes in its direction. It is suggested that a process of this type cou…
The time-evolution operator for an explicitly time-dependent Hamiltonian is expressed as the product of a sequence of unitary operators. These are obtained by successive time-dependent unitary transformations of the Hilbert space followed by the adiabatic approximation at each step. The resulting adiabatic product expansion yields a generalization of the quantum adiabatic approximation. Furthermore, it leads to an infinite class of exactly solvable models.
We consider the class of dual-unitary quantum circuits in $1+1$ dimensions and introduce a notion of ``solvable'' matrix product states (MPSs), defined by a specific condition which allows us to tackle their time evolution analytically. We provide a classification of the latter, showing that they include certain MPSs of arbitrary bond dimension, and study analytically different aspects of their dynamics. For these initial states, we show that while any subsystem of size $\ell$ reaches infinite temperature after a time $t\propto \ell$, irrespective of the presence of conserved quantities, the l…
We extend the concept of dual unitary quantum gates to quantum lattice models in $2 + 1$ dimensions, by introducing and studying ternary unitary four-particle gates, which are unitary in time and both spatial dimensions. When used as building blocks of lattice models with periodic boundary conditions in time and space (corresponding to infinite temperature states), dynamical correlation functions exhibit a light-ray structure. We also generalize solvable MPS to two spatial dimensions with cylindrical boundary conditions, by showing that the analogous solvable PEPS can be identified with matrix…
It is shown that for a given Hermitian Hamiltonian possessing supersymmetry, there is alwayas a non-hermitian Jaynes-Cummings-type Hamiltonian(JCTH) admitting entirely real spectra. The parent supersymmetric Hamiltonian and the corresponding non-hermitian JCTH are simultaneously diagonalizable. The exact eigenstates of these non-hermitian Hamiltonians are constructed algebraically for certain shape-invariant potentials, including a non-hermitian version of the standard Jaynes-Cummings model for which the parent supersymmetric Hamiltonian is the superoscillator. The positive-definite metric ope…

This study is focused on the quantum dynamics of a nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center coupled to a nonlinear, periodically driven mechanical oscillator. For a continuous periodic driving that depends on the position of the oscillator, the mechanical motion is described by Mathieu elliptic functions. This solution is employed to study the dynamics of the quantum spin system including environmental effects and to evaluate the purity and the von Neumann entropy of the NV-spin. The unitary generation of coherence is addressed. We observe that the production of coherence through a unitary transformation …

The interaction between an atom and a one mode external driving field is an ubiquitous problem in many branches of physics and is often modeled using the Rabi Hamiltonian. In this paper we present a series of analytically solvable Hamiltonians that approximate the Rabi Hamiltonian and compare our results to the Jaynes-Cummings model which neglects the so-called counter-rotating term in the Rabi Hamiltonian. Through a unitary transformation that diagonlizes the Jaynes-Cummings model, we transform the counter-rotating term into separate terms representing several different physical processes. By…

A non-unitary version of quantum scattering is studied via an exactly solvable toy model. The model is merely asymptotically local since the smooth path of the coordinate is admitted complex in the non-asymptotic domain. At any real angular-momentum-like parameter the reflection R and transmission T are shown to change with the winding number (i.e., topology) of the path. The points of unitarity appear related to the points of existence of quantum-knot bound states.
We study the relationship between one-dimensional fermion gas-impurity models and quantum dissipative systems, via the method of constructive bosonisation and unitary transformation. Starting from an anisotropic Coqblin-Schrieffer model, a new, exactly solvable, three-level quantum dissipative system is derived as a generalisation of the standard spin-half spin-boson model. The new system has two environmental oscillator baths with ohmic coupling, and admits arbitrary detuning between the three levels. All tunnelling matrix elements are equal, up to one complex phase which is itself a function…
The measurement of a spin-$\half$ is modeled by coupling it to an apparatus, that consists of an Ising magnetic dot coupled to a phonon bath. Features of quantum measurements are derived from the dynamical solution of the measurement, regarded as a process of quantum statistical mechanics. Schrödinger cat terms involving both the system and the apparatus, die out very quickly, while the registration is a process taking the apparatus from its initially metastable state to one of its stable final states. The occurrence of Born probabilities can be inferred at the macroscopic level, by looking at…
The generalization of the factorization method performed by Mielnik [J. Math. Phys. {\bf 25}, 3387 (1984)] opened new ways to generate exactly solvable potentials in quantum mechanics. We present an application of Mielnik's method to hypergeometric type operators. It is based on some solvable Riccati equations and leads to a unitary description of the quantum systems exactly solvable in terms of orthogonal polynomials or associated special functions.
