We introduce a new class of quantum models with time-dependent Hamiltonians of a special scaling form. By using a couple of time-dependent unitary transformations, the time evolution of these models is expressed in terms of related systems with time-independent Hamiltonians. The mapping of dynamics can be performed in any dimension, for an arbitrary number of interacting particles and for any type of the scaling interaction potential. The exact solvability of a "dual" time-independent Hamiltonian automatically means the exact solvability of the original problem with model time-dependence.
Time is a valuable resource and it seems intuitive that longer time should lead to better precision in Hamiltonian parameter estimation. However recent studies have put this intuition into question, showing longer time may even lead to worse estimation in certain cases. Here we show that the intuition can be restored if coherent feedback controls are included. By deriving asymptotically optimal feedback controls we present a quantification of the maximal improvement feedback controls can provide in Hamiltonian parameter estimation and show a universal time scaling for the precision limit of Ha…
We report on a time scaling technique to enhance the performances of quantum protocols in non-Hermitian systems. The considered time scaling involves no extra-couplings and yields a significant enhancement of the quantum fidelity for a comparable amount of resources. We discuss the application of this technique to quantum state transfers in 2 and 3-level open quantum systems. We derive the quantum speed limit in a system governed by a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian. Interestingly, we show that, with an appropriate driving, the time-scaling technique preserves the optimality of the quantum speed wit…
In this work we address systems described by time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonians under time-dependent Dyson maps. We shown that when starting from a given time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian which is not itself an observable, an infinite chain of gauge linked time-dependent non-observable non-Hermitian Hamiltonians can be derived from it. The matrix elements of the observables associated with all these non observable Hamiltonians are, however, all linked to each other, and in the particular case where global gauges exist, these matrix elements becomes all identical to each other. In…
We provide a quantum method for simulating Hamiltonian evolution with complexity polynomial in the logarithm of the inverse error. This is an exponential improvement over existing methods for Hamiltonian simulation. In addition, its scaling with respect to time is close to linear, and its scaling with respect to the time derivative of the Hamiltonian is logarithmic. These scalings improve upon most existing methods. Our method is to use a compressed Lie-Trotter formula, based on recent ideas for efficient discrete-time simulations of continuous-time quantum query algorithms.
In recent years, quantum annealing has gained the status of being a promising candidate for solving various optimization problems. Using a set of hard 2-satisfiabilty (2-SAT) problems, consisting of upto 18-variables problems, we analyze the scaling complexity of the quantum annealing algorithm and study the distributions of the minimum energy gap and the success probability. We extend the analysis of the standard quantum annealing Hamiltonian by introducing an additional term, the trigger Hamiltonian, which can be of two types : ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic. We use these trigger Hamilt…
In quantum metrology, nonlinear many-body interactions can enhance the precision of Hamiltonian parameter estimation to surpass the Heisenberg scaling. Here, we consider the estimation of the interaction strength in linear systems with long-range interactions and using the Kitaev chains as a case study, we establish a transition from the Heisenberg to super-Heisenberg scaling in the quantum Fisher information by varying the interaction range. We further show that quantum control can improve the prefactor of the quantum Fisher information. Our results explore the advantage of optimal quantum co…
It has been argued that it is incompatible to maintain unitary time-evolution for time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonians when the metric operator is explicitly time-dependent. We demonstrate here that the time-dependent Dyson equation and the time-dependent quasi-Hermiticity relation can be solved consistently in such a scenario for a time-dependent Dyson map and time-dependent metric operator, respectively. These solutions are obtained at the cost of rendering the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian to be a non-observable operator as it ceases to be quasi-Hermitian when the metric becomes time-depen…
Transition probabilities for a class of two level systems described by explicitly time dependent Hamiltonians are considered. Provided only that the approach to the infinite time limit is non-trivial falling at least as fast as 1/t for large t, the transition probability takes a particularly simple form depending only on the value of Hamiltonian parameters in this limit.
We propose a procedure to obtain exact analytical solutions to the time-dependent Schrödinger equations involving explicit time-dependent Hermitian Hamitonians from solutions to time-independent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems and the time-dependent Dyson relation together with the time-dependent quasi-Hermiticity relation. We illustrate the working of this method for a simple Hermitian Rabi-type model by relating it to a non-Hermitian time-independent system corresponding to the one-site lattice Yang-Lee model.
