In this paper, we define a certain Hodge-theoretic structure for an arbitrary variety X over the complex number field by using the theory of mixed Hodge module due to Morihiko Saito. We call it an arithmetic Hodge structure of X. It is shown that extension groups of arithmetic Hodge structure do not vanish even for degree $\geq2$. Moreover, we define higher Abel-Jacobi maps from Bloch's higher Chow groups of X to these extension groups. These maps essentially involve the classical Abel-Jacobi maps by Weil and Griffiths, and Mumford's infinitesimal invariants of 0-cycles on surfaces.
We show that the pairing on de Rham realizations of 1-motives in "Theorie di Hodge III", IHES 44, can be defined over any base scheme and we prove that it gives rise to a perfect duality if one is working with a 1-motive and its Cartier dual. Furthermore we study universal extensions of 1-motives and their relation with $\natural$-extensions.
After reviewing some basic facts about pure and mixed motives, we explain, following Deligne-Goncharov, how to construct a de Rham realisation functor from the category of geometric mixed motives to the category of bifiltered vector spaces.
We introduce the categories of geometric mixed Hodge modules on algebraic varieties over a subfield $k\subset\mathbb C$, and for a prime number $p$, the categories of geometric $p$-adic mixed Hodge modules on algebraic varieties over a subfield $k\subset K\subset\mathbb C_p$ of a p-adic field $K$. We then give an Hodge realization functor on the de derived category of relative motives over $k\subset\mathbb C$, and for a prime number $p$ a $p$-adic Hodge realization functor on the derived category of relative motives over $k\subset K\subset\mathbb C_p$.
We define a category of motives for semi-algebraic spaces and show that it is trivial. This implies that there is no good extension of algebraic de Rham cohomology to semi-algebraic spaces compatible with the period isomorphism.
We give, for a complex algebraic variety $S$, a Hodge realization functor $\mathcal F_S^{Hdg}$ from the derived category of constructible motives $DA_c(S)$ to the derived category $D(MHM(S))$ of algebraic mixed Hodge modules over $S$. Moreover, for $f:T\to S$ a morphism of complex quasi-projective algebraic varieties, $\mathcal F_{-}^{Hdg}$ commutes with the four operation $f^*$,$f_*$,$f_!$,$f^!$ on $DA_c(-)$ and $D(MHM(-))$, making the Hodge realization functor a morphism of 2-functor wich for a given $S$ sends $DA_c(S)$ to $D(MHM(S)$, moreover $\mathcal F_S^{Hdg}$ commutes with tensor produc…
The author constructs a theory of dagger formal schemes over $R$ and then defines the de Rham cohomology for flat dagger formal schemes $X$ with integral and regular reductions $\bar{X}$ which generalizes the Monsky-Washnitzer cohomology. Finally the author gets Lefschetz' fixed pointed formula for $X$ with certain conditions.
This paper is concerned with an interpretation of f-cohomology, a modification of motivic cohomology of motives over number fields, in terms of motives over number rings. Under standard assumptions on mixed motives over finite fields, number fields and number rings, we show that the two extant definitions of f-cohomology of mixed motives $M_η$ over F--one via ramification conditions on $\ell$-adic realizations, another one via the K-theory of proper regular models--both agree with motivic cohomology of $η_{!*} M_η[1]$. Here $η_{!*}$ is constructed by a limiting process in terms of intermediate…
In the 1960s, Dwork developed a p-adic cohomology theory of de Rham type for varieties over finite fields, based on a trace formula for the action of a Frobenius operator on certain spaces of p-adic analytic functions. One can consider a purely algebraic analogue of Dwork's theory for varieties over a field of characteristic zero and ask what is the connection between this theory and ordinary de Rham cohomology. N. Katz showed that Dwork cohomology coincides with the primitive part of de Rham cohomology for smooth projective hypersurfaces, but the exact relationship for varieties of higher cod…
One of the main tools for the study of compact hyperkähler manifolds is the natural action of the Looijenga-Lunts-Verbitsky Lie algebra on the cohomology of such manifolds. This also applies to the mildly singular holomorphic symplectic varieties - hyperkähler orbifolds, allowing us to prove that André motives of such orbifolds tend to be abelian.
We show that hypergeometric differential equations, unitary and Gauss-Manin connections give rise to de Rham cohomology sheaves which do not admit a Bloch-Ogus resolution. The latter is in contrast to Panin's theorem asserting that corresponding étale cohomology sheaves do fulfill Bloch-Ogus theory.