Closed quantum systems evolve unitarily and therefore cannot converge in a strong sense to an equilibrium state starting out from a generic pure state. Nevertheless for large system size one observes temporal typicality. Namely, for the overwhelming majority of the time instants, the statistics of observables is practically indistinguishable from an effective equilibrium one. In this paper we consider the Loschmidt echo (LE) to study this sort of unitary equilibration after a quench. We draw several conclusions on general grounds and on the basis of an exactly-solvable example of a quasi-free …
A non-hermitian deformation of the one-dimensional transverse Ising model is shown to have the property of quasi-hermiticity. The transverse Ising chain is obtained from the starting non-hermitian Hamiltonian through a similarity transformation. Consequently, both the models have identical eigen-spectra, although the eigen-functions are different. The metric in the Hilbert space, which makes the non-hermitian model unitary and ensures the completeness of states, has been constructed explicitly. Although the longitudinal correlation functions are identical for both the non-hermitian and the her…
Searching for non-Hermitian (parity-time)$\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric Hamiltonians \cite{bender} with real spectra has been acquiring much interest for fourteen years. In this article, we have introduced a $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetric non-Hermitian Hamiltonian model which is given as $\hat{\mathcal{H}}=ω(\hat{b}^\dagger\hat{b}+\frac{1}{2})+ α(\hat{b}^{2}-(\hat{b}^\dagger)^{2})$ where $ω$ and $α$ are real constants, $\hat{b}$ and $\hat{b^\dagger}$ are first order differential operators. Moreover, Pseudo-Hermiticity that is a generalization of $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry has been attracting a growing intere…
An exactly solvable model for a quantum measurement is discussed which is governed by hamiltonian quantum dynamics. The $z$-component $\hat s_z$ of a spin-1/2 is measured with an apparatus, which itself consists of magnet coupled to a bath. The initial state of the magnet is a metastable paramagnet, while the bath starts in a thermal, gibbsian state. Conditions are such that the act of measurement drives the magnet in the up or down ferromagnetic state according to the sign of $s_z$ of the tested spin. The quantum measurement goes in two steps. On a timescale $1/\sqrt{N}$ the off-diagonal elem…
The non-Hermitian models, which are symmetric under parity (P) and time-reversal (T) operators, are the cornerstone for the fabrication of new ultra-sensitive optoelectronic devices. However, providing the gain in such systems usually demands precise contorol of nonlinear processes, limiting their application. In this paper, to bypass this obstacle, we introduce a class of time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonians (not necessarily Floquet) that can describe a two-level system with temporally modulated on-site potential and couplings. We show that implementing an appropriate non-Unitary gauge t…
The out-of-time-ordered correlator (OTOC) is a measure of quantum chaos that is being vigorously investigated. Analytically accessible simple models that have long been studied in other contexts could provide insights into such measures. This paper investigates the OTOC in the quantum bakers map which is the quantum version of a simple and exactly solvable model of deterministic chaos that caricatures the action of kneading dough. Exact solutions based on the semiquantum approximation are derived that tracks very well the correlators till the Ehrenfest time. The growth occurs at the exponentia…
An exactly solvable model for a quantum measurement is discussed, that integrates quantum measurements with classical measurements. The z-component of a spin-1/2 test spin is measured with an apparatus, that itself consists of magnet of N spin-1/2 particles, coupled to a bath. The initial state of the magnet is a metastable paramagnet, while the bath starts in a thermal, gibbsian state. Conditions are such that the act of measurement drives the magnet in the up or down ferromagnetic state, according to the sign of s_z of the test spin. The quantum measurement goes in two steps. On a timescale …
Certain patterns of symmetry fractionalization in (2+1)D topologically ordered phases of matter can be anomalous, which means that they possess an obstruction to being realized in purely (2+1)D. In this paper we demonstrate how to compute the anomaly for symmetry-enriched topological (SET) states of bosons in complete generality. We demonstrate how, given any unitary modular tensor category (UMTC) and symmetry fractionalization class for a global symmetry group $G$, one can define a (3+1)D topologically invariant path integral in terms of a state sum for a $G$ symmetry-protected topological (S…
We introduce both an exactly solvable model and a coupled-layer construction for an exotic, three-dimensional phase of matter with immobile topological excitations that carry a protected internal degeneracy. Unitary transformations on this degenerate Hilbert space may be implemented by braiding certain point-like excitations. This provides a new way of extending non-Abelian statistics to three-dimensions.
