We give, for a complex algebraic variety $S$, a Hodge realization functor $\mathcal F_S^{Hdg}$ from the derived category of constructible motives $DA_c(S)$ to the derived category $D(MHM(S))$ of algebraic mixed Hodge modules over $S$. Moreover, for $f:T\to S$ a morphism of complex quasi-projective algebraic varieties, $\mathcal F_{-}^{Hdg}$ commutes with the four operation $f^*$,$f_*$,$f_!$,$f^!$ on $DA_c(-)$ and $D(MHM(-))$, making the Hodge realization functor a morphism of 2-functor wich for a given $S$ sends $DA_c(S)$ to $D(MHM(S)$, moreover $\mathcal F_S^{Hdg}$ commutes with tensor product. We also give an algebraic and analytic Gauss-Manin realization functor from which we obtain a base change theorem for algebraic De Rham cohomology and for all smooth morphisms a realtive version of the comparaison theorem of Grothendieck between the algebaric De Rham cohomology and the analytic De Rham cohomology.
The goal of this paper is to introduce Hodge 1-motives of algebraic varieties and to state a corresponding cohomological Grothendieck-Hodge conjecture, generalizing the classical Hodge conjecture to arbitrarily singular proper schemes.
We introduce the categories of geometric mixed Hodge modules on algebraic varieties over a subfield $k\subset\mathbb C$, and for a prime number $p$, the categories of geometric $p$-adic mixed Hodge modules on algebraic varieties over a subfield $k\subset K\subset\mathbb C_p$ of a p-adic field $K$. We then give an Hodge realization functor on the de derived category of relative motives over $k\subset\mathbb C$, and for a prime number $p$ a $p$-adic Hodge realization functor on the derived category of relative motives over $k\subset K\subset\mathbb C_p$.
In this article, we will give the Deligne 1-motives up to isogeny corresponding to the $\mathbb{Q}$-limiting mixed Hodge structures of semi-stable degenerations of curves, by using logarithmic structures and Steenbrink's cohomological mixed Hodge complexes associated to semi-stable degenerations of curves.
We study mixed versions of the classical quotient functor from Chow motives to numerical motives. We compare two natural definitions, which turn out to be very different. We investigate fullness, conservativity and exactness of these two functors.
We give an alternative construction of the Betti realization functor on the derived category of motives of complex algebraic varieties via the category of CW complexes instead of the category of complex analytic spaces. In particular we show that the functor we define via the category of CW complexes coincide with Ayoub's one. We deduce from this construction that Ayoub's realization functor on geometric motives factors trough Nori motives and that the image of this functor on the morphisms between the motive of a point and a shift of a Tate twist of the motive with compact support of a comple…
We prove that the embedding of the derived category of 1-motives into the triangulated category of effective Voevodsky motives, as well as its left adjoint functor $LAlb$, commute with the Hodge realization.
In this paper, we define a certain Hodge-theoretic structure for an arbitrary variety X over the complex number field by using the theory of mixed Hodge module due to Morihiko Saito. We call it an arithmetic Hodge structure of X. It is shown that extension groups of arithmetic Hodge structure do not vanish even for degree $\geq2$. Moreover, we define higher Abel-Jacobi maps from Bloch's higher Chow groups of X to these extension groups. These maps essentially involve the classical Abel-Jacobi maps by Weil and Griffiths, and Mumford's infinitesimal invariants of 0-cycles on surfaces.
Let $C$ be a smooth projective curve of genus $g\geq 2$ over $\mathbb C$. Fix $n\geq 1$, $d\in {\mathbb Z}$. A pair $(E,ϕ)$ over $C$ consists of an algebraic vector bundle $E$ of rank $n$ and degree $d$ over $C$ and a section $ϕ\in H^0(E)$. There is a concept of stability for pairs which depends on a real parameter $τ$. Let ${\mathfrak M}_τ(n,d)$ be the moduli space of $τ$-polystable pairs of rank $n$ and degree $d$ over $C$. Here we prove that for a generic curve $C$, the moduli space ${\mathfrak M}_τ(n,d)$ satisfies the Hodge Conjecture for $n \leq 4$. For obtaining this, we prove first that…
We construct new six-functor formalisms capturing cohomological invariants of varieties with potentials. Starting from any six-functor formalism $C$, encoded as a coefficient system, we associate a new six-functor formalism $C_{\text{exp}}$. This requires in particular constructing the convolution product symmetric monoidal structure at the $\infty$-categorical level. We study $C_{\text{exp}}$ and how it relates to $C$. We also define motives in $C_{\text{exp}}$ attached to varieties with potential and study their properties.