Here we present an strategy for the derivation of a time-dependent Dyson map which ensures simultaneously the unitarity of the time evolution and the observability of a quasi-Hermitian Hamiltonian. The time-dependent Dyson map is derived through a constructed Schrödinger-like equation governed by the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian itself; despite its time-dependence our scheme ensures the time-independence of the metric operator, a necessary condition for the observability of the quasi-Hermitian Hamiltonian. As an illustrative example we consider a driven Harmonic oscillator described by a time-dep…
The non-crossing rule for the energy levels of a parameter-dependent Hamiltonian is revisited and a flaw in a commonly accepted proof is revealed. Some aspects of avoided crossings are illustrated by means of simple models. One of them shows the close relationship between avoided crossings and exceptional points.
With the aim to solve the time-dependent Schrödinger equation associated to a time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, we introduce a unitary transformation that maps the Hamiltonian to a time-independent $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric one. Consequently, the solution of time-dependent Schrödinger equation becomes easily deduced and the evolution preserves the $\mathcal{C(}t\mathcal{)PT}$-inner product, where $\mathcal{C(}t\mathcal{)}$ is a obtained from the charge conjugation operator $\mathcal{C}$ through a time dependent unitary transformation. Moreover, the expectation value of the non-Hermitian…
We provide a general method for efficiently simulating time-dependent Hamiltonian dynamics on a circuit-model based quantum computer. Our approach is based on approximating the truncated Dyson series of the evolution operator, extending the earlier proposal by Berry to evolution generated by explicitly time-dependent Hamiltonians. Two alternative strategies are proposed to implement time ordering while exploiting the superposition principle for sampling the Hamiltonian at different times. The resource cost of our simulation algorithm retains the optimal logarithmic dependence on the inverse of…
Quantum metrology has been studied for a wide range of systems with time-independent Hamiltonians. For systems with time-dependent Hamiltonians, however, due to the complexity of dynamics, little has been known about quantum metrology. Here we investigate quantum metrology with time-dependent Hamiltonians to bridge this gap. We obtain the optimal quantum Fisher information for parameters in time-dependent Hamiltonians, and show proper Hamiltonian control is necessary to optimize the Fisher information. We derive the optimal Hamiltonian control, which is generally adaptive, and the measurement …
Given a generic time-dependent many-body quantum state, we determine the associated parent Hamiltonian. This procedure may require, in general, interactions of any sort. Enforcing the requirement of a fixed set of engineerable Hamiltonians, we find the optimal Hamiltonian once a set of realistic elementary interactions is defined. We provide three examples of this approach. We first apply the optimization protocol to the ground states of the one-dimensional Ising model and a ferromagnetic $p$-spin model but with time-dependent coefficients. We also consider a time-dependent state that interpol…
For a large class of time-dependent non-Hermitain Hamiltonians expressed in terms linear and bilinear combinations of the generators for an Euclidean Lie-algebra respecting different types of PT-symmetries, we find explicit solutions to the time-dependent Dyson equation. A specific Hermitian model with explicit time-dependence is analyzed further and shown to be quasi-exactly solvable. Technically we constructed the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariants making useof the metric picture, which is an equivalent alternative to the Schrödinger, Heisenberg and interaction picture containing the time-dependenc…
A new class of time-energy uncertainty relations is directly derived from the Schrödinger equations for time-dependent Hamiltonians. Only the initial states and the Hamiltonians, but neither the instantaneous eigenstates nor the full time-dependent wave functions, which would demand a full solution for a time-dependent Hamiltonian, are required for our time-energy relations. Explicit results are then presented for particular subcases of interest for time-independent Hamiltonians and also for time-varying Hamiltonians employed in adiabatic quantum computation. Some estimates of the lower bounds…
We investigate simultaneous estimation of multi-parameter quantum estimation with time-dependent Hamiltonians. We analytically obtain the maximal quantum Fisher information matrix for two-parameter in time-dependent three-level systems. The optimal coherent control scheme is proposed to increase the estimation precisions. In a example of a spin-1 particle in a uniformly rotating magnetic field, the optimal coherent Hamiltonians for different parameters can be chosen to be completely same. However, in general, the optimal coherent Hamiltonians for different parameters are incompatibility. In th…
The validity of optimized dynamical decoupling (DD) is extended to analytically time dependent Hamiltonians. As long as an expansion in time is possible the time dependence of the initial Hamiltonian does not affect the efficiency of optimized dynamical decoupling (UDD, Uhrig DD). This extension provides the analytic basis for (i) applying UDD to effective Hamiltonians in time dependent reference frames, for instance in the interaction picture of fast modes and for (ii) its application in hierarchical DD schemes with $π$ pulses about two perpendicular axes in spin space. to suppress general de…
We find an exact solution to the Dirac equation in 1-1 dimensional space-time in the presence of a time-dependent potential which consists of a combination of electric, scalar, and pseudoscalar terms.