Hybrid evolution protocols, composed of unitary dynamics and repeated, weak or projective measurements, give rise to new, intriguing quantum phenomena, including entanglement phase transitions and unconventional conformal invariance. Defying the complications imposed by the non-linear and stochastic nature of the measurement process, we introduce a scenario of measurement-induced many body evolution, which possesses an exact analytical solution: bosonic Gaussian measurements. The evolution features a competition between the continuous observation of linear boson operators and a free Hamiltonia…
This paper considers a two-level atom interacting with two cavity modes with equal frequencies. Applying a unitary transformation, the system reduces to the analytically solvable Jaynes-Cummings model. For some particular field states, coherent and squeezed states, the transformation between the two bare basis's, related by the unitary transformation, becomes particularly simple. It is shown how to generate, the highly non-classical, entangled coherent states of the two modes, both in the zero and large detuning cases. An advantage with the zero detuning case is that the preparation is determi…
In this paper, we focus on a general class of Schrödinger equations that are time-dependent and quadratic in X and P. We transform Schrödinger equations in this class, via a class of time-dependent mass equations, to a class of solvable time-dependent oscillator equations. This transformation consists of a unitary transformation and a change in the ``time'' variable. We derive mathematical constraints forthe transformation and introduce two examples.
Isospectral transformations of exactly solvable models constitute a fruitful method for obtaining new structures with prescribed properties. In this paper we study the stability group of the Dirac algebra in honeycomb lattices representing graphene or boron nitride. New crystalline arrays with conical (Dirac) points are obtained; in particular, a model for dichalcogenide monolayers is proposed and analyzed. In our studies we encounter unitary and non-unitary transformations. We show that the latter give rise to $\mbox{$\cal P\,$}\mbox{$\cal T\,$}$-symmetric Hamiltonians, in compliance with kno…
Motivated by understanding the power of quantum computation with restricted number of qubits, we give two complete characterizations of unitary quantum space bounded computation. First we show that approximating an element of the inverse of a well-conditioned efficiently encoded $2^{k(n)}\times 2^{k(n)}$ matrix is complete for the class of problems solvable by quantum circuits acting on $\mathcal{O}(k(n))$ qubits with all measurements at the end of the computation. Similarly, estimating the minimum eigenvalue of an efficiently encoded Hermitian $2^{k(n)}\times 2^{k(n)}$ matrix is also complete…
The Kitaev honeycomb model is a paradigm of exactly-solvable models, showing non-trivial physical properties such as topological quantum order, abelian and non-abelian anyons, and chirality. Its solution is one of the most beautiful examples of the interplay of different mathematical techniques in condensed matter physics. In this paper, we show how to derive a tensor network (TN) description of the eigenstates of this spin-1/2 model in the thermodynamic limit, and in particular for its ground state. In our setting, eigenstates are naturally encoded by an exact 3d TN structure made of fermioni…
We extend the notion of the transfer matrix of potential scattering to a large class of long-range potentials $v(x)$ and derive its basic properties. We outline a dynamical formulation of the time-independent scattering theory for this class of potentials where we identify their transfer matrix with the $S$-matrix of a certain effective non-unitary two-level quantum system. For sufficiently large values of $|x|$, we express $v(x)$ as the sum of a short-range potential and an exactly solvable long-range potential. Using this result and the composition property of the transfer matrix, we outline…
