Formal (mixed) Hodge structures FHS are introduced in such a way that the Hodge realization of Deligne's 1-motives extends to a realization from Laumon's 1-motives to formal Hodge structures of level 1, providing an equivalence of categories.
For the sake of exposition we here confine our study to level 1 mixed Hodge structures. However, it is conceivable and suitable to consider formal mixed Hodge structures with arbitrary Hodge numbers: generalizing our definition herebelow it's not that difficult and we will treat such a matter nextly.
We prove that for any proper smooth formal scheme $\frak X$ over $\mathcal O_K$, where $\mathcal O_K$ is the ring of integers in a complete discretely valued nonarchimedean extension $K$ of $\mathbb Q_p$ with perfect residue field $k$ and ramification degree $e$, the $i$-th Breuil-Kisin cohomology group and its Hodge-Tate specialization admit nice decompositions when $ie<p-1$. Thanks to the comparison theorems in the recent works of Bhatt, Morrow and Scholze, we can then get an integral comparison theorem for formal schemes when the cohomological degree $i$ satisfies $ie<p-1$, which generalize…
Let $G$ be a reductive group scheme over the $p$-adic integers, and let $μ$ be a minuscule cocharacter for $G$. In the Hodge-type case, we construct a functor from nilpotent $(G,μ)$-displays over $p$-nilpotent rings $R$ to formal $p$-divisible groups over $R$ equipped with crystalline Tate tensors. When $R/pR$ has a $p$-basis étale locally, we show that this defines an equivalence between the two categories. The definition of the functor relies on the construction of a $G$-crystal associated with any adjoint nilpotent $(G,μ)$-display, which extends the construction of the Dieudonné crystal ass…
We study the formal neighbourhood of a point in $μ$-ordinary locus of an integral model of a Hodge type Shimura variety. We show that this formal neighbourhood has a structure of a shifted cascade. Moreover we show that the CM points on the formal neighbourhood are dense and that the identity section of the shifted cascade corresponds to a lift of the abelian variety which has a characterization in terms of its endomorphisms in analogy with the Serre-Tate canonical lift of an ordinary abelian variety.
Kisin and Pappas constructed integral models of Hodge-type Shimura varieties with parahoric level structure at $p>2$, such that the formal neighbourhood of a mod~$p$ point can be interpreted as a deformation space of $p$-divisible group with some Tate cycles (generalising Faltings' construction). In this paper, we study the central leaf and the closed Newton stratum in the formal neighbourhoods of mod~$p$ points of Kisin-Pappas integral models with parahoric level structure; namely, we obtain the dimension of central leaves and the almost product structure of Newton strata. In the case of hype…
We prove a formality theorem for algebraic objects internal to smooth complex varieties that are not compact but whose mixed Hodge structure has a certain purity property.
We develop a theory of Hodge type Rapoport-Zink formal schemes, which uniformize certain formal completions of the canonical integral models of Shimura varieties of Hodge type at primes of good reduction. We then apply the general theory to the special case of Shimura varieties associated with groups of spinor similitudes, and, in the basic case, determine explicitly the reduced scheme underlying the Rapoport-Zink formal scheme.
This text is an expository survey on the interplay between polarized variation of Hodge structure (PVHS) and the formalism of Hodge modules. We specifically review the extensions of a PVMHS over their singularities and its relation to mixed Hodge modules.