Building up on work of Epstein, May and Drury, we define and investigate the mod $p$ Steenrod operations on the de Rham cohomology of smooth algebraic stacks over a field of characteristic $p>0$. We then compute the action of the operations on the de Rham cohomology of classifying stacks for finite groups, connected reductive groups for which $p$ is not a torsion prime, and (special) orthogonal groups when $p=2$.
For any hyperelliptic curve X, we give an explicit basis of the first de-Rham cohomology of X in terms of Čech cohomology. We use this to produce a family of curves in characteristic p>2 for which the Hodge-de-Rham short exact sequence does not split equivariantly; this generalises a result of Hortsch. Further, we use our basis to show that the hyperelliptic involution acts on the first de-Rham cohomology by multiplication by -1, i.e., acts as the identity when p=2.
We prove that the relative log de Rham cohomology groups of a projective semistable log smooth degeneration admit a natural \textit{limiting} mixed Hodge structure. More precisely, we construct a family of increasing filtrations and a family of nilpotent endomorphisms on the relative log de Rham cohomology groups and show that they satisfy a part of good properties of a nilpotnet orbit in several variables.
We give a definition and study the basic properties of the irregular Hodge filtration on the exponentially twisted de Rham cohomology of a smooth quasi-projective complex variety.
This is a review article discussing the de Rham cohomology of period domains of Hodge structures. We explain it as the de Rham cohomology of differentiable stacks as of a moduli space. We also discuss the cohomology of the partial toroidal compactification of these domains using known formulas on cohomology or Chow rings of toric structures. The text is expository and we have tried to connect some existing ideas that probably their relations not processed in the literature of Hodge theory. We state the significance of ideas as they naturally could be related, probably with not serious mathemat…
We construct a functorial decomposition of de Rham cohomology sheaves, called weight decomposition, for smooth analytic spaces over non-Archimedean fields embeddable into $\mathbf{C}_p$, which generalizes a construction of Berkovich and solves a question raised by him. We then investigate complexes of real tropical differential forms and currents introduced by Chambert-Loir and Ducros, by establishing a relation with the weight decomposition and defining tropical cycle maps with values in the corresponding Dolbeault cohomology. As an application, we show that algebraic cycles that are cohomolo…
We prove that algebraic de Rham cohomology as a functor defined on smooth $\mathbb{F}_p$-algebras is formally étale in a precise sense. This result shows that given de Rham cohomology, one automatically obtains the theory of crystalline cohomology as its unique functorial deformation. To prove this, we define and study the notion of a pointed $\mathbb{G}_a^{\mathrm{perf}}$-module and its refinement which we call a quasi-ideal in $\mathbb{G}_a^{\mathrm{perf}}$ -- following Drinfeld's terminology. Our main constructions show that there is a way to "unwind" any pointed $\mathbb{G}_a^{\text{perf}}…
Let $k$ be a perfect field of characteristic $p > 0$, $W_n = W_n(k)$. For separated $k$-schemes of finite type, we explain how rigid cohomology with compact supports can be computed as the cohomology of certain de Rham-Witt complexes with coefficients. This result generalizes the classical comparison theorem of Bloch-Illusie for proper and smooth schemes. In the proof, the key step is an extension of the Bloch-Illusie theorem to the case of cohomologies relative to $W_n$ with coefficients in a crystal that is only supposed to be flat over $W_n$.
We introduce the "sharp" (universal) extension of a 1-motive (with additive factors and torsion) over a field of characteristic zero. We define the "sharp de Rham realization" by passing to the Lie-algebra. Over the complex numbers we then show a (sharp de Rham) comparison theorem in the category of formal Hodge structures. For a free 1-motive along with its Cartier dual we get a canonical connection on their sharp extensions yielding a perfect pairing on sharp realizations. We thus provide "one-dimensional sharp de Rham cohomology" of algebraic varieties.
We prove: if the (étale or de Rham) realization functor is conservative on the category $DM_{gm}$ of Voevodsky motives with rational coefficients then motivic zeta functions of arbitrary varieties are rational and numerical motives are Kimura-finite. The latter statement immediately implies that the category of numerical motives is (essentially) Tannakian. This observation becomes actual due to the recent announcement of J. Ayoub that the De Rham cohomology realization is conservative on $DM_{gm}(k)$ whenever $\operatorname{char} k=0$. We apply this statement to exterior powers of motives comi…
Let X be a smooth complex algebraic variety with the Zariski topology, and let Y be the underlying complex manifold with the complex topology. Grothendieck's algebraic de Rham theorem asserts that the singular cohomology of Y with complex coefficients can be computed from the complex of sheaves of algebraic differential forms on X. This article gives an elementary proof of Grothendieck's algebraic de Rham theorem, elementary in the sense that we use only tools from standard textbooks as well as Serre's FAC and GAGA papers.