In this article we study the class of Schur-finite motives, that is, motives which are annihilated by a Schur functor. We compare this notion to a similar one due to Kimura. In particular, we show that the motive of any curve is Kimura-finite. This last result has also been obtained by V. Guletskii. We conclude with an example by O'Sullivan of a non Kimura-finite motive which is Schur-finite.
Voevodsky's derived category of motives is the main arena today for the study of algebraic cycles and motivic cohomology. In this paper we study whether the inclusions of three important subcategories of motives have a left or right adjoint. These adjoint functors are useful constructions when they exist, describing the best approximation to an arbitrary motive by a motive in a given subcategory. We find a fairly complete picture: some adjoint functors exist, including a few which were previously unexplored, while others do not exist because of the failure of finite generation for Chow groups …
Recently, Levine constructed a DG category whose homotopy category is equivalent to the full subcategory of motives over a base-scheme $S$ generated by the motives of smooth projective $S$-schemes, assuming that $S$ is itself smooth over a perfect field. In his construction, the tensor structure required $\mathbb{Q}$-coefficients. The author has previously shown how to provide a tensor structure on the homotopy category mentioned above, when $S$ is semi-local and essentially smooth over a field of characteristic zero, extending Levine's tensor structure with $\mathbb{Q}$-coefficients. In this …
We consider proper, algebraic semismall maps f from a complex algebraic manifold X. We show that the topological Decomposition Theorem implies a "motivic" decomposition theorem for the rational algebraic cycles of X and, in the case X is compact, for the Chow motive of X.The result is a Chow-theoretic analogue of Borho-MacPherson's observation concerning the cohomology of the fibers and their relation to the relevant strata for f. Under suitable assumptions on the stratification, we prove an explicit version of the motivic decomposition theorem. The assumptions are fulfilled in many cases of i…
An abelian category of relative pure motives is constructed along the lines of André (over a field of characteristic 0). An algebraic stack is shown to possess a motive in this sense. This motive is studied for the moduli stack of G-bundles over the universal curve for appropriate G, and a motivic Atiyah-Bott formula is obtained. By taking Hodge realization, a description of the corresponding variations of Hodge structures over M_g is given. In particular, it follows that these lie in the tensor category generated by the variation of Hodge structure associated to the curve itself. Similar resu…
We prove that a variation of mixed Hodge structure is embedded in a logarithmic variation of pure Hodge structure, and a generalized version of this result. These results suggest some simple construction of the category of mixed motives by using log pure motives.
We construct a quasi-categorically enhanced Grothendieck six-functor formalism on schemes of finite type over the complex numbers. In addition to satisfying many of the same properties as M. Saito's derived categories of mixed Hodge modules, this new six-functor formalism receives canonical motivic realization functors compatible with Grothendieck's six functors on constructible objects.
We study certain 'weights' for triangulated categories endowed with $t$-structures. Our results axiomatize and describe in detail the relations between the Chow weight structure (introduced in a preceding paper), the (conjectural) motivic t-structure for Voevodsky's motives, and the conjectural weight filtration for them. This picture becomes non-conjectural when restricted to the derived categories of 1-motives (over a smooth base) and of Artin-Tate motives over number fields; other examples include Beilinson's derived category of graded polarizable mixed Hodge complexes and Saito's derived c…
We show that the pairing on de Rham realizations of 1-motives in "Theorie di Hodge III", IHES 44, can be defined over any base scheme and we prove that it gives rise to a perfect duality if one is working with a 1-motive and its Cartier dual. Furthermore we study universal extensions of 1-motives and their relation with $\natural$-extensions.