Let $\calO_K$ be a complete discrete valuation ring of mixed characteristic $(0,p)$ with a perfect residue field. In this paper, for a semi-stable $p$-adic formal scheme $\frakX$ over $\calO_K$ with rigid generic fibre $X$ and canonical log structure $\calM_{\frakX} = \calO_{\frakX}\cap\calO_X^{\times}$, we study Hodge--Tate crystals over the absolute logarithmic prismatic site $(\frakX,\calM_{\frakX})_{\Prism}$. As an application, we give an equivalence between the category of rational Hodge--Tate crystals on the absolute logarithmic prismatic site $(\frakX,\calM_{\frakX})_{\Prism}$ and the c…
We define and construct mixed Hodge structures on real schematic homotopy types of complex projective varieties, giving mixed Hodge structures on their homotopy groups and pro-algebraic fundamental groups. We also show that these split on tensoring with the ring R[x] equipped with the Hodge filtration given by powers of (x-i), giving new results even for simply connected varieties. Thus the mixed Hodge structures can be recovered from cohomology groups of local systems, together with the monodromy action at the Archimedean place. As the basepoint varies, these all become real variations of mix…
We define and construct mixed Hodge structures on real schematic homotopy types of complex quasi-projective varieties, giving mixed Hodge structures on their homotopy groups and pro-algebraic fundamental groups. We also show that these split on tensoring with the ring R[x] equipped with the Hodge filtration given by powers of (x-i), giving new results even for simply connected varieties. The mixed Hodge structures can thus be recovered from the Gysin spectral sequence of cohomology groups of local systems, together with the monodromy action at the Archimedean place. As the basepoint varies, th…
We describe the mod $p^r$ pro $K$-groups $\{K_n(A/I^s)/p^r\}_s$ of a regular local $\mathbb F_p$-algebra $A$ modulo powers of a suitable ideal $I$, in terms of logarithmic Hodge-Witt groups, by proving pro analogues of the theorems of Geisser-Levine and Bloch-Kato-Gabber. This is achieved by combining the pro Hochschild-Kostant-Rosenberg theorem in topological cyclic homology with the development of the theory of de Rham-Witt complexes and logarithmic Hodge-Witt sheaves on formal schemes in characteristic $p$. Applications include the following: the infinitesimal part of the weak Lefschetz con…
The goal of the current text is to study non-archimedean analytic derived de Rham cohomology by means of formal completions. Our approach is inspired by the deformation to the normal cone provided in \cite{Gaitsgory_Study_II}. More specifically, given a morphism $f \colon X \to Y$ of (derived) $k$-analytic spaces we construct the \emph{non-archimedean deformation to the normal cone} associated to $f$. The latter can be thought as an $\mathbf A^1_k$-parametrized deformation whose fiber at $1 \in \mathbf A^1_k$ coincides with the formal completion of $f$ and the fiber at $0 \in \mathbf A^1_k$ wi…
Given a complex variety $X$, a linear algebraic group $G$ and a representation $ρ$ of the fundamental group $π\_1(X,x)$ into $G$, we develop a framework for constructing a functorial mixed Hodge structure on the formal local ring of the representation variety of $π\_1(X,x)$ into $G$ at $ρ$ using mixed Hodgediagrams and methods of $L\_\infty$ algebras. We apply it in two geometric situations: either when $X$ is compact K{ä}hler and $ρ$ is the monodromy of a variation of Hodge structure, or when $X$ is smooth quasi-projective and $ρ$ has finite image.
A homotopical treatment of intersection cohomology recently developed by Chataur-Saralegui-Tanré associates a "perverse algebraic model" to every topological pseudomanifold, extending Sullivan's presentation of rational homotopy to intersection cohomology. In this context, there is a notion of "intersection-formality", measuring the vanishing of Massey products in intersection cohomology. In the present paper, we study the perverse algebraic model of complex projective varieties with isolated singularities. We endow such invariant with natural mixed Hodge structures. This allows us to prove so…
We construct the crystalline comparison isomorphisms for proper smooth formal schemes over an absolutely unramified base. Such isomorphisms hold for étale cohomology with nontrivial coefficients, as well as in the relative setting, i.e. for proper smooth morphisms of smooth formal schemes. The proof is formulated in terms of the pro-étale topos introduced by Scholze, and uses his primitive comparison theorem for the structure sheaf on the pro-étale site. Moreover, we need to prove the Poincaré lemma for crystalline period sheaves, for which we adapt the idea of Andreatta and Iovita. Another in…
We look more closely at the higher nonabelian de Rham cohomology of a smooth projective variety or family of varieties that had been defined in some previous papers. We formalize using $n$-stacks the notion of shape underlying this nonabelian cohomology. A generalization of the de Rham construction to any appropriate formal category or family of formal categories, yields various algebraic aspects of Hodge theory for the de Rham shape, such as the Hodge filtration, the Gauss-Manin connection, Griffiths transversality, an extension of the Gauss-Manin connection with regular singularities across …
This paper is a sequel to math.AG/9810041 (whose abstract should have mentioned the fact that a version of the jacobi complex and higher-order Kodaira-Spencer maps were also discovered independently by Esnault and Viehweg). We give a canonical algebraic construction for the variation of Hodge structure associated to the universal m-th order deformation of a compact Kahler manifold without vector fields. Specializing to the case of a Calabi-Yau manifold, we give a formula for the mth derivative of its period map and deduce formal defining equations for the image (Schottky relations).