The goal of this small note is to extend a result by Christopher Davis and David Zureick-Brown on the comparison between integral Monsky-Washnitzer cohomology and overconvergent de~Rham-Witt cohomology for a smooth variety over a perfect field of positive characteristic $p$ to all cohomological degrees independent of the dimension of the base or the prime number $p$. Le but de ce travail est de prolonger un résultat de Christopher Davis et David Zureick-Brown concernant la comparaison entre la cohomologie de Monsky-Washnitzer entière et la cohomologie de de~Rham-Witt surconvergente d'une varié…
Let $X=\C^n$. In this paper we present an algorithm that computes the de Rham cohomology groups $H^i_{dR}(U,\C)$ where $U$ is the complement of an arbitrary Zariski-closed set $Y$ in $X$. Our algorithm is a merger of the algorithm given by T.~Oaku and N.~Takayama (\cite{O-T2}), who considered the case where $Y$ is a hypersurface, and our methods from \cite{W-1} for the computation of local cohomology. We further extend the algorithm to compute de Rham cohomology groups with support $H^i_{dR,Z}(U,\C)$ where again $U$ is an arbitrary Zariski-open subset of $X$ and $Z$ is an arbitrary Zariski-clo…
In this article, we analyze the connection between the Log De Rham Cohomology of an fs (not necessary log smooth) log scheme $Y$ over $\mathbb C$ (for $Y$ admitting an exact closed immersion into an fs log smooth log scheme over $\mathbb C$), its Log Infinitesimal Cohomology $H^{^.}(Y^{log}_{inf}, \mathcal O_{Y^{log}_{inf}})$, and its Log Betti Cohomology, which is the Cohomology of its associated Kato-Nakayama topological space $Y^{an}_{log}$, and we prove that they are isomorphic. These results are the log scheme analogues of two classical comparison theorems.
We develop the theory of Milnor-Witt motives and motivic cohomology. Compared to Voevodsky's theory of motives and his motivic cohomology, the first difference appears in our definition of Milnor-Witt finite correspondences, where our cycles come equipped with quadratic forms. This yields a weaker notion of transfers and a derived category of motives that is closer to the stable homotopy theory of schemes. We prove a cancellation theorem when tensoring with the Tate object, we compare the diagonal part of our Milnor-Witt motivic cohomology to Minor-Witt K-theory and we provide spectra represen…
We show that the bounded derived category of regular holonomic D-modules on a smooth variety is equivalent to the homotopy catgory of compact (or constructible) modules over the motivic ring spectrum $H_{dR}$ representing algebraic de Rham cohomology. This equivalence is compatible with the six functors on both sides. This way, the classical functors in the world of D-modules, $f_! := D_Y f_* D_X, f^* := D_X f^! D_Y$ ($f: X \to Y$), are conceptually explained and embedded into a larger and more flexible framework. We also apply this equivalence to obtain a motivic t-structure on $H_{dR}$-modul…
The goal of this short paper is to give a slightly different perspective on the comparison between crystalline cohomology and de Rham cohomology. Most notably, we reprove Berthelot's comparison result without using pd-stratifications, linearisations, and pd-differential operators.
In this paper we define the triangulated category of motives over a simplicial scheme. The morphisms between the Tate objects in this category compute the motivic cohomology of the underlying scheme. In the last section we consider the special case of "embedded" simplicial schemes, which correspond to the subsheaves of the constant sheaf and naturally appear in the descent problems for motivic cohomology such as the Bloch-Kato conjecture.
We reformulate a conjecture of Deligne on 1-motives by using the integral weight filtration of Gillet and Soulé on cohomology, and prove it. This implies the original conjecture up to isogeny. If the degree of cohomology is at most two, we can prove the conjecture for the Hodge realization without isogeny, and even for 1-motives with torsion.
In this short paper, we use Tannakian reconstruction techniques to prove a result that explains how to reconstruct the stacky approach to de Rham cohomology from the classical theory algebraic de Rham cohomology via an application of the adjoint functor theorem.