The generalization of the concept of interaction-free evolutions (IFE) [A. Napoli, {\it et al.}, Phys. Rev. A {\bf 89}, 062104 (2014)] to the case of time-dependent Hamiltonians is discussed. It turns out that the time-dependent case allows for much more rich structures of interaction-free states and interaction-free subspaces. The general condition for the occurrence of IFE is found and exploited to analyze specific situations. Several examples are presented, each one associated to a class of Hamiltonians with specific features.
The evolution speed in projective Hilbert space is considered for Hermitian Hamiltonians and for non-Hermitian (NH) ones. Based on the Hilbert-Schmidt norm and the spectral norm of a Hamiltonian, resource-related upper bounds on the evolution speed are constructed. These bounds are valid also for NH Hamiltonians and they are illustrated for an optical NH Hamiltonian and for a non-Hermitian $\mathcal{PT}-$symmetric matrix Hamiltonian. Furthermore, the concept of quantum speed efficiency is introduced as measure of the system resources directly spent on the motion in the projective Hilbert space…
The dispersive interaction between a two-level atom and a quantized field is studied. We consider besides a time dependent linear amplification and dissipative processes. In order to solve the master equation for this system, we use superoperator techniques.
We propose a scheme to deal with certain time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian operators $H(t)$ that generate a real phase in their time-evolution. This involves the use of invariant operators $I_{PH}(t)$ that are pseudo-Hermitian with respect to the time-dependent metric operator, which implies that the dynamics is governed by unitary time evolution. Furthermore, $H(t)$ is not generally quasi-Hermitian and does not define an observable of the system but $I_{PH}(t)$ obeys a quasi-hermiticity transformation as in the completely time-independent Hamiltonian systems case. The harmonic oscillat…
The accuracy of quantum dynamics simulation is usually measured by the error of the unitary evolution operator in the operator norm, which in turn depends on certain norm of the Hamiltonian. For unbounded operators, after suitable discretization, the norm of the Hamiltonian can be very large, which significantly increases the simulation cost. However, the operator norm measures the worst-case error of the quantum simulation, while practical simulation concerns the error with respect to a given initial vector at hand. We demonstrate that under suitable assumptions of the Hamiltonian and the ini…
We present an algorithm for sparse Hamiltonian simulation whose complexity is optimal (up to log factors) as a function of all parameters of interest. Previous algorithms had optimal or near-optimal scaling in some parameters at the cost of poor scaling in others. Hamiltonian simulation via a quantum walk has optimal dependence on the sparsity at the expense of poor scaling in the allowed error. In contrast, an approach based on fractional-query simulation provides optimal scaling in the error at the expense of poor scaling in the sparsity. Here we combine the two approaches, achieving the bes…

A propagation method for time-dependent Schrödinger equations with an explicitly time-dependent Hamiltonian is developed where time ordering is achieved iteratively. The explicit time-dependence of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation is rewritten as an inhomogeneous term. At each step of the iteration, the resulting inhomogeneous Schrödinger equation is solved with the Chebychev propagation scheme presented in J. Chem. Phys. 130, 124108 (2009). The iteratively time-ordering Chebychev propagator is shown to be robust, efficient and accurate and compares very favorably to all other available…
We calculate the exceptional points of the eigenvalues of several parameter-dependent Hamiltonian operators of mathematical and physical interest. We show that the calculation is greatly facilitated by the application of the discriminant to the secular determinant. In this way the problem reduces to finding the roots of a polynomial function of just one variable, the parameter in the Hamiltonian operator. As illustrative examples we consider a particle in a one-dimensional box with a polynomial potential, the periodic Mathieu equation, the Stark effect in a polar rigid rotor and in a polar sym…
In this paper we present a general method to solve non hermetic potentials with PT symmetry using the introduction of two first-order operator against η-pseudo-hermetic(η-weak-pseudo-hermiticity) with position dependent effective mass and applying it to Dirac equation with spinor wave function and non-hermitic potentials with real energy spectrum considering position dependent effective mass. Also Pöschl-teller complex and Eckart potentials will be discussed as examples.