Let $X$ be an irreducible complex analytic space with $j:U\into X$ an immersion of a smooth Zariski open subset, and let $\bV$ be a variation of Hodge structure of weight $n$ over $U$. Assume $X$ is compact Kähler. Then provided the local monodromy operators at infinity are quasi-unipotent, $IH^k(X, \bV)$ is known to carry a pure Hodge structure of weight $k+n$, while $H^k(U,\bV)$ carries a mixed Hodge structure of weight $\ge k+n$. In this note it is shown that the image of the natural map $IH^k(X,\bV) \to H^k(U,\bV)$ is the lowest weight part of this mixed Hodge structure. In the algebraic c…
We prove that on a certain class of smooth complex varieties (those with "affine even stratifications"), the category of mixed Hodge modules is "almost" Koszul: it becomes Koszul after a few unwanted extensions are eliminated. We also give an equivalence between perverse sheaves on such a variety and modules for a certain graded ring, obtaining a formality result as a corollary. For flag varieties, these results were proved earlier by Beilinson-Ginzburg-Soergel using a rather different construction.
The subject of the present work is the de Rham part of non-commutative Hodge structures on the periodic cyclic homology of differential graded algebras and categories. We discuss explicit formulas for the corresponding connection on the periodic cyclic homology viewed as a bundle over the punctured formal disk. Our main result says that for the category of matrix factorizations of a polynomial the formulas reproduce, up to a certain shift, a well-known connection on the associated twisted de Rham cohomology which plays a central role in the geometric approach to the Hodge theory of isolated si…
In mixed characteristic and in equal characteristic $p$ we define a filtration on topological Hochschild homology and its variants. This filtration is an analogue of the filtration of algebraic $K$-theory by motivic cohomology. Its graded pieces are related in mixed characteristic to the complex $AΩ$ constructed in our previous work, and in equal characteristic $p$ to crystalline cohomology. Our construction of the filtration on $\mathrm{THH}$ is via flat descent to semiperfectoid rings. As one application, we refine the construction of the $AΩ$-complex by giving a cohomological construction o…
The purpose of this paper is to develop a new theory of gauges in mixed characteristic. Namely, let $k$ be a perfect field of characteristic $p>0$ and $W(k)$ the $p$-typical Witt vectors. Making use of Berthelot's arithmetic differential operators, we define for a smooth formal scheme $\mathfrak{X}$ over $W(k)$, a new sheaf of algebras $\widehat{\mathcal{D}}_{\mathfrak{X}}^{(0,1)}$ which can be considered a higher dimensional analogue of the (commutative) Dieudonne ring. Modules over this sheaf of algebras can be considered the analogue (over $\mathfrak{X}$) of the gauges of Ekedahl and Fontai…
The category of rational mixed Hodge-Tate structures is a mixed Tate category. So thanks to the Tannakian formalism, it is equivalent to the category of finite dimensional graded comodules over a graded commutative Hopf algebra H over Q. Since the category has homological dimension 1, the Hopf algebra H is isomorphic to the commutative graded Hopf algebra provided by the tensor algebra of the graded vector space given by the direct sum of the groups C/Q(n) over n>0. However this isomorphism is not natural in any sense, e.g. does not work in families. We give a natural explicit construction of …
We construct a generalization of the variations of Hodge structures on Calabi-Yau manifolds. It gives a Mirror partner for the theory of genus=0 Gromov-Witten invariants
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the notion of mixed twistor structure, a generalization of the notion of mixed Hodge structure. The utility of this notion is to make possible a theory of weights for various things surrounding arbitrary representations of the fundamental group of a smooth projective variety. We give some examples of generalizations of classical results for variations of mixed Hodge structure, to the twistor setting. This supports a ``meta-theorem'' (which we state but don't prove) that one can everywhere replace the word ``Hodge'' by the word ``twistor''. We show that…