The SL(2,C)-representation varieties of punctured surfaces form natural families parameterized by holonomies at the punctures. In this paper, we first compute the loci where these varieties are singular for the cases of one-holed and two-holed tori and the four-holed sphere. We then compute the de Rham cohomologies of these varieties of the one-holed torus and the four-holed sphere when the varieties are smooth via the Grothendieck theorem. Furthermore, we produce the explicit Gauss-Manin connection on the natural family of the smooth SL(2,C)-representation variety of the one-holed torus.
The Cartier isomorphism allows a nice description of the Bockstein spectral sequence of the de Rham complex over the integers. It is used to compute the integral de Rham cohomology of affine spaces.
We give an algorithm to compute the following cohomology groups on $U = \C^n \setminus V(f)$ for any non-zero polynomial $f \in \Q[x_1, ..., x_n]$; 1. $H^k(U, \C_U)$, $\C_U$ is the constant sheaf on $U$ with stalk $\C$. 2. $H^k(U, \Vsc)$, $\Vsc$ is a locally constant sheaf of rank 1 on $U$. We also give partial results on computation of cohomology groups on $U$ for a locally constant sheaf of general rank and on computation of $H^k(\C^n \setminus Z, \C)$ where $Z$ is a general algebraic set. Our algorithm is based on computations of Gröbner bases in the ring of differential operators with poly…
We show that Illusie's derived de Rham cohomology (Hodge-completed) coincides with Hartshorne's algebraic de Rham cohomology for a finite type map of noetherian schemes in characteristic 0; the case of lci morphisms was a result of Illusie. In particular, the E_1-differentials in the derived Hodge-to-de Rham spectral sequence for singular varieties are often non-zero. Another consequence is a completely elementary description of Hartshorne's algebraic de Rham cohomology: it is computed by the completed Amitsur complex for any variety in characteristic 0.
For a big class of smooth dagger spaces --- dagger spaces are 'rigid spaces with overconvergent structure sheaf' --- we prove finite dimensionality of de Rham cohomology. This is enough to obtain finiteness of Berthelot's rigid cohomology also in the non-smooth case. We need a careful study of de Rham cohomology in situations of semi-stable reduction.
Let $\Bbbk$ be a field of characteristic 0. Let $X$ be a smooth complete intersection over $k$ of dimension $n-k$ in the projective space $\mathbf{P}^n_{k}$, for given positive integers $n$ and $k$. When $k=\mathbb{C}$, Terasoma (\cite{Ter90}) and Konno (\cite{Ko91}) provided an explicit representative (in terms of differential forms) of a basis for the primitive middle-dimensional algebraic de Rham cohomology $H_{dR,\operatorname{prim}}^{n-k}(X;\mathbb{C})$. Later Dimca constructed another explicit representative of a basis of $H_{dR,\operatorname{prim}}^{n-k}(X;\mathbb{C})$ in \cite{Dim95}. …
We develop birational versions of Voevodsky's triangulated categories of motives over a field, and relate them with the pure birational motives studied in arXiv:0902.4902 [math.AG]. We also get an interpretation of unramified cohomology in this framework, leading to "higher derived functors of unramified cohomology".
We prove a Hodge-type decomposition for the de-Rham cohomology of $ p$-adically uniformized varieties by the product of Drinfeld's symmetric spaces. It is based on work of Schneider, Stuhler, Iovita and Spiess on the cohomology of Drinfeld's symmetric space.
We establish a comparison isomorphism between prismatic cohomology and derived de Rham cohomology respecting various structures, such as their Frobenius actions and filtrations. As an application, when $X$ is a proper smooth formal scheme over $\mathcal O_K$ with $K$ being a $p$-adic field, we improve Breuil--Caruso's theory on comparison between torsion crystalline cohomology and torsion étale cohomology.
We define de Rham cohomology groups for rigid spaces over non-archimedean fields of characteristic zero, based on the notion of dagger space. We establish some functorial properties and a finiteness result, and discuss the relation to the rigid cohomology as defined by P. Berthelot.
This paper studies the derived de Rham cohomology of F_p and p-adic schemes, and is inspired by Beilinson's recent work. Generalising work of Illusie, we construct a natural isomorphism between derived de Rham cohomology and crystalline cohomology for lci maps of such schemes, as well logarithmic variants. These comparisons give derived de Rham descriptions of the usual period rings and related maps in p-adic Hodge theory. Placing these ideas in the skeleton of Beilinson's construction leads to a new proof of Fontaine's crystalline conjecture and Fontaine-Jannsen's semistable conjecture.