In this work we present the simplest generic form of the propagator for the time-dependent quadratic Hamiltonian. We manifest the simplicity of our method by giving explicitly the propagators for a free particle in time-dependent electric field, forced harmonic oscillator and the Paul trap. Exact transition amplitudes and uncertainties are calculated analytically for the Paul trap and harmonic oscillator. The results show that near the instability regions very large quantum mechanical uncertainties are obtained as demonstrated in a special figure. The method is also applied to calculating the …
Simulating Hamiltonian dynamics is one of the most fundamental and significant tasks for characterising quantum materials. Recently, a series of quantum algorithms employing block-encoding of Hamiltonians have succeeded in providing efficient simulation of time-evolution operators on quantum computers. While time-independent Hamiltonians can be simulated by the quantum eigenvalue transformation (QET) or quantum singularvalue transformation with the optimal query complexity in time $t$ and desirable accuracy $\varepsilon$, generic time-dependent Hamiltonians face at larger query complexity and …
Explicitly time-dependent pseudo-Hermitian (TDPH) invariants theory systems, with a time-dependent (TD) metric, is developed for a time-dependent non Hermitian (TDNH) quantum systems. We derive a simple relation between the eigenstates of this pseudo-Hermitien (PH) invariant and the solutions of the Schrodinger equation. A physical system is treated in detail: the TD Swanson model, where an explicitly TDPH invariant is derived for this system, the eigenvalues and eigenstates of the invariant are calculated explicitly.
We study the time evolution of quantum systems with a time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian given by a linear combination of SU(1,1) and SU(2) generators. With a time-dependent metric, the pseudo-Hermitian invariant operator is constructed in the same manner as for both the SU(1,1) and SU(2) systems. The exact common solutions of the Schrödinger equations for both the SU(1,1) and SU(2) systems are obtained in terms of eigenstates of the pseudo-Hermitian invariant operator.
By solving the Schrödinger equation one obtains the whole energy spectrum, both the bound and the continuum states. If the Hamiltonian depends on a set of parameters, these could be tuned to a transition from bound to continuum states. The behavior of systems near the threshold, which separates bound-states from continuum states, is important in the study of such phenomenon as: ionization of atoms and molecules, molecule dissociation, scattering collisions and stability of matter. In general, the energy is non-analytic as a function of the Hamiltonian parameters or a bound-state does not exist…
We consider the manifold of all quantum many-body states that can be generated by arbitrary time-dependent local Hamiltonians in a time that scales polynomially in the system size, and show that it occupies an exponentially small volume in Hilbert space. This implies that the overwhelming majority of states in Hilbert space are not physical as they can only be produced after an exponentially long time. We establish this fact by making use of a time-dependent generalization of the Suzuki-Trotter expansion, followed by a counting argument. This also demonstrates that a computational model based …

Cavity resonators are promising resources for quantum technology, while native nonlinear interactions for cavities are typically too weak to provide the level of quantum control required to deliver complex targeted operations. Here we investigate a scheme to engineer a target Hamiltonian for photonic cavities using ancilla qubits. By off-resonantly driving dispersively coupled ancilla qubits, we develop an optimized approach to engineering an arbitrary photon-number-dependent (PND) Hamiltonian for the cavities while minimizing the operation errors. The engineered Hamiltonian admits various app…