We show that the l-adic realization functor is conservative when restricted to the Chow motives of abelian type over a finite field. A weak version of this conservativity result extends to mixed motives of abelian type.
We define the categories of log motives and log mixed motives. The latter gives a new formulation for the category of mixed motives. We prove that the former is a semisimple abelian category if and only if the numerical equivalence and homological equivalence coincide, and that it is also equivalent to that the latter is a Tannakian category. We discuss various realizations, formulate Tate and Hodge conjectures, and verify them in curve case.
Deligne has conjectured that certain mixed Hodge theoretic invariants of complex algebraic invariants are motivic. This conjecture specializes to an algebraic construction of the Jacobian for smooth projective curves, which was done by A. Weil. The conjecture (and one-motives) are motivated by means of Jacobians, generalized Jacobians of Rosenlicht, and Serre's generalized Albanese varieties. We discuss the connections with the Hodge and the generalized Hodge conjecture. We end with some applications to number theory by providing partial answers to questions of Serre, Katz and Jannsen.
This paper studies Artin-Tate motives over number rings. As a subcategory of geometric motives, the triangulated category of Artin-Tate motives DATM(S) is generated by motives of schemes that are finite over the base S. After establishing stability of these subcategories under pullback and pushforward along open and closed immersions, a motivic t-structure is constructed. Exactness properties of these functors familiar from perverse sheaves are shown to hold in this context. The cohomological dimension of mixed Artin-Tate motives is two, and there is an equivalence of the triangulated category…
Formal (mixed) Hodge structures FHS are introduced in such a way that the Hodge realization of Deligne's 1-motives extends to a realization from Laumon's 1-motives to formal Hodge structures of level 1, providing an equivalence of categories. For the sake of exposition we here confine our study to level 1 mixed Hodge structures. However, it is conceivable and suitable to consider formal mixed Hodge structures with arbitrary Hodge numbers: generalizing our definition herebelow it's not that difficult and we will treat such a matter nextly.
Let $X$ be a cubic fourfold in $P^5_{C}$. We prove that, assuming the Hodge conjecture for the product $S \times S$, where $S$ is a complex surface, and the finite dimensionality of the Chow motive $h(S)$, there are at most a countable number of decomposable integral polarized Hodge structures, arising from the fibers of a family of smooth projective surfaces. According to the results in [ABB] this is related to a conjecture proving the irrationality of a very general $X$. If $X$ is special, in the sense of B.Hasset, and $F(X) \simeq S^{[2]}$, with $S$ a K3 surface associated to $X$, then we s…
We define, in a purely algebraic way, 1-motives $Alb^{+}(X)$, $Alb^{-}(X)$, $Pic^{+}(X)$ and $Pic^{-}(X)$ associated with any algebraic scheme $X$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. For $X$ over $\C$ of dimension $n$ the Hodge realizations are, respectively, $H^{2n-1}(X)(n)$, $H_{1}(X)$, $H^{1}(X)(1)$ and $H_{2n-1}(X)(1-n)$.
In this paper, we prove a motivic enhancement of the theorem of the fixed part in Hodge theory due to Deligne. In the pure motivic case, this was done for the first time by André in [And96]. Our main result is an extension to the mixed case, which strengthens a result by Arapura [Ara13] and also provides an alternative and simpler proof, in the framework of Nori motives, of a result by Ayoub [Ayo14].
Assuming the Hodge conjecture for abelian varieties of CM-type, one obtains a good category of abelian motives over the algebraic closure of a finite field and a reduction functor to it from the category of CM-motives. Consequentely, one obtains a morphism of gerbes of fibre functors with certain properties. We prove unconditionally that there exists a morphism of gerbes with these properties, and we classify them.