We introduce the "sharp" (universal) extension of a 1-motive (with additive factors and torsion) over a field of characteristic zero. We define the "sharp de Rham realization" by passing to the Lie-algebra. Over the complex numbers we then show a (sharp de Rham) comparison theorem in the category of formal Hodge structures. For a free 1-motive along with its Cartier dual we get a canonical connection on their sharp extensions yielding a perfect pairing on sharp realizations. We thus provide "one-dimensional sharp de Rham cohomology" of algebraic varieties.
Geometric variations of local systems are families of variations of Hodge structure; they typically correspond to fibrations of Kähler manifolds for which each fibre itself is fibred by codimension one Kähler manifolds. In this article, we introduce the formalism of geometric variations of local systems and then specialize the theory to study families of elliptic surfaces. We interpret a construction of twisted elliptic surface families used by Besser-Livné in terms of the middle convolution functor, and use explicit methods to calculate the variations of Hodge structure underlying the univers…
This PhD Thesis is devoted to the study of Hodge structures on a special type of complex algebraic varieties, the so-called character varieties. For this purpose, we propose to use a powerful algebro-geometric tool coming from theoretical physics, known as Topological Quantum Field Theory (TQFT). With this idea in mind, in the present Thesis we develop a formalism that allows us to construct TQFTs from two simpler pieces of data: a field theory (geometric data) and a quantisation (algebraic data). As an application, we construct a TQFT computing Hodge structures on representation varieties and…
We show that the formal moduli space of a Calabi-Yau manifold $X^n$ carries a linear structure, as predicted by mirror symmetry. This linear structure is canonically associated to a splitting of the Hodge filtration on $H^n(X)$.
We consider the variation of tropical Hodge structure (TVHS) associated to families of tropical varieties. The family of the tropical intermediate Jacobians of the associated tropical Hodge structure defines a bundle of tropical Jacobians, whose sections we call the tropical normal functions. We define formal sequential derivatives of these functions on the base with respect to the natural Gauss-Manin connection as the Hodge theoretic invariants detecting tropical cycles in the fibers. The associated invariants which are defined inductively are the higher Abel-Jacobi invariants in the tropical…
Let $M$ be a Kaehler manifold, and consider the total space $T^*M$ of the cotangent bundle to $M$. We show that in the formal neighborhood of the zero section $M \subset T^*M$ the space $T^*M$ admits a canonical hyperkaehler structure, compatible with the complex and holomorphic symplectic structures on $T^*M$. The associated hyperkaehler metric $h$ coincides with the given Kaehler metric on the zero section $M \subset T^*M$. Moreover, $h$ is invariant under the canonical circle action on $T^*M$ by dilatations along the fibers of $T^*M$ over $M$. We show that a hyperkaehler structure with thes…
To every scheme, not necessarily smooth neither proper, we can associate its different mixed realizations (de Rham, Betti, etale, Hodge, etc) as well as its ring of periods. In this note, following an insight of Kontsevich, we prove that, after suitable modifications, these classical constructions can be extended from schemes to the broad setting of dg categories. This leads to new additive invariants, which we compute in the case of differential operators, as well as to a theory of periods of dg categories. Among other applications, we prove that the ring of periods of a scheme is invariant u…