Given a 0-connective motivic spectrum $E \in SH(k)$ over a perfect field k, we determine $h_0$ of the associated motive $M E \in DM(k)$ in terms of $π_0 (E)$. Using this we show that if k has finite 2-étale cohomological dimension, then the functor M is conservative when restricted to the subcategory of compact spectra, and induces an injection on Picard groups. We extend the conservativity result to fields of finite virtual 2-étale cohomological dimension by considering what we call "real motives". As a by-product we reprove a variant of a rigidity Theorem of Röndings-Østvær.
This is a considerably expanded version of the "pure" part of our 2002 preprint. We define a category of pure birational motives over a field, depending on the choice of an adequate equivalence relation on algebraic cycles. It is obtained by "killing" the Lefschetz motive in the corresponding category of effective motives. For rational equivalence, it encompasses Bloch's decomposition of the diagonal. We study the induced Chow-Künneth decompositions in this category, and establish relationships with Rost's cycle modules and the Albanese functor for smooth projective varieties.
Given a scheme in characteristic p together with a lifting modulo p^2, we construct a functor from a category of suitably nilpotent modules with connection to the category of Higgs modules. We use this functor to generalize the decomposition theorem of Deligne-Illusie to the case of de Rham cohomology with coefficients.
The Weil restriction functor, introduced in the late fifties, was recently extended by Karpenko to the category of Chow motives with integral coefficients. In this article we introduce the noncommutative (=NC) analogue of the Weil restriction functor, where schemes are replaced by dg algebras, and extend it to Kontsevich's categories of NC Chow motives and NC numerical motives. Instead of integer coefficients, we work more generally with coefficients in a binomial ring. Along the way, we extend Karpenko's functor to the classical category of numerical motives, and compare this extension with i…
In this paper, we show some applications to algebraic cycles by using higher Abel-Jacobi maps which were defined in [the author: Motives and algebraic de Rham cohomology]. In particular, we prove that the Beilinson conjecture on algebraic cycles over number fields implies the Bloch conjecture on zero-cycles on surfaces. Moreover, we construct a zero-cycle on a product of curves whose Mumford invariant vanishes, but not higher Abel-Jacobi invariant.

We develop the theory of multiple polylogarithms from analytic, Hodge and motivic point of view. Define the category of mixed Tate motives over a ring of integers in a number field. Describe explicitly the multiple polylogarithm Hopf algebra.
We give a new construction, based on categorical logic, of Nori's $\mathbb Q$-linear abelian category of mixed motives associated to a cohomology or homology functor with values in finite-dimensional vector spaces over $\mathbb Q$. This new construction makes sense for infinite-dimensional vector spaces as well, so that it associates a $\mathbb Q$-linear abelian category of mixed motives to any (co)homology functor, not only Betti homology (as Nori had done) but also, for instance, $\ell$-adic, $p$-adic or motivic cohomology. We prove that the $\mathbb Q$-linear abelian categories of mixed mot…
After introducing the Ogus realization of 1-motives we prove that it is a fully faithful functor. More precisely, following a framework introduced by Ogus, considering an enriched structure on the de Rham realization of 1-motives over a number field, we show that it yields a full functor by making use of an algebraicity theorem of Bost.
We use filtered log-$\mathscr{D}$-modules to represent the (dual) localization of Saito's Mixed Hodge Modules along a smooth hypersurface, and show that they also behave well under the direct image functor and the dual functor in the derived category of filtered log-$\mathscr{D}$-modules. The results of this paper can be used to generalize the result of M. Popa and C. Schnell about Kodaira dimension and zeros of holomorphic one-forms into the log setting.
In this paper we construct new derived invariants with integral coefficients using the theory of motifs, and give several applications. Specifically, we obtain the following results: For complex algebraic surfaces, we prove that certain torsion in the abelianized fundamental group is a derived invariant. We prove that the collection of Hodge-Witt cohomology groups is a derived invariant. In particular, Hodge-Witt reduction and ordinary reduction are preserved by derived equivalence when the characteristic is sufficiently large. Finally, using the techniques of non-commutative algebraic geometr…
We prove that arbitrary pullbacks, as well as Betti and étale realisation functors, are t-exact for the constructible motivic t-structure on the category of cohomological 1-motives over a base scheme.
